Carrie Underwood’s Live Concert Of Gospel Classics Is A Must-Watch This Easter Sunday
Happy Easter, y’all.
I hope you’re spending the day celebrating the love and hope this day represents with family and friends, and that you might also be having some great fellowship and food too… that’s just a small part of what makes Easter such a special day, after all. I myself have been patiently waiting to dig into the banana pudding since I put it in the fridge last night, so I might have to start with dessert at lunch this year because I don’t know how much longer I can wait, but I digress…
While Christmas is typically the holiday that gets the most attention in terms of music and movies that people enjoy year after year, of course, country music has put out some of the best stuff in terms of gospel music that is good anytime of the year, but certainly hits close to home on Easter as well. Check out a few of my favorites HERE.
In took 2021, Carrie Underwood took home the Grammy award for Best Roots Gospel Album for her My Savior album, which she admitted at the time did mean just a little bit more than her seven other Grammys, simply due to the personal sentiment and meaning behind every song. She immediately teared up talking about it, and you could feel just how much it meant to her to win something for this record in particular:
“I’m gonna immediately start crying… I feel like it’s more important, ‘cuz I feel like this is one of the most important bodies of work I’ve ever been apart of, been able to do.
This is one thing that I’ve wanted to do literally my whole career, I’ve wanted to make this alum, and I got to. And this just means the world to me. Man, I didn’t last any length of time, did I?”
And in addition to that album, that same year she won the Grammy, Carrie put out a beautiful live, virtual concert My Savior: Live From The Ryman on Easter Sunday, where she was joined by gospel singer CeCe Winans (who is also featured on the album), Bear Rinehart of NEEDTOBREATHE, and singers Mac McAnally and Buddy Greene.
While the background is obviously beautiful, the music and the performance as a whole is simply stunning, and it remains one of my favorite things Carrie has ever done. She sang every song from the album and raised $112,650 for the charity Save The Children too, which works in over 100 countries worldwide. All of the proceeds from the benefit will go towards helping “children all over the world grow up healthy, educated and safe.”
If you need something family friendly and equally as fulfilling in terms of substance this Easter, this is it… the project as a whole is still my favorite thing Carrie has ever put out, and her voice was made for these types of traditional hymns and gospel songs. Her reimagining of them is perfect and timeless, and if you’ve never seen it before, you have been missing out.
Most of the videos are available on Youtube, but you can watch some of my favorites below too. Enjoy:
“How Great Thou Art”
“Because He Lives”
“Great Us Thy Faithfulness ft. CeCe Winans”
“Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus”
