Jake E. Lee recalls his first impression after seeing Metallica

The guitarist Jake E. Lee, best known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, being part of the albums "Bark at The Moon" (1983) and "Ultimate Sin" (1986), had the chance to see Metallica for the first time when they opened for Ozzy in the 1980s. He recalled in an interview with Brave Words his first impression of the band formed at the time by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and the late Cliff Burton. Jake E. Lee recalls his first impression after seeing Metallica "I knew who Metallica was. But they were different. I really liked it. Especially with Cliff – nothing against any of the bass players – but there was magic. I'm glad I got to see them all those times with Cliff. They were heavy as shit. They were angry, there was nothing polished or pretty about them." "I thought that was awesome. Especially that 'Ultimate Sin' tour. That's where we had to dress a certain way, you know? Ozzy had that gold glitter big-shouldered thing going and he had a guy that made clothes for everybody. You couldn't dress yourself if you were in Ozzy. Not back then." He continued: "So you had to go to the clothing designer and say what you wanted and I remember seeing Ozzy's outfit, seeing the bass players', and I was like, 'Damn, if I have to wear this shit can you please just mute it down?' I mean, most of my shit is black and white, there's no glitter. And I still felt uncomfortable." "I remember one of Sharon's things was 'You can't dress like the punters. You can't be on stage and look like you could also be in the front row.' When I joined, she told me that. I remembered that, but I didn't think we had to go that far. I love that Metallica went out in jeans and t-shirt's and just fucking tore it up. I thought that was awesome. It had a punk attitude to it," Jake E. Lee said. After decades Jake E. Lee had the chance to see Ozzy Osbourne one final time, since he was part of the musician’s farewell show “Back to the Beginning”  which happened last July at the Villa Park in Birmingham. After Osbourne’s passing, the musician revealed he had received a message from his former boss, thanking him for being part of the show and for not having the time to talk that much with him. He said Ozzy promised to call him when he was in the United States so that they could meet and chat properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8wIBed-DBcThe post Jake E. Roger Waters slams Ozzy Osbourne’s career and music

The former Pink Floyd bassist and main songwriter Roger Waters said some really harsh words about the late Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, who passed away last July at the age of 76. During an interview with The independent Ink, when he was talking about the influence music has on people, he mentioned Ozzy, saying the musician was always in TV with his "idiocy" and that he "couldn't give a fuck" about his music. Ozzy's son Jack Osbourne, responded to the comments as can be seen below, saying his father always thought Waters was a "cunt". Roger Waters slams Ozzy Osbourne's career and Jack Osbourne responds: “Ozzy Osbourne, who just died, bless him in his whatever that state that he was in his whole life. We’ll never know. The music, I have no idea. I couldn’t give a fuck.” The musician said that the Black Sabbath frontman was always on TV with his "idiocy", referring to the reality show The Osbournes. “I don’t care about Black Sabbath, I never did. Have no interest in biting the heads of chickens or whatever they do. I couldn’t care less, you know,” he said. Jack Osbourne's response to Roger Waters Ozzy Osbourne's son Jack Osbourne posted on his Instagram stories an answer attacking Waters. He said: "Hey Roger Waters, fuck you. How pathetic and out of touch you've become. The only way you seem to get attention these days is by vomiting out bullshit in the press. My father always thought you were a cunt - Thanks for proving him right," Jack Osbourne said. Waters had already stated in the past that he didn't care about Hard Rock or Heavy Metal bands, but never was harsh and unpolite like this time. Here at Rock and Roll Garage, we believe that Roger Waters' statement is horrible and disrespectful. You may not be a fan of an artist and you can say that, but you should not disrespect him, especially if the person has recently died and cannot defend herself. Sadly, the musician has lost his touch on many subjects in recent years, for example, claiming that countries like Venezuela, Russia, and China are democracies. An apology to Ozzy's family and to the millions of fans worldwide would be the right thing to do.The post Roger Waters slams Ozzy Osbourne’s career and music appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

3 bands Jerry Garcia said he was a fan of in the 1980s

The late guitarist Jerry Garcia co-founded the Grateful Dead in 1965, a band that became one of the most successful of all time in terms of ticket sales. For decades, until Garcia’s passing in 1995, they played to sold-out arenas across the United States, inspiring countless generations of fans and musicians. They were essentially a live band, always delivering unique concerts, since improvisation was part of their DNA. Throughout his career, Jerry Garcia remained interested in hearing what new artists had to say in their music and he spoke about several bands he was a fan of. 3 bands Jerry Garcia said he was a fan of in the 1980s Dire Straits https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0ffIJ7ZO4U&list=RDh0ffIJ7ZO4U&start_radio=1&pp=ygUcZGlyZSBzdHJhaXRzIHN1bHRhbiBvZiBzd2luZ6AHAQ%3D%3D "I like Dire Straits, but that's to be expected. It's easy to see why I like them," Jerry Garcia told New Musical Express in 1981. One year earlier he had already said it was hard not like the group. “I don’t think there’s anybody who’s consistently putting out great stuff, time after time after time. But everybody’s got something to say and there’s moments in all of this that are real excellent. I go for the moments. I keep listening till I hear something that knocks me out. Dire Straits-I love that band. It’s hard not to like that band,” he said in an interview with Relix magazine in 1980. At the time Dire Straits had already released three albums: "Dire Straits" (1978), "Communiqué" (1979) and "Making Movies" (1980). A couple of years ago, in 1985 when they had already put out "Love Over Gold" (1982) and "Brothers in Arms" (1985), Garcia told Frets that he already saw their show. “The last band I went to see is Dire Straits. That was the last band I went to see live, a couple of years ago. There are others that I would, but most of the time I’m out working and stuff. So I don’t really get a chance,” Jerry Garcia said. The group was formed back in 1977 in London by Mark Knopfler, his brother David Knopfler, John Illsey and Pick Whiters. They were active until 1995 when Mark was tired of all the pressure of the burden that came with the huge success of the band. Since then the musician focused on his solo career. They have sold an estimated amount of more than 120 million records worldwide. Gary Numan https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Im3JzxlatUs&list=RDIm3JzxlatUs&start_radio=1&pp=ygUKR2FyeSBOdW1hbqAHAQ%3D%3D “I like Gary Numan a lot. Sure do. No (I haven’t seen him in concert), but I would like to. I think his stuff is really interesting. I think he’s got a real thing. (So) I like people who have a real conviction about what they do. Convinced that they have something to say and a real way to say it,” he told New Musical Express. The British musician is best known for hits like “Cars” and “Are ‘Friends’ Electric?”, certainly an artist many Grateful Dead fans would not guess the late Jerry was a fan of, since the music is quite different from the kind he made. The interviewer told Garcia he should get in touch with Numan and invited him to write something together. His answer was: “Oh no! I’d be intimidated by him. Shit yeah…these guys all seem so much more together than I feel. I feel like someone who is constantly on the verge of losing it, of blowing it. I feel tremendously insecure. When I see people perform with such panache… I don’t see how they do it. It takes tremendous nerve, tremendous balls,” Jerry Garcia said. Numan started his career as the frontman of Tubeway Army, after fronting the band in two albums, he released "The Pleasure Principle" (1979) his solo debut. With the hit "Cars" and other praised songs, the record peaked at number one on the United Kingdom charts and 16 on the United States Billboard 200. Since then he has been regarded as a pioneer of electronic music and sold an estimated amount of more than 10 million records worldwide. Elvis Costello https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPDoXl9ZPs&list=RDsnPDoXl9ZPs&start_radio=1&pp=ygUmZWx2aXMgY29zdGVsbG8gd2F0Y2hpbmcgdGhlIGRldGVjdGl2ZXOgBwHSBwkJsgkBhyohjO8%3D "I admire Elvis Costello for his amazing output. Goddamn, the guy is so fucking prolific. For me a good year is like writing three songs. Songs don't come easy to me," he told Musical Express. He had already praised the British artist a couple times before, like in confirming, for example, Costello's famous track "Watching the Detectives". Curiously, Costello had the chance to perform with Garcia and the Grateful Dead in the late 80s and he was a fan of them. He recalled that moment in an interview with Musician magazine in 1991, which was done with Jerry Garcia. “I think one thing that’s overlooked about the Dead is the strength of the songs. If it wasn’t for all the cultural baggage that comes with the Grateful Dead, and maybe the name being in one way a defense and in another an alienating thing. Also if you were Norwegian or something, I think by now you’d be regarded as a sort of super jazz band." “And on the other hand, if it wasn’t for the improvisational aspects, you would have better credit for having written really good songs. Because they’re not just platforms for improvisation. I think that’s an element that, aside from Dead fans, is very overlooked,” Elvis Costello said. Besides being a musician, Elvis is also known as a record producer, author and even television host. He has been compared with names like Bob Dylan and Van Morrison, with a kind of music that mixed Punk and New Wave. A prolific artist, as described by Garcia, until 2025 Costello released 33 studio albums and six live records. The post 3 bands Jerry Garcia said he was a fan of in the 1980s appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Group of Memphis grandmothers save toddlers from abusive man, held him until police came

This summer in South Memphis, a group of grandmothers witnessed something horrific. Instead of looking the other way, however, the women worked together to become heroes in their community. The incident happened outside of a local gas station across the street from an apartment complex. One of the women heard screaming before seeing a man attempting to drag two small children into his car. The children were just one and two years old. No one knows how they'll react when they notice someone in need of help. Most people hope they and others will have the wherewithal to spring into action when they see someone in need, but until a possibly risky situation arises, the average person can only hope they'll act heroically. Suspect in handcuffs as officer observes the scene.Photo credit: CanvaIn this situation, the kids and the group of grandmothers had no connection to one another; they were complete strangers. However, the elderly women thought the kids appeared to be in extreme danger and were willing to risk their lives to save them. One of the women involved was Shirley Anderson. Anderson told WREG News Channel 3 that the man the children were with claimed that both children somehow fell off of the bathroom sink when he was first confronted. They didn't buy his story."He said they fell off of that sink in the bathroom. We don't think so because of all their bruises, the neck swelling on both of those babies," Anderson explains to the station. Police activity behind caution tape on a city street.Photo credit: CanvaAnderson wasn't at the scene for the initial confrontation. She heard women yelling for help while driving down the road and witnessed one of the women pulling the kids out of the arms of the man accused of abusing them. "She managed to get the babies out of his arms, passed them back to the grannies. We locked the babies in this washer [laundromat] back here," Anderson says.Once the children were safe inside the laundromat, the grandmothers comforted them while awaiting help. The man reportedly attempted to flee the scene, but the grandmothers remaining outside were not going to let him get away. They ran after the man, tracking him to a nearby apartment complex. Outside of the complex, a few younger men witnessed the women chasing down and attempting to restrain the man. Immediately, those men sprang into action as well."We apprehended him down the street at the apartments until the police came, and a little street justice," Anderson said before adding, "Usually, people will keep on going. This lot right here was full of grandmamas yesterday, you hear me? Grandmothers. They showed up and they showed out. We had a few kings that did what they supposed to do. They apprehended him, and held him down, and a little street justice until the police came. So as a community, I'm proud of Memphis right now."The children were taken to the hospital, where they were declared to be in critical condition. There is currently no information on whether the man, 21-year-old Kae'Ren Pullen, is related to the children in any way, but, according to reports, the situation stemmed from some sort of domestic disturbance. Pullen is currently charged with two counts of child abuse and two counts of child neglect. At this time, there isn't an update on the health status of the children involved.

'Are you serious?' Man tries on women's jeans to see if the pockets are 'really that bad'

'Are you serious?' Man tries on women's jeans to see if the pockets are 'really that bad'

It's hard to say what makes every woman happy or what every woman wants, and as a woman myself, I'm not a fan of sweeping generalizations based on gender. However, there are certain elements of walking through the world as a woman that are fairly universal, which makes me feel confident in saying this:If you ever want to see pure, spontaneous joy, watch a woman put on a dress and suddenly realize it has pockets! Happy Fashion GIF by Rosanna Pansino Giphy Women's clothes are notorious for having either no pockets (most dresses) or pockets that are barely usable (most jeans and dress pants). And this isn't just a perception—a 2018 study by The Pudding found that, on average, the front pockets on women’s jeans are 48% shorter and 6.5% narrower than they are on men’s jeans. I have pants in my wardrobe that look like they have both front and back pockets, but they don't; where the pocket opening would be is sewn shut. Faux pockets may sound dumb—because they are—but they're not uncommon. And some pockets are so small you can't even fit a ChapStick into them. To test whether women's pockets really are as bad as they (we) say they are, popular vlogger Nick Wilkins tried on a pair of women's jeans. The fit was great and they looked fine. But the moment he held up the items he usually puts in his own pockets, women collectively let out a loud "HA!" Sure enough, when he tried to put his phone and wallet in the pockets, his reaction reflected what women have said countless times ourselves: "Are you serious? That's all it does?" @n1ckwilkins Yep, that's really all they do, and yes, they really are that bad. "Now I know why you guys wear purses," Wilkins said before having an epiphany. "You guys don't have pockets with dresses, too!"Exactly. Hence the "It has pockets!" elation described above. "Um, people who make women pants," Wilkins said, "let's start putting some depth in there, why don't we." Seriously, though, why don't we? What's up with women's clothing and the dearth of pockets? @technically.a.tech Why are our pockets so shallow?! #pockets #pantspockets #womeninstem #womenonconstruction #womenintrades #giveuspockets #workwear #womensworkwear #ppe As it turns out, the history of women's clothing and pockets goes way back, and, of course, there have been various trends and shifts over time. Some people have posited that companies don't put usable pockets into women's clothing so that they can sell more purses and handbags. However, according to a deep dive in FASHION Magazine, that's not quite the whole story. Believe it or not, we're still living with leftover, outdated notions of men being active and women being passive, with men's clothing needing to be functional and women's clothing desiring form over function."Essentially: Men are required to act and therefore need practical clothing," writes Annika Lautens. Women are expected to simply appear and be watched—their beauty prioritized above all else. And these outdated gender ideals are still being sewn directly into our clothing."The irony, of course, is that women tend to carry more things than men. Sure, sometimes that necessitates a purse, but sometimes you don't want to carry something extra. Pockets are nice. They're convenient, helpful, and functional. We want them. We need them. What in the name of patriarchy is the problem here? @ericdalessandro #GiveWomenPockets #fyp #fy #foryoupage #foryou It can't be that hard to make normal pants for women with decent pockets. Jeans with decent pockets. Dress pants with decent pockets. And yes, dresses with pockets, too. We are seeing more independent and female-led clothing makers providing pockets, and clearly the awareness about it is finally kicking in pretty universally. But as most women can attest, it remains an issue. Maybe women would simply be too powerful if we all had pockets. Maybe this will be our ultimate last stand. Pockets or bust, ladies. Pockets or bust.
