President Donald Trump hit back at the Colombian president Wednesday after the Latin American leader called to “get rid” of him. Colombian President Gustavo Petro told Univision Monday that it may be necessary to “get rid of” Trump as the United States escalates counternarcotics operations in the region. “Humanity has a first offramp, it is to choose to change Trump in various ways,” Petro told Univision’s Daniel Coronell. “The easiest way may be through Trump himself. If not, get rid of Trump,” he said while snapping his fingers. But Trump wasn’t having any of Petro’s threats. “He’s a thug and bad guy. He’s a guy that is making a lot of drugs,” Trump said in response to The Daily Wire’s White House Correspondent, Mary Margaret Olohan. “He better watch it or we’ll take very serious action against him and his country,” he added. Do you view that as a threat? @POTUS: “He’s a thug and bad guy…He better watch it or we’ll take very serious action against him and his country.” pic.twitter.com/of3eYWGHhW — Daily Wire (@realDailyWire) October 22, 2025   Trump earlier called Petro an “illegal drug dealer” with “a fresh mouth toward America.” Wes Tabor, who led the Drug Enforcement Administration’s office in Caracas in 2012, recently told The Daily Wire that Petro has slowly pulled away from the U.S., while embracing the socialist regime of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela. “His background is steeped in these freedom fighting, kind[s] of guerrilla warfare … socialism, Marxism, and things like that. And we have seen in the last year more aggressively coming out of Colombia, they are saying, ‘listen, we are going to side with Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela,” said Tabor. “When we look historically, the relationship has been really good,” he added. The Department of War  has taken out seven drug cartel vessels in the Caribbean in recent weeks, killing more than two dozen suspected narco traffickers. Petro claimed the U.S. killed a fisherman rather than narcoterrorists in one of the strikes, prompting Trump to threaten to hit Colombia with new tariffs. “U.S. government officials have committed a murder and violated our sovereignty in territorial waters,” Petro wrote on social media at the time, according to The New York Times.

A Kent County, Virginia, judge has reportedly greenlit a special counsel to take over an investigation into Democratic candidate for state attorney general Jay Jones’ 2022 reckless driving case. Judge Elliott Bondurant has approved a request from Kent County Commonwealth Attorney Scott Renick, who sought to recuse himself from the investigation because of an unknown conflict, according to National Review. The special counsel appointment is the latest wrinkle in a case believed to have been settled until Renick’s office revisited it earlier this month. In 2022, Jones was caught traveling 116 mph in a 70 mph zone. Jones’ avoided jail time, though he was fined $1,500 and ordered to complete 1,000 hours of community service. In January of 2024, Jones submitted letters to the court that said he completed his community service requirement with 500 hours for the NAACP and 500 hours for Meet Our Moment. Earlier this month, Renick began looking into how Jones completed his community service hours, according to ABC 7. Meet Our Moment is Jones’ own political action committee, a relationship that was not reflected in the documents Jones submitted to the court to satisfy his community service requirement. The political nature of the group also raises questions about the validity of the time claimed toward his community service requirement, according to ABC 7. In order to have completed his community service within the timeframe, Jones would have had to work 10 hours every week for each group, all while working full time for the law firm Hogan Lovells, according to National Review. Jones also spent much time in 2023 on the road campaigning for other Democrats. On Wednesday, Jones’ Republican opponent, state Attorney General Jason Miyares, renewed his call for the Democrat to drop out. “Jay Jones had already disqualified himself with his violent text messages fantasizing about the death of his political opponent and their young children. Now we learn that he may have misled the courts to avoid jail time after recklessly driving 116 miles per hour on one of the most dangerous stretches of interstate in Virginia,” Miyares said in a statement. “It is not possible for Jay Jones to fulfill the duties of this office while under an open criminal investigation. If Jay Jones stays in the race, it shows a contempt for voters never seen in modern Virginia political history,” he continued. Jones has continued to trail Miyares in polls while dragging down other Democrats in Virginia along with him, after messages Jones sent in 2022 about then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert were revealed. Jones had wished harm against Gilbert and his children, saying that, “Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that there are no plans to replace Bad Bunny as the halftime performer at Super Bowl LX in February. Goodell made his first statement on the matter as backlash against the Puerto Rican performer, who only performs songs in Spanish and has expressed anti-ICE sentiments, has grown in recent weeks. A petition to replace Bad Bunny (real name Benito Ocasio) with country performer George Strait earned more than 50,000 signatures. “It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said of the performance, per ABC News. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.” “We’re confident it’s going to be a great show,” the commissioner added. “[Ocasio] understands the platform that he’s on, and I think it’s going to be exciting and a united moment.” “He’s one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world,” Goodell said of Bad Bunny’s global appeal. “That’s what we try to achieve. It’s an important stage for us. It’s an important element to the entertainment value.” The artist’s selection, which was made in conjunction with Jay-Z’s company Roc Nation, was controversial because of his past anti-ICE statements, including his refusal to schedule any tour stops in the United States due to alleged fears about his fans being taken into ICE custody at his shows. “…There was the issue of — like, f***ing ICE could be outside (my concert). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about,” Bad Bunny said, referring to ICE agents as “motherf***ers” and “sons of bitches.” Ocasio also addressed the backlash he and the NFL received about none of his songs being English, advising viewers to learn Spanish if they didn’t like it.
