He slashed one officer in the neck and another in the face, and shoved a third officer into a barrier. Wohl was not scheduled for any court appearance that day, making the attack appear premeditated and targeted. Surveillance footage shows Wohl calmly approaching the metal detectors before suddenly attacking. Court officers quickly tackled, disarmed, and arrested him near the magnetometers. Wohl has 18 prior arrests and is currently facing three open criminal cases. He has a history of harassing courthouse staff and causing disturbances, raising red flags about lax security. Jonathan Wohl, 37, of Queens, ran into the lobby of Manhattan Criminal Court at 100 Centre Street around 9:30 a.m. and suddenly ambushed the officers with a knife, the sources said. He cut one of the officers twice on his face and sliced the other on the neck – before shoving a third into a barrier in the main lobby on the south side of the building, according to the sources and the Office of Court Administration. “The assaults, captured on surveillance video, appeared preliminarily to be a targeted attack of the uniformed officers working security details at the courthouse,” an OCA spokesman said in a statement. A group of officers could be seen taking him down to the ground and then carrying him out of the courthouse with his feet up in the air. “Several Court Officers immediately rushed to stop the assailant, subduing him near a bank of magnetometers, disarming him, and taking him into custody,” the spokesman said. Attack Details: Boelter impersonated a police officer using a uniform, body armor, and a hyperrealistic silicon mask. He knocked on lawmakers’ doors claiming to be police before opening fire. Surveillance footage at multiple locations captured his actions. Weapons & Planning: Inside his SUV: multiple loaded assault-style rifles, a 9mm handgun, and a list of public officials’ names and addresses. Boelter said he has about $20,000 to $30,000 in his bank accounts and asked for a public defender. His combined preliminary and detention hearing was set for June 27. A motive is unclear, Thompson said. According to an interview with an unnamed witness, Boelter tried to buy an electronic bike and a Buick in north Minneapolis at 7 a.m. following the attacks, and allegedly drove with the witness to a bank where he withdrew $2,200 in cash, according to court documents. Hours after the shootings, Boelter allegedly texted his family, “Dad went to war last night … I don’t wanna say more because I don’t want to implicate anybody,” according to the affidavit. Boelter also allegedly texted his wife, “Words are not gonna explain how sorry I am for this situation … there’s gonna be some people coming to the house armed and trigger-happy and I don’t want you guys around.” In a search of Boelter’s wife’s car, law enforcement recovered two handguns, approximately $10,000 in cash and passports for Boelter’s wife and her children, the affidavit said.
