Taking media questions at a cabinet meeting, Pres. Trump was asked about his past comments teasing the idea of giving Americans “rebate checks,” as a result of the extraordinary tariff revenue being taken in by his administration. “Well, we have a lot of money coming in, rebate checks for the Americans, and it’s coming in at tremendous numbers,” Trump said, noting that U.S. revenue will greatly increase once the plants foreign countries have agreed to move to the U.S. are opened, thanks to his tariff negotiations. But, instead of rebate checks for everyone, Trump said, the money could be given back in the form of a dividend – to those Americans who’ve had to endure “stupid leadership”: “There’s a concept of making a – you could call it a dividend, as you would say – making a dividend to the people in this country who’ve had to suffer through stupid leadership.” “And they paid a lot of taxes and they got nothing for it. Or they got attacked, like you were, okay, for it,” Pres. Trump said, calling the stupid-leadership dividend payments a possibility: “Primarily, we want to pay down debt.
