The Search for Life Tops NASA's Science Goals for the First Human Mars Mission

A new report identifies searching for life as the top science priority for humanity's first landing on Mars, ranking it above understanding water cycles, mapping geology, or even studying how the Martian environment affects astronaut health. The report outlines four possible exploration campaigns, with the highest ranked approach calling for missions totalling 330 sols at a single scientifically rich site where crews could investigate everything from ancient lava flows to active dust storms. By placing the search for extraterrestrial life at the centre of human Mars exploration, the report reimagines the first crewed mission not just as a milestone for spaceflight but as humanity's best chance to answer whether we're alone in the universe.

“I Still Have Healing To Do” – Jake Owen Reassures Concerned Fans He Hasn’t Broken Sobriety Following Emotional Video

Jake Owen is addressing his out-of-character moment online from earlier this week. The “Fool Like Me” singer scared fans earlier this week, sharing a vulnerable stream-of-consciousness video of his thoughts online before quickly deleting it from his social media stories. In the footage, Owen is crying, looking very devastated. In the video, Owen speaks into the camera about how much he regrets entering the music industry, questioning why he keeps pursuing a career that seems to be ruining his personal life. Owen also shared that he got dressed up to give his ex-fiancée a check so she’d give him back his engagement ring, pointing to a small package in the passenger seat, indicating the ring was in that package. Before abruptly ending the video, noting that “when it’s over it’s over” and signed off with a “Merry Christmas.” After Owen shared the video and then quickly deleted it, fans quickly expressed concern for him, worrying that he had broken his four years of sobriety. Owen gives the impression online of a very wise, strong man, so for him to show so much emotion feels very erratic and raises a few red flags. However, Jake Owen is clearing things up himself and informing fans that they have nothing to worry about. Yesterday, December 11, Owen took to social media to address the raw moment and reassure fans that he has not broken his sobriety. “What’s up, y’all? Jake here, again, back in a better frame of mind. I really feel responsible and owe it to you all to hop on here unscripted after thinking about some things that happened, you know, the other day when I popped on here and was just overly emotional, and kind of let myself break down in front of the world. You know, my world consists of my little girls, I’m a father, I’m a son, I’m a brother, I’m a friend to so many people, and I’m worried I scared a lot of people. And I’m regretful for that because I don’t want to worry anybody. I’m okay. I am fine, and seeing that myself made me realize that we all do have things that we have to work on, and I just broke down. A 44-year-old guy that showed his emotion, and I was supposed to be strong, you know. I’m supposed to be a dad; that’s the strong one. I’m supposed to be a band leader, and I’m supposed to be the guy that has everything figured out, you know. And I just want to tell you all, no matter who is watching this, is like I for sure don’t have it figured out. And I’m working on that.” Jake Owen then says that after this video, which is now deleted, he’s had so many people checking in on him. Owen informed fans that the vulnerable footage was recorded at 10 am after he left his business manager’s office. While Owen, as afore mentioned, assured fans that he’s still sober, he did vulnerably admit that the feelings he was experiencing that day were very similar to the day that he woke up and decided to get sober. He felt like he was letting people down and was not the man he aspires to be. “I realize I still have healing to do, I still have things I need to fix. I’m not fixed yet. And I’m grateful for those people out there who have reached out to me to tell me that you can, you’d be there for me. I love you for that, I’m grateful for that. I guess I’m being long-winded, but I wanted to let you guys know I’m okay. I’m going to keep working on me. Thanks for spending the last four minutes watching this, if it made any sense. But I’m going to be good, I love you guys.” It seems like Owen is going to log off after that, but keeps going with the message that, despite his crying about how much he dislikes the music business and career choice, he informs fans that those thoughts came from the emotions he was experiencing and were not sincere expressions of his true feelings. “Oh, by the way, this has nothing to do with country music. Yesterday I said I don’t want to do this anymore. I said I hate…The music business sucks. The music business does not suck. All these people that I’m talking about are friends that I’ve made, I’ve made because of the music business. All the people who are calling me are in the music business. I think I was just in an emotional place where I felt like my dreams that I followed, I fulfilled. But it’s also deteriorating my family life, and a lot of that is due to my own decisions and choices that I have to be accountable for—just wanted you guys to know that. I’m not on drugs, I’m not intoxicated. I’m just a guy that’s in a place in his life where I’m just trying to figure out how to be a better man, and I’m on my way.  So love you. Sorry if I scared you. Thank you for your messages…” While I am sure Owen feels some shame and embarrassment that so many people were worried about him, it’s nice that he cleared it up with fans and let them know he’s okay. As someone who often cries every day, I relate to these overwhelming emotions that can sometimes lead to overreactions. When a famous musician cries on social media, it naturally sparks some concern, but there’s nothing wrong with showing your emotions. We are glad that everything is all good, and we hope that you continue on your path of healing. @jakeowenI just want yall to know I love you very much and I’m super grateful for all of you. ♬ original sound – Jake Owen The post “I Still Have Healing To Do” – Jake Owen Reassures Concerned Fans He Hasn’t Broken Sobriety Following Emotional Video first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

Maggie Antone Returns With Stellar, Long-Awaited New Track “The Devil’s Not In Hell”

Back like she never left. 2025 has been nothing short of a big year for the talented women in country music. Though country radio is still failing to give them the love they deserve, highlighted by the depressing fact that only five songs inside the Top 50 were performed by women, the year was undoubtedly filled with some major wins in a few key areas. Obviously, from a mainstream perspective, the CMA Awards were highlighted by Ella Langley, Megan Moroney and Lainey Wilson leading the nominations with Langley and Moroney becoming certified stars over the course of the year. However, when you look at the flourishing independent and alt. country scene, you get a feel for just how star-studded today’s class of female talent truly is. With names like Sierra Ferrell, who made her presence be known early in the year with four wins at the Grammys back in February, Kaitlin Butts, Willow Avalon and more flying up the ranks, for my money, there’s an artist hailing from Richmond, Virginia who’s simply primed to breakout in a big way heading into 2026. Her name is Maggie Antone. In case you’re unfamiliar with the Virginian, she made waves in the independent scene last year with her delightful debut album, Rhinestoned. Though she had already let her presence be known by dropping a stellar collection of covers, featuring the likes of Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,” Tyler Childers’ “Lady May” and John Prine’s “Spanish Pipe Dream” back in 2022, Rhinestoned was many listener’s first impression of the Antone. And it’s safe to say she didn’t disappoint. Ultimately, Rhinestoned showcased why so many independent fans (myself included) have simply fallen in love with the Richmond native. Beyond her incredibly unique vocals, which ultimately sound like a blend between someone like Miranda Lambert and Dolly Parton with a bit more of an edge to it, her songwriting prowess was put on full display. Co-writing all 10 tracks on the tight record, Antone covered a bunch of ground on Rhinestoned. Obviously, she delivered some absolute gut punches on the brutally honest, bitter “Suburban Outlaw” and the introspective “Meant To Meet.” However, she balanced them perfectly with some incredibly fun tracks like “One Too Many” and the standout which ultimately netted her nomination for Song of the Year at this year’s Americana Honors & Awards, the infectious “Johnny Moonshine.” With all of that being said, many were patiently waiting for Antone to follow up the stellar album throughout the year. Though it took some time, 16 months to be exact, the rising star is finally back with her first new single, “The Devil’s Not In Hell,” which was teased on TikTok all the way back in October 2024. View this post on Instagram It’s safe to say that Antone is back and better than ever here on “The Devil’s Not In Hell.” Co-written with Annika Bennett and Carrie Karipen, the track is nothing short of a hilarious dig at an ex who just happens to live in East Nashville. Coming off firing in the first verse, Antone immediately warns the listener about him, bluntly describing his “porn stache” and the fact that he lies about his height, being 5’8″ instead of 5’10”. Let me tell you bout a man 5’8 swears that he’s 5’10 6 feet down is where I am Blue jeans, porn stache above his lips Should’ve run before that second spliff Cause I know what he’s tryin’ to hit It’s not the spliff Not to be outdone with the incredibly funny deconstruction of her insecure ex, Antone dives straight into the chorus. Though the verses are stellar in their own right, complete with even more digs (the “Chasin’ PBR’s with Adderall” line in particular is phenomenal), the anthemic chorus just might be the highlight of the track. Being primed as a standout at her live shows, the “Johnny Moonshine” singer penned the perfect sing-a-long chorus when she sings: The Devil’s not in hell He’s with the boys at the bar On the Eastside baby Starin’ at himself Blowin’ smoke I hope those spirits Take him away Before it’s too late Just when you thought she was done delivering some scornful digs, she puts the icing on the cake with a hilarious, fake voice mail message, calling her ex a “little f***** b*tch”  before diving into the chorus a final time. Your call has been forwarded to an automated voice messaging system At the tone please record your message, or press 1 for more options You little f****** b*tch! Ultimately, “The Devil’s Not In Hell” is Antone in her sweet spot. As one of the most exciting young, female voices in the genre today, it’s clear that she hasn’t lost a step despite a bit of a break in terms of new releases since Rhinestoned. Undoubtedly primed to be a big hit among her fans and at her live shows, I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes a big hit online, especially with the hilarious voice mail message bridge. It seriously has TikTok virality written all over it in the best way possible, and it looks like the Richmond native has a huge hit on her hands here. Check it out below; you won’t want to miss it.
