Morgan Wallen Fans Slam Disappointing ACM Nominations After Record-Breaking Year

Morgan Wallen Fans Slam Disappointing ACM Nominations After Record-Breaking Year

To be fair, he was nominated in the two biggest categories… but it’s unlikely he’ll win. This morning, the ACM Awards announced the full list of nominations, which finds the ladies leading the pack as Megan Moroney, Ella Langley, Miranda Lambert and Lainey Wilson are the most nominated artists. Not exactly a surprise considering how much they’ve dominated the last year or so. Carter Faith also received a big nod for her Cherry Valley record in the Album of the Year category. But much of the attention from fans is on Morgan Wallen, who is undoubtedly the biggest star in country, and one of the biggest acts in all of music globally, who only received three nominations this year including Entertainer of the Year, Album of the Year for his I’m The Problem record, as well as Artist-Songwriter of the Year. While this is Morgan’s fourth consecutive nomination for Entertainer of the Year, he has never won it, and his third nomination for Album of the Year, which he’s only won once for his massive 2021 project Dangerous: The Double Album. He hasn’t attended the show since 2023, and it’s not hard to see why. There’s certainly no love lost between Morgan and the Academy of Country Music, and I’m not a Morgan fan girl by any means, but out of sheer fairness, it seems wrong to continually snub the biggest artist in country year after year. Last year, Luke Combs was notably absent as well and didn’t win an award either, which I think says a lot in terms of how THE biggest acts in the business view it all. Don’t get me wrong, I’m incredibly happy to see the ladies dominating, they’re all some of my favorite artists that I’ve been talking about since long before any of them were household names (except Miranda… she’s been crushing it for decades now), but Morgan sells out stadiums, is the highest-certified country artist of all time, according to the RIAA (surpassing legends like Garth Brooks and George Strait), has spent the most weeks at #1 on the Top Country Albums chart, has the most simultaneous Billboard Hot 100 entries with 37 tracks charting concurrently in May 2025, and he’s also the first artist to occupy the entire top 10 of the Hot Country Songs chart simultaneously. In addition, he is the only artist to have two separate albums, Dangerous: The Double Album and One Thing at a Time, stay in the Billboard 200 Top 10 for over 100 weeks each. His most recent album I’m The Problem has been incredibly successful this year too, which is why it’s nominated, but to only get three nods for the biggest artist and album of the year is laughable. This is a mainstream country award show, and they want to barely acknowledge the biggest mainstream artist? Yeah, I can see why most fans don’t care anything about them anymore… A lot of people don’t like it because they don’t like him, but that’s the reality, and these shows are going to continue to hurt the tiny shred of credibility they have left by continually snubbing Morgan when he is the undisputed biggest act in country music. At the end of the day, these awards are ultimately pretty meaningless, and Morgan’s a perfect example of how little they matter in terms of an artists real success, ironically, but I have to laugh at how the industry seems to cut its nose off to spite its face, every chance it gets… I wouldn’t be surprised if Morgan never attends one of these award shows again. Notably, his team declined to submit his work for the 2026 Grammys, so I don’t think they’re really overly interested in awards, either. But regardless, fans are already pointing out the fact that Morgan was snubbed, and I’m sure those comments will continue until the show finally airs. View this post on Instagram The comments on their post announced Entertainer of the Year, Female artist of the Year and Male Artist of the Year found many fans asking why Morgan wasn’t up for Male Artist of the Year (some of these responses are from X): “Where’s Morgan for Male Artist ?” “Why is Morgan Wallen not in the Male Artist of the year???” “Um where is Morgan for Male Artist of the Year and Single of the Year…?” “MORGANNNNNNNNNN.” “The fact that MW is not even in the male category at all is wild.” “Still nominating Morgan Wallen but they ain’t going to let him win. He should been winning the past few years.” “I’m not even a big Morgan Wallen fan but him not being nominated is ridiculous.” “HOW is Morgan Wallen not nominated to best Male Artist? That reeks. Nobody is doing what he is right now.” “Your exclusion of Morgan Wallen is one of the reasons I don’t watch anymore…. It’s ridiculous.” “Morgan Wallen never wins.” “No Morgan Wallen? Are you serious?” Mostly though, I think this serves as a lesson to other artists that you can do everything right from an industry standpoint, no one churns out radio and streaming hits like Morgan, and it’s possible you still won’t be “rewarded for it” with a trophy. So do what you want, and to hell with the establishment because you absolutely do not need them… We’ll see if he ends up winning any of them when the 61st ACM Awards stream live on Prime Video on Sunday, May 17th at 8 p.m. ET from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Ty Myers Says He’s Written 90% Of The Songs He’s Ever Recorded In His Childhood Bedroom

There’s one, very familiar place that Ty Myers likes to utilize when it comes to his songwriting. The “Thought It Was Love” singer recently joined the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast to talk to us about his career blowing up while he’s still a teenager, being the boss of adults at the age of 18, and being called an old soul ever since he started writing full songs when he was seven years old. Myers also touched on the main demographic of his fanbase being young girls, how every night on tour is a party (and why he sometimes separates himself from it), John Mayer being his number one influence, and the fun fact about where most of his songwriting takes place. What were you doing when you were 18 years old? Probably wrapping up high school, getting ready to go off to college, or preparing to enter the workforce. Regardless of what you might have been up to, chances are that you still lived with your parents at that age. The same is true for Ty Myers, who is currently on a meteoric rise in the world of country music. He’s already got hit songs like “Thought It Was Love” and “Ends of the Earth,” and the singer-songwriter just released his sophomore album, Heavy on the Soul, at the end of March. Needless to say, Ty Myers has accomplished a lot in his young career already… all before he’s even moved out of his parent’s house. Myers is currently looking into buying his own house, which is pretty impressive for an 18-year-old. And when the time does come to move out, it’ll be a little bittersweet, because he told us one of the more natural places for him to write songs is his childhood bedroom: “It’s crazy. I’ve probably written 90% of every song I’ve ever written in the room I grew up in. Obviously, more recently, I’ve been out places.” I’m sure most of us can relate to our imaginations running wild in our childhood bedrooms. The only difference between us and Ty Myers is that he’s turned his creativity into millions of streams and millions of fans. Oh, and one of those places where’s Myers has been “out” recently is none other than Paris, France. He said that writing came easy to him while he was visiting “The City of Light” just because of the energy that surrounds the iconic destination: “Last time I went to Paris, I just went on a writing (spree) because you just go to places like that and it just gets your creativity going. It’s like the excitement of being in this place you’ve dreamed of being just brings out this artistic side.” Myers mentioned that similar feelings hit him when he travels to Los Angeles and New York. But at the end of the day, home is the best place for him to write. Like I mentioned, he’s been writing songs since he was seven years old. Now, a decade into songwriting, he’s close to mastering the art with basically his entire adult life ahead of him. One of those big, monumental adult moves will be getting his own house soon… and no, he’s not worried about losing that writing spark when he moves out: “I think it’s going to be good. Because I’m very picky. That’s why it’s taken so long because I really need the right environment and I’m really picky with it. But I think it’ll be good.” @whiskeyriff Listen to the Whiskey Riff Raff podcast @@Ty Myers##whiskeyriff##whiskeyriffraff ♬ Stay – Ty Myers To listen to the full interview with Ty Myers, make sure to check it out on YouTube or download the podcast on Apple Podcasts by searching “Whiskey Riff Raff” or by clicking here. “My People Were Still My People”: Zach Bryan Thought Oklahoma Was Going To Disown Him After ‘Bad News’ Backlash

Zach Bryan took some time to reflect after his Oklahoma tour stop. The country music superstar is currently on his With Heaven On Tour to share the music from his sixth studio album, With Heaven On Top, which released this past January. And this past weekend was setting up to be a special pair of shows before weather got in the way in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Bryan was supposed to play back-to-back nights at H.A. Chapman Stadium, but due to inclement weather, the first night was canceled. Fortunately, the weather cleared up the next day, and Zach was able to at least play one of his two home-state shows. The weekend also included his 30th birthday, and in a recent Instagram post, the “Pink Skies” singer was transparent about aging and spoke about how special his birthday was this time around: “I turned 30 last weekend and had two shows back home in Oklahoma. Reckon 30 is strange ‘cause you ain’t old and you definitely ain’t young. When I was 27, I figured I’d never make it to 30 but there I was, playing football and flying RC planes around with my family in a field after making it there. That night it thunder stormed and the winds were upwards of 70 miles an hour. There was that old smell in the air like water and grass that reminds you of childhood and Sammy and me were bunkered down with our pups in our tour bus. Every year I’ve had a wild party with copious amounts of booze and bowling, T.I. played one year and Creed played another and we would always be out all night and I’d get so tossed I couldn’t remember anything anyways. This year felt more fun because I was with people I actually liked, doing things I actually enjoy in the place I was raised.” Sounds like Zach Bryan was really able to slow down and enjoy his lowkey birthday. And in the later part of the country star’s message on social media, he thanked Oklahoma for continuing to accept him. Why would they have ever stopped? Well, Bryan mentioned the backlash that he faced when he teased – and then eventually released – his anti-ICE song “Bad News.” Zach figured that Oklahoma would have turned on him after that, but he was pleasantly surprised to still be welcomed with open arms in his home state: “The crowd was electric even though I thought Oklahoma disowned me after the whole ‘Bad News’ Fox News bulls**t but it was still home and my people were still my people. No matter who’s saying what, I feel at peace with myself in the world for once and that was worth every sh***y day. You can still come home. Thank you Oklahoma for making my birthday so special.” View this post on Instagram Interesting to include that in what is otherwise a very grateful and non-controversial statement of gratitude. It just goes to show that Bryan is still dealing with (or at least thinking about) the criticism he received when he shared a snippet of “Bad News” last October. You likely remember that the buzz around the song shot to the stratosphere when it was first teased, and even got the attention of the Department of Homeland Security. Of course, Zach wears his heart on his sleeve, always has… it’s why his writing hits so hard with fans. We did a deep dive on the song here after it was released, in case you wanted to check that out. And of course, here’s the full song that was released as a part of With Heaven On Top in case you haven’t heard it: “Bad News” by Zach Bryan The post “My People Were Still My People”: Zach Bryan Thought Oklahoma Was Going To Disown Him After ‘Bad News’ Backlash first appeared on Whiskey Riff.

49 Winchester, Stephen Wilson Jr., Carter Faith & More Headline First-Time ACM Award Nominees

Finally getting the respect they deserve. This morning, the Academy of Country Music announced its picks for the 2026 ACM Awards. After what seems like well over a decade of head-scratching nominations, snubs and wins, many were wondering if they would finally diverge from the mainstream stranglehold that they’ve so clearly found themselves in despite the growth of the independent and alt. country scene over the past five years. The nominees are in, and I have to admit, it’s one of the more interesting set of nominees we’ve seen in quite some time. Following the trend set last November at the CMA Awards, women absolutely dominate this year’s set of nominees. Riding the highs of her sophomore album, Cloud 9, Megan Moroney leads all artists with a staggering nine nominations. Highlighted by her first-ever Entertainer of the Year nod, she’d also receive nominations for Female Artist, Single (“6 Months Later”), Song (“Am I Okay”) and Artist-Songwriter of the Year. Ella Langley was shown a lot of love, getting seven nominations. These include her first-ever Female Artist of the Year nod as well as a Single and Song of the Year nomination for her record-breaking hit, “Choosin’ Texas,” and an Artist-Songwriter nod. Zach Top is also riding the well-deserved buzz gained at both the CMA Awards and Grammys recently, picking up four nominations for Male Artist of the Year (his first), Album of the Year (Ain’t In It For My Health) and Single and Song of the Year (“I Never Lie”). A familiar cast of characters (for the most part) occupy the Entertainer of the Year nominees, with Luke Combs, Jelly Roll, Cody Johnson, Megan Moroney, Chris Stapleton, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson all receiving nods in the jam-packed category. View this post on Instagram With that being said, however, there were a few surprises and extremely encouraging first-time nominations. From a mainstream perspective, it seems like Riley Green is finally getting the love that he deserves. Despite being one of the hottest artists in the genre as of late, Green was still being left off major categories such as Male Artist. This time around, however, he picked up nods for Male Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Don’t Mind If I Do: Deluxe), Artist-Songwriter and Music Event of the Year (“Don’t Mind If I Do”). The most celebrated nomination of the morning, however, is none other than 49 Winchester finally receiving their first-career nod for Group of the Year. Despite being one of the most talented bands in the genre for years at this point, they, along with bands like Turnpike Troubadours, Whiskey Myers, Shane Smith & the Saints, were consistently getting snubbed year in and year out. All things considered, the Group of the Year nominees might be the strongest in the entire show. 49 will be facing off against fellow alternative darlings, Flatland Cavalry and The Red Clay Strays, as well as Old Dominion and Rascal Flatts (no comment on the last two…). It’s still a disservice that Turnpike has yet to secure a nomination, especially considering the huge year they had in 2025, but it’s great to see 49 Winchester finally get the national attention they deserve. Another fascinating first-time nominee is none other than Carter Faith. It’s been pretty apparent that she’s destined to be one of the biggest female stars in today’s ultra-talented crop of women in country. With that being said, however, instead of receiving a New Female Artist nomination, her first ACM nod is for her stellar debut album, Cherry Valley, which is competing for the highly coveted Album of the Year. Undoubtedly, Faith and Cherry Valley absolutely deserve the nomination; however, it’s incredibly interesting (and rare) to see an artist’s first nomination be for Album of the Year. Stephen Wilson Jr. secured his first ACM nomination. Though it would have felt fitting for him to be nominated for New Artist of the Year, given the massive breakout he’s had over the past 12 months, he instead received a nod for his cinematic music video for “Cuckoo.” I would have liked to see Wilson Jr. receive a nom for something centering around his music first and foremost, but it’s still nice to see him continue to receive some national attention. Rounding out the first-time nominees are the likes of Hudson Westbrook, Avery Anna, Emily Ann Roberts, Mackenzie Carpenter, Caroline Jones and Thelma & James. Take a look at the entire list of nominees below: Entertainer of the Year Luke Combs Jelly Roll Cody Johnson Megan Moroney Chris Stapleton Morgan Wallen Lainey Wilson Female Artist of the Year Kelsea Ballerini Miranda Lambert Ella Langley Megan Moroney Lainey Wilson Male Artist of the Year Luke Combs Riley Green Cody Johnson Chris Stapleton Zach Top Group of the Year 49 Winchester Flatland Cavalry Old Dominion Rascal Flatts The Red Clay Strays Duo of the Year Brooks & Dunn Brothers Osborne Dan + Shay Muscadine Bloodline Thelma & James Album of the Year [Awarded to artist(s)/producer(s)/record Company–label(s)] Ain’t In It For My Health – Zach Top; Producer: Carson Chamberlain; Record Company-Label: Leo33 Cherry Valley – Carter Faith; Producer: Tofer Brown; Record Company-Label: Gatsby Records / MCA Don’t Mind If I Do (Deluxe) – Riley Green; Producers: Dann Huff, Michael Knox; Record Company-Label: Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment I’m The Problem – Morgan Wallen; Producers: Joey Moi, Charlie Handsome, Jacob Durrett; Record Company-Label: Big Loud Records Parker McCollum – Parker McCollum; Producers: Frank Liddell, Eric Masse; Record Company-Label: MCA Song of the Year “A Song To Sing” – Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton; Songwriters: Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Jenee Fleenor, Jesse Frasure “Am I Okay?” – Megan Moroney; Songwriters: Megan Moroney, Luke Laird, Jessie Jo Dillon “Choosin’ Texas” – Ella Langley; Songwriters: Ella Langley, Luke Dick, Miranda Lambert, Joybeth Taylor “I Never Lie” – Zach Top; Songwriters: Zach Top, Carson Chamberlain, Tim Nichols “Somewhere Over Laredo – Lainey Wilson; Songwriters: Lainey Wilson, Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson, Andy Albert, Harold Arlen & Yip Harburg Single of the Year “6 Months Later” – Megan Moroney “Choosin’ Texas” – Ella Langley “I Never Lie” – Zach Top “Somewhere Over Laredo” – Lainey Wilson “The Fall” – Cody Johnson Visual Media of the Year “6 Months Later” – Megan Moroney “A Song To Sing” – Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton “Cuckoo” -Stephen Wilson, Jr. “Somewhere Over Laredo” – Lainey Wilson “The Fall” – Cody Johnson Music Event of the Year “A Song To Sing” – Miranda Lambert & Chris Stapleton “Amen” – Shaboozey & Jelly Roll “Don’t Mind If I Do” – Riley Green feat.
