Senators Will Go Home Without Passing the Reconciliation Bill

Is it get-even time for President Trump not endorsing RINO John Cornyn? John Thune and his band of senators let the deadline for the reconciliation bill pass. They are all going home until June. The reconciliation bill is supposed to fund ICE and CBP. However, the Democrat Obama parliamentarian rejected the bill. She also rejected funds for the ballroom. President Trump hasn’t responded yet, but he probably won’t be pleased. They were concerned about the compensation fund, which caused the delays. Senators were too busy with the fund and spending bills. President Trump can’t get anything done legislatively. You would think Democrats won the Senate. https://www.independentsentinel.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/thune-missed-deadline-for-reconciliation.mp4 The post Senators Will Go Home Without Passing the Reconciliation Bill appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

The Democrat Autopsy of Why They Lost in 2024 Is a Waste of Time

The Democrat National Committee released the 2024 autopsy. It is a 192 page report that doesn’t explain why Kamala lost. It ignores the actual reasons, which include inflation, gas prices, pronouns, men in women’s sports and bathrooms, RFK and MAHA, the border, religion, hatred of white men, traditional values, and her inability to properly answer a question. Kamala was a terrible candidate, and yet she wants to run again. I hope she does. They left out their extreme leftist wokism as a possible reason. CNN’s Chris Cillizza zeroed in on the Biden omission, writing that the report contains “not ONE mention of Joe Biden’s advanced age or the strategic decision to shield him from a public that thought he was too old to continue as president.” “Unreal,” he added. Did they mention the coronation of Harris without a single vote? — Kerry (@K1erry) May 21, 2026 Reportedly, the autopsy claims the media was too right-wing for Democrats to win. No joke. That is what they think. Benny Johnson said they did note some accurate points: Trump’s they/them ads destroyed Harris Biden sabotaged her before she even started Lost connection with the working class They ignored rural America entirely Their whole message was “we’re not Trump.” What they didn’t notice was that they had no ideas for improving the country and needed to come up with some. The good news is Democrats still don’t get it and could keep losing. Ken Martin had excuses for it since it was a total waste of time. NOW: The Democratic National Committee has CAVED and RELEASED the 2024 autopsy report covering Kamala Harris’ pathetic loss, and DNC Chair Ken Martin is FURIOUS “It does not meet my standards” David Axelrod: “It’s a needless waste of time!” Run Kamala again, Democrats!… pic.twitter.com/NiYYaX9UUC — Eric Daugherty (@EricLDaugh) May 21, 2026 Kamala is a communist like her daddy. Kamala: We need to abolish the electoral college, expand the Supreme Court and make DC and Puerto Rico states. Abby Phillip: Is there really an argument against what she said? This is CNN. pic.twitter.com/4Tr30jy41G — Western Lensman (@WesternLensman) May 16, 2026 The post The Democrat Autopsy of Why They Lost in 2024 Is a Waste of Time appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Taxpayer-Funded Exorcisms? The Medicaid Debate Just Got Wild

California’s federally funded Medicaid program pays for exorcisms, herbal medicines, meal deliveries, and housing, among other services that don’t appear to be medically essential, Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) pointed out this week. Kennedy brought up California’s strange Medicaid payments during a Senate Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on Tuesday as he questioned Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. The Trump administration is engaged in a nationwide effort to root out fraud and has zeroed in on Democrat-run states, including California and Minnesota. During Tuesday’s hearing, which focused on the DOJ’s 2027 budget, Kennedy pointed out that for every $1 that California spends on Medicaid, American taxpayers spend $9 to prop up the system. “California will actually pay a healthcare provider, I didn’t know this was a medical expertise, to pay for exorcisms,” Kennedy said. The Wall Street Journal editorial board brought attention to California’s exorcism coverage in an op-ed published last week. In the piece, the Journal pointed out that exorcisms and tribal prayers are covered by Medicaid, along with activities “that support an eligible member’s inclusion in the community.” “California Medicaid program will pay for herbal medicines, meal deliveries. They’ll pay for housing. I don’t know what housing has to do with healthcare,” Kennedy added. “Is that correct?” “Yes,” Blanche replied. “Were you aware that the Medicaid program, using federal taxpayer money, will pay for an in-home chef?” Kennedy asked. “Yes, if it’s a family member,” Blanche said. “They’ll even pay for gymnasium fees in California. They’ll pay for bicycles, scooters, gym memberships. Did you know that?” Kennedy asked. “Yes,” Blanche said. “Several states do, but California does for sure. California has also used Medicaid funds to repay qualifying individuals’ student loans “to encourage them to become a healthcare provider,” according to Kennedy. “I was not aware of the student loans repayment,” Blanche said. California’s Medicaid payments have come under the microscope, and the Trump administration froze $1.3 billion in federal funds for the program earlier this month. Vice President JD Vance blasted the state’s leaders last week, saying, “The state of California has not taken fraud very seriously.” The state’s Medicaid fund has more than doubled since 2019, currently sitting at $220 billion, which is more than the entire general fund budget of any other state, according to the Journal. Vance’s anti-fraud task force has also focused on the Republican-led state of Ohio, following an investigation by Daily Wire reporter Luke Rosiak that uncovered billions of dollars in dubious “personal services” payments, allowing individuals to be paid to spend time with their own family.

The Disturbing Details Netflix Didn’t Include In ‘The Crash’

The latest Netflix documentary that has viewers glued to their TVs is “The Crash,” which tells the story of convicted murderer Mackenzie Shirilla and the deadly 2022 car crash that put her behind bars for 15 years to life. The 90-minute documentary features in-depth interviews with Shirilla’s parents, Natalie and Steve, and the families of the two young men killed in the crash: Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan. Prosecutors successfully argued that Shirilla, who was 17 at the time, intentionally crashed the vehicle at roughly 100 mph into a commercial building in Strongsville, Ohio, a suburb outside Cleveland, in the early morning hours of July 31, 2022. According to family and friends interviewed in the documentary, Russo had been involved in a “toxic” relationship with Shirilla, while Flanagan was a friend who joined the two in the car that fateful morning. While the Netflix show focuses heavily on the emotional fallout surrounding the case, key details found in reports from Strongsville Police show a more complete picture of Shirilla’s behavior and state of mind leading up to the crash. A central question in both the trial and documentary was whether the teenager really meant to crash a car at a high rate of speed into a brick building. While her parents said no, local authorities suggested the parents were aware their daughter was capable of doing harm. A detective said he was told by a police sergeant that Shirilla’s father, Steve, said she “intentionally” drove her vehicle into the building in an attempt to take her own life. Steve also told the sergeant his daughter was suicidal and asked that she remain in the hospital, according to the detective. At this time, Shirilla had just turned 18 while recovering in the hospital, meaning she was now an adult and could legally check herself out despite her father’s wishes. Another bombshell in the detective’s report claims Shirilla voluntarily engaged in sexual acts with other people “likely in exchange for monetary value.” Dozens of Snapchat messages and text messages indicate Shirilla requested money in exchange for pictures or meetups. The documentary includes interviews with several of Shirilla’s friends who defended her character and insisted she would never hurt anyone. But other witnesses interviewed by police described her driving as reckless and dangerous. One person said she “sucked at driving.” Police records also cite Snapchat videos allegedly recorded by Shirilla in April 2022 showing a vehicle speedometer reaching 93 mph in traffic. Rosie Graham, one of Shirilla’s strongest defenders in the documentary, was also cited in police records as telling friends not to get in the car with her. Shirilla’s efforts to overturn her conviction on appeal have so far failed. She is up for parole in 2037.

Hollywood’s Latest Race-Swap Debate Centers On Iconic Cartoon Character

It was announced this week that actress Quinta Brunson will star as Betty Boop in an upcoming film adaptation, sparking spirited discussion over Hollywood’s trend of casting traditionally white characters with actors of different races.  Daily Wire host Matt Walsh criticized the decision after Discussing Film shared the announcement on social media. “There is only one reason to bring back an iconic piece of Americana just to race swap it like this,” Walsh wrote. “Even a faithful Betty Boop reboot probably wouldn’t sell many tickets. A race swapped Betty Boop has absolutely no chance of success. But they do it anyway out of spite.” Walsh later claimed the account blocked him and disabled comments on the post after the backlash intensified. “This is a pretty interesting way to have a discussion about film,” he wrote in a follow-up post. The account “Discussing Film” turned off the comments and then blocked me. This is a pretty interesting way to have a discussion about film. pic.twitter.com/XIrQNOiL4w — Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) May 21, 2026 Daily Wire host Michael Knowles also weighed in on the controversy during his show on Thursday. “Betty Boop is a white lady. And it changes the story if you try to change that,” he said. “We’re told that race doesn’t matter. It’s a social construct. It’s totally meaningless. So all the white characters can and really should be played by black people or Hispanic people or just non-white people. But surely no one’s ever casting Tom Cruise to play Malcolm X in the autobiography of Malcolm X.” As the controversy lit up online, many commenters argued that Betty Boop was actually based on a black woman, but even the left-leaning outlet PBS admitted that is a misrepresentation. “A short item promoting PBS’ Black History Month programming suggested the Betty Boop cartoon character was based on a black performer of the Jazz Age,” the outlet posted in 2021. “That’s not entirely true.” The outlet noted that Betty Boop is widely believed to have been inspired by jazz performer Helen Kane. Betty Boop debuted on August 9, 1930, in the Fleischer Studios cartoon short “Dizzy Dishes,” in which she appeared as an anthropomorphic dog. Kane later sued Fleischer and Paramount Pictures in 1932, claiming Betty Boop was a “deliberate caricature” of her “baby vamp” persona, the outlet noted. Despite these facts, there are plenty of commenters who insist Betty Boop was inspired by the black singer Esther Jones, or, at the very least, that Kane was ripping off Jones the whole time, thereby indirectly contributing to the creation of the character. Brunson, best known for creating and starring in ABC’s “Abbott Elementary,” is developing and starring in the film adaptation through her company, Fifth Chance Productions, which teamed up with Mark Fleischer, who is the grandson of Betty Boop creator Max Fleischer, according to a Variety report.  The outlet noted that the movie will trace the origin and evolution of Betty Boop through the perspective of her creator. “Betty Boop is one of our nation’s most beloved cartoon characters, yet somehow still remains pleasantly niche,” Brunson wrote in a statement. “She has had a quiet but undeniable impact on culture for nearly a century. After Erin and I met with Mark and learned more about his grandfather’s creation of Betty, I realized there was a much deeper story to tell. One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive, and timeless, much like Betty herself.” Fleischer said, “When Quinta first approached me with the unique concept of a movie about the relationship of my grandfather, Max Fleischer, and his creation, Betty Boop, I was breathtaken. Quinta so embodies Betty’s love of life, intelligence, humor, sassiness and compassion that the relationship between her as Betty and Max burst into life at its mere mention.”

My Manifesto on AI and Religion

My Manifesto on AI and Religion

I’ve been watching, taking notes, writing, and talking privately about the intersection of AI and religion for almost four years. Over that same period, I have participated in extensive discussions with more than 200 AI engineers, tech leaders, policy makers, and religious leaders. I have accumulated hundreds of thousands of words in my head about the best approach to religious questions for AI. I’ve condensed those thoughts down to brass tacks in this mercifully short manifesto on AI and religion written for the leaders behind those foundational AI models.  Right now, there’s one especially significant problem in AI and religion: How do we get reliable and thorough answers for every religious tradition from the AI models? So far, the results have been mixed on the reliability and thoroughness of answers. But this problem is solvable. My thesis is simple: Answers to religious prompts—especially those with little to no prompt engineering—can be rapidly improved by (1) better training directly from the world religions themselves, and (2) applying a principled pluralist framework for religious freedom in the foundational AI models. Epistemology and Religious Trust Humanity is facing a significant problem that we’ve not encountered to this point. We’re about to go from a species that acquired knowledge through primary sources to a species that acquires knowledge through secondary sources. This moment places foundational AI models in a kind of high priestly epistemological seat. This is both good news and bad news for the foundational AI models.  Typically, AI corporations think their biggest choke points in the tech stack are silicon, memory, water, and energy. But there is a fifth choke point—public sentiment. On the one hand, there’s tremendous opportunity for progress and profit. But on the other hand, there’s tremendous risk of destroying the sentiment and public trust capital needed to grow and sustain that progress and profit.  In one of the largest religion surveys ever conducted, Ryan Burge and I discovered that, perhaps surprisingly, people who are actively religious are the ones who have the highest confidence in AI right now: Imagine the year is 2028 and a major world religion files a religious bias class action lawsuit on behalf of all adherents of that religion and names many of the foundational AI models as defendants. The suit claims that the models biased one religion over another and/or made inaccurate or incomplete statements about the fundamental tenets of that religion. That case would force all sorts of interesting legal arguments surrounding the First Amendment and Section 230. Nevertheless, this scenario is probably something these corporations would want to avoid. Currently I believe many of the models are at risk.  Simple Solution As humanity goes from acquiring knowledge from primary sources to secondary sources via generative AI, it’s critical that religious knowledge be transferred accurately and thoroughly for any and all traditions. The free exchange of accurate and thorough religious ideas is critical to both freedom of speech and religious freedom. On these grounds I argue for a principled pluralist framework that allows every religious tradition to accurately and thoroughly share its core tenets.  Here’s how this can be accomplished. First, foundational models can work directly with top scholars of each major world religion to receive better training sets, especially as it pertains to essential, non-contested, and universally accepted aspects of each major religious tradition or group. While one might observe that this training data is already in the models, there is still confusion at points on key technical terms. One of the many challenges are polysemic words like “atonement” where different religious traditions use the same word but with different definitions. This and other similar linguistic challenges can lead to equivocation and other issues from the model. Better training could be provided to help on Q&A databases, glossaries of technical terms, and helping to curate the most critical creeds, confessions, and catechisms to better fine-tune the model weights and tighten up the graph database. Second, I recommend a principled pluralist framework regarding how models answer the highest altitude questions about major world religions. Take, for example, the question “Did Jesus rise from the dead?” This is perhaps the single most important question in evaluating the claims of Christianity. You can answer this question as true/false or from a pluralist framework. Both may be well-intentioned in AI alignment. But both ultimately fail. Here’s why:.  There are four relevant parties in any religious AI prompt: The AI Model  Policymakers World Religions The User In the true/false framework, the model seeks to answer the question on the merits of its claims based on the veracity of the training data. This approach can be problematic for numerous parties. It might result in religious bias claims from major world religions, policymakers, and users—perhaps even in class action legal suits. Christians might like this answer until they realize the same technology that has it saying Jesus probably rose from the dead might also say that Joseph Smith and Mohammed are probably true prophets of God. The algorithmic knife cuts both ways. In the pluralist framework, the model seeks to answer the question a bit like a “COEXIST” bumper sticker. The model would take the resurrection question and give space for, “Christianity says A, Islam says X, Judaism says Y, and skeptics say Z.” This choose-your-own-adventure approach has some merit. On the one hand, it gets the AI model makers out of adjudicating thorny and highly contested religious questions, and it lets them say, “Here are some options, you decide . . . it’s a matter of faith.”  But this approach pleases no parties. The pluralist framework creates answers that are too brief, as they shoehorn numerous perspectives into the few hundred words in their answers. Not every basic religious tenet can be explained in 150 words. And the pluralist framework is open to the critique that it presents the options in roughly coequal fashion, as if every idea had strong merits. On these grounds, the models upset the world religions, and they also open the models to critique from policymakers and users. I don’t think model makers want to be adjudicating questions about whether Jesus rose from the dead or whether Joseph Smith or Mohammed was a true prophet of God. There is a solution, however, that lines up the tumblers of the four disparate interests—the principled pluralist framework. In this framework, the model answers the question, “Did Jesus rise from the dead?” like this: Opening Paragraph “You’ve asked a question about Christianity, and the following answer is coming from the perspective of adherents of the historic Christian faith . . .” Body Several hundred words explaining universally held Christian arguments regarding Jesus’s resurrection from the dead and how it addresses skeptical counter arguments. Closing Paragraph “If you were looking for a perspective from a different religious tradition, a skeptical perspective, or some other perspective, we can take the conversation in that direction.” At first glance, this might seem similar to the pluralist approach. But there are three differences. First, the answer is framed as a subjective reply from the single vantage point of that particular religious tradition. Second, the body of the response is given exclusively to that tradition so that the response is free from the critique that there was a lack of thoroughness. Third, the response finishes by giving the user agency to take the conversation in any direction they wish. The principled pluralist model allows the AI models to answer high-altitude questions about core doctrines from the vantage point of the adherents of that tradition. It allows them to answer the questions accurately and thoroughly from the lens of that tradition. The model gets out of adjudicating things it probably shouldn’t adjudicate. Policymakers and world religions are no longer upset about claims of religious bias. The user gets educated on what a particular tradition teaches, and if that answer wasn’t what they were looking for, they still have complete control of where to steer the conversation next. This framework would only be applied to basic questions about each world religion where there is strong agreement. Questions that deal with lower consensus, secondary, and tertiary matters can be handled differently. Models can say, “There are a variety of views within this religious tradition on this question. Here is a summary of each of those viewpoints.” The foundational models have much to work on in the coming months and years, especially in the area of ethics. I will cover policy thoughts on children and a host of other important issues another time. But in my tradition, ethics is downstream from theology. That is why I want to start with epistemological framing.  This approach allows every religious tradition to communicate their core message, no matter how large or small their training data footprint. This approach frees models from accusations of bias. This approach eliminates the need for complex alignment on central religious tenets. This approach makes proponents of religious freedom happy on the political right. This approach makes proponents of religious pluralism happy on the left. Every religion is left with the ability to compete in the marketplace of ideas on the merits of their ideas, doctrines, and claims.  These issues are solvable. These issues can be fixed quickly and cheaply. I want to help. Let’s talk.
