No, it was the fact that President Trump just named TWO more people as “Central Casting”. Look, I’m not saying there is some big grand conspiracy here, but he sure does love using that phrase.  Central Casting.  I would know, because we’ve probably covered it over 50 times now over the last five years. The phrase really showed up back in 2020 and since then has continued to be used very often by our President. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pressing forward with a plan to acquire large warehouses across the United States and convert them into immigration detention facilities to expand detention capacity, Bloomberg reports. The outlet cites examples of warehouse purchases costing millions of dollars in states such as Texas and Arizona. A third in El Paso, Texas, could be among the largest jails of any kind in the country if completed as envisioned, with 8,500 beds. The deals mark the latest turn in US Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s plan to use as many as 23 warehouses for detaining thousands of immigrants arrested by federal agents in Minneapolis and other cities. Those aggressive enforcement actions have ignited clashes with protesters and led to agents killing two US citizens. On Jan. 16, the administration paid $102 million for a site near Hagerstown, Maryland, according to a local court filing. A week later, the government paid $70 million in cash for a warehouse in Surprise, Arizona. The price tags — roughly in line with the industry average for the warehouse market — cover just the acquisition of the sites, which are currently empty shells. ICE still has to pay companies to outfit the buildings with toilets, showers, beds, dining and recreation areas and then run them as detention centers. The El Paso site was purchased by the Department of Homeland Security recently, according to people familiar with the transaction who asked not to be named discussing a confidential process. But the sale price hasn’t yet been made public. As the political pressure intensifies, some deals are collapsing. Canadian billionaire Jim Pattison’s company said Friday that a transaction to sell its 550,000-square-foot warehouse in Ashland, Virginia, “will not be proceeding.” Earlier in the week, the company had said it had initially agreed to sell the facility to a US government contractor but that “some time later, we became aware of the ultimate owner and intended use of the building.” It added: “We understand that the conversation around immigration policy and enforcement is particularly heated, and has become much more so over the past few weeks. The State of Florida tested dozens of popular candy products for the presence of heavy metals, which produced alarming results. “Governor Ron DeSantis, First Lady Casey DeSantis, and Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo announced new food safety findings under the Healthy Florida First initiative, with the release of candy product testing results conducted by the Florida Department of Health (DOH) to provide greater transparency for Florida families and strengthen accountability for products marketed to children,” the Florida Department of Health stated in a release. “Our ‘Healthy Florida First’ initiative promotes innovation, ensures accountability, and empowers Floridians to make the healthiest choices for their families. Transparency is vital to that mission,“ Gov. DeSantis said. “Today, First Lady Casey DeSantis, Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, and I were proud to announce that Florida has expanded this initiative by evaluating other products marketed for children. Many of the tested candies contained elevated levels of arsenic. “The Florida Department of Health tested 46 different candy brands from 10 different companies. Candy brands with no detected arsenic in their products included Yum Earth, Unreal, Annie’s, Reese’s, and Whoppers. “As parents and consumers, we should have confidence that the products sold in grocery stores are safe and free from poison,” Casey DeSantis said. “No one should have to wonder whether the food that they are feeding their children is quietly impacting their health over time. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has long spoken against ultra-processed foods or factory-made formulations produced largely from refined ingredients, additives such as colorings and preservatives, and little-to-no whole foods. He has also vowed to look at heavy metals in baby formula. In January, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Department of Agriculture released new U.S. Dietary Guidelines that recommend more protein, fewer grains, less sugar and ultra-processed foods. The protest was part of the national “ICE Out” rally. Organizers of the movement are demanding that federal immigration agents leave their neighborhoods. The day of action also called for a “national strike,” asking people to keep their children home from school, stay home from work and not buy anything. The protest began outside City Hall before the protesters marched to East L.A. It’s just one of many protests around the country in response to two deadly shootings involving immigration agents who killed two U.S. citizens in Minnesota. Shortly before 5 p.m., AIR7 video captured the moment a group of protesters began to clash with federal agents outside the federal detention center in downtown Los Angeles. It appeared some protesters were throwing items toward officers before pepper spray was deployed. LAPD declared a citywide tactical alert, meaning all officers need to stay on shift. Later, a dispersal order was issued as officers formed skirmish lines near the federal building. If they don’t comply, then hopefully, we will see some arrests happening. The New York Times has more: The former CNN anchor Don Lemon and three other people arrested on charges that they violated federal law during a protest at a church in St. Paul, Minn., were released on Friday after initial court hearings. Mr. Lemon vowed to fight the charges after he and a group of journalists and activists were indicted by a grand jury in Federal District Court in Minnesota. They were charged with a conspiracy to deprive the congregants of the church of their rights and to interfere with religious freedom in a house of worship, reviving a case that was rejected last week by a magistrate judge. The indictment named a total of nine people — seven protesters, Mr. Lemon and a second journalist. Seven of those charged have appeared in court, and four were released on Friday. The prosecution faced pushback from defense lawyers on First Amendment grounds, given that political protest sits at the center of the indictment and that Mr. Lemon and the other journalist who was charged, Georgia Fort, have said they entered the church to cover a demonstration against the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in the area. Late Friday afternoon, Mr. Lemon appeared in court at a federal building in downtown Los Angeles wearing a white suit. Lawyers for the government sought a $100,000 bond and asked to restrict Mr. Lemon’s travel to Minneapolis, to face the charges, and to New York, where he lives. Mr. Lemon was not asked to enter a plea, and his arraignment was scheduled for Feb. 9 in federal court in Minneapolis. “I have spent my entire career covering the news,” Mr. Lemon told reporters on Friday outside the federal building after he was released without bond. “I will not stop now. How does a nonexistent winery jump from $15k to $5 million in one year when the company is a ghost? How can Omar claim this fake company provides her millions in assets? Seems like a cover. The investment firm belonging to Rep. Ilhan Omar’s husband Tim Mynett is once again under fire for (alleged) fraud. We already know that the firm, Rose Lake Capital, miraculously ballooned from being worth next to nothing to around $30 million in just a few years. But now, Forbes chairman Steve Forbes just revealed something even more shocking. According to Forbes, there is absolutely no record of the investment firm managing money — or even having any clients! He says that the whole thing appears to be a giant money laundering scheme. Trump, 79, noted the Land of 10,000 Lakes was already being probed for “welfare fraud” — but Omar, “who left Somalia with NOTHING” and is now worth tens of millions of dollars, according to her congressional financial disclosures, would also be put under investigation… House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) previously told The Post that his panel was weighing a subpoena for Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, who has had several lucrative businesses. The Republican chairman acknowledged he expects fierce pushback from both Omar and Mynett in the courts, as he and Oversight investigators seek to uncover what caused the “big spike” in the far-left pol’s assets. Mynett’s investment firm, Rose Lake Capital, had only $42.44 in its bank account as of 2022, per court filings as part of a lawsuit filed in South Dakota against a related company. Omar’s 2024 House financial disclosures, however, show Rose Lake Capital was worth up to $25 million. The Democrat has not disclosed a personal ownership stake in the firm, though spouses’ assets must be listed in the congressional disclosures. Other filings about Mynett’s additional business ventures — including a winery and pot farm that he has since abandoned — brought the couple’s total net worth to between $6 million and $30 million. “Somebody’s going to find out,” Comer has said of the surging asset values. “It’s either going to be my committee or the Ethics Committee.”
