Drone and artillery strikes by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces on a shelter in the Sudanese city of Al Fashir killed at least 60 people on Friday night and Saturday morning, according to local activists. Al-Fashir is under siege by the RSF as it struggles to wrest control of the army’s last stronghold in the Darfur region. The siege has spread hunger and disease in the city and relentless drone and artillery strikes have hit displacement shelters, mosques, and hospitals and clinics. It said in a later statement that the shelter had been hit twice by drones and eight times by artillery shells. The resistance committee said hundreds of civilians have been killed by the attacks, and residents who spoke to Reuters said they had dug bunkers into their homes and neighborhoods for protection. Conservative commentator Benny Johnson pressed Democrats about mainstreaming political violence after the Department of Justice arrested and charged a man for sending Johnson communication fantasizing about the conservative’s assassination. The threatening communication was sent to Johnson’s home, where he lives with his wife and four young children. The incident occurred just days after the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, 31. Johnson founded TPUSA Productions back in 2018 and was close friends with Kirk. Alongside Attorney General Pam Bondi, Johnson spoke at a press conference on Friday. He said the man who threatened him, who’s been identified as a California man named George Russell Isbell Jr., wanted him dead because Johnson is a white, male, Christian Trump supporter. “They described in great detail how I’d be killed in an open field, just like Charlie. How much blood would come out of my head and neck when it was blown off,” Johnson said. “This individual described orphaning my children and widowing my wife, with great joy.” “You might want to say, ‘another left-wing radical, another extremist,'” Johnson continued. “And to that, I’d like to direct your attention to the state of Virginia, where Democrats have nominated and are about to vote for the chief law enforcement officer in that state, a man who has done the exact same thing. This was a coward hiding behind a keyboard who thought he could get away with this.” According to the DOJ, the letter sent to Johnson was mailed around September 18, eight days after Kirk was assassinated. The letter said Johnson needed “to be exterminated” and referenced Kirk. “Maybe someone will blow your head off!!! We can hope!” the letter said. “Planning any public engagements?
