Charles Wesley Godwin Plays Some Of His Greatest Hits During ‘Red Rocks Trail Mix Session’
Charles Wesley Godwin took his fans on a walk through his entire musical career thus far in this intimate performance for his “Red Rocks Trail Mix Session.”
Back on October 15, Charles Wesley Godwin and the Allegheny High made their headlining debut at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado. It was a huge, monumental moment for the West Virginia native, and he and his band made the most of the night as they checked the venue off their musical bucket list.
And a cool, additional project that came out of Godwin’s trip to Denver, Colorado was his very own “Red Rocks Trail Mix Session.” In the video, Charles and his band played three songs, and Godwin talked about his love for songwriting, how grateful he is to be doing what he’s doing for a living, and how wild it was for him to finally get to play Red Rocks:
“My wife and I came to a show here as fans about 10 years ago. I remember she looked over at me at some point during the evening and she was like, ‘You’re gonna play up there someday.’ I was like, ‘You think? Probably not.’ I could never dream of reaching this level. The dream for me at that time was to be able to fill up listening rooms around the country. I never really envisioned making it this far.”
I’ll speak for everyone out there when I say that Charles Wesley Godwin most certainly deserves to have made it this far.
He’s one of the most talented and underrated artist in country music today, and his three albums (and multiple EPs) have all been stellar, complete masterpieces that have allowed for his unique, Appalachian sound to shine through. And that very style was the perfect fit when Godwin and some of his bandmates stood out in the nature surrounding Red Rocks for their Trail Mix Session:
“The boys and I put together a couple of acoustic tunes before our Red Rocks show last month. Tried to fit one or two surprises in for you, hope you enjoy!”

As for which songs Charles Wesley Godwin decided to highlight during the acoustic session set within the backdrop of the red rocks of Morrison, Colorado, you could tell that CWG was very intentional with his “Trail Mix” setlist.
The country music star first kicked things off by going back to the hit “Blood Feud” from his 2021 album How The Mighty Fall. He followed that by paying homage to the album that helped him start his career in the first place. “Coal Country” from Godwin’s 2019 debut project Seneca sounded great as it echoed throughout the national historic landmark. To wrap things up, and likely to honor a song that helped him get to Red Rocks in the first place, he and his band played “Family Ties” from the 2023 album of the same name.
Those are all great examples of Charles Wesley Godwin’s incomparable songwriting, which he took a moment to talk about in the video as well:
“When I write, it’s what’s on my heart. And first and foremost, it’s to make me happy. It’s kind of my therapy… the songwriting part of this. It’s a positive side effect that it affects people positively.”
If you’ve got an extra 15 minutes or so, the whole video is well worth your time. Especially if you consider yourself a Charles Wesley Godwin fan, and at this point, I don’t know why you wouldn’t be.
