This awesome new Windows 11 AI feature is making Mac users jealous

I was annoyed earlier this year to see that the signature feature of Apple Intelligence that Apple unveiled last year turned out to be vaporware, at least for now. I'm talking about smart Siri, which should be able to surface information from the apps you have installed on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to help you control some apps. Apparently, it isn't reliable enough for Apple to release just yet. So, we have to wait. While I'm willing to wait for Apple's AI to actually deliver something compelling (and I say that as an iPhone and Mac user in the EU who might have to wait even longer for new software features), I do see all the AI novelties available from rivals, and I get jealous. The latest one is a new Windows 11 AI capability that's rolling out to some users. I caught a glimpse of it on social media, and I won't lie, I love what Microsoft is doing with Copilot on Windows 11, even though I won't switch to Windows anytime soon. You can now invoke Copilot by saying "Hey, Copilot" on Copilot+ PCs and have a chat with the AI while you're busy working on something else. That's something I can't even dream of for Siri. In fact, I've had Siri turned off on the Mac for years. Continue reading... The post This awesome new Windows 11 AI feature is making Mac users jealous appeared first on BGR. How to reclaim space for civil society in times of democratic decline

In a time when civil society voices are increasingly dismissed as radical or disloyal, new research led by Ph.D. student Lee Aldar and Professor Eran Halperin at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, found that a discourse emphasizing shared values and common goals—like fairness, solidarity, and support for vulnerable communities—can significantly boost the legitimacy of controversial civil groups, even among skeptical or even hostile public.

AI predicts bacterial resistance to cleaning agents

A group of researchers, including scientists from the DTU National Food Institute, have developed a method that, with the help of artificial intelligence and DNA decoding, can predict how well disease-causing bacteria such as Listeria tolerate disinfectants. This research may become a valuable weapon in the fight against harmful bacteria in the food industry.

An ancient warming event may have lasted longer than we thought

Fifty-six million years ago, during the Paleocene-Eocene Thermal Maximum (PETM), global temperatures rose by more than 5°C over 100,000 or more years. Between 3,000 and 20,000 petagrams of carbon were released into the atmosphere during this time, severely disrupting ecosystems and ocean life globally and creating a prolonged hothouse state.

Space mission discovers 'bullet-like' winds shooting from a supermassive black hole

Researchers have discovered that ultra-fast wind surrounding a supermassive black hole is not smooth and continuous as previously assumed, but instead resembles a rapid-fire stream of gas "bullets."
