A lightning bolt can be seen striking a pole on the left side of the street, causing a bright flash before flames and smoke surround the pole. Powerlines on the other side of the road can be seen emitting sparks moments after. “A bit too much excitement for a Monday!” the department said in the social media post. The Mount Pleasant Police Department cruiser was traveling on Highway 17 near Shelmore Boulevard when lightning struck a utility pole. The lightning strike and explosion knocked out power in the area and caused Highway 17 to close in both directions for several hours. Police said no one was injured during the incident.
