Devon Sawa to Star in New Return of the Living Dead Movie

News Return of the Living Dead Devon Sawa to Star in New Return of the Living Dead Movie The new film will be the sixth installment in the horror comedy franchise. By Vanessa Armstrong | Published on October 3, 2025 Credit: SYFY Comment 0 Share New Share Credit: SYFY The Return of the Living Dead, the 1985 horror comedy film involving zombies who eat people’s brains (the first zombie movie to feature that, in fact) is getting a new installment in the franchise from writer-director Steve Wolsh (Fog City, Mush). At Los Angeles Comic Con last weekend (via The Hollywood Reporter), Wolsh and newly announced cast members Devon Sawa (pictured above in Chucky, Final Destination), Casimere “Cash” Jollette (Tiny Pretty Things), Kynlee Heiman (The Best Christmas Pageant Ever), and Alexander Ward (Westworld, American Horror Story, Annabelle Comes Home) took part in a panel to share news on their roles and where things are in production. The upcoming Return of the Living Dead is not a reboot, but is set to take place in December 1985, 18 months after the original film, in a small Pennsylvania town. Sawa will star as Isaac Horton, while Jollette and Heiman play Delilah and Sophia Horton, respectively. Ward, who has played a slew of villains and monsters in his career, will take on the role of the gooey zombie, Tarman. The movie will be the sixth in the franchise, and has already started shooting, with additional filming expected to take place in Massachusetts once there’s some snow on the ground. Los Angeles Comic Con guests saw a new teaser that wasn’t publicly released, but there’s also a teaser out for the film from a few months ago, which features everyone’s favorite gooey zombie, Tarman, dragging a Christmas tree through a cemetery. (Note: while this teaser boasts a December 2025 release, the movie has been delayed and won’t come out until sometime next year.) The Battle Over ‘One Battle After Another’

The Battle Over ‘One Battle After Another’

Not every new movie marks another battle in the current culture wars. But “One Battle After Another” certainly should. Director Paul Thomas Anderson’s film has received rave critical reviews and instant Oscar frontrunner status—but a mixed reception from audiences confused as to what the movie is even about. This film is basically the doppelganger of “The Hunt” (2020), in which a cabal of self-righteous and disgruntled leftists track down and kill a gaggle of rednecks for revenge and sport. In “One Battle After Another,” hunter and hunted switch roles, with a right-wing megalomaniac pursuing an on-the-run leftist anarchist and his daughter. Like “The Hunt,” the film tries to walk the line between parody and political commentary. But here’s how its audience breaks down. The Liberals—who loved it. Critics called the film a “wake up call” that reembraces the “good old days” of the 1960s and 70s, when right-thinking people—in their minds, presumably the Weathermen and the Black Panthers—stood for something. To them, this movie shows where America is headed if we don’t head off the systematic marginalization and oppression of Black Americans and Latinx and the death of democracy. Here’s a typical summary of the film’s supposed relevance: “You could see that rallying cry play out this past week when public outrage over Donald Trump and the FCC’s attack on free speech forced ABC to push back against the administration and put Jimmy Kimmel back on the air. That is One Battle After Another’s fight as well—and I imagine Anderson is hoping that you see that now, before the Lockjaw-esque [Sean Penn] figures of the world have the power to make it even more of a reality. So yes, the film spends a significant time forcing Bob Ferguson [Leonardo DiCaprio] into the fight, because that’s the exact kind of person who needs to hear it most.”   It was as if AOC’s every angst, desire, fantasy, and nightmare were made into a single montage for the silver screen. Adding to the appeal are the film’s “originality” and splash of “hipness,” an aesthetic apparently patented only by the left. The Conflicted—who applauded. Millennials, in particular, found the film an odd mixture of perplexing and entertaining. Bored with politics and extremism, and old before their time, they see the film as a parable of what happens when the Left and Right take their politics to the edge. The result? Illogical nonsense—clueless, paranoid old, drug-hazed hippies living in trailers and fighting gun-crazed white supremacists trying to purify the bloodline. Both look ridiculous. These viewers would prefer the two sides kill each other off and return to a world where there are no riots or government shutdowns, a latte is reasonably priced, a long weekend in Ibiza is within reach, and you can match on Tinder without declaring political affiliations and pronouns.    The Angry—who wanted their money back. Conservatives, who were never too happy about all being classified as rednecks and tracked by hunting parties in “The Hunt,” are now deeply offended by this film, which most charitably could be called ill-timed. In the movie, Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers act like the Nazi stormtroopers leftist politicians are always complaining about—ignoring the consequences of their hateful rhetoric, which has sparked an unprecedented wave of violence against normal law enforcement officers. Meanwhile, the good guys, the simple leftists yearning to be free, commit bombings, execute a poor black security guard, and engage in human trafficking. In the wake of attempted and successful political assassinations, as well as a controversy over a real-life cop-killing terrorist who fled to Cuba and was declared a civil rights hero, you would think someone might have raised their hand and said, “Hey, maybe this isn’t the best time to premiere this particular film?”  But no. Instead, the attitude seems to have been a desire not just to glorify violence and revel in obscene ridicule of American conservatives, but to ensure the film wins every Golden Globe and Oscar—basically, getting Jimmy Kimmel back on the air on steroids. These three tribes’ reactions perfectly encapsulate the current faces in American political culture. The Empty Left. There is nothing more pathetic than today’s diehard Left, which continues to believe itself in the right—even as Americans increasingly tell them they are not. As if being on the 20 side of every 80/20 issue were not bad enough, the Left continually have to remind us how vacuous they really are with bankrupt ideology and an agenda that reads like a menu with as many choices as Raising Cane’s. This film’s hailed originality is merely a case in point. Virtually every aspect of the film is utterly derivative. Quentin Tarantino made a career out faking hip by stealing from every Spaghetti Western trope and 70s exploitation movie motif. Anderson, a once truly gifted director, did a gloss on Tarantino like Rembrandt doing fingerpainting. It’s the kind of smug, lazy, graceless, morally hallow, and listless popular culture we have come to expect from the Left—just like that on display in the latest episode of “Law and Order: SVU,” which portrays ICE agents trying to obstruct a rape investigation. The Lonely Center. It’s understandable that many want to live in an America where “we all just get along.” For them, this film was a wake up like a triple shot of espresso—extremism is, well just too extreme. They’re right. Both the Weatherman Underground of the 1960s and the White Supremacists groups like the Order in the 1980s (both resurrected in One Battle After Another) were extremist dead ends that deserved to die. But America’s problem today isn’t terrorist extremists. Instead, it’s that America is being led by two political parties headed in opposite directions. Trying to just forget the extremists and meet in the middle is like ignoring the off-ramps and driving off the middle of a bridge.  America has to decide whether it wants to be a center-right or center-left country.  Our problem is not whataboutism. The lonely center needs to pick a side. They might find “One Battle After Another” funny and action-packed entertainment, but it offers no more answers to their problem than “The Princess Bride” (1987) offers effective marriage counseling. The Rising Right. Conservatives are increasingly the cool kids. They are picked on now in movies not as hapless losers—like the rednecks in “The Hunt”—but as a rising force threatening the established order—like the rebels in “Braveheart” (1995) and “The Patriot” (2000). Fierce, divisive name-calling politics and increasingly organized political violence will not stop the movement. Films like “One Battle After Another” are no threat—they’re the dying gasp of a fading political ideology.  Nevertheless, “One Battle After Another” reminds us that popular culture remains one of the last secure bastions of leftist power. The freak-out over Jimmy Kimmel’s suspension had nothing to do with protecting the First Amendment and everything to do with leftists’ fear over watching the late-night TV castle wall be breached yet again. The Left is panicking. Its stranglehold on popular culture is loosening—and arms full of Oscars and a new Taylor Swift album won’t tighten things up. Unlike the Left, the Right doesn’t need to riot to get people’s attention. For one, conservatives are winning by shunning leftist drivel—picking Greg Gutfeld over Stephen Cobert and dumping Netflix subscriptions for the company’s transgender pandering. For another, conservatives can create more quality content—not the Right’s cartoonish version of films like “One Battle After Another,” but movies, video, music, theater, and prose that authentically address the challenges of contemporary life. RFK: Abortion Drug Approval Required By Law, Agency Still Investigating Mifepristone

Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a new abortion pill only because of a federal law requirement. In a post on X Thursday evening, Kennedy said the FDA, which is part of HHS, “only approved a second, generic mifepristone tablet because federal law requires approval when … the generic is identical to the brand-name drug.” The Biden administration removed mifepristone’s in-person dispensing rule without studying the safety risks. We are filling that gap. Last month, I joined @DrMakaryFDA in writing to state attorneys general, pledging to review all the evidence — including real-world outcomes — on… pic.twitter.com/G0eE4H4y42— Secretary Kennedy (@SecKennedy) October 2, 2025 Kennedy’s statement followed a major outcry from conservatives after it was discovered Thursday that the FDA had quietly approved a generic version of mifepristone earlier this week. That outcry included posts from former Vice President Mike Pence, who called for Kennedy’s resignation, as well as Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., who called the FDA approval of the drug “shocking.” The Trump Administration’s approval of a generic chemical abortion drug is a complete betrayal of the pro-life movement that elected President Trump. Earlier this year, I opposed RFK’s nomination because he was unfit for the role and particularly over the concern that he would… https://t.co/B1rRgkF5iO— Mike Pence (@Mike_Pence) October 2, 2025 Mifepristone, a drug commonly used for chemical abortions, has been linked to serious risks, with 11% of women suffering serious adverse reactions within 45 days of using the drug to induce an abortion. On Sept. 19, Kennedy, along with FDA Commissioner Dr. Martin Makary, pledged to study “the adverse consequences reported in relation to mifepristone” in response to a letter from Republican state attorneys general asking HHS to review the drug. In his post Thursday, Kennedy pointed to that pledge, saying his agency is filling a gap the Biden administration left when it “removed mifepristone’s in-person dispensing rule without studying the safety risks.” Some saw that pledge to investigate safety as an unacceptable threat to mifepristone access. Earlier this week, a coalition of 20 liberal state attorneys general published a statement vowing to protect mifepristone within their states. But others think the HHS and the FDA need to go further. Kelsey Pritchard, director of state public affairs at Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, told The Daily Signal on Thursday, “We are calling on FDA to immediately reverse course and end the mail order of abortion drugs, which is a Biden-era policy.” The post RFK: Abortion Drug Approval Required By Law, Agency Still Investigating Mifepristone appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Kimmel Disparages ICE, Says Super Bowl Presence Is About Tackling Brown People

Recently, the Department of Homeland Security has announced ICE will be at February’s Super Bowl. This may strike normal people as uncontroversial given its historical precedent and the amount of security needed for the Super Bowl, but for ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel on Thursday, ICE’s Super Bowl deployment allows it to do its number one job: tackle brown people. Kimmel’s ramblings came against the backdrop of conservative reaction to Bad Bunny being named this season’s halftime performer, “Oh man, so much outrage. One of Trump's top henchweasels, Homeland Security advisor Corey Lewandowski, is very angry at the NFL too. He said, ‘It's shameful that they decided to pick someone who just seems to hate America so much.’”     According to Kimmel, the person who really hates America is President Trump, “We said the same thing the day after the election.” He also saw irony in Lewandowski’s idea that the Super Bowl should not be a politically divisive event, “And then he said, ‘There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people out there who could be playing at that show that would bring people together and not separating them.’ Do these people even hear themselves talking?’” By that logic, no law should ever be enforced because sending criminals to jail is “separating” them from their families. However, Kimmel then took on ICE itself, “So now, because this Bunny is so very bad, they are planning to have ICE agents present at the Super Bowl. I guess, there's a reason. ICE heard there was a field where brown people get tackled and they’re like, 'Hey, that's our job.’” ICE was present at the Super Bowl in February, under President Trump, and nobody thought that was a big deal because it wasn’t. But for liberals like Kimmel, who think history starts today, every normal thing the administration does must also be included on the list of evidence that states that the administration is racist and a threat to democracy. Here is a transcript for the October 2 show: ABC Jimmy Kimmel Live! 10/2/2025 11:40 PM ET JIMMY KIMMEL: Oh man, so much outrage. One of Trump's top henchweasels, Homeland Security advisor Corey Lewandowski, is very angry at the NFL too. He said, “It's shameful that they decided to pick someone who just seems to hate America so much.”  We said the same thing the day after the election. And then he said, "There are plenty of great bands and entertainment people out there who could be playing at that show that would bring people together and not separating them."  Do these people even hear themselves talking? So now, because this Bunny is so very bad, they are planning to have ICE agents present at the Super Bowl. I guess, there's a reason. ICE heard there was a field where brown people get tackled and they’re like, “Hey, that's our job.

STUPID: MSNBC's Ruhle Tries to Spin Comey Prosecution as Free Speech Assault

On Wednesday night, MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle and her 11th Hour guests cobbled the recent prosecution against former FBI Director James Comey into a larger conspiracy President Trump supposedly has against the First Amendment. The discussion was based on an NBC News article covering a letter signed by over 40 retired state and federal judges condemning Trump for targeting his political enemies. The letter failed to mention that Comey was indicted over lying to and obstructing the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ruhle threw an easy lay-up, but political commentator Hagar Chemali did not take the bait: RUHLE: Hagar, a lot of people might not care about the Jim Comey prosecution, but does this explain why they should? CHEMALI: It is, I think — listen. When I read this article, to me, at first I really had to figure out, why? What was the connection being made on free speech? Because given if you look at the indictment … when I was reading that, I was looking through, the thing that struck out at me was how much he and his deputy kept trying to place things in the news, and didn't try to place things in the news. And this is not, in my experience in government, that's not something the law enforcement guys really do. The free speech triple-entendre is oft overlooked to comedic effect. Not only should Comey not have leaked to the press (allegedly), he also should not have lied to Congress (allegedly). And MSNBC thinks the prosecution is about Comey’s freedom to disagree with Trump. Chemali placated her fellow panelists by disparaging political targeting, yet refused to give in to the distortion: But I also, when I was reading it, I was like, “What are you doing?” And that's what I think the American people have to care about. Why are they trying to play in the press at all? Why — and that's to me, the freedom of speech piece, I didn't totally see the connection. Because there is no connection. MSNBC wanted its audience to believe that Trump’s hatred of Comey is somehow a part of a broader effort to crack down on all political dissent, which is ridiculous.      Since Ruhle didn’t get the answer she wanted out of Chemali, she turned to WIRED senior writer Jake Luhat, who connected Jimmy Kimmel’s short-lived suspension to the judges’ letter: RUHLE: Okay, well, freedom of speech has obviously become a flashpoint for the Trump administration, especially in the last few weeks. Do you think they think they're winning the public debate? LUHAT: Oof. I mean, I think the — the Kimmel thing was an instructive episode in just how much an attention magnet he is, and they thought that was an advantageous fight for them, and turned out it wasn't. I mean, to your point, I think the — in the letter, they're trying to say each sort of little extortion racket by act-by-act is a chilling effect in the whole. All these things matter, not just the big flashy ones. CNBC commentator Ron Insana chimed in, “Well, even in the Comey case the real question is not just about Jim Comey, but who's next, right? Is there going to be a cascading effect […] There are a whole host of people that some feel the President will attempt to, you know, seek retribution of.” The political enemies Trump has targeted are being charged for breaking the law. Those who have not committed crimes shouldn’t feel threatened. It’s  based on legitimate legal grounds. MSNBC Daily senior editor Anthony Fisher took the argument to its logical extreme: FISHER: In the Executive Order against Antifa, they — the language included stuff like anti-capitalism and anti-Christianity as akin to terrorism. So this is — there is a huge free speech assault right now that is — RUHLE: Okay, but even if you have the right to call the President a fascist, what we're dealing with right now is the government might come for you and make your life really hard. In the actual memoranda Fisher referred to, Trump directed those under his authority to investigate and prosecute organizations and individuals responsible for “political violence,” and claimed that anti-Christianity and anti-capitalism were “common threads” amongst those actors. So, no, Fisher, not being a part of the American political majority doesn’t suddenly make you a terrorist in the eyes of the government. It’s those who physically attack those politically-identifiable communities who are now designated terrorists. The transcript is below. Click "expand" read: MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle October 1, 2025 11:46:55 p.m. EST (...) STEPHANIE RUHLE: One group that you might not expect is sounding the alarm about your freedom of speech, and they are people who certainly know the — excuse me, the law. 42 retired judges at both the state and federal level, 10 of whom were appointed by Republicans, these judges say that the prosecution of Jim Comey jeopardizes your right to speak your mind without fear of gruff – government persecution. The nightcap is still here. Hagar, a lot of people might not care about the Jim Comey prosecution, but does this explain why they should? HAGAR CHEMALI: It is, I think — listen. When I read this article, to me, at first I really had to figure out, why? What was the connection being made on free speech? Because given if you look at the indictment and — again, I'm not trying to I'm not trying to make — pass legal judgment here on the on the indictment. I certainly don't know what – whether he lied or didn't or whatever. I did — when I was reading that, I was looking through, the thing that struck out at me was how much he and his deputy kept trying to place things in the news, and didn't try to place things in the news. And this is not, in my experience in government, that's not something the law enforcement guys really do. And they do it at Treasury, you do it at State. You certainly do it at the White House. It's not something I saw the FBI do very often. And I'm not saying he deserves this at all. I think this is, at the end of the day, this is political targeting. But I also, when I was reading it, I was like, “What are you doing?” And that's what I think the American people have to care about. Why are they trying to play in the press at all? Why — and that's to me, the freedom of speech piece, I didn't totally see the connection. RUHLE: Okay, well, freedom of speech has obviously become a flashpoint for the Trump administration, especially in the last few weeks. Do you think they think they're winning the public debate? JAKE LUHAT: Oof. CHEMALI: I see that, like for the late night shows, I really understand that argument. That will have a chilling effect. RON INSANA: Well, even in the Comey case the real question is not just about Jim Comey, but who's next, right? Is there going to be a cascading effect to an Andy McCabe, or somebody else that the President didn't like? Stripped him of his retirement funds, he had to sue him to get them back. Happen to know Andy personally. You know, but it's beyond that. There are a whole host of people that some feel the President will attempt to, you know, seek retribution of. ANTHONY FISHER: So, I published a piece at MSNBC Daily today that has the working headline of, “You have the right to call the president a fascist.” Because that's what's happening right now, is the administration is literally trying to chip away at the words you can use, even though the words that they have used themselves to describe their political opponents, they're trying to call them incitement. In the Executive Order against Antifa, they — the language included stuff like anti-capitalism and anti-Christianity as akin to terrorism. So this is — there is a huge free speech assault right now that is — RUHLE: Okay, but even if you have the right to call the President a fascist, what we're dealing with right now is the government might come for you and make your life really hard. FISHER: Sure. But that's that — again, we all have to stick together on this one and insist that it goes to court, insist that they point to the Constitution and make them say in court, “No, you don't have that right anymore.” Because till then we do. INSANA: Well, the one that blows my mind is the anti-Christian thing. And it's, what if you're an atheist, right? I mean — FISHER: Right. Well, I’m a lapsed Catholic turned atheist. You know — [Crosstalk] FISHER: — am I a terrorist? That's — the broad strokes are the point. To make it so broad that anyone can fall under the rubric of, “The bad guy.” And that’s, you know, I think that’s part of what the judges are talking about.

Circle smirk: Late-night luminaries join forces, still can't zing Trump

The walls are closing in!Late-night hacks Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, and Seth Meyers are doing what the legacy media couldn’t — stopping President Donald Trump dead in his tracks.'The Tonight Show' was late-night TV’s gold standard, in terms of both quality and ratings, for decades. Now, it’s an also-ran.Just kidding. The ultra-competitive hosts are taking turns interviewing each other and making group appearances to smite Orange Man Bad. And, boy, are they cracking us up in the process. Consider this golden exchange."I mean, that son of a b***h, you know?" said Kimmel about Trump."Mister son of a b***h," Colbert added."No, I never thought we would have a president like this, and I hope we don’t have another president like this again," Kimmel said.Mark Twain would have killed to pen comedy like that …Sleazy riderWho says they don’t make 'em like they used to?The upcoming “Pillion” stars Alexander Skarsgård as a gay “dom” who gets into a relationship with a meek lover played by Harry Melling. This British rom-com, based on Adam Mars-Jones’ 2020 book “Box Hill,” comes out (no pun intended) stateside in February. Variety describes the story as Skarsgård’s character taking his new lover on “as his submissive while introducing him to the community of kinky, queer bikers.”It’s the “Sons of Anarchy” reimagining no one wanted …Bad betThe good times had to end, right? This weekend, “Saturday Night Live” ends its annual hibernation with an all-new episode. The first host couldn’t be more perfect, and that’s hardly a compliment. It’s Bad Bunny, the anti-ICE warrior slated to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show early next year.Gee, who knows what he’ll bring up during his monologue?“SNL” once pushed the boundary on humor and good taste. Now, it’s a hard-left hack-a-thon with predictable gags and one-sided satire. If Kate McKinnon mourning Hillary Clinton’s 2016 electoral loss to Trump didn’t convince you the show had hit rock bottom, nothing will. Here’s betting Jimmy Kimmel will make a cameo, and every notable Democrat in power will be either ignored or feted. That’s not a Nostradamus-like prediction. It’s just a “recent past is prologue” reality. It’s a shame, too — since “South Park” went 100% anti-Trump and late-night TV abandoned humor for activism, it’s the perfect time for “SNL” to reclaim its bipartisan greatness. The Vegas odds scream otherwise …Not 'Tonight'Jimmy Fallon did the impossible. He took over “The Tonight Show” from Jay Leno in 2014 and slowly drove the franchise into a ratings ditch.Fallon’s “Tonight Show” consistently comes in third behind CBS’ “The Late Show” (which is reportedly losing the network $40 million a year) and ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Fallon could be considered a fourth-place finisher if one includes Fox News’ “Gutfeld,” which airs 90 minutes earlier.“The Tonight Show” was late-night TV’s gold standard, in terms of both quality and ratings, for decades. Now, it’s an also-ran. Why?For starters, Fallon is a wishy-washy version of ColbertKimmelMeyersOliverStewart. His show is left-leaning, but in a less mean-spirited fashion. That helped drive away right-leaning viewers and alienated today’s far-left types who see late-night as group therapy. The funny part? Fallon recently claimed his show “hits both sides equally.”Yeah, remember all the gags about President Joe Biden’s dementia-like condition and Kamala “Word Salad” Harris? We don’t either ...RELATED: Colbert gets canceled — by CBS, not conservatives Photo by Scott Kowalchyk/CBS via Getty ImagesPistol PeteThe least shocking story of the week? Dude-bro podcaster Joe Rogan ate up Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s military makeover. This didn’t involve a TLC host or influencer hottie. Hegseth put his foot down on woke military nonsense, the kind that caught fire under the previous administration. Rogan cheered on the news.“No more identity politics and bulls**t,” Rogan said. He was just warming up. “The most important thing is be ready. Be ready. Have the best, most capable military that’s humanly possible given the resources that we have today. This is what our goal is. This is what our job is,’ which makes sense.”Rogan hasn’t seen eye to eye with President Trump on every issue so far, particularly ICE's aggressive push to arrest illegal immigrants. The frenemies are back on the same side againBloody goodSick of waiting for Quentin Tarantino’s next, and allegedly last, film? There’s an antidote for that. The director’s dueling “Kill Bill” films from the early 2000s will be repackaged as one extended feature, hitting theaters Dec. 5. “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair” will include a previously unseen animated sequence as part of the presentation.Tarantino originally envisioned the films as a single movie, but the size of the project suggested that he release them as separate features. The only problem? Those gory fight scenes will still be as epic as the first time we saw them, but it could be an exhausting way to spend four-plus hours. And we can only imagine what the accompanying popcorn bucket will look like!
