Anti-Fascists in Cutesy Animal Costumes Are Warm and Cuddly, According to NYT, WaPo

The “fact-checkers” who pick apart President Donald Trump on a daily basis took exception to this recent presidential overstatement: “Portland [Oregon] is burning to the ground, it’s insurrectionists all over the place.” PolitiFact instructed that there’s a few arson convictions, but all the protests are “largely confined to a two-block area” outside the Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility. Those two blocks can be brutal. The Washington Post wrote a front-page story on Oct. 13 lamenting the “right-wing influencers” around the protests, and reality bubbled up: “But at night, the scene often turns violent, with leftist demonstrators exchanging blows with counterprotesters, at times shoving or spitting on federal law enforcement officers, lobbing fireworks, and attacking conservative influencers and journalists.” That’s right. Conservative journalists get assaulted. Nick Sortor was even arrested after being assaulted. Post reporters Robert Klemko and Joshua Partlow admitted the Portland police “have largely held back, stepping in sporadically to make targeted arrests, rather than clearing the block, to the frustration of federal authorities.” Aaron Schmautz, head of the local police union, was quoted: “When you have city officials encouraging people to break the law, the politics betray the outcome.” Contrast these facts with the propagandistic coverage of the Oct. 13 New York Times. On the front page came this saccharine blurb: “The Sass Menagerie: To contrast the president’s dark talk about Portland, Ore., protesters are wearing colorful animal suits.” Inside the paper, under colorful pictures of cutesy anti-fascists, the headline was “In Inflatable Animal Costumes, Protesters Are Keeping Portland Weird.” Online, the headline was also playful: “Among Portland Protests, It’s Frogs and Sharks and Bears, Oh My!” The first paragraph from Times reporters/publicists Anna Griffin and Aaron West: “Animal costumes are the new black.” For Antifa. Get it? Under video of protesters blowing bubbles, the Times gushed: “In Portland 2025, whimsy and merriment have replaced the masked anarchist look of 2020.” While Team Trump describes the protesters “as cruel, violent extremists bent on overthrowing the government,” they’re apparently losing the PR battle. “The scenes of colorful, oversize animals dancing to pop music under the stern gaze of federal agents in riot gear has altered the national conversation about the protests.” That was the only use in this story of the word “extremist.” As usual, the ideological labels are missing—no uses of “leftist,” “socialist,” “progressive,” or even “liberal.” The protesters weren’t anti-anything. The only “anti-” came in a mention of the liberal Anti-Defamation League. The only use of “Antifa” came in quotes, as in a White House “round table on ‘Antifa’ Wednesday.” There were no Republican sources or “right-wing influencers” or police union leaders quoted. The only sources promoted by Griffin and West were four leftists wearing inflatable costumes—or in one case, a “chicken onesie”—and a leftist journalism professor. Whitney Phillips is the author of the colorfully titled new book “The Shadow Gospel: How Anti-Liberal Demonology Possessed U.S. Religion, Media, and Politics.” One blurb gushes it’s “essential reading for understanding the systematic demonization of liberalism prevalent today.” Griffin made a Times video recently claiming the protests were “very peaceful.” It was headlined “How Portland Is Reacting to Trump’s National Guard Threat.” That’s what the “left-wing influencers” of our media are presenting. Their favorite protesters aren’t a “threat,” even as they attempt to block law-enforcement operations. Their side is wearing adorable, inflatable costumes. Newspapers like The Times love to preach about crumbling “democratic norms,” but when Trump is elected president, attempts to restore law and order during violent protests are the “threat.” Deportations are the “threat.” Everything sounds upside-down and backward when they write the “news.” COPYRIGHT 2025 CREATORS.COM We publish a variety of perspectives. NewsBusters Podcast: Joe Concha on Town Halls, Pelosi, and Jay Jones

CNN granted a platform on Wednesday night to socialists Bernie Sanders and AOC in a "Shutdown Town Hall." The host, Kaitlan Collins, interrupted them only nine times. But when Collins interviewed Trump in a town hall format in 2023, she interrupted 113 times. Fox News contributor Joe Concha joined our NewsBusters Podcast to discuss that terrible tilt and other topics, along with Dan Schneider, MRC's vice president for Free Speech America and External Affairs. As Jorge Bonilla reported, CNN’s much-hyped “Shutdown America” town hall sounded like an extended infomercial for socialism in America, with Kaitlan Collins acting mostly as a facilitator. AOC could say that the accounting firm Deloitte was poisoning waterways and say the air was "drinkable" and no one would feel compelled to "fact check in real time." Concha pointed out Collins used to be a conservative at the Daily Caller, now she's "like Oliver Darcy with longer hair." Darcy used to be an editor at The Blaze. He added AOC has never submitted for an interview with Fox News Channel -- unlike the socialist New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, who refused to give an answer when Martha McCallum asked him if Hamas should put down their arms and accept peace. He claimed he didn't have an opinion! (This also needs a fact check.)  From there, we explored how are the media doing on the off-year races in New Jersey and Virginia? Concha professed amazement at the national media ignoring the Democrat candidate for governor of New Jersey, Rep. Mikie Sherrill, for her financial windfall during her years in Congress and the story that she couldn't walk for her own graduation ceremony at the Naval Academy. After weeks ducking the murderous text messages sent by Virginia Democrat attorney general candidate Jay Jones, the "mainstream" media appear to have finally found a text scandal they like. The Young Republicans’ group-chat scandal as broken by Politico gave the legacy news a reason to throw it in for a few seconds. NBC Nightly News pounced on the GOP youth making racist statements and “I love Hitler” cracks, and then threw in the Jay Jones scandal as the rebuttal offered by Vice President J.D. Vance for about half a minute. Former congresswoman Abigail Spanberger, the Democrat nominee for governor, has faced no national pressure to disavow Jones.  Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi yelled at a reporter to "shut up" when she was asked why she refused repeated requests for the National Guard to help on January 6. Pelosi shamed her for throwing "Republican talking points" instead of being a serious journalist. This is often what we would say about liberal reporters, who feed Pelosi and others with softballs and Democrat talking points. Enjoy the podcast on video below, or the audio is here.

The Psychology of Collapse: 5 Traits That Help You Survive Anything

When the world starts breaking apart, tools and supplies matter, yet the mind matters even more. History proves this repeatedly. Pioneers crossing continents, pilots stranded behind enemy lines, and sailors adrift for months often survived because of inner strength as much as skill. Mental habits carried them through fear, isolation, and scarcity. Preppers spend countless […]

Legacy Prepping – What Will Your Kids Inherit Besides Supplies

We pass on values, traditions, stories, and heirloom tools, firearms, knives from one generation to the next. Aspects of preparedness run much deeper than supplies. Values Values are something every good parent teaches their children. In addition to my parents and grandparents, I benefited from mentors in the scouting program, my church, school, and later […]

Cuomo strikes at Mamdani while Sliwa goes on the attack in fiery NYC mayoral debate

The three major candidates for New York City's mayor's office debated each other on Thursday in a heated exchange that lasted two hours and covered many of the most important issues plaguing the Big Apple. Former Democrat New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, hammered away at Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdami as an extremist who is unprepared and inexperienced, while Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa came at both from the right and tried to claw away more time and attention. 'I try to avoid yellow cabs; as you know, I was shot in the back of a yellow cab in 1992 by the Gottis and Gambinos. But I find my way around. If I have to, I Uber.' President Donald Trump became a pivotal figure in the debate that differentiated the positions of the three candidates. When asked how they would deal with the president's threats to pull funding from the city, Sliwa said he would negotiate with Trump, while Cuomo said he would oppose Trump and Mamdani accused him of not fighting enough. Sliwa, who gained fame as the head of the Guardian Angels, ripped into both of his opponents for going easy on crime and had one anecdote that stunned debate-watchers. When the candidates were asked which form of transportation they chose apart from the subway, Mamdani said a bicycle, Cuomo responded that he called a taxi, and Sliwa said he was shot by the mafia. "I try to avoid yellow cabs; as you know, I was shot in the back of a yellow cab in 1992 by the Gottis and Gambinos," he said. "But I find my way around. If I have to, I Uber, if i can't get there by mass transit." Mamdani advocated for free bus fare on the basis that it would reduce attacks on bus drivers. Crime was a big issue in the debate, and Sliwa made it clear that he was endorsing pro-law-enforcement policies, in contrast to Cuomo and Mamdani. Cuomo accused Mamdani of endorsing police-defunding policies and calling cops "racist," while Mamdani distanced himself from his old statements and instead took a shot at Cuomo, claiming he sent "seniors to their death in nursing homes" as governor in 2020. Mamdani advocated for mental health workers to respond to mental illness calls rather than police, to which Sliwa objected vehemently. RELATED: Zohran Mamdani casually says he would support the abolition of property in resurfaced video Photo by Angelina Katsanis-Pool/Getty ImagesMamdani tried to position himself as a solution to the broken system in New York City politics. "I have the experience of having served in the New York State Assembly for five years and watching a broken political system," he said, "the experience of seeing a governor in Andrew Cuomo who would rather have served his billionaire donors than the working-class New Yorkers who voted for him."Cuomo accused Mamdani of wanting to legalize prostitution, which Mamdani denied, after which Sliwa accused both of trying to decriminalize prostitution. Sliwa was clearly frustrated that the moderators were far more interested in giving time to Mamdani and Cuomo, and he interrupted to get more time in the limelight. He also proposed the cessation of taxes for older Americans under a certain income level as a part of his "improve, not move" policy solutions. On immigration, Sliwa took a moderate position that claimed that America needs hard workers while also saying that illegal aliens need to be deported. Mamdani was predictably angry about federal immigration operations and said he would oppose them. When the question came to the economy, Cuomo hammered away at Mamdani's socialist policies and tried to make himself appear as friendly to capitalism as possible. Sliwa said that toothpaste shouldn't be locked up, but that criminals should be locked up.Ultimately, each candidate was disciplined enough to do what he needed to do — Cuomo attacked Mamdani's extremism, Mamdani tried to appear as reasonable as possible, and Sliwa tried to get as much attention as possible. RELATED: Rolling Stone is getting crushed online for trying to whitewash controversies around Zohran Mamdani Photo by Angelina Katsanis-Pool/Getty ImagesThe entire debate can be viewed on the YouTube channel of WNBC-TV. Former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani posted his endorsement after the debate on social media. "Curtis Sliwa is a New Yorker through and through. He knows this city — and its neighborhoods — better than almost anyone alive. If New Yorkers pay attention and wake up, they’ll elect this good man as their next mayor. He has my total and complete endorsement," he wrote. Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
