On Wednesday, the GOP-led House quickly defeated a bid by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) to remove Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) from his top perch. Within an hour of Greene declaring that she was going through with her motion to vacate the chair — an announcement met by a wave of boos in the chamber — members overwhelmingly voted to table the measure by a 359-43 tally. The measure was introduced in a privileged fashion, meaning leadership had two legislative days to act on it, similar to what Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) did last year to queue up a vote that led to Kevin McCarthy’s ouster as speaker. Unlike what happened with McCarthy, who lacked support from across the aisle when he was forced out of the role, Johnson had the backing of Democrats who said they would vote to table a motion to vacate the chair brought by Greene. He also got a boost from former President Donald Trump, now the likely GOP nominee in the 2024 election, who stood with Johnson at Mar-a-Lago in April and said the speaker was “doing a very good job.” When the vote finally did take place, 196 Republicans and 163 Democrats voted to table the motion from Greene. Eleven Republicans and 32 Democrats opposed it. Ten Republicans and 11 Democrats did not vote. That is certainly what it was,” Johnson told reporters after the vote. Greene had been talking about using the motion to vacate against Johnson ever since late March when the House passed a $1.2 trillion spending package. At least two other Republicans, Reps. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Paul Gosar (R-AZ), supported Greene last month as she refused to relent on her campaign against Johnson. Johnson and Greene met over the past couple days during which Greene made a series of what she said were “suggestions,” including defunding special counsel Jack Smith’s inquiries into Trump and no more financial aid for Ukraine. Recent polling from Monmouth University showed just one in five Americans wanted Johnson to be replaced as speaker. Trump posted to Truth Social on Wednesday, around the time of the vote on tabling Greene’s motion, complimenting Johnson, as well as Greene. He also called attention to the slim majority the GOP has in the House while pushing for unity.

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce, teed off on far-left activists with Code Pink on Wednesday who were harassing her while she was trying to use the elevator that only members of Congress are allowed on. Code Pink has been on Capitol Hill all week harassing members of Congress over their support for Israel and their stand against the pro-Hamas protesters who took over college campuses late last month and earlier this month. “Don’t even think about it, I’ve got things to do,” the 80-year-old congresswoman warned the activists as they approached her while she was waiting for the elevator. President Joe Biden threatened to cut Israel off this week from receiving U.S. military weapons if they enter Rafah to finish off Hamas’ last stronghold inside Gaza. Biden made the remarks during an interview Wednesday evening with CNN’s Erin Burnett after news broke earlier this week that he was halting a shipment of bombs and other equipment to Israel to send a political message to them. CNN asked Biden if the 2,000-pound bombs that the U.S. has sent to Israel have killed civilians inside Gaza. “Civilians have been killed in Gaza as the consequence of those bombs and other ways in which they go after population centers,” Biden said in an apparent attempt to smear America’s top ally in the region, which comes as he faces mounting pressure from the Islamic/anti-Semitic progressive-wing of the Democrat Party to take action against Israel. Israel does not target “population centers,” they take exhaustive steps to warn civilians that they need to leave specific areas before they conduct military operations. No where in Biden’s remarks did the president mention that Hamas intentionally hides behind civilians thus making it impossible for Israel to hold the Palestinian Islamic terrorist organization accountable for the unprecedented terrorist attack that it launched on October 7 without there being collateral damage. A far-Left activist at Princeton University cried on a bullhorn on Wednesday over a hunger strike that she and others decided to do in a desperate attempt to get the school to take actions that they want related to Israel and pro-Hamas protesters on campus. The students, who showed signs of cracking after only a few days of participating in the hunger strike, banged on drums and chanted: “The people united will never be defeated!” “This is absolutely unfair,” said a female activist who was wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh. “My peers and I, we are starving, we are physically exhausted. I’m quite literally shaking right now, as you can see.” “We are both cold and hot at the same time,” she cried. “We are all immunocompromised. And based off the university’s meeting yesterday with some of our bargaining team, they would love to continue physically weakening us because they can’t stand to say no to unjust murder.” She claimed that she “truly” does “not feel like I am doing anything special. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis went to an area where pro-Hamas protesters tried to set up an encampment at the University of Florida recently and declared victory over the far-Left extremists. DeSantis made the remarks in Gainesville where he noted that the encampment the pro-Hamas protesters tried to set up only lasted a few minutes, a far cry from encampments set up at major left-wing universities, some of which lasted well over a week. “In the state of Florida, you do not have a right to commandeer property,” he said. “You don’t have a right to go take over parts of the university. You don’t have a right to go after other students based on their ethnicity. And we’re gonna ensure that that’s upheld in the state of Florida.” “Now, if you look around the country, you have a lot of elite colleges and universities that have allowed themselves to become overrun with encampments, graffiti, as well as a lot of really nasty anti-Semitism at Columbia,” he continued. “Pro-Hamas activists stormed buildings, took cleaning staff hostage, and destroyed iconic academic halls. At UCLA, Jewish students were barred from entering buildings on campus by pro-Hamas activists. At Portland State, the library was taken over and subsequently trashed by vagrants who weren’t even students of the university to begin with.
