A Strange Radio Ring Could Be From A New Class Of Astronomical Object

A puzzling structure lying near the Galactic Center is probably a phenomenon we haven’t seen before, and while the finders have guessed its cause, they’re not confident they are right.

Tren de Aragua invasion figment of official's 'imagination,' Democrat Gov. Polis of Colorado claims, despite video evidence

Colorado Governor Jared Polis, a Democrat, claimed Wednesday that reports that a violent Venezuelan gang, Tren de Aragua, has invaded parts of the state are largely the figment of a city councilwoman's "imagination."Polis released the comments after KDVR, a local news outlet, shared a video of a group of men carrying firearms while storming through an apartment complex in Aurora, Blaze News reported. A separate video of the same residence taken at what seems to be an earlier time captured a man using a hammer to destroy the door's deadbolt lock.'Misinformation campaign threatens actual criminal investigations.'The news outlet reported that illegal immigrants have taken over the apartment complex, which has since become a hot spot for criminal activity, including violent shoot-outs.Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky recently told Fox News Digital that the Denver metropolitan area has been experiencing more gang-related crime. As a result of the increased presence of TDA, the Aurora Police Department formed a special task force. However, police have noted that TDA's influence is "isolated" at this time.Despite the video evidence and police reports of the gang's activity, Polis claimed that TDA's alleged takeover is largely "imagination."Shelby Wieman, a spokesperson for the governor, told the New York Post, "The governor has already let the mayor know that the state is ready to support the local police department with assistance from state troopers and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation if needed.""But according to police intelligence, this purported invasion is largely a feature of Danielle Jurinsky's imagination," Polis' spokesperson added.Wieman told the Post that it is "illegal to take over buildings in Colorado" and that if Jurinsky has "knowledge" of such activity, Polis' office is "ready to assist" local law enforcement agencies in reclaiming the properties.According to Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman (R), "there are several buildings" that have "fallen to these Venezuelan gangs."The Post asked Polis' office whether it would like to retract its previous statements given the overwhelming evidence of TDA's presence in Aurora, but Wieman replied that the governor "really hopes that the city council members in charge stop trashing their own city when they are supposed to keep it safe.""Over the last month, Governor Polis has been in regular contact with the city of Aurora and the Aurora Police Department and has offered all state assistance to support their efforts if requested," Wieman said.Jurinsky told Fox News Digital, "My question back to the governor is: Is this also a figment of the Romeros' imagination?" Cindy and Edward Romero, former residents of the Aurora apartment where the armed men were caught on surveillance footage storming through the complex, called living there "a nightmare." They reported that their vehicle was riddled with bullets from a shoot-out that took place this month before they moved out."There are people behind this that are solely playing politics," Jurinsky said. "That is so sad to me because they're real human beings, just like the Romeros suffering on the other side of those doors, living behind four deadbolt locks and a door brace and living in fear every day in these complexes.""It is very promising that across the board, people are really seeing what is happening," she continued. "Video footage is only undeniable for our governor in Colorado. Everybody else across the country is seeing this for themselves."Wieman told the news outlet, "We know violent crime in Aurora went down between 2022 and 2023, fully expect the data will show further declines for 2024, and the recent misinformation campaign threatens actual criminal investigations and could hurt the climate for small businesses in Aurora."Like Blaze News? CNN fact-checks Harris' claim she now supports fracking: She said otherwise in 2020

CNN fact-checks Harris' claim she now supports fracking: She said otherwise in 2020

CNN indicated Vice President Kamala Harris did not give an honest answer when she was asked about her flip-flop about the issue of fracking, something she said she had long been in favor of banning up until recently. In her first interview since officially being the Democrats' nominee for president, Harris said she is not in favor of fracking, and that is something she made clear during the 2020 debate with former Vice President Mike Pence. “No. And I made that clear on the debate stage in 2020 that I would not ban fracking. As vice president, I did not ban fracking. As president, I will not ban fracking," Harris told host Dana Bash."In 2019, I believe, at a town hall, you said — you were asked, ‘Would you commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking on your first day in office?’ And you said, ‘There’s no question I’m in favor of banning fracking. So, yes.’ So it changed in that campaign?” Bash followed up.Harris said while she has changed her stance on many policy issues since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, her 'values' have not changed."In 2020, I made very clear where I stand. We are in 2024, and I’ve not changed that position nor will I, going forward. I kept my word, and I will keep my word," Harris insisted.CNN fact-checker Daniel Dale explained in the 2020 debate Harris repeatedly referenced that Harris did not make clear whether she was in favor of banning fracking. Rather, she simply said Joe Biden did not support banning fracking.“Joe Biden will not end fracking. He has been very clear about that. ... I will repeat, and the American people know, that Joe Biden will not ban fracking," Harris said at the time."So, it makes perfect sense that at the time she was speaking on behalf of Biden. The president, not the vice president, sets administration policy. But maybe other people feel differently. I certainly did not hear anywhere in there Kamala Harris saying that she personally had abandoned her previously expressed 2019 view. Rather, again, she was speaking for Joe Biden," Dale said.In the interview with Bash released Thursday, an interview in which she was accompanied by running mate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Harris said while she has changed her stance on many policy issues since becoming the Democratic presidential nominee, her "values" have not changed.“Dana, I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed. You've mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed — and I've worked on it — that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time," Harris said.Like Blaze News? 'This is why taxes suck': The shocking reality of what star athletes pay in blue-state income taxes

Sports fan are taking notice of how much income tax athletes are paying and how it affects their decision of where to play. After NBA superstar Steph Curry signed a two-year extension worth over $110 million, a sports investment analyst broke down how much money Curry stands to lose under California tax rates."This is why taxes suck," analyst Andrew Petcash wrote.Petcash revealed that in 2023 alone, Curry lost $6.3 million due to California's 12.3% income tax rate. However, if income is over $1 million, both a 1% state mental health services tax and a 1.1% state payroll tax are also applied, according to the Tax Foundation.'Just another thing you've got to contend with in negotiations.'According to another graphic, Curry paid $4.1 million in California taxes in 2017-2018.This means the Golden State Warrior has already paid out $40.2 million in taxes over the course of his career.California's marginal tax figures mirror high rates in other blue states that are pushing athletes to play for teams in less tax-stringent markets.Eight-time Super Bowl-winning Coach Bill Belichick recently discussed these factors and how they play into athletes' decisions. Specifically, Belichick was discussing Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.Lamb recently signed a four-year, $136 million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, who of course play in Texas, where there is no state income tax.Belichick noted that in addition to Massachusetts' 9% state income tax rate, players also typically pay a "millionaire's tax" when they play for his New England Patriots.Beginning in 2023, the state issued a 4% surtax on taxable income over $1 million, bringing most football players' effective state tax rate to 13%."That's Taxachusetts," Belichick stated. "Just another thing you've got to contend with in negotiations up there. It's not like Tennessee or Florida or Nevada. Some of these teams have no state income tax. You get hit pretty hard on that with the agents."In other highly taxed blue states, it's mind-boggling to calculate how much money the government takes from top-tier athletes. In D.C., for example, where MLB superstar Bryce Harper played eight years for the Washington Nationals, at a marginal tax rate of 10.75%, Harper paid over $2.3 million in state taxes on his cumulative $21.725 million in salary. When he signed with the swing-state Philadelphia Phillies in 2019, his state tax rate dropped to 3.07%.Even though Harper has made a whopping $144.3 million in just six seasons with the Phillies, he has paid just $4.4 million in state taxes. That number would have been $15.5 million if he had stayed in D.C.A 10.9% state income tax in New York will result in Yankees slugger Aaron Judge paying a total of $39.2 million in state taxes alone by the time he finishes his contract, worth $360 million. These calculations should serve as evidence of why Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is choosing to accept just $2 million per season for his 10-year, $700 million contract. The Japanese ballplayer will become a free agent in 2034 at the age of 39, when he will more than likely move far away from the talons of California state taxes to collect his $68 million salary until 2043.Like Blaze News?
