Bryan Ferry releases new song “Star” featuring Amelia Barratt

The Roxy Music vocalist Bryan Ferry released a new song called "Star" featuring the singer Amelia Barratt. The track is part of Ferry's upcoming five-CD "Retrospective: Selected Recordings 1973 - 2023". The song began as a sketch made by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, later being developed by Bryan Ferry and Amelia Barratt. "Star is a collaboration with the painter and writer Amelia Barratt. A couple of years ago I helped her record an audiobook here in my studio. I was very impressed by her writing, and this is the first song we did together. I’m very excited about this new work - there’s a lot more to come," Bryan Ferry said. Bob Daisley recalls how he wrote “Mr. Crowley” and “I Don’t Know”

Ozzy Osbourne was always known for his vocals, being a great frontman and for coming up with melodies. However, he was never a really good lyricist, since in Black Sabbath it was the bassist Geezer Butler who wrote most of the lyrics and during his solo career, one of the most successful lyricists of his band was the bassist Bob Daisley. In an interview with Johnny Beane TV (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), Daisley recalled how he had the idea to write songs like "Mr. Crowley" and "I Don't Know". Bob Daisley recalls how he wrote "Mr. Crowley" and "I Don't Know" "Ozzy would come up with a title like 'Mr. Crowley'. I thought, 'Well, it's obviously got to be about Aleister Crowley, but I don't want to be pro-Satanist. So, I wrote it in a way of, 'Crowley, what the f**k were you thinking like that?'" "'I Don't Know' was from actual situations Ozzy had told me about. Because he was in a band called Black Sabbath, people, or fans, used to come up to them, thinking that they had the answers to things. I remember one story Ozzy told me [about how] they heard a kerfuffle in the hotel corridor. They went out of their rooms, and down [at] end were all these fans in robes and with black candles, and they were having some sort of mass." "And they all went down there, blew their candles out and sang 'Happy Birthday' to them. But that was the sort of stuff that Ozzy was attracting from being in Black Sabbath, you know? So, 'I Don't Know' was just my way of saying, 'Don't ask me, I don't know what's the future of mankind.'" Daisley was part of Ozzy’s band from 1979 to 1981, 1983 to 1985, 1988 (As a session musician), 1990 to 1991 (As a session musician) and from 1995 to 1995. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0RE230PlX4&pp=ygUKbXIgY3Jvd2xleQ%3D%3DThe post Bob Daisley recalls how he wrote “Mr. Crowley” and “I Don’t Know” appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Eric Martin says Mr. Big will never tour again but might reunite

Formed by singer Eric Martin, bassist Billy Sheehan and guitarist Paul Gilbert, Mr. Big played last August 23 in Bistrița, Romania, the final show of their farewell tour. According to the vocalist it was the band's retirement from touring and they will never tour again like, for example, Mötley Crüe and Kiss. That's what he said in an interview with Roppongi Rocks (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). Eric Martin says Mr. Big will never tour again but might reunite "This is the final tour, but it's slightly bittersweet because it's the end, and every night is like savoring the moment of, like, 'Good night. Thank you.' … And then I'm waving goodbye thinking that, 'Oh, I'll see you next time.' But I will see you next time, probably playing some karaoke bar, bar mitzvah or some sort of acoustic thing, 'cause I do acoustic shows every year, but I won't be playing with like the best players in the world — for me, anyway." "So it is bittersweet. And I think somewhere down the line — this was about a week ago — I started thinking I think we might be shooting ourselves in the foot here because we're so tight and we are on fire. And I don't know if it's a novelty that this is 'The BIG Finish' and it's over and the crowds are coming, but sold-out shows pretty much every night and the festivals are great." "We're not the kind of band (That do a farewell tour and then reunite) — when we say that we're gonna quit and it's over and we're not touring anymore… We may do a one-off here and there every couple of years or whatever, but we're not going to be like the Mötley Crüe and the Kisses. And no offense to them, because the crowds keep coming to see 'em, but we're not gonna do it. We just maybe have too much pride in it," Eric Martin said. https://youtu.be/xpocTZHYagAThe post Eric Martin says Mr. Big will never tour again but might reunite appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The Beatles album that Kurt Cobain said is one of his favorites

The Nirvana co-founder, guitarist, singer and main songwriter Kurt Cobain was like a shooting star. From the late 80s until the early 90s he became one of the most promising and successful rock stars in the world but he tragically decided to take his own life at the age of 27 in 1994. His band transformed the whole Rock and Roll scene at the time with the release of their groundbreaking album "Nevermind" in 1991, changing the course of the music genre forever. Although he was a big fan of independent bands and alternative rock groups, he also liked bands like The Beatles. The Beatles album that Kurt Cobain said is one of his favorites Kurt Cobain‘s journals were published back in 2002 and showed the world a little bit more about his taste in music. He had made a list called “Top 50 by Nirvana” and one of the albums listed was "Meet The Beatles!" (1964), the second album of the Fab Four to be released in the United States. It has famous tracks like "I Want to Hold Your Hand", "I Saw Her Standing There", "All My Loving" and "I Wanna Be Your Man". In the USA the album debuted at number 92 on the album chart for the week and two weeks later it peaked at number 1 where it remained for the next 11 weeks, being only replaced by another Beatles album: "The Beatles' Second Album". John Lennon was his favorite Beatle One year before his tragic death, Kurt Cobain gave an interview to Rolling Stone magazine and talked about a lot of things, including The Beatles. He revealed that John Lennon was actually his favorite Beatles member. He said that he could relate to how Lennon felt sometimes about being a celebrity. “John Lennon was definitely my favorite Beatle, hands down. I don’t know who wrote what parts of what Beatles songs, but Paul McCartney embarrasses me. Lennon was obviously disturbed [laughs]. So I could relate to that.” “And from the books I’ve read — and I’m so skeptical of anything I read, especially in rock books. So I just felt really sorry for him. To be locked up in that apartment. Although he was totally in love with Yoko and his child, his life was a prison. He was imprisoned. It’s not fair. That’s the crux of the problem that I’ve had with becoming a celebrity — the way people deal with celebrities. It needs to be changed; it really does.” “No matter how hard you try, it only comes out like you’re bitching about it. I can understand how a person can feel that way and almost become obsessed with it. But it’s so hard to convince people to mellow out. Just take it easy, have a little bit of respect. We all shit (laughs)," Kurt Cobain said. He wanted to be as John Lennon but less famous like Ringo Starr https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=5SVnzZeXyHM Kurt Cobian said in an interview back in the 90s (Transcribed by Rock and Roll Garage) that he first decided that he wanted to be a Rock star after he had his first Beatles album. He recalled that he would like to be adored like John Lennon but also have the anonymity of Ringo Starr. "At a really early age I wanted to become a Rock and Roll star. I wanted to play drums since I got my first Beatles record. I wanted to have the adoration of John Lennon but have the anonymity of Ringo Starr. You know, I didn't want to be the frontman. I wanted to be back there but be a Rock and Roll star at the same time. Not to compare us with The Beatles, but the Beatles and Rolling Stones, bands like that, you know 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' to "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', that was a massive progression and I just want to experiment. The post The Beatles album that Kurt Cobain said is one of his favorites appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
