Detroit Crowd Goes Nuts When Jelly Roll Brings Out Eminem For Surprise Performance Of “Lose Yourself”
Slim Shady live in Detroit.
Last night, Post Malone’s 2025 Stadium Tour rolled through Detroit, Michigan, along with his openers Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell. There have already been tons of surprise guests on this trek, but I have to imagine nothing would top Eminem showing up in his hometown to perform his hit “Lose Yourself,” which is exactly what happened.
They filled out Ford Field, home of the Detroit Lions, and rapper Eminem (whose real name is Marshall Mathers) showed up during Jelly Roll’s set for a duet of the aforementioned song “Lose Yourself,” which had the entire stadium of over 40,000 people cheering on their hometown hero as if it was football Sunday.
“Lose Yourself” was first used as part of the soundtrack to for the 2002 movie 8 Mile, that Eminem also starred in, and he wrote by himself and composed with his longtime collaborator Jeff Bass, one half of the production duo Bass Brothers, and Luis Resto. The song was released in October of 2002 as the lead single from the soundtrack, and became a massive commercial success.
It was his first Billboard Hot 100 #1 single, and stayed at the top for twelve consecutive weeks. It also reached the top of the charts in nineteen other countries, and has remained his signature song to this day. “Lose Yourself” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song (the first hip hop song to receive the award), and also won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Solo Performance.
Jelly Roll also comes from a rap background, so it was very fitting for him to bring out the hometown boy, and I have a feeling that was probably the highlight of the night for most fans, even though Post Malone is a great performer and puts on an incredible live show. You just can’t beat this, especially in Detroit… this song still goes so hard over 20 years after its release:

Another angle:
@shadyverse Eminem surprised fans and concertgoers at Post Malone’s “Big Ass Stadium Tour” stop in Detroit on Sunday night with a surprise appearance. During his opening set at Ford Field, Jelly Roll brought out the hometown legend, sending the sold-out crowd of over 40,000 into a frenzy. Eminem jumped in on the second verse of “Lose Yourself,” joining Jelly for a powerful performance of the iconic track. #eminem #shadyverse #loseyourself #postmalone #jellyroll #surprise #rap #hiphop #cover #viral #icon #8mile ♬ original sound – SHADYVERSE
