Sen. Tom Cotton (AR-R) will speak at the Republican National Convention on Tuesday night, where the party will highlight its pledge to “Make America Safe Once Again,” his team tells The Daily Wire. “Senator Cotton will be making the case that President Trump is uniquely positioned to restore our borders, our strength, and prosperity while reversing the damage from Joe Biden’s failed presidency,” a spokesperson for Cotton said. Cotton has been mentioned as a possible running mate for former President Donald Trump. Though that no longer seems like a possibility, the Arkansas military veteran has emerged as one of Trump’s closest allies in the U.S. Senate. Following Trump’s debate with President Joe Biden last week, Cotton weighed in speculating that the race is really between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris as the president’s mental capabilities are in question. “After only 13 minutes, this debate has made clear: a vote for Biden is a vote to make Kamala Harris president,” Cotton tweeted. “It’s deeply alarming that Joe Biden needs to be secluded for seven days so he can speak coherently for 90 minutes. Remember, this performance is Biden at his absolute best after seven days of secluded rest and prep.” Cotton has been a defender of Trump’s foreign policy in recent months including in an interview last month on CNN with Jake Tapper where he discussed the former president’s approach to the war in Ukraine. “I think it’s important to look at the context of what’s happened in Ukraine over the last 10 years,” Cotton said. “I have noticed that Vladimir Putin only invades Ukraine when Democrats are president. It happened under Barack Obama. It happened under Joe Biden. It didn’t happen with Donald Trump.” “In fact, the weapons that Ukraine used in the early days of this war to fend off the Russian invasion are the weapons that Donald Trump sent, that Barack Obama and Joe Biden had refused to send,” he continued. “One reason why Joe Biden — or why Vladimir Putin thought he could get away with going for the jugular in Ukraine is because of the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan, which projected weakness and indecision. It was just a few weeks later that he began to mass troops on Ukraine’s border.” The Republican Party released its 2024 platform ahead of the convention earlier this week with points that are in line with typical Trump talking points. They include securing the border, deporting illegal immigrants, combating inflation, tax cuts, keeping men out of women’s sports, and fifteen other commitments. “Our future, our identity, and our very way of life are under threat like never before,” the platform’s preamble, titled  “America First: A Return to Common Sense” reads. “Today we must once again call upon the same American Spirit that led us to prevail through every challenge of the past if we are going to lead our Nation to a brighter future,”  “Like the Heroes who built and defended this Nation before us, we will never give up,” the document continues. “We will restore our Nation of, by, and for the People. We will Make America Great Again. We will be a Nation based on Truth, Justice, and Common Sense.”

Major Democratic donors have informed Future Forward, which has been a pro-Biden political action committee, that they will freeze $90 million in donations if the president remains in the presidential race, according to The New York Times. The Times, citing “two people who have been briefed on the conversations,” reported that the frozen contributions include eight-figure donations from multiple people. According to the Times, one donor said Future Forward approached him multiple times about a contribution following Biden’s disastrous debate, but the donor said he and others are “holding off.” A Future Forward adviser reportedly said the Super PAC expected donors who had paused contributions to unfreeze them once the Democrats resolved the uncertainty surrounding Biden’s nomination. The potential blow to Biden’s campaign comes just hours after Biden sought to assuage fears surrounding his mental and physical capabilities by holding a rare solo press conference on Thursday. While most analysts agreed that Biden performed better during his hourlong press conference, which took place after he gave remarks at a NATO summit, than he did during his debate against former President Donald Trump, the presser appeared to do little to assure Democrats about his re-election chances. During the summit and the press conference, Biden committed multiple verbal blunders, including calling Trump his vice president and referring to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin.” Biden, however, reiterated that he is committed to staying in the race, even as a growing number of Congressional Democrats have publicly called for him to step aside. Along with lawmakers and, reportedly, some major donors, a handful of celebrities have also publicly called on the president to end his campaign and allow for another candidate to take his place atop the ticket. Actor George Clooney, who hosted a massive Hollywood fundraiser for Biden last month, wrote an op-ed in The New York Times earlier this week, saying, “[T]he Joe Biden I was with three weeks ago at the fund-raiser was not the Joe ‘big F-ing deal‘ Biden of 2010. He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020. He was the same man we all witnessed at the debate.” Leftist author Stephen King and filmmaker Michael Moore have also called on Biden to step aside. Democrats have reportedly held private meetings on Capitol Hill throughout the past week to discuss how the party will move forward with the questions swirling on Biden’s mental ability. Former President Barack Obama and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), who are still viewed as major voices within the Democratic Party, reportedly talked privately and expressed concerns about Biden’s candidacy. The Democratic Party Convention, where Biden is set to officially be nominated as the party’s presidential nominee, will be held in Chicago on August 19-22.

When given the chance to honor the memory of a late friend, Vince Gill is sure to take it — and he recently did just that at the Grand Ole Opry. His unforgettable performances took place on Wednesday, July 10. On this night, a few others took to the stage. That being said, it was Gill’s heartfelt performances that made the night extra special. That’s because he chose to dedicate his time on stage to his late friend, Joe Bonsall. As many know, Bonsall was an iconic member of the Oak Ridge Boys, taking on the role of tenor. At some point in Gill and Bonsall’s busy careers, the two of them crossed paths. This led to a years-long friendship, and it’s clearly one that Gill treasures to this day. Sadly, Bonsall passed away on July 9 at 76 years old from complications of the neuromuscular disorder Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.
