House Republicans Launch New January 6 Panel

House Republicans are starting up a new panel to investigate events leading up to and after January 6, 2021, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) revealed on Wednesday. A new select subcommittee is being established under the House Judiciary Committee and will be chaired by Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), who led the counter-probe into the U.S. Capitol breach and the Democrat-led January 6 Committee, leading to a report that demanded further inquiry into its leaders — Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WI) — for suspected wrongdoing related to data retention and witnesses. “House Republicans are proud of our work so far in exposing the false narratives peddled by the politically motivated January 6 Select Committee during the 117th Congress, but there is still more work to be done,” Johnson said in a statement. “We are establishing this Select Subcommittee to continue our efforts to uncover the full truth that is owed to the American people. The composition and other details regarding the Select Subcommittee will be announced soon.” The announcement comes after President Donald Trump issued a sweeping executive order on Monday, hours into his second term, granting pardons to about 1,500 criminal defendants related to the January 6 Capitol riot. That move followed former President Joe Biden issuing preemptive pardons to members of the January 6 Committee right before he left office, including Thompson and Cheney, and others. Trump himself faced a criminal prosecutions tied to the 2020 election and January 6, but they faltered after the 2024 presidential contest. “I am honored to be tasked with continuing the investigation into the events surrounding January 6, 2021, and the failures that led to the breach of the United States Capitol,” Loudermilk said in a statement. “What happened at the Capitol that day was the result of a series of intelligence, security, and leadership failures at multiple levels within numerous entities. I appreciate Speaker Johnson’s commitment to our work, and I am looking forward to working with Chairman Jim Jordan to continue to uncover all the facts and begin the arduous task of making needed reforms to ensure this level of security failure may never happen again.” CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT In a statement of his own, Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) said “Loudermilk has been the leader in getting to the bottom of what the Democrat-led January 6 Committee failed to uncover, and we look forward to helping him bring all the facts to the American people.” After receiving their pardons, Thompson and Cheney released a joint statement thanking Biden and lamenting how they were being subject to continued scrutiny. “We express our gratitude to President Biden for recognizing that we and our families have been continuously targeted not only with harassment, lies, and threats of criminal violence but also with specific threats of criminal prosecution and imprisonment by members of the incoming administration, simply for doing our jobs and upholding our oath of office,” the pair said, adding, “We have been pardoned today not for breaking the law but for upholding it.”

Philly Mayor Leads Discombobulated Eagles Chant, Provokes Hilarity

At a Sunday press conference before the Philadelphia Eagles defeated the Los Angeles Rams 28-22 in an NFL divisional playoff game, Philadelphia Democrat Mayor Cherelle Parker gave her own discombobulated version of the E-A G-L-E S chant, with her spelling provoking utter hilarity. “Listen we gotta do this,” Parker declared to the crowd. “Let me hear you all say,” she instructed before chanting, “E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles! Let’s go, birds!” Philadelphia's mayor Cherelle Parker led an Eagles chant today, but misspelled Eagles ? Philadelphia has not had a Republican mayor for 73 years, since 1952. CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT As Phillymag reported last June, between the 1950s and 2000 Philadelphia had a “five-decade-long population slide” that totaled roughly 600,000 people, then gained roughly 86,000 people in the years between 2000 and 2020. But since 2020 the city has lost more than 53,000 residents. As Kevin Roberts of the Heritage Foundation has noted: From 2013 to 2017, Philadelphia averaged 271 homicides per year. But then something happened. From 2018 through 2023, there was an average of 457 per year. Black people represented 83 percent of those victims. The same drastic jump in crime applied to shooting incidents, which increased from a five-year average of 1,047 per year to 1,588 per year. And aggravated assault while armed with a handgun, went from a five-year average of 2,209 per year to 3,116 per year. And retail thefts, which went from a five-year average of 7,412 per year to 9,084 per year. And auto theft skyrocketed from a five-year average of 5,691 to 8,665 per year. “In 2023, Philadelphia had a total of 1,315 overdose deaths according to data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health. In addition, 79% of the 2023 overdose deaths in Philadelphia included fentanyl,” the United States Drug Enforcement Administration reported. Pro-Life Community Anxiously Awaits Trump Pardons For Imprisoned Activists

Members of the pro-life community are anxiously awaiting word that President Donald Trump will pardon the activists imprisoned by the Biden Justice Department for trying to prevent abortions. Trump issued a sweeping executive order on Monday that granted full pardons for about 1,500 criminal defendants related to the January 6 Capitol Riot, making good on many campaign promises to free those targeted by the Biden DOJ.  He has also repeatedly criticized the Biden Justice Department for targeting pro-lifers on “outrageous charges,” promising on the campaign trail to “rapidly review the cases of every political prisoner who’s unjustly victimized by the Biden regime…so we can get them out of the gulags and back to their families where they belong.” The Thomas More Society, which represented many of the defendants during their federal trials, formally petitioned for the pardons last week, and urged Trump on Wednesday to issue the pardons. Wednesday is the 52nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade, which the Supreme Court struck down in 2022 largely thanks to votes from Trump appointees. Both Thomas More Society Executive Vice President Peter Breen and lawyer Steve Crampton told The Daily Wire that this Roe anniversary would be a great day for Trump to issue the pardons.  “Today would be an incredible day for him to do that,” Breen told The Daily Wire on Wednesday morning, discussing possible pardons.  The law firm posted on X, formerly Twitter, calling on Trump to keep his promise, writing: “During your victorious campaign, you pledged to restore justice to the pro-life political targets of Biden’s DOJ. On today’s anniversary of Roe v. Wade, please keep your promise to these peaceful pro-lifers.” Paul Vaughn, one of the pro-lifers targeted by the Biden Justice Department, seconded this sentiment in his own social media posts. “Amen. Today is as good a day as any,” he wrote to Trump. “The Pro-lifers could eat dinner with their families tonight instead of yet another prison meal.” Amen. Today is as good a day as any. @POTUS@realDonaldTrump The Pro-lifers could eat dinner with their families tonight instead of yet another prison meal.@realDailyWire @DailySignal @TCNetwork @TuckerCarlson @LilaGraceRose @GRTL@ClevelandRTL @MiaCathell https://t.co/wycOjl7ZO8 — Paul TN (@vaughnshire) January 22, 2025 On Tuesday, Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) said he hoped that Trump would free the prisoners, whose sentences range from six to 57 months.   “I hope President Trump will shortly pardon the pro-life prisoners unjustly targeted & jailed by the Biden Administration. They deserve to be free,” Hawley posted on X.  I hope President Trump will shorty pardon the pro-life prisoners unjustly targeted & jailed by the Biden Administration. They deserve to be free — Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) January 22, 2025 The Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) also called on Trump to pardon Lauren Handy, its director of activism, who is currently serving a 57-month sentence over a protest at a notorious late-term abortion facility in Washington, D.C. She won’t be free until July 2027.  Prolife activist Lauren Handy has been in prison for 17 months. Months ago she sustained an ankle injury and still hasn’t healed. Some days she can’t walk from the pain. She must be pardoned to return home and heal. Her 57 month sentence is too long. — PAAU (@PAAUNOW) January 21, 2025 “Prolife activist Lauren Handy has been in prison for 17 months. Months ago she sustained an ankle injury and still hasn’t healed,” the organization said. “Some days she can’t walk from the pain. She must be pardoned to return home and heal. Her 57 month sentence is too long.”  In addition to Handy, the group urged for all 20 other defendants successfully prosecuted under Biden to be pardoned and freed.  The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh repeatedly pushed for the pro-lifers to be pardoned, saying on Wednesday: “They are political prisoners who should not spend one more moment in jail under a Trump Administration. I pray that their pardons are coming immediately.” They are political prisoners who should not spend one more moment in jail under a Trump Administration. I pray that their pardons are coming immediately. https://t.co/tVA2Ni7JPk — Matt Walsh (@MattWalshBlog) January 22, 2025 On Tuesday, Republican Rep. Chip Roy (TX) introduced a measure alongside 20 House Republicans to repeal the FACE Act, pointing out its disproportionate use against pro-life activists, The Daily Wire reported.  “Now that we have a Republican trifecta in the House, Senate, and White House, Congress should move quickly to repeal this law and ensure that no future president can weaponize it against pro-lifers ever again,” Roy said. “No more excuses, let’s get it done.”

Scott Jennings Delivers TKO On Deportation Hypothetical: ‘Great! Finally!’

CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings did not hesitate for a second when presented with a hypothetical scenario in which an illegal alien was arrested at a school. The topic came up during a panel discussion on “CNN NewsNight” with host Abby Phillip, with that specific hypothetical being presented by author Jose Antonio Vargas. “I think the question is, what are you going to do when people are getting arrested while you are dropping off your kid to school?” Vargas asked. WATCH: More fun immigration debates last night on @cnn. We are either going to enforce the law or we aren’t, and the people are behind Trump on this. pic.twitter.com/pslkzyv8tB — Scott Jennings (@ScottJenningsKY) January 22, 2025 Jennings’ answer was immediate: “I think if I were dropping my kid off at school, and they showed up and arrested someone who, I don’t know, had committed a violent crime or had an existing adjudicated deportation order, I would, A: wonder why they were at the school? And B: say, great! finally, somebody is enforcing the law in the United States of America. I would have no problem with this, truthfully.” Vargas attempted to redirect the conversation, claiming, “And the reality is undocumented people are way less likely to commit crime than native-born citizens …” “But there are still criminals here,” Jennings pushed back. “They need to be deported.” CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT “There are some,” Vargas conceded. “So if they were at a school, you would agree it would be okay to come and get them,” Jennings prompted him. “It’s not just those people who are going to be deported,” Ana Navarro said then, jumping to Vargas’ defense. “Do we have a crisis here or not?” Jennings asked. “Ten million people have come here in the last four years. We’ve had no interest on the part of the last administration to do anything other than create this massive problem.” “It’s a crisis. People voted for Trump to solve the crisis,” Jennings added, noting that Trump had campaigned not only on changing policy at the border to prevent more illegal aliens from crossing into the United States, but also on enforcing the law — which means following through on his promise to deport those who should not be in the country.

Chris Brown Sues Warner Bros. For $500M, Saying Doc Made Him Look Like Abuser

Recording artist Chris Brown is suing Warner Bros. for $500 million, accusing them of unfairly painting him as an “abuser” with the airing of the docuseries “Chris Brown: A History of Violence.” The project in question aired on Investigation Discovery in October. Brown, 35, filed the lawsuit for the alleged offenses of defamation-libel and infliction of emotional distress through the content of the program, per People. “A History of Violence” included interviews with multiple women who claimed to have been abused by Brown. One woman identified as Jane Doe claims to have been raped by the recording artist in 2000. “This case is about the media putting their own profits over the truth,” the lawsuit says. The document also asserts that Warner Bros. allowed the project to go forward, “knowing that it was full of lies and deception and violating journalistic principles.” The filing mentions Doe specifically, saying her claims were already “discredited.” The document says she is “perpetrator of intimate partner violence and aggressor herself.” Brown claims Doe originally accused him of assaulting her on Sean “Diddy” Combs’ yacht in 2022, but those charges were dismissed after a Miami Beach Police officer discovered text messages sent by Doe “that exposed her dishonesty,” the filing states. CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT The lawsuit mentions that despite Brown never being convicted of sex crimes, he’s painted as a “serial rapist” and “sexual abuser.” The docuseries also reported that Brown smashed a window at Good Morning America in 2011, allegedly threw a brick through his mother’s windscreen in 2013, and punched a female fan in 2016. He was also accused of verbal and physical abuse and making death threats by his ex-girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, per The Guardian. Brown was sued by his ex-manager for assault in 2016 and settled out of court. In July 2024, four concert attendees claimed Brown and his entourage “attacked and brutally beat” them after the show. That case is still pending. The lawsuit also mentions the harm caused by the docuseries after Brown spent years trying to rehabilitate his image. In 2009, the rapper was charged with assault and making criminal threats by his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, following an altercation they had before the Grammy Awards. Brown pleaded guilty in June of that year and accepted a plea deal of community labor, five years probation, and domestic violence counseling, the outlet noted. “Mr. Brown has grown from those experiences, and his evolution speaks for itself,” the lawsuit states. “This new production ignores that growth, choosing instead to repackage stale accusations while amplifying them with demonstrable falsehoods.”
