Trashing Trump Tariffs, CNN Cites Canada As Military Ally: Guess Who Was Our Biggest?
Trashing President Trump's imposition of a 25 percent tariff on imports from Canada (among other countries), Monday's edition of CNN This Morning cited Canada's role as a US military ally and played a clip of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau doing the same.
"The promised trade war, it's here, She announced near the top of the show, as if it was the most desired outcome. "President Donald Trump over the weekend, making good on campaign promises that have made the business community nervous, and that threaten to raise prices for Americans."
Huffing: And he's targeting our neighbors, including Canada, whose troops have fought alongside Americans in our foreign wars."
She followed up with a soundbite of the widely unpopular Canadian PM: "From the beaches of Normandy, to the mountains of the Korean Peninsula, from the fields of Flanders to the streets of Kandahar, we have fought, and died, alongside you. During your darkest hours, during the Iranian hostage crisis, those 444 days we worked around the clock from our embassy to get your innocent compatriots home."
To defeat the Nazis on the eastern front during WWII, American's allies in the Soviets sacrificed an estimated 27 million citizens, including 8.7 million soldiers. If CNN's theory was that the U.S. was prohibited from taking any action against a country that has served as an ally, does the network condemn the Cold War against the Soviet Union or the imposition of economic sanctions on Russia?
While condemning Trump for imposing tariffs on Canada, given its history as a military ally, Hunt notably didn't do the same regarding Mexico, which fought a war against the United States.
Did "The Halls of Montezuma" perhaps ring a bell with Kasie? Mexico was neutral at the beginning of WWII and remained so even after Pearl Harbor, until nominally supporting the Allies after the Germans sank two Mexican oil tankers in 1942.
As if there hadn't been developments since, CNN This Morning also unearthed a clip of Reagan criticizing trade wars by demagogues. It's funny how the liberal media will employ Reagan—the man it has historically hated—when it suits their purposes. Should we look for CNN anytime soon to approvingly quote Reagan in this way?

"The nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the Government, and I'm here to help. "
After the Reagan clip played, you'll note host Hunt making one of her classic facial expressions.

KASIE HUNT: The promised trade war, it's here. President Donald Trump over the weekend, making good on campaign promises that have made the business community nervous, and that threaten to raise prices for Americans.
And he's targeting our neighbors, including Canada, whose troops have fought alongside Americans in our foreign wars.
Plus, this might not be the last of it. The new tariffs include a 25 percent markup on goods from Canada and Mexico. China will see a 10 percent tariff. These changes set to take effect tomorrow. Canada isn't taking it lying down. Stores immediately started pulling American goods off the shelves. Tennessee whiskey, bourbon from Kentucky.
And this was the scene at the start of an NHL game between the Ottawa Senators and the Minnesota Wild. Yes, those are Canadian fans in Ottawa, loudly booing the Star Spangled Banner. It happened at an NBA matchup in Toronto, too.
The Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, had this reminder of why booing the anthem is so stunning from our neighbors to the north.
