CBS Anchor, Former Biden Official, Suggest Trump Statement Might Inspire Violence

A CBS News anchor and a former counterterrorism official in the Biden administration condemned former President Donald Trump and Republicans in the wake of the shooting that left Trump wounded Saturday night. CBS anchor Margaret Brennan condemned Trump for insufficiently “lowering the temperature” in his statement following the shooting. “This was a traumatic event no doubt for him, but I did notice there was no call for lowering the temperature, condemning all political violence, and really trying to signal to his supporters as well not to retaliate or to have any kind of escalation here,” Brennan said while reporting on Trump’s statement. Trump's just been shot, and CBS anchor Margaret Brennan disparages him for not telling his followers to lower the temperature. Unbelievable. pic.twitter.com/97R2FG97gG— Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) July 14, 2024 After suffering a wound to the ear as a result of a gunshot, Trump thanked Secret Service, expressed condolences to the family of the rallygoer who died in the shooting, and mentioned that the shooter had been killed. He concluded his remarks with “GOD BLESS AMERICA!” ?BREAKING: Trump reveals the nature of his injury, confirms that he was shot, and extends condolences to the family of the rallygoer who was killed. pic.twitter.com/yQ6me9iADY— Tyler O'Neil (@Tyler2ONeil) July 14, 2024 After faulting Trump for failing to condemn all political violence, Brennan spoke with Samantha Vinograd, a commentator who served as assistant secretary for counterterrorism, threat prevention, and law enforcement policy at the Department of Homeland Security from July 2021 to August 2022. “The biggest threat that officials are telling me tonight is in the form of retaliatory violence,” Vinograd said. Brennan condemned “some Republican lawmakers” whom she said were “directly drawing the line between the shooter” and “some connection to the government.” Vinograd called it “frankly unpatriotic” for anyone to be “stoking the flames when we know that we are sitting on a cauldron of tensions.” “The counterterrorism officials and homeland security officials that I’ve spoken to in the last few hours are deeply concerned that this event will be used as a rallying cry to launch attacks against individuals associated with the Biden campaign and lead to broader domestic distress,” she said. “It is unpatriotic in the sense in that we know that this kind of rhetoric has a nexus to violence,” Vinograd added. “We saw that on Jan. 6, we saw that in the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband, and in multiple other instances.” On CBS, Margaret Brennan and Samantha Vinograd talk up "retaliatory violence" from right-wingers, and then we hear of January 6. Knew this line was coming…. pic.twitter.com/JO9572UlXn— Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) July 14, 2024 Biden unequivocally condemned the shooting. “There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it,” the president said. Vinograd served in former President Barack Obama’s National Security Council before joining Goldman Sachs in 2013. She served as a senior advisor at the Biden Institute at the University of Delaware before joining the Department of Homeland Security. WATCH: Liberal Media’s DESPICABLE Coverage of Trump’s Attempted Assassination

Today, several of the liberal outlets made the choice to display absolute degeneracy when covering former President Donald Trump’s attempted assassination in Pennsylvania. Now, not all of the left-leaning outlets did this. ABC News, CBS, NBC News, and others reported correctly, along with center, independent, and right-leaning sources, that Trump was shot and Secret Service removed him immediately. Yet, CNN and others decided to go in a different direction.  CNN wrote, “Secret Service rushes Trump off stage after he falls at rally.”  The Indy Star and other USA Today outlets said “Trump removed from stage by Secret Service after loud noises startles former president.”  The Washington Post wrote, “Trump taken away after loud noises at rally.” Very specific, that. Politico decided to kick it up a notch by writing, “Photo of bloodied Trump fist bumping immediately spotlighted by his allies.”  Newsweek wrote an incredible headline, that has since been deleted, “MAGA responds with outrage after Donald Trump injured at Pennsylvania rally.” Yes, that’s the story: conservatives pounce on the former president’s attempted assassination. Now, not to be outdone, Colorado Democrat and state representative Steve Wood decided now was the right time to tweet, “The last thing America needed was sympathy for the devil. But here we are.”  It turns out that spending eight years calling a man Hitler and the devil has disgusting consequences. And, as usual, the legacy media are complicit. Elon Musk Endorses Trump, Calls for Head of Secret Service to Resign Following Shooting

Billionaire entrepreneur and social media maven Elon Musk endorsed former President Donald Trump on Saturday evening following the apparent assassination attempt on the former president at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.  “I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery,” Musk posted on his social media platform X, embedding a video of Trump pumping his fist moments after the shooting.  I fully endorse President Trump and hope for his rapid recovery pic.twitter.com/ZdxkF63EqF— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 13, 2024 The likely assassination attempt took place at 6:11 p.m. Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, 33 miles north of Pittsburgh. The pops of a gun could be heard as Trump ducked to the floor of the stage and at least six Secret Service agents rushed to shield the former president.  In a statement after he was treated at a nearby medical facility, Trump said he “was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear.” “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt,” Musk wrote on X Saturday night. Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 13, 2024 Musk also shared a short video of a BBC News interview with a rally attendee who claims to have seen the shooter on a roof with the gun before the shooting. The rallygoer says in the video that he told police, but nothing appeared to be done about it. “The head of the Secret Service and the leader of [Trump’s] security detail should resign,” Musk wrote in the X post sharing the BBC video.  The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign https://t.co/ihlEC5NP1w— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 14, 2024 Musk blamed the shooting on “extreme incompetence” by the Secret Service, suggesting the only alternative explanation was that not catching the shooter before he opened fire “was deliberate.” “Either way,” Musk wrote, “the [Secret Service] leadership must resign.” Extreme incompetence or it was deliberate. Either way, the SS leadership must resign. https://t.co/0vYGrj6yuH— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 14, 2024 In a post sharing a photo and brief biography of the director of the Secret Service, Kimberly Cheatle, Musk poked fun at her qualifications. Before taking over as head of the Secret Service in September 2022, Cheatle was senior director of global security for PepsiCo. “So before being put in charge of protecting the PRESIDENT, she was guarding bags of Cheetos … ,” Must wrote.  So before being put in charge of protecting the PRESIDENT, she was guarding bags of Cheetos … https://t.co/7btbCBsRkc— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 14, 2024 Musk, who bought Twitter and renamed it X, also suggested that the assassination attempt made Trump a political “martyr.”  “The Reid Hoffman’s of the world got their dearest wish … but then the martyr lived,” he wrote. Hoffman, a co-founder of LinkedIn, funded E. Jean Carroll’s defamation case against Trump through a nonprofit that Democrat donors support, Forbes reported.  Musk’s reference was to a recent spat between Hoffman and Peter Thiel, former CEO of PayPal and a Trump supporter, in which Thiel mockingly thanked Hoffman for making Trump a “martyr.”  “Yeah, I wish I had made him an actual martyr,” Hoffman reportedly retorted.  The Reid Hoffman’s of the world got their dearest wish … but then the martyr lived pic.twitter.com/laaRBc5yol— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 14, 2024 The post Elon Musk Endorses Trump, Calls for Head of Secret Service to Resign Following Shooting appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Secret Service Director Faces Questions After Attempted Assassination of Trump

The director of the U.S. Secret Service is facing heightened scrutiny following Saturday’s assassination attempt of former President Donald Trump. An eyewitness at the Butler, Pa., rally told the BBC that he warned police about the gunman before Trump was shot at approximately 6:15 p.m. The interview, which was shared widely on social media, sparked outrage. The head of the Secret Service and the leader of this security detail should resign https://t.co/ihlEC5NP1w— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) July 14, 2024 House Oversight Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., announced Saturday that “I have already contacted the Secret Service for a briefing and am also calling on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to appear for a hearing.” Cheatle was appointed by President Joe Biden to be director of the Secret Service in 2022. Her 25-year career included a stint serving on Biden’s security detail as vice president. Sean Davis, CEO and co-founder of The Federalist, reported that Trump’s security detail had requested “beefed up protection and resources for weeks, but has been rebuffed time and again.” BREAKING: A source familiar with Trump’s security detail tells @FDRLST that the former and future president’s detail has been asking for beefed up protection and resources for weeks, but has been rebuffed time and again by Biden’s DHS.DHS, which oversees Secret Service…— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) July 14, 2024 The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for making such decisions. For example, Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas personally declined a request from presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for Secret Service protection. It’s long past time for Biden to put pettiness aside and grant Secret Service protection to @RobertKennedyJr— Thomas Massie (@RepThomasMassie) July 14, 2024 The Heritage Foundation’s Christian Lasval posted video from June 13 in Washington, D.C., revealing that he was able to stand approximately 10 feet from Trump without any interference from law enforcement. On the ill preparedness of the Secret Service today: I recorded this approx. 10ft from President Trump on June 13.I walked up to where I took this video about 2 minutes before Trump walked out of the door.I was never screened before getting this close. pic.twitter.com/11oBfP0tJF https://t.co/6PloCKS08z— Christian Julio Lasval (@christianlasval) July 14, 2024 Members of Congress sounded off Saturday as more details emerged about the shooting. Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, praised Secret Services officers for their swift reaction Saturday but questioned the agency’s leadership during an interview on Fox News. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., demanded the Democrat-led Senate initiate an investigation to reveal what happened. The Senate Homeland Security Committee must investigate this assassination attempt and attempted mass murder and get to the bottom of how it could have happened— Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) July 14, 2024 Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, D-Miss., ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee, in April introduced legislation to remove Trump’s protection. “This legislation would reform the U.S. Secret Service’s protective mission by automatically terminating Secret Service protection for those who have been sentenced to prison following conviction for a Federal or State felony,” Thompson announced at the time. Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, who blamed the assassination attempt on the rhetoric of progressive Democrats like Biden, called for Thompson to be expelled from Congress. Remember this? I do. Kick his ass out of Congress. Absolute scumbag. https://t.co/vq7JBMVU2v— J.D. Vance (@JDVance1) July 13, 2024 As lawmakers examine Saturday’s incident, the FBI announced that it would take the lead role investigating the assassination attempt. CBS's Brennan Mourns Trump Didn't Lower 'The Temperature' After Getting Shot

CBS’s host of Face the Nation, Margaret Brennan, joined the network’s breaking coverage of Saturday’s assassination attempt of former President Trump at his Pennsylvania rally, where she was dismayed that a statement from campaign advisor Chris LaCivita might “escalate” Trump’s “us versus the system” rhetoric and that a statement from Trump himself didn’t lower “the temperature” even though once could make a solid case that it did. Chief elections and campaign correspondent Robert Costa reported at 7:47 PM Eastern, “There’s anger, though, from the Trump side. This is a new social media post from Chris LaCivita, who is one of the top campaign advisors to Trump. He said, ‘They tried to –’”     Costa briefly paused as CBS sorted out some technical difficulties before continuing, ‘“They tried to keep Trump off the ballot and they tried to put him in jail and now you see this.’ So, you see a politically charged response from Chris LaCivita, the top—” A distraught Brennan reacted, “Ugh, taking it right to where Democrats are trying to prevent it from going. You saw Speaker Pelosi -- former Speaker Pelosi issue a statement talking about the political violence her family had experienced and condemning it. In this context, and saying how glad she was that former President Trump is safe.  She later added, “That is just incredible at a moment of incredible sensitivity to say something like that. To allege whatever ‘they’ means, there’s no context to who ‘they’ are who are trying to keep them off the ballot, but they ‘they tried to put him in jail and now you see this.’” Brennan further claimed, “Those words have extreme weight. But just to -- separate topic, very much related. The language around this campaign has been about 'us versus the system.' 'Me versus them.' That all the legal cases against Donald Trump, he claims, are politically motivated to prevent him from reelection. By alleging there is a connection to this attempt on his life, it would escalate that.” It is worth noting that LaCivta would later delete his post. Later, in the 9:00 hour, Costa reported on Trump's statement that should have made Brennan happy. The statement read, in part, “nothing is known at this time about the shooter who is now dead.”     In other words, Trump didn’t blame the left, leaving the door open for a “John Hinckley wants to impress Jodie Foster” or other type of explanation, but Brennan still wasn’t satisfied, “This was a traumatic event, no doubt for him, but I did notice there was no call for lowering the temperature, condemning all political violence, and really trying to signal to his supporters as well not to retaliate or to have any kind of escalation here.” Elsewhere in CBS’s coverage, Brennan recalled “Olivia [Rinaldi] saying 'there was a palpable feeling of anger towards the media after this happened. The people in the crowd turned toward them. They started shouting. Telling us it's our fault'...what law enforcement will do is prevent any retaliation." Which was a sentiment shared on NBC by Dasha Burns.   Margaret Brennan recalls "Olivia [Rinaldi] saying 'there was a palpable feeling of anger towards the media after this happened. Telling us it's our fault'...what law enforcement will do is prevent any retaliation" pic.twitter.com/A3yvEHFn6G — Alex Christy (@alexchristy17) July 14, 2024   Here is a transcript for the July 13 coverage: CBS News Special 7/13/2024 7:47 PM ET ROBERT COSTA: There’s anger, though, from the Trump side. This is a new social media post from Chris LaCivita, who is one of the top campaign advisors to Trump. He said “they tried to – MALE VOICE: I hear nothing. COSTA: “They tried to keep Trump off the ballot and they tried to put him in jail and now you see this.” So, you see a politically charged response from Chris LaCivita, the top— MARGARET BRENNAN: Ugh, taking it right to where Democrats are trying to prevent it from going. You saw Speaker Pelosi -- former Speaker Pelosi issue a statement talking about the political violence her family had experienced and condemning it. In this context and saying how glad she was that former President Trump is safe.  You have the expectation that White House will issue a statement. We know the vice president and the president have been briefed on what's been going on. They, themselves, of course, have Secret Service detail and you have to imagine there is an alert level across the board right now, but one of the things, we do need to pull back. That is just incredible at a moment of incredible sensitivity to say something like that. To allege whatever “they” means, there’s no context to who “they” are who are trying to keep them off the ballot, but they “they tried to put him in jail and now you see this.” COSTA: Trump’s top campaign advisor. BRENNAN: Exactly, those words have extreme weight. But just to -- separate topic, very much related. The language around this campaign has been about “us versus the system.” “Me versus them.” That all the legal cases against Donald Trump, he claims are politically motivated to prevent him from reelection. By alleging there is a connection to this attempt on his life, it would escalate that.  … 9:08 PM ET COSTA: I just want to read a part of his statement from 8:42 tonight on Truth Social. He said “nothing is known at this time about the shooter who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong, that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.” He closes with “God Bless America” and we saw him raise his hand in the air, defiantly, blood on his face as he left the stage. BRENNAN: He is recovering from these injuries now. This was a traumatic event no doubt for him, but I did notice there was no call for lowering the temperature, condemning all political violence, and really trying to signal to his supporters as well not to retaliate or to have any kind of escalation here. I just am looking at these statements.
