WATCH: Tim Kaine Is Asked Why Democrats Are So Unpopular

Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) was asked over the weekend why the Democrat Party has become so deeply unpopular among voters. Kaine was asked the question during a Sunday interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” after new polling from last week showed that Democrats are more unpopular now than they have ever been. “You see there this is Quinnipiac poll; 57 percent of the American people have an unfavorable view of the Democratic Party, only 31 percent favorable,” Tapper said. “This is the worst number for the Democratic Party since Quinnipiac University began asking the question. And it’s not an outlier. A recent CNN poll found a 33-year low favorable rating with the Democratic Party.” “Why is your party so staggeringly unpopular with the public?” he asked. Kaine claimed he did not know what happens in the other 49 states, just Virginia. “We focus on the economy,” he said. “This is what we do in Virginia. And I think, sometimes, national Democrats don’t.” “It’s just that so often, Democratic candidates don’t emphasize that,” he later added. “And so, yes, the American public looks at standard campaigns,” he continued. “They don’t see Democrats advertising on the economy, which is their principal concern, and so they have wonders about us. Let’s return to the bread-and-butter basics that people want to really focus on.” WATCH: WATCH: Jake Tapper asks Democrat Sen. Vance Exposes DEI ‘Scandal’ Involving Air Traffic Controllers

Vice President JD Vance offered insight into President Donald Trump‘s comments about how DEI policies were a factor in the deadly mid-air collision between an American Airlines jet and Army Black Hawk Helicopter near Reagan National Airport in the Washington, D.C., area last week. Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo asked Vance if he had any evidence that any of the employees at the control were “DEI hires” during a “Sunday Morning Futures” interview. “No, the president’s been very clear about this. This is not saying that the person who was at the controls is a DEI hire,” Vance replied, adding: “Let’s just say, first of all, we should investigate everything. But let’s just say the person at the controls didn’t have enough staffing around him or her because we were turning people away because of DEI reasons. There is a very direct connection between the policies of the last administration and short-staffed air traffic controllers. That has to stop.” Vice President @JDVance on DEI hiring practices at the FAA ? “There’s a very direct connection between the policies of the last administration and short-staffed air traffic controllers…That is a scandal. Thankfully, it's a scandal that the president has stopped." pic.twitter.com/e5NYUYCSlq — Andrew Surabian (@Surabees) February 2, 2025 Vance continued his answer by responding to the media coverage of Trump’s remarks in the wake of the tragedy in which 67 people were killed. “By the way, it’s so funny to me. The media has picked up on this — not you, of course, Maria — but others have picked up on this. The president made very clear that he wasn’t blaming anybody, but he was being very explicit about the fact that DEI policies have led our air traffic controllers to be short-staffed. That is a scandal,” Vance said. “Thankfully, it’s a scandal that the president has stopped.” The New York Times revealed that an internal preliminary report from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that staffing at the tower at the time of the collision was “not normal for the time of day and volume of traffic.” Also mentioned by the newspaper was that the controller who was dealing with helicopters around the airport was also instructing planes that were landing and departing, tasks typically assigned to multiple people. Earlier in the interview, Vance explained how he believed DEI policies of the Obama and Biden administrations “contributed” to the current situation. “We have a massive shortage of air traffic controllers. And, in fact, there have been a number of lawsuits from people who would like to become air traffic controllers against the Obama and Biden administration who basically said, we were told not even to apply because of the color of our skin, because they were white people who wanted to be air traffic controllers, and under the DEI regime of the Biden administration, they weren’t welcome.” Vance said that means the “we don’t have the best and the brightest sometimes in these positions” and “even more importantly than that, even when we do get really good people, they’re going to be way overstressed because they’re working long hours, because air traffic controllers are short-staffed.” Hearkening back to his time in the Senate, Vance noted that he served on the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee. “We knew for years that we had a shortage at air traffic control,” Vance said. “Well, part of the reason why we had a shortage at air traffic control is because we were telling our air traffic controllers not to hire people because of the color of their skin. That is a scandal, and it is a scandal, thankfully, that has stopped under the leadership of President Trump. It’s why I’m actually optimistic about aviation safety, but it’s also why we have had way too many near misses and unfortunately a fatal crash just a couple days ago.”

Senator Warns Tulsi Gabbard’s Answer On Edward Snowden May Cost Her Being Confirmed

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) said during an interview over the weekend that former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s refusal to call Edward Snowden a traitor during her confirmation hearing last week could end up costing her. Warner made the remarks during a Sunday interview with CBS News’ “Face The Nation” when asked by leftist host Margaret Brenna what Republicans senators are saying privately about her nomination. “Edward Snowden released more information — probably did as much damage to our intelligence community as anyone in history,” Warner said. “And the fact that Ms. Gabbard — who actually had legislation to pardon Edward Snowden, she called him a brave whistleblower — couldn’t bring herself to call him a traitor, I think is disqualifying just on plain judgment.” “What would that signal if she got in, would that send to the IC workers or contractors? Is she going to suddenly enforce the law if she called Snowden a brave whistleblower?” he asked. “And what I’m particularly concerned about is our sharing of information with our allies, that’s not written into law, that’s based on trust.” “Will they really trust to share their intelligence with us if she can’t call out one of the worst traitors in recent American history as such, as a traitor?” he added. He said that the Senate Intelligence Committee has historically been the most bipartisan committee in the U.S. Senate and that those who serve on the committee often will resist pressure from their own parties. “But it’s not just Snowden, America’s most powerful intelligence tool is something we call Section 702, she left us totally confused on her views on that,” he continued. “And as well, her lack of judgment, whether it’s going to visit Assad when he was head of Syria, whether it was taking trips paid for by sketchy groups or echoing Putin’s comments somehow NATO started the war in Ukraine, that is not the judgment of somebody that would run 18 intelligence communities — agencies.” WATCH: Tulsi Gabbard’s refusal to call Edward Snowden a “traitor” in her director of national intelligence confirmation hearings is “disqualifying just on plain judgment,” says Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA). He wonders if U.S. allies will “trust to share their intelligence with us if she… pic.twitter.com/oiT7ALWvlE — Face The Nation (@FaceTheNation) February 2, 2025

Marco Rubio Gives Panama Ultimatum Over Chinese Influence On Canal

Marco Rubio Gives Panama Ultimatum Over Chinese Influence On Canal

Secretary of State Marco Rubio gave Panama President José Raúl Mulino an ultimatum today over China’s growing influence over the Panama Canal in a face-to-face meeting. According to State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce, Rubio informed Mulino that President Donald Trump has made a preliminary determination that the Chinese Communist Party’s “position of influence and control” over the Panama Canal is a violation of the Treaty Concerning the Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal. “Secretary Rubio made clear that this status quo is unacceptable and that absent immediate changes, it would require the United States to take measures necessary to protect its rights under the Treaty,” the statement said. The meeting comes as Trump has pressured Panama to reduce the influence of Chinese companies over the canal, which is vital to global trade. Trump argued that this influence could result in the canal being closed off to the U.S., posing a threat to national security and violating the treaty. He also pointed out that the U.S. was instrumental in building the canal in the early 1900s, with many Americans losing their lives during its construction. Mulino has maintained that Panama controls the canal despite a Hong Kong company operating ports at both sides of the canal. Rubio also thanked Mulino for his support of the program to repatriate illegal immigrants, which has reduced illegal migration through the Darien Gap. The two leaders also spoke about improving the playing field for fair competition by U.S. businesses, and Mulino’s support for a democratic, free Venezuela. “Secretary Rubio expressed his gratitude for the productive discussion and underscored the United States’ dedication to making both nations safer, stronger, and more prosperous,” the statement added. “He noted this meeting marks an important step in reinvigorating the strategic relationship between the United States and Panama, in line with President Trump’s vision.” In the meeting was also Panama’s Foreign Minister Javier Martínez-Acha. Rubio kicked off his Central American tour in Panama today where, in addition to his meeting with the country’s leader, he is touring the Miraflores Locks at the Panama canal, and meeting with U.S. embassy staff and their families. Rubio will also visit El Salvador, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic from February 1 to 6. Rubio’s trip is the first time a secretary of state chose to travel to Latin America as the first trip in over 100 years, reported Fox News.

King Of Jordan To Visit White House As Trump Calls For Nation To Take In Gaza Refugees

Jordan’s King Abdullah accepted an invitation to meet with President Donald Trump at the White House on February 11. The meeting comes amid Trump’s repeated calls for Jordan and Egypt to take in refugees from Gaza, which he has described as a “demolition site.” “King Abdullah II will meet with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, after His Majesty received an invitation letter from President Trump last week,” the Jordanian palace said in a statement. Trump has said that he believes Arab nations should step up to help build new lives for the refugees who have been living through 15 months of war. “You’re talking about a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing,” Trump said. “I don’t know, something has to happen, but it’s literally a demolition site right now. Almost everything’s demolished and people are dying there, so I’d rather get involved with some of the Arab nations and build housing in a different location where I think they could maybe live in peace for a change.” Leaders of both Jordan and Egypt have rejected any such proposal. “I think Jordan will take people, yeah, people from Gaza, and I think Egypt will take them also. I mean, I heard somebody said they’re not going to, but I think they will. I feel confident they will,” Trump also said when asked about his idea. On Saturday, the foreign ministers of Qatar, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and the Secretary-General of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) rejected Trump’s idea in a statement. “They also rejected any efforts to encourage the transfer or uprooting of Palestinians from their land, under any circumstances or justifications,” the statement, released by the Qatari government, said. “Such actions, they noted, threaten regional stability, exacerbate the conflict, and undermine the prospects for peace and coexistence among the region’s peoples.”

NBC’s Kristen Welker Frets Laken Riley Act Might Be Enforced, Gets SHUT DOWN by Sen. Kelly

NBC’s Kristen Welker Frets Laken Riley Act Might Be Enforced, Gets SHUT DOWN by Sen. Kelly

On the most recent edition of NBC’s Meet the Depressed, host Kristen Welker tried to guilt-trip Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) over his vote for the Laken Riley Act, which President Donald Trump signed into law. Welker quickly found that Kelly wasn’t going to take the bait: Watch as Welker gets shut down after trying to cite fellow Democrat Sen. Adam Schiff (CA) in an appeal to authority: KRISTEN WELKER: President Trump obviously signed the Laken Riley Act into law this week. Just so folks understand, that will allow law enforcement to detain and deport undocumented immigrants who’ve been charged with theft-related crimes. You voted in support of this bill. I had an opportunity to interview your colleague, Senator Adam Schiff, who opposed it. He told me last week that this bill is so broad the U.S., quote, “would be able to deport DREAMers for taking a tube of toothpaste”. Can you guarantee this law won't be applied in a way that's overly broad? MARK KELLY: Well, this law is about public safety. Representing a border state, this affects Arizona, I think, more than other states, just because of, you know, numbers. And it's, you know, where folks cross. Kristen, if you come across the border and you don't have documentation, you've already committed a crime. This is for somebody who then decides to commit a second crime. And they're taken into custody, there'll be due process involved so they can eventually, if they can prove that these are not valid charges where they go through the court system, they could then be released. I'm not concerned about, you know, what Adam is talking about. I think, you know, very highly of DREAMers. DREAMers are as American as my own two kids. I think we should be working towards a pathway to citizenship for DREAMers. I know some of my Republican colleagues feel the same way. And we're going to solve these border issues by working together, Democrats and Republicans, to come up with policy changes on border security and reform.  Won’t someone think of the poor DREAMers busted for shoplifting hypothetical toothpaste, wails Welker, as she lobbies against an “overly broad” imagined enforcement of the law. And, ultimately, that is the problem that undergirded the need for passage of the Laken Riley Act in the first place. The concern over application of the law now is directly proportional to the media’s lack of concern over the preceding administration’s noncompliance with federal immigration law. In scheme after scheme, not only did the media go along with the Biden administration’s nonenforcement of the law, but they aided and abetted efforts to minimize the impact of Biden’s broken border within our communities. Kelly wasn’t having any of Welker’s appeal to authority and citation of Schiff. It bears noting that Kelly does not enjoy the luxury of living in a one-party state as does Schiff, and so he dispensed with Schiff’s absurd “what if” scenario.  This isn’t to say that Kelly went total enforcement hawk. He still came out against the current border enforcement raids, against “mass deportations”, and against the use of military aircraft for deportations. Kelly also spoke out in favor of bipartisan “changes on border policy and reform”- code for a “comprehensive immigration reform” bill.  Times, they-have-a changed. Kelly knows it, even if Welker would continue to pretend otherwise.
