Michael Anthony hints that Roth prevented Van Halen’s tribute

Since the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen passed away in 2020 at the age of 65, the rumors about a possible reunion to pay tribute to the musician have been circulating and were confirmed by the people involved. The first one to reveal that was the ex-Metallica bassist Jason Newsted, who claimed he was invited by Alex Van Halen to join the band. Later on Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony and Eddie's son Wolfgang also confirmed the story. As Wolfgang said recently in an interview, with the band's vocalist David Lee Roth who prevented the tribute from happening. Now, in an interview with The Hook Rocks (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), the classic Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony hinted that Roth was really the reason why the tribute never happened. He even mentioned the Wolfgang interview with Eddie Trunk, where the musician confirmed that. Michael Anthony hints that Roth prevented Van Halen's tribute "You're talking about Joe (Satriani) being approached by Alex (Van Halen) and Dave (Lee Roth). And then there've been people like that. All of a sudden, in the press, I read that Jason Newsted, who played with Metallica, was (also approached). Now I, myself, I got a call from Alex and Dave a few years, a right around that same time." "And they wanted to put something together, and Joe was in the mix. I remember talking to Joe a couple of times after that, too. And Joe was telling me, 'Yeah, well, they gave me some of that album. (They) told me to listen to it or whatever.'" "All I can say is — I'm not gonna point fingers. But through all of this, one of the ingredients was not, let's say, playing ball with everybody else. And that's all I'm gonna say. I'll let you all figure it out. And that's why none of it worked. And you've read it probably with Wolfgang's  interviews, too, that he's been doing this past year," Michael Anthony said. In the same interview with Eddie Trunk in 2023, Wolfgand said that the final Van Halen album "A Different Kind of Truth" is not available anymore on the streaming platforms because of Roth, who prevented the band from renewing the contract of that record. Anthony is currently touring with Sammy Hagar, Joe Satriani and Jason Bonham with a setlist that is formed almost entirely by Van Halen tracks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxnS41742zk&pp=ygUQc2FtbXkgaGFnYXIgMjAyNA%3D%3DThe post Michael Anthony hints that Roth prevented Van Halen’s tribute appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The Effect releases new version of Journey song featuring Steve Perry

The singer Steve Perry decided to leave Journey in the late 90s and really retired from music after that, only returning in 2018 with the release of his solo album "Traces". But now, the musician recorded a new version for a Journey song with the band The Effect, which is formed by Trevor Lukather (Steve Lukather's son), Nic Collins (Phil Collins' son) and Emmett Lee Stang. They re-recorded the song "It Could Have Been You", first released on Journey's 1986 album "Raised On Radio" and now the track is available. In an official statement, Perry talked about the new version, saying: "In 1986 the Journey 'Raised on Radio' record was released and  it was a song I’ve always felt was a diamond in the rough. I’ve known Trevor Lukather since he was 9 years old and he is a very gifted musician." "One day we were talking about his new band, The Effect… He surprisingly mentioned 'It Could Have Been You' is one of his favorite tracks from that record, I told him I felt the same. I then said, why don’t you record it? He asked if I would sing on it if they did, I said... 'Of course my most precious!'" "I must say, singing on their powerful track brought out a vocal experience in me from years ago ! So now... Releasing on May 7th on all social’s and streaming is a very powerful reimagined version of, 'It Could Have Been You' by... The Effect. Have a listen!" Hear the The Effect feat. Steve Perry version for "It Could Have Been You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEthjEcpBAUThe post The Effect releases new version of Journey song featuring Steve Perry appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

The Who song that Roger Daltrey said is one of his favorites

The Who song that Roger Daltrey said is one of his favorites

Although The Who released their first album "My Generation" in 1965, a few years after bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, they were part of the "British Invasion", when bands from the United Kingdom conquered the North American market and the rest of the world with their songs. Formed by Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, Keith Moon and John Entwistle, the band maintained the same line-up for 14 years until the tragic death of the drummer Keith Moon in 1978 at the age of 32. After that the band decided to continue and invited the former Small Faces and Faces drummer Kenney Jones to occupy Moon's post. Although that era of the band, which resulted in two studio albums, isn't loved by many fans, Roger Daltrey once revealed that one song composed in the early 80s is one of his favorite ones from The Who. The Who song that Roger Daltrey said is one of his favorites The drummer Kenney Jones joined The Who in the same year Moon passed away. But their first album with the new member only was released in 1981. Called "Face Dances", the album had the track "You Better You Bet", which Roger Daltrey told Uncut magazine in 2001 that is one of his favorite songs from the group. “A wonderful, wonderful song. The way the vocal bounces, it always reminds me of Elvis. But it was a difficult time, yeah. The Moon carry-on was much harder than carrying on after John, because we’re more mature now." "I hate going over this but, in retrospect, we did make the wrong choice of drummers. Kenney Jones – don’t get me wrong, a fantastic drummer – but he completely threw the chemistry of the band. It just didn’t work; the spark plug was missing from the engine." He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqPlb5PLBvg&pp=ygUSeW91IGJldHRlciB5b3UgYmV0 “The first tour Kenney did with us, though, he was absolutely fucking brilliant. But after that he settled into what he knew, which was his Faces-type drumming, which doesn’t work with The Who. In some ways I’d like to go back and re-record a lot of the songs on Face Dances. But ‘You Better, You Bet’ is still one of my favorite songs of all,” Roger Daltrey said. Written by Pete Townshend, the band's main songwriter, the song was also released as a single at the time. It reached number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100, being the last single by the band to appear among the Top 20. Also was their last single to appear among the Top 10 of the United Kingdom Singles chart. Besides DEminencealtrey, Entwistle, Townshend and Kenney Jones, the song also had the keyboardist John "Rabbit" Bundrick. Besides "Face Dances", The Who recorded one more album with Jones. Called "It's Hard" (1982), it was the last album the British band released in 20th century. That album had the hit "EminenceFront", which had Pete Townshend as the lead vocalist. The Who would only release a new studio album in 2006. Called "Endless Wire", it was the first one without the bassist John Entwistle who passed away in 2002 at the age of 57. Their most recent record is "Who", released in 2019. According to the setlist database website Setlist FM, "You Better You Bet" occupies the position number 14 on the list of the songs that The Who performed the most in their career. The track was played more than 400 times live. It's a 100 times more than songs like "The Seeker", "Join Together" and 'Bargain", for example. The post The Who song that Roger Daltrey said is one of his favorites appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.
