Give It Up, Eyeball Network: FCC’s Carr Ready for CBS’s Kamala Transcript

By appearing Monday on the Fox News Channel’s America’s Newsroom, FCC Chairman Brendan Carr showed he’s not messing around by reminding CBS News that Monday was deadline day for them to turn over the full transcript of its October 2024 60 Minutes interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris. Monday could shape out to be quite the headache for CBS as the network was also barreling towards a possible settlement with former President Trump over a lawsuit he filed over said Harris lovefest in which answers were rearranged to make her more cogent.     After co-host Dana Perino played the clips in question, Carr explained where the FCC comes into play, specifically whether CBS violated its news distortion policy that broadcast networks are subjected to by being over-the-air (i.e. available via rabbit ears): We have sought the unedited copy of the transcript and the video from this interview and it’s part of an FCC investigation. There was a complaint filed under something called the news distortion policy and that’s a 50-year-old policy at the FCC that applies to broadcasters, so not cable like Fox News, and the policy says you can’t, you know, swap answers out to make it look like somebody said something entirely different. The classic case of someone says yes to an answer and you splice in a no answer. Here it’s usually very difficult to make out news distortion complaints. You don’t want the FCC leaning in too heavily on this....It’s due today. And I expect CBS to provide it by the end of the day to see what in fact was said as part of our own news distortion investigation. Asked by Perino about potential “consequence[s],” Carr said the agency would be “open-minded” and thus CBS could be open to “the full suite of FCC options that are on the table that apply to any broadcast licensee.” He also blasted his predecessor (Jessica Rosenworcel, appointed by President Barack Obama) for having “summarily dismissed this complaint, but I’m not sure how you can do that without seeing the actual video” Perino’s last question was exactly the right one: “[W]ill that transcript become public so all of us can read it or because of the investigation, do you hold onto it?” Carr first said he hadn’t “made a final decision,” but tipped his hand by acknowledging “transparency here is incredibly important” in which “the American public ultimately deserves to see this for themselves.” “And what’s interesting is CBS releases other transcripts. For instance, the Face the Nation interview recently with Vice President Vance? They released the full, unedited transcript there, but for some reason, they haven’t done it here,” he astutely noted. As for the Trump lawsuit, The New York Times reported Thursday that “many executives at CBS’s parent company, Paramount, believe that settling the lawsuit would increase the odds that the Trump administration does not block or delay their planned multibillion-dollar merger with....Skydance, an entertainment company backed by the billionaire Larry Ellison and run by his son David.” The Times added a settlement — which ABC agreed to with Trump over March 10, 2024 comments made by George Stephanopoulos — “could also cause an uproar within CBS News” that settling would be “tantamount to a politician’s standard-issue gripes about a news organization’s editorial judgment.” Puck’s Dylan Byers confirmed this possible scenario on Friday, calling it likely “[b]arring some unforeseen twist of fate” and it’d be “tens of millions of dollars to the Trump Presidential Library.” He dished tea on the uproar among the bloodthirsty Trump haters at the network, specifically 60 Minutes and stalwarts Scott Pelley and Lesley Stahl (click “expand”): Shari’s impending settlement has left CBS News journalists, and particularly 60 Minutes staff, in an uproar. Scott Pelley and Lesley Stahl, two of the most veteran 60 Minutes correspondents, are irate over the decision, according to their colleagues. Network sources say they would not be surprised to see some staffers resign or speak out publicly if and when the settlement is made. We’ll see.  Meanwhile, some are questioning why CBS News C.E.O. Wendy McMahon and 60 Minutes executive producer Bill Owens are not standing up more forcefully for the news division. Many of those folks were already upset with McMahon and Owens for changes at Evening News (Owens is now E.P. on that show, too) that seem to leave little room for the day’s political news: “Bad enough we have a revamped national evening newscast barely covering the incredibly sweeping and consequential first full week of President Trump,” one correspondent texted me. “Now we get word we have an owner also eager to settle with him?” (....) In any event, the whole affair highlights the indignity of this particular moment in American journalism. It’s not enough that once-storied news organizations must suffer through the contractions of their newsrooms, the inexorable decline of their influence, the diminishment of talent salaries, and so forth. On Sunday night, Semafor’s Max Tani reported “CBS News staff are bracing for an all-but-inevitable” settlement over the selectively edited Harris answers on Israel, which “virtually no one at the network actually believes was flawed” and would be an “ominous sign for a broadcast news industry[.]” To see the relevant FNC transcript from February 3, click here.

Is the European Union Cracking Down on Faith?

While the European Union (EU) is infamous for its contempt for free speech, it may have sunk to a new low by reportedly going after a religious app. Tech entrepreneur Alex Jones announced that EU regulations were crushing the Hallow App, his popular Christian and Catholic platform that encourages prayer, meditation and Bible reading.  “Getting shut down in the EU it seems,” Jones, who is the app’s CEO and co-founder, wrote Jan. 28 on X. In a follow-up post, Jones explained that his app’s current difficulties were directly tied to its religious nature: “The EU is shutting us down by over-regulation, apparently targeting any religious app, making it effectively impossible for us to operate in the EU.” [Story Continues on MRC Free Speech America]

'Bobby may be willing to play nice — I won’t': Nicole Shanahan threatens to primary senators who vote against RFK Jr.

'Bobby may be willing to play nice — I won’t': Nicole Shanahan threatens to primary senators who vote against RFK Jr.

Here’s the attitude of those on the left in a nutshell: They’re the party of acceptance, tolerance, and inclusivity … until you disagree with them. The moment you dare to have a different perspective, suddenly their deep-seated animosity is on display for all to see. Democrats’ treatment of RFK Jr. is a prime example. “His alignment with Donald Trump is something that they cannot stand because more than they hate you, more than they hate me, because we hold values that are actually based in principle, based in religious belief, based in morality … the left cannot stand when one of their own defects,” says Liz Wheeler. This was never more obvious than during Kennedy’s Senate confirmation hearings. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.), for example, asked Kennedy in a “condescending, accusatory tone” if he was nothing more than a “rubber stamp” for Donald Trump. Thankfully, this attempt to “trigger” him didn’t impact his response. With confidence, he answered, “President Trump has asked me to end the chronic disease epidemic and make America healthy again.” And when Sen. Masto asked if that was the “only reason” he’s headed to HHS, Kennedy was clear again: “President Trump has asked me because I am in a unique position to end that, and that is what I’m doing, and if we don’t solve that problem, Senator, all of the other disputes we have about who’s paying, whether it’s insurance companies, whether it’s providers, whether it’s HMOs, whether it’s patients or families — all of those are moving deck chairs around on the Titanic. Our ship is sinking. ... We have the highest chronic disease burden of any country in the world.” America’s chronic disease epidemic “is an existential threat economically, to our military, to our health, to our sense of well-being, and it is a priority for President Trump, and that's why he asked me to run the agency, and if I'm privileged to be confirmed, that's exactly what I'll do,” he reiterated. Senator Masto, says Liz, “has the power to propagate the chronic disease crisis in our children.” “If she votes no, she's voting in favor of autism and ADHD and childhood obesity and childhood diabetes and autoimmune disorders and cancer and infertility and a mental health crisis, the likes of which no country on Earth has ever seen before,” she condemns. Further, just the verbiage of her question — “Is that the only reason why you’re at HHS?” — is evidence that she doesn’t care about the health of Americans. Liz says she might as well have asked, “Just [ending the chronic disease epidemic]? Not any of my interests? Not the interest of my lobbyists? Just your family and your children and your health? That's all that you're going there to fix?” While this hearing was maddening to watch, Liz notes that the bright side is that it “exposed the swamp” and ignited the passion of especially MAHA moms to see its demise. RFK Jr.’s former running mate, Nicole Shanahan — “the prototype of a MAHA mom,” says Liz — posted a video promising to primary senators who vote against Kennedy. — (@) “While Bobby may be willing to play nice — I won't. If you vote against him, I will personally fund challengers to primary you in your next election, and I will enlist hundreds of thousands to join me,” she threatened. “Big Pharma and Big Ag have exploited us for far too long. It ends now. You're either on the side of transparency and accountability, or you are standing in the way. The choice is yours. Please choose wisely,” Shanahan concluded. “Call your senators!” Liz pleads. Video: United Airlines plane aborts high-speed takeoff after engine bursts into flames

In the latest air traffic emergency, a United Airlines plane was forced to abort a takeoff after an engine burst into flames while accelerating down an airport runway in Texas. United Airlines flight UA1382 was departing Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Sunday and was bound for New York City's LaGuardia Airport. The Airbus A319-100 plane was carrying 104 passengers and five crew members on board."We've had a heart-wrenching week in aviation."The plane began to taxi down the runway at 8:35 a.m., when passengers noticed that a fire broke out on one of the wings. Ashlyn Sharp, a passenger on the malfunctioning plane, provided video of the fiery plane to KRIV-TV. The video shows large flames and black smoke flowing from the wing of the plane. Sharp told KRIV-TV, "It sounded like something flew into the engine or something. [It] scared everyone. That's when we all looked out our window and saw the engine and the wing on fire, and we could smell the smoke inside."The video shows a flight crew member instructing the passengers to stay seated when someone on the plane yells, "No! It's a fire!"Another passenger is heard saying on the video, "Please, please get us out of here." The Aviation Herald reported that the Airbus A319-100 plane was traveling at a "high speed" of about 115 knots (approximately 130 mph) when the engine malfunctioned. The Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement, "The crew of United Airlines Flight 1382 safely aborted its takeoff from the George Bush Intercontinental/Houston Airport in Texas due to a reported engine issue around 8:35 a.m. local time on Sunday, Feb. 2."The United Airlines plane stopped on the runway, where emergency vehicles rushed to the scene to put out the fire. The passengers were evacuated from the plane and bused to the airport terminal. The Houston Fire Department stated it assisted in deboarding the passengers and that there were no reported injuries. The FAA has launched an investigation into the engine malfunction. There have been multiple air traffic emergencies in recent times. As Blaze News reported last week, an American Eagle passenger jet collided with a Black Hawk military helicopter on Wednesday. All 62 passengers and two crew members of the doomed plane as well as the three soldiers on the Black Hawk helicopter are presumed dead. As of Sunday, the remains of 55 of the 67 victims had been recovered and positively identified, according to John Donnelly — the chief of Washington’s fire and emergency medical services department. The mid-air collision is the deadliest domestic plane crash in nearly 20 years. Dive teams have been surveying the wreckage and are expected to begin to extract the aircraft out of the Potomac River on Monday. Officials said they expect to remove all of the plane and helicopter wreckage by Feb. 12, according to the New York Times. The Navy unit involved in recovering the wreckage was also involved in the response to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore last spring, said Col. Francis Pera of the Corps of Engineers. Two days after the collision involving the passenger plane and Black Hawk helicopter, a small plane crashed into a neighborhood in Northeast Philadelphia. All six passengers on the plane as well as a person in a car are believed to have been killed in the plane crash. There were also 22 people injured in the plane crash. Five of the victims remain hospitalized, and three are reportedly in critical condition. The Learjet 55 departed from an airport in Florida and arrived in Northeast Philadelphia around 2:15 p.m. on Friday. The jet was on the ground for a few hours before departing for the Springfield-Branson National Airport in Springfield, Missouri, around 6:06 p.m. on Friday. GPS data revealed the medical jet climbed approximately 1,500 feet into the air before taking a slight right turn, followed by a slight left turn, and then a steep descent before the plane went into a "high-impact" crash, according to officials. The entire flight was reportedly less than one minute. The airplane slammed into a busy intersection near the Roosevelt Mall — an outdoor shopping plaza in Philadelphia.According to CBS News, a small medical jet was transporting a Shriners Children's Hospital patient, her mother, and four crew members. The girl was being treated for a "life-threatening" illness in the United States before returning to Mexico. Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that six people on the plane were Mexican nationals. The FAA is investigating the plane crash in Philadelphia. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on Saturday, "We've had a heart-wrenching week in aviation.""A couple days ago, I had a chance to sit down with a few of the family members who lost loved ones in the D.C. crash. Their pain is unimaginable," Duffy stated. "I committed transparency to them. When I know information, I'm going to share it with them, but also with the American people.""Up in Philadelphia, we've sent a team of FAA investigators in conjunction with the NTSB," Duffy continued. "We're not going to have answers right away. It's going to take time. But as I get those answers, I'm going to share that with all of you."Duffy vowed to provide any resources from the Department of Transportation to assist Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro. Duffy said helicopter travel is restricted in the airspace around Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. On Thursday, President Donald Trump named Chris Rocheleau as acting FAA administrator to fill the position that has been unfulfilled since Inauguration Day. Rocheleau has served the FAA for more than 20 years in multiple roles, including deputy associate administrator for aviation safety, chief of staff, deputy associate administrator for policy, international affairs and environment, executive director for international affairs, and director of national security programs, emergency operations, and investigations.Watch the Blaze Media original documentary "Countdown to the Next Aviation Disaster," which first debuted in November. BlazeTV host Stu Burguiere went on a mission to discover why there have been so many "close calls" of commercial airliner collisions in recent times. Burguiere's investigation revealed several eyebrow-raising developments on how airports are using outdated technology, DEI practices that exclude the most qualified would-be air traffic controllers, and severely understaffed air traffic towers. Billionaire Elon Musk shared the documentary on the X social media platform last week. Like Blaze News? Mexican cartels greenlight explosive drone assaults against Border Patrol agents

Mexican drug cartels have instructed members to attack Border Patrol agents by deploying drones equipped with explosives, according to an agency memo.An "Officer Safety Alert" obtained by the New York Post and NewsNation stated that the El Paso Sector Intelligence and Operations Center received information on February 1 indicating that "Mexican cartel leaders have authorized the deployment of drones equipped with explosives to be used against U.S. Border Patrol agents and U.S. military personal currently working along the border with Mexico."'We don't want the bad guy to know we're coming.'"It is recommended that all U.S. Border Patrol agents and DoD [Department of Defense] personnel working along the border report any sighting of drones to their respective leadership staff and the EPT-IOC," the memo added.Border Patrol officers were advised "to remain cognizant of their surroundings at all times" and "carry proper equipment," including first-aid kits and body armor. The memo also told agents that their rifles "should be readily available."The directive from the cartels comes during President Donald Trump's nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration and mass deportation efforts.NewsNation reported Sunday that threats against Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers have escalated on social media. Memos circulated by Customs and Border Protection cited two posts that encouraged assassination attempts against ICE agents. Another social media post instructed illegal aliens in the U.S. to "spit and urinate" in ICE agents' food and defecate in their vehicles, NewsNation reported. Last month, a Texas Department of Public Safety memo obtained by the Post revealed that a group of 20 Tren de Aragua gang members armed with blades, tire irons, and broken liquor bottles attempted to break into the U.S. at an El Paso border crossing.A source reported that TDA intended to "cause harm" to the Texas National Guard troops stationed near the border. The San Diego Sector Intelligence Unit received an alert in early December that a Mexican cartel had issued a hit against Border Patrol agents stationed at the Imperial Beach and Chula Vista Border Patrol Stations."Information received indicated top cartel leaders ordered the shooting towards agents in response and retaliation for an incident that occurred," an internal memo read.Border czar Tom Homan told NewsNation last week, "We've got many target cities, but I'm not going to share them with you because we got to keep our officers safe.""Matter of fact, Chicago, that operation was leaked, so we had to reschedule that one. But we need an element of surprise because of officer safety issues. We don't want the bad guy to know we're coming," he added.Like Blaze News? Exposing the lies: Why senators are fighting to block Trump’s Cabinet nominees

President Trump’s Cabinet nominees have all faced hostile confirmation hearings as both Republican and Democratic senators grilled everyone from Pete Hegseth to RFK Jr. on the so-called serious issues they have with his picks. But why? Glenn Beck of “The Glenn Beck Program” believes he may have the answer. “Let’s start with Pete Hegseth,” Glenn says. “What is he going to do? He’s going into the Department of Defense. He is looking for those weasels that have been changing everything in our Defense Department, have been culling anybody who disagreed with Joe Biden, anybody who thought Donald Trump might be right, they got rid of all those people.” “So Pete Hegseth is a target. Why? Because he’s going to find out what’s going on. He’s going to run investigations, and he’s going to stop it,” he continues, before explaining that the response to Kash Patel’s nomination is quite similar. “What is Kash Patel going to do when he gets into the FBI? Well, he’s going to investigate crimes, the weaponization of the FBI, also the way they protected those in Congress or those in power,” he says, noting that Hunter Biden’s laptop is a perfect example. “Then you have the director of national intelligence and Tulsi Gabbard. She’s under fire. Why? Well, she needs to go in and expose all of the black ops and those leaking lies to the press and shoring up the lies for members of Congress and rooting out the darkness between the members of Congress, the White House, the military-industrial complex, and the intelligence community,” he continues. And after the COVID-19 pandemic and the government response, RFK Jr. is facing some of the harshest criticism. “Why is he being challenged? Because he’s going to expose the lies of COVID, the corruption, and corruption with pharmaceutical companies. He’s going after and breaking that all up. These are all big businesses, you know, big businesses for congressmen and senators and the government. This is the center of public-private partnerships,” Glenn explains. “They all involve people who want to go in and find out the root of what’s really going wrong here, so they’re all under attack,” he continues, adding, “but what did the Democrats say is the existential threat to the Republic and all mankind? What was it? Global warming.” Want more from Glenn Beck?To enjoy more of Glenn’s masterful storytelling, thought-provoking analysis, and uncanny ability to make sense of the chaos, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.

Furious Democrats protest against Elon Musk after USAID workers locked out of building: 'Illegal and corrupt'

Democratic politicians are gearing up to challenge Elon Musk and his efforts to reduce the size of the federal government after workers were locked out of the U.S. Agency for International Development on Monday. Musk has taken aim at USAID after numerous reports that taxpayer money was being funneled to wasteful programs as well as anti-American groups. Democrats say the agency saves lives across the globe by investing in critical development programs. 'Nobody elected Musk — this is illegal and corrupt, and we will keep fighting it.' Democrats expressed their fury after workers found they could not get into the USAID building and Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that he had become the acting director of the agency. "I talked to the security guard just in there. He said he has been given specific orders to prevent employees of USAID from entering the building today. I just find that to be absolutely ridiculous. This is no way to govern," Sen. Andy Kim of New Jersey said to reporters. "This is no way to treat public servants." He added that he had gotten calls from USAID workers who told him they were being "disrespected" by members of the new administration and even "called criminals." Other Democrats went to the building to protest the action. "Our delegation seeking to do congressional oversight on reports of Elon Musk’s illegal activity at USAID was just barred from entering the building on the orders of Musk and the Trump administration. Nobody elected Musk — this is illegal and corrupt, and we will keep fighting it," said Rep. Don Beyer, a Democrat from Virginia. "What is happening here is illegal," added Kim. "It is unacceptable to have a president try through executive power ... to reorganize or remove USAID. This is an entity that was created through federal statute, codified through federal statute, and something that cannot be changed, cannot be removed except through actions of Congress." Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut also berated Musk before the applauding audience. "This is a constitutional crisis that we are in today. Let's call it what it is," he said. "The people get to decide how we defend the United States of America. The people get to decide how their taxpayer dollars are spent. Elon Musk does not get to decide."Elon Musk responded to the Democrats on social media. "The corrupt politicians 'protesting' outside the USAID building are the ones getting money from USAID. That’s why they’re there — they want your stolen tax dollars!" wrote Musk. USAID employs over 10,000 workers and has an annual budget of more than $50 billion. "Shame on them for demonizing Americans who are serving our nation, often in difficult and dangerous places," said Kim on social media. Another video showed Democrats being told to contact the State Department while officers of the Department of Homeland Security kept them out of the building. Like Blaze News?
