Kash Patel clears key confirmation hurdle

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted to advance Kash Patel's nomination to serve as FBI director Thursday morning. Patel's nomination is now headed to the Senate floor.Patel advanced through the committee in a party-line vote with all 12 Republicans voting in favor of the nominee and all 10 Democrats voting against him.'I’ve never seen our law enforcement and intelligence community institutions so badly infected with political decision-making.'Patel has been championed by President Donald Trump and his allies as a much-needed change agent for the bureau that has weaponized its power for political purposes. With Patel's longstanding career in law enforcement and public service, the nominee has been embraced by Republicans. "Mr. Patel, should you be confirmed, you’ll take charge of an FBI in crisis," Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley said in his opening statement during Patel's hearing. "I’ve never seen our law enforcement and intelligence community institutions so badly infected with political decision-making," Grassley added. "They’ve broken faith with 'we the people.' You must be fair, consistent, and aggressive. Your actions must be based on accountability. Should you do so, you’ll have my support."Throughout his hearing, Patel pledged to uphold the Constitution rather than acquiesce to Democrats' preferred application of the law. As a result, several Democrats' lines of questioning turned into heated exchanges. Nevertheless, Patel and his Republican allies remained unmoved by Democrats' frantic accusations.Although Patel has been the subject of heavy scrutiny from Democratic lawmakers, the nominee is expected to pass the Republican-majority Senate. Assuming a party-line vote, Patel can afford to lose three Republican votes, so long as Vice President JD Vance casts his ballot as a tiebreaker.Like Blaze News? Did the FBI help Venezuelan gangs evade ICE?

Did the FBI help Venezuelan gangs evade ICE?

Just as border czar Tom Homan has begun rounding up illegal immigrants to send them back to their home countries, the details for upcoming ICE raids have been leaked to the press — most recently to the Los Angeles Times. “The latest leak from the L.A. times said that federal law enforcement agents are planning to carry out a large-scale immigration enforcement action in the Los Angeles area before the end of February,” Sara Gonzales of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered” says, noting that this was according to an internal government document reviewed by the Times. Essentially, the leak has warned the immigrants that a raid would take place. “Let’s go back to how the recent Denver raids were compromised. ICE was targeting the arrest of over 100 members of, of course, the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Araga, which, remember, didn’t exist, wasn’t a problem, weren’t taking over apartment complexes,” Gonzales says, sarcastic. “Their operation yielded the arrest of just one alleged gang member. Well, how did that happen?” she asks. "Shouldn’t we all be in on removing violent gang members from our country? Like, shouldn’t that be something that maybe the mainstream media, the L.A. Times, the Denver, whatever the hell their newspaper is, shouldn’t we all be bought in on removing violent gang members?” Chicago has also seen a compromised ICE raid, where ICE positioned 100 agents at the targeted positions but made only two arrests. Now, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem believes that the leaks are coming from inside the federal government. “The FBI is so corrupt. We will work with any and every agency to stop leaks and prosecute these crooked deep state agents to the fullest extent of the law,” Noem wrote in a post on social media platform X. Noem isn’t alone in her belief, as border czar Tom Homan also suspects it’s going on within the U.S. government’s walls. “We think it’s coming from inside. And we know the first leak of Aurora is under current investigation; we think we identified that person, under investigation right now. The California leak, Secretary Noem, she’s correct. Some of the information we’ve received tends to lead toward the FBI,” Homan said in an interview on Fox. “But I talked to the deputy attorney general, all this weekend. They’ve opened up a criminal investigation, and they have promised that not only will this person lose her job and lose her pension, they’re going to go to jail. They’re going to criminally prosecute. So we’re all over it,” Homan continued. Gonzales is outraged. “Again, this was a mandate given from the American people in November. We are done with your open borders. We’re done with it. We want these people to go back home. They don’t belong here, they’re not assimilating, they are criminals. Yes, they are criminals. All of them, because if you are here illegally, you are already a criminal,” she says. “So whoever this is should be deported with all the illegals,” she adds. Denver news has to issue correction after claiming illegal immigrant arrested by ICE was no criminal

A local news station in Denver, Colorado, was forced to issue a correction after reporting that an illegal immigrant recently arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement had no criminal record. The correction came after ICE publicly called out KUSA Denver for the false reporting. It started when ICE arrested 41-year-old Victor Manuel Montanez-Jacquez during a recent sweep. Montanez-Jacquez was not the person ICE agents were initially looking for, but when they encountered him as he was getting ready for work and asked for documentation, he did not give a response. The agents were able to determine that he was in the country illegally and took him into custody. KUSA Denver interviewed the Mexican national's family, who said, "His lunch box was just left on the driveway, you know. He was ready for another day at work, and just to go and see that empty lunch box on the driveway, that’s what really hit us." KUSA Denver's headline about the incident stated, "Man without criminal history detained by ICE on his way to work." The headline and initial story were false. 'If we receive answers to our questions from ICE, they often comes days later.' ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations for Denver released a statement explaining that Montanez-Jacquez had illegally entered the United States three times and had pled guilty to driving under the influence in January 2024. "He also had a DUI conviction in 2005 when he was residing in Fort Collins, Colorado," the statement continued. — (@) KUSA Denver host Kyle Clark claimed the station misreported Montanez-Jacquez's criminal status after reporters searched his name in ICE's database and no other criminal convictions came up. It turned out that the state judicial system had spelled his name a different way in its records, leading to the news agency's confident, yet erroneous, reporting. One of the critical errors in KUSA Denver's reporting is that while reporters did reach out to ICE for comment, they did not wait to get a full response, because it sometimes takes days to get one from the agency."We reached out to ICE yesterday morning and received a response yesterday afternoon that getting information may take some time. That's a standard response from ICE. If we receive answers to our questions from ICE, they often comes days later, but yesterday's response from ICE should have been included in our reporting. We apologize that it was not," Clark said.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Senate confirms RFK despite Democrats' desperate attempts to sink the nominee

Senate confirms RFK despite Democrats' desperate attempts to sink the nominee

The Senate confirmed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to head the Department of Health and Human Services on Thursday. Kennedy is the 15th member of President Donald Trump's Cabinet to be confirmed. The Senate confirmed Kennedy in a 52-48 vote, with former Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.) voting against the nominee. McConnell has now opposed three of Trump's nominees, including Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Much to Democrats' dismay, the nominees once thought to be long shots have, one by one, been confirmed to serve in Trump's Cabinet. "President Trump has tapped Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the charge in making America healthy again," Republican Majority Leader John Thune (S.D.) said in a floor speech Tuesday. "He promises to make HHS a collaborative, transparent, and science-driven agency under his leadership.""Our public health agencies do critical work, and I'm a supporter of their research, and I'm proud of the contributions they make to American leadership and medicine and innovation," Thune continued. "But if we're going to Make America Healthy Again, the agencies doing this important work have to rebuild some trust with Americans."In the days leading up to his confirmation, several key Republicans rallied behind Kennedy. Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska endorsed Kennedy just moments after the Senate advanced his nomination on Wednesday. Republican Sen. Susan Collins of Maine also came out in support of the nominee on Tuesday. Notably, both Collins and Murkowski voted against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and have a history of deviating from party-line votes. Although Murkowski and Collins have previously bucked their own party, both senators fell in line and backed Kennedy. Kennedy is the latest of Trump's more contentious nominees to secure his confirmation. The Senate notably confirmed Tulsi Gabbard to serve as director of national intelligence on Wednesday and advanced Kash Patel's nomination to head the FBI on Thursday morning. Much to Democrats' dismay, the nominees once thought to be long shots have, one by one, been confirmed to serve in Trump's Cabinet. Like Blaze News? New England Legends Podcast 383 – Newport’s Mystery Tower

In Episode 383 Jeff Belanger and Ray Auger investigate an ancient stone tower in the heart of Newport, Rhode Island. Some suggest the tower was once an early colonial windmill, others believe maybe it was built by Vikings centuries before Columbus, or maybe it served a more esoteric function as both a solar calendar, or maybe even an ancient camera obscura.
