Israel says it killed Nasrallah's heir apparent

The Israeli military say they killed the cleric tipped to succeed the late Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nasrallah, in an air strike nearly three weeks ago. Hashem Safieddine died in air strikes on the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital, Beirut, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). Hezbollah, a powerful Lebanese Shia Muslim organisation fighting Israel, has not confirmed Safieddine's death. Its previous leader, Nasrallah, was killed by an Israeli air strike on Beirut on...

In a polarized nation, local governments are oases of compromise and community, study finds

Local governments are uniquely able to combat growing national polarization, according to a new study out Wednesday from the nonprofit research organization CivicPulse and the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The study, which involved interviews with more than 1,400 local elected policymakers and local civil service leaders, found that 87% of those surveyed said political polarization negatively affects the country “a great deal” or “a lot.” But just 31% of local officials said...

Trump’s Two-Pronged Play for Normies and Populists

Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign has been a two-pronged effort. Trump, hailed and feared as a populist since he came down the escalator nine years ago, is mostly campaigning to the normies. His friends, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Tucker Carlson, Tulsi Gabbard, Elon Musk, Russell Brand — and, to some degree, J. D. Vance — are running a kind of parallel campaign. They are reaching out to the wild ones, the populist voters whom Trump first electrified, the ones who think the system, in one way...

Trump campaign accuses UK's Labour Party of election interference

Donald Trump's campaign has accused British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's Labour Party of "blatant foreign interference" in the U.S. presidential election after some volunteers travelled to help campaign for Kamala Harris. The Republican candidate's camp has filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission in Washington, calling for an investigation into what it termed apparently illegal contributions from Labour to the Harris campaign.

Trump ex-staffer claims he once praised Hitler’s generals as Obama raps Eminem song at Harris rally

Donald Trump is facing a fresh storm of criticism following a report that he once said he needed “the kind of generals that Adolf Hitler had.” “I need the kind of generals that Hitler had,” the Republican presidential nominee allegedly declared, according to The Atlantic. “People who were totally loyal to him, that follow orders.” The claim has been vehemently denied by Trump’s campaign. Trump’s former chief of staff John Kelly also ...

Harris addresses sexism, abortion, pardoning Trump in NBC interview

Vice President Harris on Tuesday addressed sexism in the 2024 election, along with a host of other topics including the potential to pardon former President Trump and whether she would accept any concessions on abortion access. NBC’s Hallie Jackson pressed Harris on her reluctance to boast about the historic nature of her candidacy as the first potential Black, South Asian and female president. “Well, I’m clearly a woman, I don’t need to point that out to anyone,” Harris said. “The point...
