Former President Donald Trump pondered whether singer-songwriter Taylor Swift is actually liberal. Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh asked Trump about Swift during a November 2023 interview for his forthcoming book, “Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass.” “I think she’s beautiful — very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump. I hear she’s very talented,” Trump said. “I think she’s very beautiful, actually — unusually beautiful!” Variety reported on Monday that Trump also questioned whether Swift has been putting on a show when it comes to her politics. “She is liberal, or is that just an act?” Trump asked Setoodeh. “She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.” When Setoodeh noted that Swift has not released a country album since “Red” in 2012, Trump replied, “Garth Brooks is liberal. Explain that! How does it happen?” Trump opined about Swift in a February post to Truth Social right before the singer showed up at the Super Bowl to watch her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, play in the game. At the time, some “MAGA” enthusiasts speculated that Swift got into a relationship with Kelce as part of a political scheme or “op” in which the music star might endorse President Joe Biden during the Super Bowl or in the months that followed. Trump quipped that there was “no way” Swift could endorse Biden, whom he described as corrupt, “and be disloyal to the man who made her so much money.” He added, “Besides that, I like her boyfriend, Travis, even though he may be a Liberal, and probably can’t stand me!” Swift has yet to back a presidential candidate in the 2024 contest, but she did endorse Biden in the run-up to the 2020 election and shared a photo of herself holding a plate of cookies decorated to show support for the Democrat ticket.

Around six in ten registered voters, including one-third of Democrats, would favor the U.S. government deporting all illegal immigrants, according to a new poll. The CBS News/YouGov poll published on Sunday found that 62% of registered voters support a new national program to deport all illegal immigrants, similar to a plan that has been proposed by former President Donald Trump, who promised to carry out the “largest deportation” operation in American history if he is re-elected. A majority of those surveyed also support giving local law enforcement the power to identify illegal immigrants living in the U.S. The poll surveyed 1,615 registered voters across the U.S. between June 5 and 7 and “oversampled” people in the seven battleground states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. In an interview with Time Magazine earlier this year, Trump said that his massive deportation plans would involve the National Guard. “These aren’t civilians,” Trump said of the illegal immigrants crossing the U.S. southern border in record numbers under President Joe Biden. “These are people that aren’t legally in our country. This is an invasion of our country.” “You have to do what you have to do to stop crime and to stop what’s taking place at the border,” he added. In 2021 — Biden’s first year in office — there were an estimated 10.5 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. Since that time, millions more illegal immigrants have flooded across the border. Customs and Border Protection has reported around eight million southwest land border encounters with illegal immigrants over the past three and a half years. That number doesn’t count “gotaways” who have crossed into the U.S. without detection. Under the Biden administration, there have been an estimated 1.7 million “gotaways,” according to Border Patrol. Among those surveyed by CBS News, 70% said they approve of Biden’s latest action on the border, while 30% disapprove. Trump, however, was the most trusted by those surveyed to decrease illegal border crossings. Seventy percent of respondents said Trump’s policies would decrease crossings, while only 20% said Biden’s policies would do the same. Forty-nine percent of those surveyed said Biden’s policies would increase illegal border crossings. Trump continues to lead Biden in the 2024 presidential race, according to the poll, standing at 50% nationally while Biden came in at 49%.

A judge who previously worked for Planned Parenthood is running for a pivotal spot on the Wisconsin Supreme Court.  Liberal Dane County Circuit Judge Susan Crawford announced her campaign on Monday in a race that will determine the ideological makeup of the state’s highest court. It currently has a 4-3 liberal majority, but Justice Ann Walsh Bradley announced her retirement in April putting control of the court up for grabs next year.  Like many Democrats running for office this year, Crawford appears set to make abortion a key issue of her campaign. The Wisconsin Supreme Court election is in April 2025.  “I am running for Supreme Court justice to protect the basic rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites under our constitution. Those rights are threatened by an all-out effort to politicize the court to drive a right-wing agenda – I believe Wisconsin deserves better,” she said in her campaign announcement. “For the first time in years, we have a majority on the court focused on getting the facts right, following the law, and protecting our constitutional rights. We can’t risk having that progress reversed.” Crawford has extensive ties to Planned Parenthood and was working as the lawyer for the abortion giant’s Wisconsin branch when she ran for Dane County circuit judge in 2018. In 2015, Crawford worked with attorneys from Planned Parenthood to convince a judge to permanently block a pro-life law that imposed restrictions on doctors who performed abortions.  Abortion has been a major issue in Wisconsin after an 1849 law protecting unborn life went into effect when Roe v. Wade was overturned. The law is currently being challenged before the state Supreme Court and has been blocked from being enforced.  In addition to challenging pro-life laws, Crawford has fought against voter ID requirements and Republican-backed public union reform laws.  CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Crawford’s opponent, conservative Waukesha County Circuit Judge Brad Schimel, said she “was handpicked by the leftist majority on the Supreme Court to cement their stranglehold for another three years.” “While I was a frontline prosecutor in the courtroom defending crime victims and putting criminals behind bars, she was working for radical left-wing special interests groups that don’t share our values,” Schimel, previously Wisconsin’s attorney general, said.  Liberals took over the Wisconsin Supreme Court in August after Judge Janet Protasiewicz began her 10-year term on the court. Just months later, the court struck down the state’s legislative maps, ruling that they were heavily gerrymandered and needed to be redrawn. The move is expected to favor Democrats.

Various law enforcement agencies said they did not make any arrests related to the anti-Israel protest on Saturday in which people trashed a park next to the White House. The Secret Service, D.C. police, and U.S. Park Police told The Washington Free Beacon that they did not detain anyone in connection to the demonstration at Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C., that left a number of statues vandalized. As noted by NBC News, police said they attempted to arrest one person who climbed a statue, but that individual got away as members of the crowd intervened and officers deployed pepper spray. Police officers walked out of the park while being followed by some of the protesters as chants of “You have to leave” morphed into “F*** the police,” as shown in video posted to X by reporter Julio Rosas. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP The Washington Post reported that National Park Service staff power-washed sculptures on Sunday and an agency spokesperson said that “notable damage includes graffiti, damage to some structures and damage to park infrastructure in Lafayette Park.” Several lawmakers, particularly Republicans, responded with outrage to images of the statues being covered in spray paint with messages such as “Free Gaza” before crews had cleaned them up. “This is the disgusting, disgraceful behavior we’ve come to expect from terrorist sympathizers,” said Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), who is a contender to become former President Donald Trump’s running mate this election cycle.

Taxpayers are funding a new high-rise building in Los Angeles where homeless people will enjoy skyline views, a cafe, a gym, and an art studio, not to mention the free rent. The fancy new building is 19 stories high and has 278 units, each costing about $600,000. The total cost was $165 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. It is the first of three new high-rise buildings that will soon house homeless people. The building, reportedly the biggest permanent supportive housing project in the city, is set to open this month. It will take in homeless residents from Skid Row below, the infamous Los Angeles neighborhood where homeless people have thronged for decades despite many efforts to clean up the area. The tower includes a gym, an art room, a soundproofed music room, a computer room with a library, a TV lounge, six common balconies, four of which have dog runs, a courtyard, and a cafe that will host movie nights. Each apartment has its own TV as well. The project is funded by the city’s supportive housing loan program, Proposition HHH, which was approved by city voters in 2016, as well as state housing funds and $56 million in state tax credits. The man behind the new buildings is Kevin Murray, a former California state senator who is president and chief executive of the Weingart Center, a nonprofit that assists homeless people. “We’re trying to make our little corner of the world look and feel a little better,” Murray told the Times. The three new homeless apartment buildings will be situated around the nonprofit’s headquarters. The second building will have 302 units, and the third will have 104 units. Altogether, about 700 homeless people will occupy the three buildings. The first building’s commercial kitchen will also serve the 600-bed homeless shelter next door. The idea behind the new buildings is to isolate homeless residents from Skid Row’s bad influences on the street. Outside, tents line the sidewalks, and rampant drug addiction and crime plague the neighborhood. The project is already facing criticism. Estela Lopez, executive director of the Downtown Industrial Business Improvement District, a nonprofit that advocates for the property and business owners, employees, and residents of downtown Los Angeles, said she thinks concentrating extreme poverty is bad policy, although she added that the new building is a “campus of hope for those souls who will reside there.”

As President Joe Biden falls into the lowest approval ratings of his term, statistician and FiveThirtyEight founder Nate Silver floated Biden dropping out of the race as the best option for Democrats just five months before the 2024 election. Biden’s approval rating hit an all-time low in recent days, according to FiveThirtyEight‘s average of polls, as the president now has a 37.6% approval rating. The downward trend for Biden prompted Silver to post on X on Monday that the 81-year-old president dropping out of the race is worth discussing — even if, at this point, it “would be a big risk” for Democrats. “But there’s some threshold below which continuing to run is a bigger risk,” he added. “Are we there yet? I don’t know. But it’s more than fair to ask.” “If I’d told you 10 years ago a president would seek re-election at 81 despite a supermajority of Americans having concerns about his age, and then we’d hit 8% inflation for 2 years, you wouldn’t be surprised he was an underdog for reelection. You’d be surprised it was even close!” Silver wrote. One X user criticized Silver for asking if Biden should drop out after Donald Trump was convicted of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in the New York hush money case. “‘Trump should drop out too!’ is such a weird dunk on people who are pointing out that Biden has big challenges,” Silver shot back. “Yes, Trump should drop out! I agree! Biden would lose by 7 points, but I agree, the Republican Party and the country would be better served by a different nominee.” But Biden just hit a new all-time low in approval (37.4%) at 538 yesterday. The presumptive GOP presidential nominee currently leads Biden in each of the seven battleground states, according to the RealClearPolitics average of polls.
