Federal judge rips into LA officials over lack of oversight on $2.4 billion spent on homelessness: 'I am your worst nightmare'

A federal judge excoriated officials who were unable to account for $2.4 billion in taxpayer funds meant to go toward solving homelessness in Los Angeles. U.S. District Court Judge David Carter threatened to appoint a court-ordered receiver if officials didn't improve their efforts to account for the money spent, according to an LAist report. 'We pay your bills. Figure this out.' The city leaders who faced Carter's wrath at a hearing in downtown Los Angeles included Democrat Mayor Karen Bass, L.A. County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger, City Controller Kenneth Mejia, and City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson. Carter's criticism focused on the Los Angeles Homeless Services Agency, which he said failed to track the money for years and did not hold contractors accountable for the funds they received, despite numerous audits over more than a decade. “This is a slow train wreck,” he told them. "Nobody is asking our providers what they did or what services they performed. We may have providers who committed fraud, and we may never know. We may have providers that provided excellent services, and we'll never know," said Carter. "If we're so short on money, why aren't these providers being sued?" he asked. "These parties owe you that money. Are they waiting for us to get senile or die? Go and get that money."Mayor Bass was also criticized for refusing to allow an audit of her "Inside Safe" initiative by the city controller. The city attorney argued that it was improper for the controller to audit the mayor's program without her consent. The controller cited the city charter to say that an audit was fully within the power of his office. “Folks, you've got to solve this, or else the court is going to step in,” Carter warned. Bass tried to argue that more needed to be done about homelessness but that those efforts needed to be focused on the needs of the people rather than focusing "on the administration." “We pay your bills. Figure this out," Carter responded. The judge gave them until May to fulfill their responsibilities or have a receiver take over the spending. While he acknowledged that they had inherited a "mess" from former officials, Carter demanded that they take accountibility.“I am your worst nightmare,” Carter told them. “I can make your lives miserable.”Officials are considering ending the LAHSA, but the mayor has said she opposes the suggestion. From 'The Decision' to billionaire: Is LeBron James really a victim?

During LeBron James’ appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show” last Wednesday, the Lakers power forward addressed leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for the Miami Heat in 2010 – an event widely known as “The Decision.” This move, LeBron argued, is the origin of the narrative that labeled him a villain. “I'm doing everything I need to do on the court; I'm not out in the streets; I'm not being caught in all the bulls*** that doesn't respect the game and respect my craft,” he said. Despite his squeaky clean record, the second he “decided to go on TV and make a decision for [his] career,” the media pounced on him, acting as if it “made a little chink in the armor.” It’s been downhill since then. That’s his narrative anyway. Jason Whitlock and “Fearless” guest TJ Moe say LeBron is just playing the victim card. “He has never been a victim,” says Moe. He points to the fact that LeBron is not only a billionaire, but in high school, he signed a $90 million contract with Nike that allowed him to move his mom out of the hood, where he claims he grew up. While Jason agrees that the media’s condemnation of “The Decision” in no way victimized LeBron James, he does acknowledge some potential victimization in the athlete’s life. “He didn't know his father; his mother had substance abuse problems ... doesn't that make him some sort of a victim?” he asks. “Well, then we’re all a victim of something, right?” counters Moe, who speculates that LeBron very well could’ve gotten in lots of legal trouble, but we’d “likely never know about it” because there’s too many people who would cover for “the golden child.” “He's one of the most privileged people to ever exist, so I'll never buy the victimhood narrative,” he tells Jason. As far as money goes, Jason agrees that LeBron is no victim: “He's been rich far longer than he's been poor,” he says. But can a case still be made that LeBron has experienced some level of victimization? To hear more of the conversation, watch the clip above. LA sheriff's stations to protest 'wrongful and politically charged prosecution' of deputy

Nearly two dozen sheriff's stations affiliated with Los Angeles County will boycott a popular law enforcement event in protest of the prosecution of one of their own.At least 20 L.A. County sheriff's stations — including Santa Clarita, West Hollywood, two detention centers, and the Training Bureau — have pledged to boycott the 2025 Baker to Vegas relay scheduled for April 5 and 6. The event — during which teams travel 120 miles between Baker, California, and Las Vegas, Nevada — is described as "the world’s most prestigious and unique law enforcement foot race."These sheriff's station employees are disgusted with what the Los Angeles Sheriff's Professional Association called the "wrongful and politically charged prosecution" of Deputy Trevor Kirk, an Army veteran and father of two.'Kirk deployed pepper spray — a mild, department-approved tool — after a takedown to gain compliance, avoiding lethal force like a gun, or Taser.'Back in June 2023, Kirk and another deputy responded to a call about a possible robbery involving a man and a woman at a supermarket. A source connected with the LASPA told Blaze News that at least the female had been "caught in the act."The deputies encountered a couple in the parking lot who matched a description of the suspects. The deputies first placed the male suspect in handcuffs while the female suspect, Jacy Huseton, recorded on her cell phone. Kirk then allegedly attempted to take her phone before grabbing her by the arm, hooking his hand behind her neck, and throwing her "violently" to the ground, "face first," a DOJ statement said.Afterward, Kirk allegedly placed a knee on the woman's shoulder, at which point she began hollering phrases often associated with George Floyd and Eric Garner, who both died during encounters with law enforcement. "Get your neck [sic] off my … off my … I can’t breathe," she said, according to the DOJ.Kirk then pepper-sprayed her twice in the face, the DOJ said. Huseton was later treated for injuries related to the pepper spray and the impact of forcing her to the ground.'It doesn't happen to white folks like this.'The LASPA offered a different version of events. According to a press release from the deputies' union given to Blaze News, "Kirk deployed pepper spray — a mild, department-approved tool — after a takedown to gain compliance, avoiding lethal force like a gun, or Taser. He immediately called for medical assistance, per protocol."Bodycam footage of the incident can be seen below: — (@) Video of the encounter went viral, and activists quickly sided with Huseton as an alleged victim of racially motivated police brutality."The day of the incident, I thought that I was going to be killed," she said at a press conference about a lawsuit she filed a few weeks after the incident."He tried to kill me … and for what? Because I was taking a picture or trying to take a video of possibly some misconduct on an African-American male.""It doesn't happen to white folks like this," her attorney, Caree Harper, insisted at the time, "and we're not gonna have it happening to black folks like this."Neither Huseton nor her male companion were charged in connection with the alleged robbery, which some outlets have downplayed as a possible "shoplifting." However, just last month, Kirk was convicted of one federal count of deprivation of rights under color of law and is scheduled to be sentenced on April 21. He faces up to 10 years in prison. The LASPA views his conviction as a "travesty" and a vicious miscarriage of justice. "If officers can be prosecuted for lawful duty, no one wearing a badge is safe," the union said in the press release.Participants in the Baker to Vegas boycott hope that their protest will shine a brighter spotlight on what they see as an unjust prosecution. They're also offering an alternative event that will raise money for his family.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Internet meltdown: 3 teen sisters try to stab mother to death for turning off Wi-Fi, assault grandmother

Three teen sisters in Texas are accused of trying to stab their mother to death because she turned off the Wi-Fi, according to authorities. Deputies and detectives with the Harris County Sheriff's Office responded on Sunday night to a "disturbance" at a residence in the Barkers Branch neighborhood, a suburb outside Houston, Texas. "They've always been known for trouble in this neighborhood, and our neighbors tell us the same thing."Officers found a mother who had allegedly been assaulted by her three teen children, ages 14, 15, and 16. "The three siblings allegedly coordinated a plan to try and kill the mother," Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said in a statement. "Because the mother turned off the Wi-Fi, all three grabbed kitchen knives and chased her throughout the house and into the street, attempting to stab her."Police said one of the three girls threw a brick at the 39-year-old mother and hit the adult female in the ankle, according to ABC News.During the melee, the 70-year-old grandmother of the children was reportedly assaulted and knocked to the ground while she was attempting to protect the alleged victim.Thankfully, the mother and grandmother did not suffer any serious injuries, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.Meanwhile, the three female siblings were arrested. The three teen sisters were charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. All three teens were booked in the Harris County Juvenile Detention Center. All three of the suspects were not named because they are all underage. An anonymous neighbor told KRIV-TV that the family is "known" for disturbances. "They've always been known for trouble in this neighborhood, and our neighbors tell us the same thing," the neighbor said."It's always cops around that house," the neighbor alleged. The unnamed neighbor said the incident is "so crazy." The neighbor described the family as "unstable" and added that it is "very sad for them."You can watch a KRIV-TV newscast about the three siblings attempting to stab their mother with kitchen knives and the interview with the neighbor here.
