Aw man. First Dusty Hill. Now Charlie. ?
As a bit of a musician myself an' havin' been a kid when Charlie an' the boys hit the airwaves this is sad news. Just Mick an' Keef left still in the band. If band there will be now.
There were a few opening hooks, usually guitar, that grabbed my attention as a kid back then and inspired me later on to learn to play music.
I distinctly recall how cool the openin' drum riff with the cow bell on "Honky Tonk Women" sounded to me as it STILL excites me when I hear it. The perfect intro to Keef's simple guitar riff before Mick comes in. My favorite part of the song, that whole drum then guitar intro.
Charlie was a fine drummer. Like Ringo for the Beatles Charlie was the right man for his band. And like Ringo, rock solid in timing an' instinct.
RIP, Charlie Watts
