Manifest Destiny: Why The US Must Buy Greenland

Why Greenland? Donald Trump isn’t looking to capture Greenland from Denmark militarily, but he won’t rule out anything. Reporters keep asking him to rule out things; he won’t answer those questions and shouldn’t. As Donald Trump said, he wants to protect Greenland as Russia and China move in. He also wants to make use of […] The post Manifest Destiny: Why The US Must Buy Greenland appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Actress Suggests Networks Not Air Awards Shows, Donate To Fire Victims Instead

Award-winning actress Jean Smart believes that upcoming award shows should not be broadcast and networks should use the money to aid fire victims in California instead.  The 73-year-old star, who just took home the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy at the awards ceremony on Sunday for her role in “Hacks,” shared her thoughts in an Instagram post Wednesday night.  “Attention! With ALL due respect, during Hollywood’s season of celebration, I hope any of the networks televising the upcoming awards will seriously consider NOT televising them and donating the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters,” the celebrity shared with her followers.   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Jean Smart (@realjeansmart) Smart didn’t specify which shows she was referring to. In the next few months, the Academy Awards, the Critics Choice Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards are all scheduled to air. The ongoing wildfires in California have already affected those shows. The SAG Awards canceled their live nominations and opted to release the list of nominees via a press release Wednesday morning. A spokesperson announced that the voting deadline for the Academy Awards was postponed two days from January 12 to January 14, while the nominations announcements will be made on January 19 rather than January 17. JOIN THE MOVEMENT IN ’25 WITH 25% OFF DAILYWIRE+ ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS WITH CODE DW25 The Critics Choice Awards ceremony moved from January 12 to January 26. The NHL also postponed Wednesday night’s game between the Los Angeles Kings and the Calgary Flames, while the NFL said they will “closely monitor” the fires to determine the status of Monday night’s playoffs game between the LA Rams and Minnesota Vikings, which is scheduled to take place at SoFi Stadium. Many Hollywood premieres have been canceled due to the fires, including the planned Tuesday night premieres of the films “Unstoppable” and “Wolf Man,” and the Wednesday premieres of “Better Man” and “The Pitt,” as The Daily Wire previously reported. Dozens of Hollywood stars were forced to evacuate their homes in the area and many have since posted on social media about losing their homes in the fires. James Woods, Mark Hamill, Mandy Moore, Ricki Lake, Paris Hilton, Billy Crystal, Melissa Rivers, Spencer Pratt, Cary Elwes, and others posted on social media about losing their homes as the wildfires continue to burn.

EXCLUSIVE: Pro-Life Accounts Demand Meta Lift Suspensions After Free Speech Promises

Several pro-life Facebook users are demanding their accounts be restored after Meta promised this week to support free speech on its platform. In a letter obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire, the legal counsel for LifeNews and its founder Steven Ertelt, as well as pro-life mother Abby Covington, requested Meta “immediately” restore their disabled accounts. “If Meta is truly committed to the free-speech principles that it recently announced, it will act swiftly to reinstate Mr. Ertelt’s, LifeNews’s, and Mrs. Covington’s accounts,” reads the letter from their legal team at Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF). In May, Ertelt found his Facebook account had been permanently disabled after he posted a video showing a doctor performing a C-section. During the procedure, the unborn child can be seen grabbing the doctor’s finger. “An unborn baby can’t be just a clump of cells when he or she is grabbing the doctor’s hand,” read the video’s caption. Facebook permanently disabled Ertelt’s account and informed him the post failed to follow its Community Standards on “child sexual exploitation,” his attorneys said. Because LifeNews used Ertelt’s Facebook account to create the LifeNews Instagram account, the group’s Instagram account is effectively permanently suspended as well. “These account suspensions have caused serious harm to Mr. Ertelt and LifeNews,” the ADF attorneys wrote in their letter to Meta. Covington, the Christian pro-life mother of three, had her Facebook account permanently suspended after she posted about her family’s adoption journey. In her post, she described her family’s Christian faith and encouraged expecting mothers to reach out if they were thinking about putting their baby up for adoption. “We believe children are a gift from the Lord,” she wrote. “God has given us the desire to support an expecting mother who will choose life for her baby through the gift of adoption! We love our children, and our prayer is to expand our family while providing a safe & loving home.” Covington received a barrage of hateful messages after her post was shared in a private group, prompting her to delete it. One user wrote, “I’m adopted and I’d s*** in your mouth out of spite while you were asleep if I’d been raised that way.” Facebook then informed her that her account did not follow its Community Standards on “human exploitation,” her attorneys said. The platform disabled her Instagram account as well as all of her Facebook accounts, including the one for her jewelry, skincare, and makeup business. JOIN THE MOVEMENT IN ’25 WITH 25% OFF DAILYWIRE+ ANNUAL MEMBERSHIPS WITH CODE DW25 “The animus-filled messages that Mrs. Covington received from other Facebook users were understandably distressing,” the ADF attorneys wrote in their letter to Meta. “But what is most distressing to her is Facebook’s decision to permanently disable all six of her accounts, causing her significant financial and personal harm.” The ADF attorneys accused Meta of violating its free speech standards, breaching its own terms of service, and failing to uphold its promises. They requested the company respond to their request to reinstate the pro-life accounts by January 22. “These situations provide a litmus test for whether Meta will live up to its public announcement or continue to censor and restrict the marketplace of ideas,” the legal team wrote. “Facebook needs to keep the momentum going. If Zuckerberg wants to make a real impact related to censorship, he must immediately stop the weaponization of its content standards against pro-life groups like LifeNews. No group should be silenced for expressing their political or religious views on the platform. Meta’s promise to uphold free speech starts here,” Jeremy Tedesco, ADF’s senior counsel and senior vice president of corporate engagement said in a statement. On Tuesday, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg released a video announcing sweeping changes to his company’s content moderation policies, promising “more speech and fewer mistakes.” “In recent years we’ve developed increasingly complex systems to manage content across our platforms, partly in response to societal and political pressure to moderate content. This approach has gone too far,” Meta said. “We want to fix that and return to that fundamental commitment to free expression,” the company said. Meta said it will end its third-party fact-checking program and move to a Community Notes model similar to what X, formerly Twitter, does. The company also said it will be “getting rid of a number of restrictions on topics like immigration, gender identity and gender that are the subject of frequent political discourse and debate” and it will also recommend more political content if a user has indicated they are interested. Meta has been fiercely criticized in recent years for censoring political content such as the Hunter Biden laptop story, which broke just before the 2020 election. READ THE ADF’S LETTER TO META HERE

Heroes: Firefighter Jumps Fence In Daring California Wildfire Rescue

Early Wednesday morning, a wildfire began in the Los Angeles area. Since then, four more wildfires have erupted, making this the most destructive wildfire in LA history. As of the writing of this article, well over 25,000 acres are affected, most of which are 0% contained. Roughly 179,000 people are under evacuation orders. Amidst the chaos, local California firefighters are doing their best to rescue everyone they can from these deadly fires. This includes our animal friends, too. This can be seen in a recent video captured by NBC News reporter Gadi Schwartz. While reporting on these deadly fires, he found himself with a group of firefighters. As they worked to put out the nearby fires, they noticed a horse. It seemed as though the animal was stuck, so the heroic first responders swooped in to help. @nbcnews NBC News' @gadischwartz captured the moment a firefighter hopped a fence to retrieve a stuck horse and safely secure it while fighting a #wildfire in #California ♬ original sound – nbcnews California Firefighters Help Rescue a Horse During the Worst Fire in LA’s History Getting closer, it seemed that the horse was stuck on a fence. In order to free it, the firefighter had to jump that very fence. But that didn’t cause this heroic firefighter to second guess if the horse was worth his time. In fact, once he freed the horse, the firefighters took the time to get him to a safer location. While the area is enclosed, the firefighter insists that the horse will be much safer there. This is true, in part, because he’s surrounded by decomposed granite. This material is not flammable, making it a great material for firebreaks. “Firefighters are a blessing to this world,” someone shares in the comment section of this rescue video, with another adding, “Poor baby, thank you for helping him.” “Poor baby, I’m sure the owners weren’t able to get to it in time,” a third person points out. “A lot of people were blocked off from getting to their animals, which makes me very sad.” You can find the source of this story’s featured image here! Kristen Bell Is Helping Families In Desperate Need To Cover Their Medical Expenses

In a world where many Americans can’t afford medical treatment, one celebrity is helping raise money for families in need. Actress Kristen Bell is increasing the reach of individual GoFundMe pages by sharing them with her fans. She’s also putting some of her own money toward these fundraisers. This is part of a larger effort, led by content creator Tommy Marcus, to shed some much-needed light on patients who wouldn’t be able to access treatment otherwise. It all started when Marcus, aka Quentin Quarantino, reached out to the Veronica Mars star with an idea. Using his influence as an internet celebrity, he planned to share one online fundraiser every day with his followers. However, working with Kristen Bell would allow him to reach more people than he could on his own. So, he proposed a collaboration. “I had this idea to harness this public energy around the broken healthcare system by sharing one health related GoFundMe every day for a week+ and changing the life of one family per day,” Marcus wrote in a DM to the actress, a screenshot of which was shared on Instagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Quentin Quarantino (@quentin.quarantino) He continued, “I get so many tragic health insurance related GoFundMes sent to me per week. Was wondering if you’d be interested in joining along starting tomorrow.” Kristen Bell was eager to help, but she wanted to do even more. Although Kristen Bell agreed to share these GoFundMe pages with her fans, the actress wanted to do more to help. She messaged the content creator that she wanted to donate $100,000 of her own money to families in need. Thrilled, Marcus came up with a great plan to distribute the Frozen star’s generous donation. A screenshot of this conversation was included in the same Instagram post. “How about this — every fundraiser I post, once it hits half the goal, you close it out with the second half until we reach $100k spent on your end,” he suggested. As Marcus told People, Bell’s response to his initial proposal far exceeded his wildest dreams. “I first reached out to Kristen with the meager hope she might share one of my fundraising posts, like she frequently does,” he said. “I never imagined she’d respond with a $100,000 pledge to help me and the QQ community achieve change — that she’d respond not with a quick answer, but a real question: How can we use this money to do good?” Bell’s reasoning? “Something needs to be done, and this is my something,” she told People. Another famous actor was inspired to get involved with this project. Motivated by the work that Tommy Marcus and Kristen Bell have been doing, Matt Damon decided to get involved, too! He messaged the actress to offer a $100,000 donation from himself and his wife, Lucy. Marcus and Bell shared a screenshot from the conversation on Instagram. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Quentin Quarantino (@quentin.quarantino) As Marcus shared in a social media post, he realizes that GoFundMe pages are not a permanent solution to the issues with the American healthcare system. Ideally, families wouldn’t have to turn to crowdfunding just to afford medical care. “We should not have to raise and give money in order for Americans to receive life saving medical treatment, but sadly, this is the reality,” he wrote. “We can’t let people do this on their own when so many of us can help. Until we can change the system, this is the reality. And we can be the helpers.” You can find the source of this story’s featured images here and here.
