Over 40 years, experimenters watched as hundreds of Black Americans went blind, suffered from organ failure, and died of a treatable disease.

Today's Highlights: What MRC's Media Watchdogs Are Saying

MRC Watchdogs churn out breaking news on a daily basis. Don't miss Today's Highlights, where you can keep up with the top MRC content, whether it's the latest study on media bias, a glaring omission from the elitist media, or how the Big Tech companies are serving up the same leftist spin as the media.  Top Stories: Media’s 20 Worst Anti-Trump Quotes From His First Year Back In Office FINALLY: ‘60 Minutes’ Airs CECOT Story. Cue the Elitist Media Meltdown Sunday Shows Mostly Enable Jacob Frey’s ‘Love’ and ‘Resistance’ Shtick Only 4 of 840 Stories: Google News’s Six-Week Blockade of Minn Fraud   Media’s 20 Worst Anti-Trump Quotes From His First Year Back In Office Media Hysteria Equates Trump to Fascists and Dictators from Day One: Outlets like ABC's The View and MSNBC immediately compared Trump's inauguration and early actions to Hitler's rise, rating his first week as "peak fascism," and labeled him an authoritarian consolidating a dictatorship, framing routine policies as existential threats to democracy. Accusations of Racism, Ethnic Cleansing, and Retribution Fuel Division: Commentators on PBS, podcasts, and CNN accused Trump of scapegoating non-whites, promoting "remigration" as ethnic cleansing, embodying America's "sins" like greed, and pursuing a "retribution campaign" against enemies, while blaming him for violence and human rights abuses. Calls for Impeachment and Skepticism of U.S. Survival Under Trump: Figures on SiriusXM, ABC, and MSNBC urged weekly impeachments starting "one minute" into his term, predicted he would rig elections or refuse to leave power, warned of deaths from policy changes, and expressed doubt the country would "survive" his leadership, portraying his supporters as "blood-lusting psychotics." FINALLY: ‘60 Minutes’ Airs CECOT Story. Cue the Elitist Media Meltdown Bari Weiss Was Right to Pull and Fix the Biased Original Report — The initial 60 Minutes segment on El Salvador's CECOT megaprison — where the Trump administration deported 252 Venezuelan men suspected of gang ties — was heavily slanted, relying on sympathetic detainee interviews, far-left human rights sources like Human Rights Watch, false claims of no administration response, and even Berkeley students, while ignoring provided White House, State Department, and DHS comments. Weiss correctly demanded balance and additional reporting, preventing a one-sided hit piece from airing prematurely. Revisions Added Crucial Context Without Destroying the Story — After the controversy and leak, the finally aired January 18, 2026, version included a reworked opening tying into Nicolás Maduro's capture, a closing addendum with DHS intelligence on deportees' criminal backgrounds (Tren de Aragua and MS-13 links), administration statements defending the policy as removing threats to Americans, and refusals to share sensitive intel. This proved the original lacked fairness, and the fixes enhanced viewer understanding rather than censoring the report. Elitist Media Howls Over Basic Journalism Standards — Despite the improvements and no collapse of free speech or the Republic, expect ongoing outrage from "media morality clerics" who cried censorship when Weiss held the piece (sparking internal backlash, including a "whiny" all-hands email from correspondent Sharyn Alfonsi). This exposes ongoing partisan hackery at CBS/60 Minutes, where demanding balance from anti-Trump stories triggers meltdowns, highlighting how legacy media resents accountability under new leadership. Sunday Shows Mostly Enable Jacob Frey’s ‘Love’ and ‘Resistance’ Shtick Sunday Shows Mostly Let Frey's "Love and Resistance" Narrative Slide Hosts on CNN, ABC, and NBC gave Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey free rein to frame ICE operations as an "invading force" and sanctuary defiance as acts of "love," with soft questions that reinforced his "siege" storyline and rarely challenged his inflammatory rhetoric. Only CBS's Brennan Provided Any Real Pushback Margaret Brennan on Face the Nation called Frey's "occupying force" label "a bit much," questioned sanctuary policies, and pressed on risks from AG Ellison's transparency demands—making her the lone host who even mildly scrutinized his narrative. Media Protects Frey's Shtick Over Holding Obstruction Accountable With scant exceptions, legacy outlets showed little interest in confronting Frey's dangerous language or the unrest it fuels, preferring to amplify "resistance" talking points rather than demand answers on legal obstruction or potential violence in Minnesota Only 4 of 840 Stories: Google News’s Six-Week Blockade of Minn Fraud Extreme Blackout on Major Scandal Over six weeks (Nov. 28–Jan. 9), Google News featured just 4 stories on the exploding Minnesota fraud scandal out of 840 total in its top 20 morning editions—less than 0.5% coverage—effectively burying widespread allegations of fraud tied to Gov. Tim Walz's administration. Ideological Gatekeeping Exposed None of the four stories came from right-leaning sources; three instead vilified Trump administration enforcement actions, while Google delayed coverage (e.g., four-day lag after a New York Times exposé) and placed pieces on low-traffic days like Dec. 30 and Jan. 1 to minimize visibility. Digital Suppression with Real-World Impact Despite escalating developments—including dozens of arrests, federal probes, viral videos, 2,000+ agent deployments, and Walz suspending his re-election bid—Google News acted as a "digital gatekeeper," throttling information that could have informed millions and potentially influenced political outcomes.

Progressive Utopias: Why Communes Collapse (And How Capitalism Saves Them)

“Replace the frigidity of rugged individualism with the warmth of collectivism!” says my new socialist mayor. Sounds so nice ... No more greedy capitalists hoarding wealth. People share. It’s the socialist dream. What will replace capitalism and individualism? One model is the commune - that socialist system where people share, rather than greedily chasing money. In my new video, TikTokers claim capitalism is “ending.” They sing about the beauty of communes. One asks, desperately, “Where is my commune?!” Good question. They’re hard to find because they keep failing. One of the most famous was founded in 1825 In New Harmony, Indiana. Private property was banned and residents shared everything. The result? After just two years, most residents left. Today, New Harmony is a tourist attraction, meant to “inspire progressive thought,” says the assistant director of the expensively renovated site. “It just has some magic here.” But New Harmony’s magic only exists today because a nepo baby poured her rich father’s money into it. Robert Blaffer started Humble Oil, which became ExxonMobil. After his death, his daughter spent millions of her father’s dollars turning the failed commune into an expensive museum. The “magic” tourists experience in New Harmony comes from capitalism, the only system that creates lasting wealth. The “warmth of collectivism” fails again and again. It’s failing now in Cuba, North Korea, Nicaragua and Venezuela. It was tried and abandoned in the Soviet Union, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Angola, Mozambique, Benin, the Congo, Somalia, Grenada and Cambodia. Even China and Vietnam’s leaders, to allow their countries to prosper, felt they had to give up pure socialism and allow private property and capitalism.      But my new mayor still wants to give “the warm of collectivism” a shot. If he were my age, he would have been a hippie. Hippie communes were popular then. One in Tennessee called The Farm forbade members to have their own money or property. Everyone shared everything. “Mothers would nurse each other’s babies -- other parents would take care of you ... “ said a former member. “If you want to become a member of the community,” warned The Farm’s lawyer, “you got to put everything you have in the pot. We’re doing this for a lifetime!” But they couldn’t do it for a lifetime. They couldn’t even keep it for a dozen years. There just wasn’t enough money, says the commune’s bookkeeper: “Everybody was saying ... there’s not enough food, not enough vegetables, not enough diapers, shoes. All things the children needed.” Only when the commune allowed members to own things, and keep profit from their labor, was The Farm able to survive. Residents now say, “We’re not socialists anymore. We have our own money.” New York’s Oneida Community was founded as a free-love, socialist commune, where “every man in the community was essentially married to every woman and all the property was shared.” But Oneida survives today only because they dropped socialism and became capitalists, selling expensive Oneida silverware. Likewise, an Iowa commune, Amana Colonies, survives because they abandoned socialism to sell appliances. Some Americans (falsely) think Israeli communes, Kibbutzim, succeeded. But they mostly failed, despite getting heavy taxpayer subsidies. Why? Yaron Brook of the Ayn Rand Institute explains, “People envied one another ... and treated one another really, really bad. It’s obvious why. Some people worked hard. Others didn’t. Yet they had exactly the same.” The surviving few Kibbutzim are capitalist. Members own property and earn their own money. The “warmth of collectivism” doesn’t last. But socialists never admit that their communes fail. “Because to them it’s a moral ideal!” says Brook. “Moral striving for the good, even though it’s a complete disaster and a complete failure everywhere and anywhere it is tried.” No matter what my new mayor and other “progressives” say, the only thing that works -- the only thing that really makes life better for people -- is private ownership and capitalism. Every Tuesday at JohnStossel.com, Stossel posts a new video about the battle between government and freedom. He is the author of “Government Gone Wild: Exposing the Truth Behind the Headlines.”

'How low can they go?' Maryland Democrat seeks to punish Trump-era ICE agents for doing their job

Democrats have made no secret of their contempt for the men and women of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement who daily put their lives at risk to keep dangerous criminal noncitizens off American streets.Evidently keen to go beyond just demonizing ICE agents, a Maryland Democrat has proposed legislation that would deny them future jobs in the crime-ridden state's enforcement agencies.Adrian Boafo, a Democrat member of Maryland's House of Delegates who is currently running for Congress, proposed legislation earlier this month titled the "ICE Breaker Act of 2026," aimed at punishing "those who are motivated to support this Administration's immigration policies and principles by joining ICE."'The ICE Breaker Act of 2026 is an unserious, frankly stupid bill.'"Under Donald Trump, Steven Miller [sic] and Kristi Noem, ICE has ceased to function as a lawful and legitimate law enforcement agency," said Boafo. "Instead it operates as a lawless and unconstitutional paramilitary operation.""Accordingly, this bill prevents individuals who chose to join ICE after January 20, 2025 in support of this administration's immigration agenda from serving in trusted law-enforcement positions within Maryland state government," added Boafo, who claimed elsewhere that ICE agents are neither trained nor qualified to serve as police. The Department of Homeland Security recently indicated that ICE received over 220,000 applications and hired well over 10,000 new officers over the past year, doubling the number of personnel from 10,000 to roughly 22,000.Boafo, the son of Ghanaian immigrants, will reportedly formally introduce the bill when the General Assembly reconvenes this week and has promised to introduce similar legislation in Congress if elected in the midterms.RELATED: 'You are on notice!' Don Lemon backs anti-ICE radicals who stormed Saint Paul church — but DOJ vows reckoning Adrian Boafo. Photo by Eric Lee/Washington Post/Getty ImagesThe proposed legislation has been condemned by various officials in the state.Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler suggested Boafo's bill was "another poorly thought out piece of legislation and one motivated purely by political purposes."Gahler told WBFF-TV that ICE agents "have a legitimate law enforcement mission to fulfill, and this delegate wants to punish them for taking an oath of office and doing the job they are constitutionally sworn to do.""How sad can Maryland's legislature — how low can they go?" said Gahler. "The hate, the Trump derangement syndrome would be the basis."Betsy Smith, spokeswoman for the National Police Association, underscored that contrary to Boafo's suggestion, ICE agents have to undergo strict scrutiny and relevant testing in order to join state law enforcement agencies."It sounds as though this politician wants people to believe that an ICE agent can just come into their town and tomorrow be a patrol officer," Smith told WBFF. "It's simply ridiculous."Smith further stressed that it is "ridiculous to not hire ICE agents during a police understaffing crisis.""This is a dumb idea," Republican Del. Kathy Szeliga told the Washington Post. "Law enforcement hiring should be based on the training, experience, and conduct of the candidate, not a partisan litmus test tied to some president you don't like."Maryland House Minority Leader Jason Buckel (R) cast doubt on the legality of the proposed legislation and suggested it was "not worthy of serious consideration."Republican Del. Matt Morgan emphasized the discriminatory nature of the proposed hiring ban, writing, "What about ICE agents hired under Biden or Obama? The ICE Breaker Act of 2026 is an unserious, frankly stupid bill for the purpose of political pandering."Despite its vilification by Boafo and other Maryland Democrats, ICE has worked overtime to make the state safer. For instance, earlier this month, ICE arrested Oscar Miguel Argueta-Del Cid, an illegal alien from El Salvador who was convicted of sexually abusing a minor in Montgomery County, and last month ICE arrested Kevin Alexis Mendex-Ortiz, a criminal noncitizen from Honduras who caused a head-on collision in Prince George's County that sent an American citizen to hospital with life-threatening injuries.Blaze News has reached out to the Department of Homeland Security for comment.Like Blaze News? Musk drops $10 million to help MAGA candidate replace 'trash Trump' Mitch McConnell

The richest man in the world has made a hefty donation to a pro-Trump Republican looking to take over the Kentucky U.S. Senate seat occupied by Mitch McConnell for 40 years, Axios has reported..Last week, billionaire businessman Elon Musk donated $10 million to the Fight for Kentucky super PAC, which supports the candidacy of Nate Morris, founder of waste and recycling giant Rubicon.Axios implied that the Musk-Morris connection may have come about because of Vice President JD Vance.Morris has billed himself as a MAGA warrior and the antithesis of McConnell. In a scathing campaign video titled "Garbage Day," Morris suggests that McConnell is a "trash Trump" "career politician" who has been "dumping" on Americans and Kentuckians in particular for decades."We've let the garbage pile up in Washington, D.C., for far too long. I'm running for Senate to help President Trump clean up the mess," Morris states in the ad.McConnell announced last February that he would not seek an eighth term.RELATED: Mitch McConnell announces Senate retirement Axios implied that the Musk-Morris connection may have come about because of Vice President JD Vance, whom the outlet described as "close to" Musk and a "personal friend" to Morris.Axios also indicated that Musk's massive donation is a sign that he intends to use his wealth in support of Republicans in the 2026 midterms.Morris did not respond to Blaze News' request for comment but did retweet a post about the Axios report. Requests for comment sent to Musk's various businesses received no response. The Axios report did not include a statement from Morris or Musk. Thus far, President Donald Trump has not endorsed any candidate in the race. In his campaign video, Morris characterizes other Republicans running for the seat — Congressman Andy Barr and former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron — as McConnell's "puppets."Several Democrats have tossed their hats into the ring, including Amy McGrath, who was trounced by McConnell in 2020. However, whoever prevails in the Republican primary is expected to win the general election in November.Like Blaze News? 'Place your left hand on the Quran': Foreign-born lieutenant governor does not swear in on Bible

In one of the clearest examples of elections having consequences in recent times, Virginia's new lieutenant governor's swearing-in ceremony made history for its unorthodox changes. On Saturday, Ghazala Firdous Hashmi took her oath of office to fill the lieutenant governor seat. However there was one major twist to the proceedings: Instead of placing her left hand on the Bible, Hashmi swore her oath on the Quran.Hashmi sees her election and inauguration as a sign of Virginia's 'continued progress toward a more representative and inclusive democracy.'"Place your left hand on the Quran," the woman directing the inauguration instructed Hashmi."I, Ghazala Firdous Hashmi, do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States," she said during the ceremony.RELATED: Progressive wins VA race despite admitted indifference to 'sexually explicit material' in schools Photo by Win McNamee/Getty ImagesAccording to her official website, Hashmi was born in Hyderabad, India, and was brought to the United States as a child. She is the first Muslim woman to hold statewide office in the nation and the first South Asian-American to be elected to statewide office in Virginia. Hashmi sees her election and inauguration as a sign of Virginia's "continued progress toward a more representative and inclusive democracy."Like Blaze News? Alex Ovechkin and most of Washington Capitals players skip Pride Night ritual

Washington Capitals players from outside North America may not be as used to Pride Nights as other athletes. On Saturday night, the Capitals celebrated alternative sexual lifestyles with their "All Caps All Love" night, posting rainbow and transgender flags ahead of their gay-memorabilia auction.'We proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community.'After the NHL banned themed jerseys in 2023, some fought for the right to use rainbow-colored stick tape, and won. That is how select Capitals players decided to show their gay pride on Saturday night against the reigning champion Florida Panthers, but as the teams took the ice, viewers noticed only eight of the Capitals' 20 dressed players took part.John Carlson, Nic Dowd, Brandon Duhaime, Hendrix Lapierre, Connor McMichael, Dylan Strome, Logan Thompson, and Trevor van Riemsdyk were the eight players spotted on video and cited in an article by outlet Russian Machine Never Breaks. However, missing from the group was captain, and the NHL's all-time scoring leader, Alexander Ovechkin.RELATED: Pro-transgender Seattle Kraken jersey enrages NHL fans: 'Feel some trans joy' Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images Interestingly, all of the players that participated were from either the United States or Canada; none of the Capitals players born overseas participated in the stunt. This included center Aliaksei Protas from Vitebsk, Belarus, left winger Ivan Miroshnichenko from Ussuriysk, Russia, defenseman Martin Fehérváry from Bratislava, Slovakia, and defenseman Rasmus Sandin from Uppsala, Sweden.Despite their leader and biggest star not participating in their festivities, the Capitals went all out in their support for certain sexual preferences with promotional videos and statements."We proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community, and celebrate the importance of inclusion every day," Strome, from Mississauga, Canada, said in a team video.RELATED: Florida Panthers praise Trump during White House visit: 'Nothing beats this' Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images "It was great," Dowd of Huntsville, Alabama, said in a post-game interview. "Every year we've put this on, guys lean into it and support it, and I thought it was another good night. I thought the Caps did a great job of showcasing it."The team also hosted the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C., on the ice that night, but that was not enough to push them ahead of the Panthers, and the Capitals lost 5-2.Fans in Seattle were recently outraged and piled plenty of backlash onto their Seattle Kraken team for supporting transgenderism with a themed logo, which inexplicably featured a unicorn drawn by a tattoo artist who said "queerness" inspires her work."Being able to be in Seattle surrounded by the queer community and being exposed to the queerness I never got to experience growing up, it inspires my work a lot," the artist said.Like Blaze News?
