Joe Satriani’s opinion on Kurt Cobain as a guitarist

Born in Westbury, New York in 1956, Joe Satriani started his musical career in 1978 and ended up becoming a guitar teacher. Two of his students were Kirk Hammett, Steve Vai and Alex Skolnick, who would then become really famous guitar players. With the release of his first studio albums in the late 80s, Satriani also became a praised and known guitarist and in the following years became a real guitar hero that influenced countless generations of artists. Since he was part of the music business in the 90s he had the chance to see the evolution of Rock and Roll up-close, including Grunge. That sub-genre reached the mainstream with the release of Nirvana's "Nevermind" in 1991 and made their singer, guitarist and songwriter one of the biggest Rock stars of all time. But what was Satriani's opinion on Kurt Cobain as a guitar player? What is the opinon of Joe Satriani on Kurt Cobain as a guitar player In an interview with Classic Rock, Satriani talked about Kurt and said that he really appreciated his guitar playing.  “I was very happy with those Nirvana records." "He was a great guitar player. You go back and look at Nirvana clips, and you realise this guy is playing everything he’s supposed to play. He’s not looking at what he’s playing, so obviously he really knows the instrument. And he’s playing with one of the greatest drummers of all time (Dave Grohl), so that wouldn’t have worked if he was not a good guitarist,” Joe Satriani said. Curiously, the Grunge movement was almost the opposite of the kind of music Satriani was playing. They wanted to bring Rock and Roll to the basics again and guitar solos were really short. The band was active until 1994 when Kurt Cobain tragically died at the age of 27. One year later Dave Grohl formed Foo Fighters, making the band's debut album all by himself, writing, singing and playing all the instruments. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTWKbfoikeg&pp=ygULc21lbGxzIGxpa2U%3DThe post Joe Satriani’s opinion on Kurt Cobain as a guitarist appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Tony Iommi’s opinion on Jeff Beck

The amount of incredible British guitarists who started their careers in the 60s is surreal. They were fundamental to the evolution of Rock and Roll and even for the birth of new music genres. Heavy Metal for example wouldn't have been the same with Black Sabbath, the band that created the genre and their guitarist Tony Iommi was crucial for their sound, which was something no one had ever heard before at that time. Known as the "Riffsmaster" for his incredible ability of creating fantastic guitar riffs that inspired countless generations, Iommi talked many times about other British guitar players, including the late Jeff Beck. Tony Iommi’s opinion on Jeff Beck Is really hard to find someone who didn't like Jeff Beck or thought he was not a good guitar player, so as expected, Tony Iommi really admired Jeff. He had the chance to meet him in the early days because they used to have the same manager. Like many other famous rockstars, Iommi also believed no one could play like Jeff, as he said in an interview with Guitar World in 2024 “Oh yeah, Jeff was great. I met Jeff early on because we had the same manager. He was so different and unique. A truly great player who was just doing his own thing that was 100 percent him. It’s true what they said; nobody could play quite like Jeff,” Tony Iommi said. Jeff was four years older than Iommi but both of them started their musical career in the same year, 1964. However, Beck achieved fame first, since he was a member of The Yardbirds for a while. Then started a successful solo career, releasing praised albums like "Truth" (1968) and "Beck-Ola" (1969). Iommi was a member of Jethro Tull for about two weeks in 1968, even appearing with the band in the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll circus with Ian Anderson. But he decided to return to Sabbath and they finally had the chance to release their groundbreaking self-titled debut album in 1970. Tony Iommi said Jeff Beck was brilliant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvpeIKI4ZiQ&pp=ygUWamVmZiBiZWNrIGJlY2tzIGJvbGVybw%3D%3D Jeff Beck's death on January 10, 2023 at the age of 78 surprised everyone since he had just finished a tour and released a new album with Johnny Depp. He died from a bacterial meningitis infection at a hospital near Riverhall. As soon as the news was shared by his family many famous artists paid tribute to him, including Tony. “I was totally shocked to hear the very sad news of Jeff Beck’s passing. Jeff was such a nice person and an outstanding iconic, genius guitar player – there will never be another Jeff Beck. His playing was very special and distinctively brilliant!!! He will surely be missed. R.I.P Jeff,” Tony Iommi said. Iommi was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006 as a member of Black Sabbath. Jeff was inducted three years later, in 2009, as a solo act. Although they didn't play on the same song, Jeff and Tony were part of Ozzy Osbourne's 2022 studio album "Patient Number 9". That record also had Zakk Wylde, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready and Duff McKagan. The post Tony Iommi’s opinion on Jeff Beck appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

??????‍♂️ Albo’s response after Mark Zuckerberg’s censorship announcement.

UTL COMMENT:- This issue this puppet is pushing will impose censorship and breach privacy rights because to “enable the proof of age" requires all social media users to give up private/personal information to the digital ID ideology/ requirements Digital ID Vs Age restricted social media access = same same but different = tomato(Au) tomato(US) Albo you are gaslighting the population again!! BTW One for the fact checkers. Many, many Aust Senators opposed the Aust Gov't Social media ban bill. The legislation was pushed passed the Senators while hidden amongst 100's of other Bills, with no accountable debate from other senators who were not allowed to debate the media ban Bill in parliament. What other hidden agendas were passed 2024 with the "majority" of Bills hidden from Aust Senators?

Desperate man asks strangers to restore a rare photo of his deceased wife. They didn't let him down.

Desperate man asks strangers to restore a rare photo of his deceased wife. They didn't let him down.

Losing a loved one is never something anyone can be prepared for, even if you know it's coming. The finality of death no matter the mental preparation for the loss hits on a visceral level that's unexplainable to those who have yet to experience such loss. While you're doing your best to pull yourself together for final preparations, every well-meaning platitude of comfort feels like a gut punch. But you do your best to move through the days, weeks and months without feeling like a burden to those who have designated themselves as responsible to hold your grief. It's in the quiet moments after the casseroles stop coming and the beautiful floral arrangements begin to die that you have the time to go through your rolodex of memories. Some memories are clear bringing you fits of unexpected laughter, others are fuzzy and having a picture helps to bring things back into focus. Mathew Jacobs recently joined the club that nobody wants to join after losing his wife in January 2024. The grieving husband realizes that he doesn't have many pictures with his late wife and decides to make a plea to a photo restoration group on Facebook. a man and a woman looking at the camera Photo by Vidar Nordli-Mathisen on Unsplash "Lost my wife in January and as she got older and gained weight she didn't like having her picture taken. So I don't have many pictures with her. The one below is one of my favorites when we were younger. Can someone please bring out our faces and get rid of the glare. Thank you in advance," Jacobs writes in the original post. While the internet is known to be sort of a cesspool of negativity and trolls, the opposite is often true when it comes to people rallying to help a stranger. This undercurrent of internet goodness bubbled to the surface just when Jacobs needed it. People jumped in to offer condolences while others got to work on restoring the picture. By the end of the exchange of restoration attempts, Jacobs walks away with a photo clearly depicting his wife's beautiful features. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Upworthy (@upworthy)"An adorable couple! Not liking pictures of myself due to my weight issues throughout life was a true struggle. I love your unconditional love for this beautiful lady and I am sure you made her feel beautiful every day," one person shares."So very sorry for your loss. And I’m very glad to see that folks in this group Definitely got the job done. There are some incredible edits above. She was beautiful by the way," another says in the group. flat lay photography of mirrorless camera Photo by Ignat Kushanrev on Unsplash "So sorry for your loss. Let this be a lesson to anyone who hides away from the camera. One day photographs may be all we have left behind for our loved ones," one commenter reminds others.Jacobs is overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers, saying, "after a 191 comments I don't know if anyone will see this but I really want to thank everyone for all the love. Anyone that loses someone this close to them and says they are OK is lying, and it is hard not to lose faith in the world. Things like this and the love expressed by everyone helps to remind me that the world is not a terrible place and there is love out there still."

Steve Martin has the best response to hearing that his book was banned in Florida

Over the past few years, book bans have been happening in public libraries and schools across America. In the 2022-2023 school year alone, over 3,300 books were banned in 182 school districts in 37 states. Most books that have been banned deal with LGBTQ and racial themes. According to a report from PEN America, Florida has been the most aggressive state regarding book bans, accounting for about 40% of those taken off the shelves. On November 5, 2023 Collier County, Florida, announced that it was banning 300 books from its school libraries out of an effort to comply with state law HB 1069, which says books that depict or describe “sexual content” can be challenged for removal.Among the books banned by the school district was Shopgirl, a novella by author Steve Martin published in 2000. Martin is also the star of the hit Hulu show, Only Murders in the Building, featuring Martin Short and Selena Gomez.Upon hearing about his book being banned, Martin responded with his iconic wit on Instagram, saying, “So proud to have my book Shopgirl banned in Collier County, Florida! Now, people who want to read it will have to buy a copy!" See on Instagram Shopgirl is a story about a young woman who works in a luxury department store and has an affair with a wealthy older man. It was made into a movie in 2005 starring Claire Danes and Martin. It’s believed the book was banned for its mild sexual content. On Amazon, the book is recommended for readers ages 13 and up. Photographer doesn't force young girls to smile in photos and the results are powerful

The expectation to put on an air of happy, fun, pleasant nonconfrontation through baring teeth, otherwise known as smiling, is something many, if not most, women know very well. What’s more, this pressure is often introduced to women at a very early age. And, obviously, while there’s nothing inherently wrong with naturally being a happy, smiling person, issues arise when kids are taught that being themselves, just as they are, isn’t acceptable. That’s why people are so impressed with North Carolina-based photographer Brooke Light’s (@bdlighted on TikTok) hands-off approach when it comes to taking pictures of young girls. Her philosophy is simple, but oh so poignant: Allow girls to show up, take up space, and perhaps most importantly, not smile if they don’t want to.Light posted a video showing some of her recent portraits, and truly, the work speaks for itself. Each of the girls’ distinct, unique personalities shine in these black-and-white images. Plus the lighting is moody and artsy and cool as hell. So much better than a forced, cheesy, smiling pic. Take a look: @bdlighted never underestimate the power of a photoshoot for your kids confidence #moodymini #kidsphotographer #childrensphotography #portraitphotographer #confidenceboost #kidsconfidence #familyphotoshootideas #familyphotoshoots #studiophotography #blackandwhitephoto #girlpower #girlempowerment #donttellmetosmile #momsofgirls #girlmom #greenscreen ♬ Little Girl Gone - CHINCHILLA Comments began flooding in commending Light for how she authentically portrayed the girls as individuals, rather than producing cookie-cutter images of them.“I love how they are not trying to be anything ‘extra’ just their own raw and savage selves,” one person wrote. Another added, “I can feel their power through my phone.” Light redirected the praise toward her clients, saying, “They are even more amazing in person! Like that vibe you feel is ALL THEM. I’m just there capturing it.”For many women who had their own memories of being told to smile for photos, seeing the images had a profound effect. “CHILLS! This healed something in me. Thank you.” one person commented. “The Sears family photo trauma was REAL” wrote another. And for the record, Light doesn’t make boys smile either. Here’s the proof in her follow-up video: @bdlighted these mom's got me blushing in my DMs ?? I've never had my creativity or my photography validated so much in my life. thank you for the outpouring of love on these photos this week. it's meant more than you can ever know. #boymom #boymoms #moodymini #familyphotoshoots #familyphotoshootideas #portraitphotographer #studiophotography #kidsphotographer #kidsconfidence #childrensphotography #greenscreen ♬ Area Codes - Kali In the post, Light shared how touched she was by the overwhelmingly positive response.“I’ve never had my creativity or my photography validated so much in my life. Thank you for the outpouring of love on these photos this week. It’s meant more than you can ever know,” she wrote. Imagine that…celebrating others for their authentic selves, then being celebrated yourself. Now that’s something worth smiling for. This article originally appeared two years ago.
