CBS Drools Over ‘Virtuoso’ Obamas Delivering ‘Phenomenal’, ‘Cultural Moment’ at DNC

With co-host, Democratic donor, and Obama family friend Gayle King helming CBS Mornings, Wednesday’s show was packed to the brim with adulation among King and a host of pals for the “virtuoso performance” by Barack and Michelle Obama at the Democratic National Convention Tuesday in what they insisted will be remembered as not only an “energetic” and “phenomenal” “one-two punch”, but a “cultural moment”. King got things started in the “Eye Opener”: “The crowd roars for both of the Obamas as they make the case for Kamala Harris and against Donald Trump.” She could barely contain herself afterward: It was a very big night at the Democratic National Convention. Did you stay up late? Yes, you did, with the powerful speeches by former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama, they made their cases for the Harris-Walz ticket to a crowd that was how shall we say, ecstatic to see them...It seems like they are putting the party back in Democratic Party. Michelle and Barack Obama were the one-two punch, and people could say best guest of the party last night. Co-host Tony Dokoupil agreed “it really was a party” and gushed “[t]he roar of the crowd may still be echoing off the walls here at the United Center” from “that huge speech from Barack Obama, but yes, maybe even a bigger one from former First Lady Michelle Obama”. Adding “there were just so many quotable moments” ripping Trump, Dokoupil boasted Barack “blend[ed] nostalgia with inspiration” and gently ribbed him for making a veiled reference to Trump’s manhood. Correspondent Ed O’Keefe had the main recap that trumpeted Michelle’s “piercing criticism of her husband’s successor” and talked up the “music driven piece of business, a state by state roll call to officially nominate Harris and running mate, Tim Walz with a unique tune for each and in some cases, celebrity appearances.” Democratic strategist and CBS News contributor Joel Payne was up on King’s level of enthrallment. Moments after Payne touted the former First Lady as “so effective”, King had to get in on the act and offer more praise for her personal friend (which wasn’t mentioned) (click “expand”): KING: Yes, I was curious, Joel, about Michelle Obama in particular, because she is very reluctant, as you know, to be on stage. She’s very reluctant to even say Donald Trump’s name, which she did yesterday and I think that she always seems to transcend politics. The fact that, in my opinion, she was making the case that the stakes seemed very high for the Democratic Party and both of them made this point: As good as this is, the energy was infectious. I mean, literally people got out of their beds and were cheering last night. I got so many phone calls about it, they still said, this is an uphill battle. Do you think that point was made last night from both of them? PAYNE: Well, Gayle, the thing is, is that the experience is so personal for the Obamas, because what Kamala Harris is trying to do, the audacious thing she’s trying to do, it’s what Barack and Michelle Obama did, and it impacted their family and I think she was trying to tell how that experience of going through that for them 16 years ago really drew a straight line to what Kamala Harris and her family are dealing with, so I think it was personal for her, and I think that’s why she spoke. She talked about the grief of losing her mother recently, and why she felt like despite that, she needed to be here. It was so inspiring, Gayle. You’re right. I got so many calls. I was sitting with a former Obama administration official who just talked about how, you know, Michelle Obama doesn’t want people to stop asking her about running for president. She stopped giving speeches like that. She was phenomenal. Fast-forwarding to the top of the second hour (and past another classic Dokoupil man-on-the-street piece), King had more fawning praise for the “very energetic day at the DNC in Chicago, former First Lady Michelle Obama,” who “was greeted like a rock star, and rock star is the word before she even opened her mouth and made the case for Vice President Kamala Harris”. “You know who else had a great night, I thought, was the Second Gentleman, Doug Emhoff, which ordinarily we’d be talking a lot about because I thought he was also knockout, but the Obamas were so strong. Michelle Obama in particular, it’s hard to not speak about her performance last night,” she added. Before going to January 6 correspondent Scott MacFarlane in North Carolina to give a few fleeting words about the state of the Trump campaign, Dokoupil reveled in how the CBS Mornings crew were in awe of their team’s convention: You know, we’re all on a text chain, and we were exchanging notes last night. And you know, Barack Obama is recognized as a generational speaker. There is no doubt about that, and yet, he might not be the best speechmaker in his own family. That was also clear....The mission, the assignment, that was very clear for the Obamas, they were going to fire up the Democrats and help people make a plan to vote. That’s what you heard from both of the Obamas.  Later in the second hour, Dokoupil interviewed singer John Legend about his support for Harris and, again to his credit, pointed out to him that the wide support of Hollywood names for Harris “allows Republicans to look at the party and say it’s the party of coastal elites.” To see the full transcript of CBS’s DNC coverage from August 21, click here.

Texas AG Paxton launches investigation into reports of organizations illegally registering non-citizens to vote

The attorney general of Texas announced an investigation into reports that non-citizens were being illegally registered to vote. 'It is a crime to vote—or to register to vote—if you are not a United States Citizen.' "Texans are deeply troubled by the possibility that organizations purporting to assist with voter registration are illegally registering noncitizens to vote in our elections," said Attorney General Ken Paxton in a statement Wednesday. "My office is investigating every credible report we receive regarding potential criminal activity that could compromise the integrity of our elections," he added. Paxton went on to criticize the Biden-Harris administration over its failure to secure the border. "The Biden-Harris Administration has intentionally flooded our country with illegal aliens, and without proper safeguards, foreign nationals can illegally influence elections at the local, state, and national level," he claimed. Paxton may have been referring to a report made by Maria Bartiromo of Fox News that immigrants were lined up outside of DMV offices and getting registered to vote at a table and tents outside of the offices. She did not say they were illegal aliens, but many on social media took that to be her meaning. In his statement, the attorney general referred to the booths outside government offices. "If eligible citizens can legally register to vote when conducting their business at a DPS office, why would they need a second opportunity to register with a booth outside?" he asked rhetorically. A spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety said the claims were "simply false" in a statement to the Star-Telegram. “Contrary to Bartiromo’s friend’s wife’s account, there is no office for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles in Weatherford. Folks there get their licenses at a DPS Driver License office," said Sgt. William Lockridge. “None of it is true,” he added. He went on to say the report was "kind of racist" because he reasoned that, “Just because these people aren’t white, that doesn’t mean they’re illegal.”In May, Paxton filed a lawsuit against an organization for allegedly engaging in "human smuggling" by shielding illegal aliens from law enforcement agencies. The group denied the accusations and said his claims were "illegal, immoral and anti-faith." A coalition of 24 states, including Texas, filed a brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to protect elections from non-citizens voting by supporting an Arizona law that required voters to show proof of citizenship. "It is a crime to vote—or to register to vote—if you are not a United States Citizen. Any wrongdoing will be punished to the fullest extent of the law," Paxton concluded in his statement. WATCH: Lara Trump talks RNC strategies, Project 2025, and all the issues Americans ACTUALLY care about

Among the long list of things we won’t miss about Joe Biden is his constant lying about Donald Trump. “Nothing enrages me more than Joe Biden and his flatout lies about what Donald Trump has said in the past, continually lying about him,” Pat Gray tells Lara Trump, who joined the show to shed light on the party’s plan to address the ongoing deception from Biden, Harris, and the DNC. - YouTube www.youtube.com Even though Snopes and other fact-checker platforms have debunked several of Biden’s lies about Trump, the president continues to perpetuate them every time he’s near a microphone. “How do you combat that?” Pat asks. “They know they have failed the American people, so they know they can only operate in lies,” Lara says, pointing to the lie that Donald Trump instituted a “federal abortion ban” when he actually just pushed the issue back to the states. “The only way you can [combat] that is actually show Donald Trump in his own words and show what he truly said,” she continues, referencing how the left and its media allies spread the lie that Trump said that “neo-nazis and white supremacists” were “very fine people” when he, in fact, said that those extremist groups should be “condemned totally.” Pat then brings up Project 2025 and the hysteria Democrats are raising over its supposed radicalism. “All of the proposals I’ve seen are pretty reasonable,” he says of the Heritage Foundation’s policy recommendations. “These are things that just make sense for the conservative party. Is that something Donald feels is necessary to distance himself from?” he asks. “There are some ideas in there that are very productive and would be great for this country. There are some ideas in there that might be a little more extreme, and the problem is Donald Trump hasn’t had anything to do with Project 2025,” Lara explains, noting that falsely pinning Project 2025 on Trump is yet another example of the left’s efforts to make him look “extreme and crazy.” She goes on to explain why the left avoids addressing the issues Americans actually want to hear about, like “how they get inflation down, how they get more money in their pockets, how we bring the prices of gas down, close our southern border, bring our troops back home, make sure that we are not engaged in foreign wars and sending money overseas.” “That's not what Democrats want to talk about because they know they've taken the country in the wrong direction on all of those issues,” she says. Police say protesters might be responsible for maggots found in breakfast dishes of delegates at Democratic Convention

Some delegates attending the Democratic National Convention were horrified to report finding maggots in their breakfast dishes, and the FBI has launched an investigation. The mortifying incident was reported at the Fairmont Chicago Hotel, according to a hotel spokesman. 'Ugly attacks like this have no place in our democracy.' “We can confirm that a group of individuals caused a disruption at a DNC-related breakfast event at our hotel this morning,” said Haley Robles to WGN-TV. “Our team acted immediately to clean and sanitize the area, ensuring that the event could continue without further incident.” A delegate from Indiana said the hotel staff did a good job of improvising after the discovery. “They protected us, of course, and turned it around in minutes,” said Tracy Boyd. “I really do want to give a shout-out to the hotel staff and leadership." A statement from law enforcement officials providing DNC security released a statement about the incident. Multiple unknown female offenders are alleged to have entered a building (200 block of North Columbus Drive) and began placing unknown objects onto tables containing food. The offenders are believed to have then left the area. One victim was treated and released on-scene. Along with CPD, FBI-Chicago is assisting in the investigation. No further information is available at this time.Delegates from Minnesota, Ohio, Missouri, and Indiana are staying at the Fairmount hotel. Pete Buttigieg, the secretary of the transportation department, spoke at the hotel on Wednesday. “All Americans have the right to peaceful protest, but ugly attacks like this have no place in our democracy,” read a statement from Indiana Democratic Party spokesperson Sam Barloga. The New York Post noted that anti-Israel protesters had previously released maggots at a hotel hosting delegates with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Protesters took credit for the attack and also admitted to pulling a fire alarm ahead of Netanyahu's speech. Like Blaze News? Now anyone can use Midjourney’s website to generate AI images

If you wanted to use the AI image generator Midjourney when it first launched, your only choice was to join a Discord server and interact with a bot. Late last year, the Midjourney team created a website for the service, but only for users who had already generated at least 10,000 images on Discord. Months later, the website is now open to everyone. In a Discord message on Wednesday, Midjourney's co-founder and CEO David Holz explained that anyone can visit Midjourney's website, create an account, and begin making images. New users will even be able to create around 25 images for free. If you want to know how to use the service before you waste all of your free images, Midjourney shared a video on X to help new users get started: https://twitter.com/midjourney/status/1826305298560418171 Though new users can sign up with a Google account or a Discord account, Holz recommends that current users stick with Discord to retain their image history. That said, once you log in with your Discord account, you can merge the two accounts from profile settings. Once you log in, you can type prompts into the input field at the top of the page to have the AI generate images for you. I generated the image at the top of this page with the prompt: "a man sitting on a sunny hillside typing on his laptop." Midjourney shows me that I have approximately 24 images left to generate as part of my free trial. Depending on how complicated the image is to generate, it could impact the total number of freebies I get. After your free trial ends, you'll have to pay to generate more images. Midjourney offers four plans, with the cheapest starting at $10 a month (or $96 a year).
