POLL: What Was the Worst Media Take of the Week?

POLL: What was the worst media take of the week? (Vote below)     NOMINEES:    1. Donald Trump Should’ve Been Impeached “One Minute” Into His Presidency “Donald Trump was eligible for impeachment one minute into his inaugural address for violating the emoluments clause….I think Democrats should start having a different guy come out every week and introduce new articles of impeachment, just to inspire people and show them that we’re doing something and let the record show for history we are fighting against this.”— SiriusXM host John Fugelsang on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour with Stephanie Ruhle, January 31.   2. Trump Said “Some of the Most Racist Things I Have Ever Heard” Out of the White House “He [Donald Trump] does a moment of silence, and then spends the next 25 minutes saying some of the most racist things I have ever heard come out of the White House, come out of the White House Press Briefing Room, come out of the mouth of the President of the United States, scapegoating anyone who isn’t white, Christian, male, straight….All we can do is sit back and pray that the wrecking ball doesn’t destroy us.”— Washington Post associate editor/MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart discussing Trump’s press conference on the Potomac River plane/helicopter crash as aired on PBS News Hour, January 31.   3. Trump Is a “Scumbag,” “Racist Piece of Garbage” “Donald Trump’s a scumbag. I mean, I think we can say that. He’s a vile, racist piece of garbage. He happens to be President of the United States, so we have to pay attention. If he wasn’t, he’d be one of vile people out there in this country.”— MSNBC contributor Dean Obeidallah on MSNBC’s Ayman, February 1.    Loading…

Trump orders another federal agency to axe media contracts amid Politico controversy: Report

President Donald Trump ordered yet another federal agency to cancel all of its media contracts in the wake of the recent controversy involving Politico, a report from Axios claims.According to an email obtained by Axios, the Trump administration apparently called for the General Services Administration to discontinue all of its paid media contracts."GSA team, please do two things," the email from a Trump official began. "Pull all contracts for Politico, BBC, E&E (Politico sub) and Bloomberg."The email reiterated that the directive applied to "every single media contract" with the GSA alone: "Pull all media contracts for just GSA ... for GSA only."Whether the contracts are to be pulled temporarily or permanently is unclear. However, a White House official indicated to Axios that the Trump administration was laser-focused on the media. "The eye of Sauron is on more than just Politico," the official said. "It's all the media."The New York Post reached out to the White House late Thursday night to confirm the reporting from Axios but did not receive a response. The GSA is billed as an "independent" agency designed to improve government efficiency by managing government real estate and buying government equipment and solutions from private businesses. "We also promote management best practices and efficient government operations through the development of governmentwide policies," its website says.'THE DEMOCRATS CAN’T HIDE FROM THIS ONE.'The report regarding the GSA and its apparently now-defunct media contracts comes on the heels of a major controversy involving Politico Pro, a subscription service affiliated with the Politico media outlet.A quick scan of USAspending.gov revealed earlier this week that the federal government had shelled out $8 million in subscription fees to Politico Pro in the last year alone and more than $34 million since fiscal year 2016. Politico's affiliate, Capitol News Company LLC, received another $4.5 million from fiscal year 2011 through 2023, Blaze News previously reported. In response to the uproar that ensued, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt promised on Wednesday that Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency would begin "working on canceling those payments now."The following day, Trump took to Truth Social and slammed Politico as a "left wing 'rag'" and claimed that the subscriptions paid for by federal agencies like the United States Agency for International Development were actually a quid pro quo for favorable news coverage of the Democratic Party:LOOKS LIKE BILLIONS OF DOLLARS HAVE BEEN STOLLEN AT USAID, AND OTHER AGENCIES, MUCH OF IT GOING TO THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA AS A 'PAYOFF' FOR CREATING GOOD STORIES ABOUT THE DEMOCRATS. THE LEFT WING 'RAG,' KNOWN AS 'POLITICO,' SEEMS TO HAVE RECEIVED $8,000,000. Did the New York Times receive money??? Who else did??? THIS COULD BE THE BIGGEST SCANDAL OF THEM ALL, PERHAPS THE BIGGEST IN HISTORY! THE DEMOCRATS CAN’T HIDE FROM THIS ONE. TOO BIG, TOO DIRTY!In a letter to readers, Politico CEO Goli Sheikholeslami and editor in chief John Harris pushed back against the accusations, claiming that the subscription sales to federal agencies were normal, apolitical business transactions akin to purchases of "research, equipment, software and industry reports.""We have never received any government funding — no subsidies, no grants, no handouts. Not one dime, ever, in 18 years," they wrote."Some online voices are deliberately spreading falsehoods. Let’s be clear: POLITICO has no financial dependence on the government and no hidden agenda. We cover politics and policy — that’s our job."For its part, Axios apparently quickly accepted the explanation offered by Politico leadership — and indicated that those questioning the tens of millions of dollars exchanged between the federal government and major media outlets were peddling "false conspiracy theories."Of note, Axios also added a key disclosure at the bottom of the article, acknowledging that Axios Pro received $5,550 in subscription fees from the Federal Communications Commission last year.Like Blaze News? How to add end-to-end encryption to your iCloud backups

How to add end-to-end encryption to your iCloud backups

Apple's Advanced Data Protection security features have been available for over two years now. It adds end-to-end encryption to various Apple apps on iCloud backup. With the UK government trying to make Apple offer a backdoor for its encryption technology, the company will likely remove this feature from the region. With that in mind, you might want to turn it on before Cupertino has to comply with this order. That said, end-to-end encryption is important for iCloud backups because it can prevent anyone from accessing your iPhone and iPad data. Apple can't make that data available to law enforcement because it doesn't have the keys to decrypt it, and hackers can't break it either if Apple's iCloud infrastructure is ever breached. The problem with such strong encryption is that it's a double-edged sword. End-to-end encryption will lock you out forever if you forget your password and/or security keys. That's why enabling the feature has to be done the right way to ensure you can recover your backups later. While iOS 16.2 made this feature first available and eventually expanded to more regions in iOS 16.3, two years later, anyone can take advantage of this feature. Enabling end-to-end encryption for iCloud backups is more complex than tapping a toggle inside the Settings app because you might have to remove devices that do not support these software releases from your account. They can't take advantage of end-to-end encryption for iCloud. After that, you'll need to set up Account Recovery. This critical step ensures you can recover your data if you forget the password. How to enable Advanced Data Protection Advanced Data Protection brings end-to-end encryption to iPhone iCloud backups. Image source: Apple Inc. via WSJ Head to the Settings app, go to iCloud, and then Advanced Data Protection. Next, tap Account Recovery to set it up. In the process, you can select a recovery contact or a trusted person, such as a family member or friend who also owns iPhones. They'll receive recovery codes if you ever forget your password. There's also the recovery key option, which lets you set up a 28-character key. It's imperative to save that key somewhere safe. Your password manager is one such example. You can also print it and hide it somewhere safe. Also, since the Notes app also gets end-to-end encryption, you can save it in there, but consider password-protecting the note. After establishing your recovery procedure, you can enable end-to-end encryption for iCloud backups. You'll need to go to Settings again, tap iCloud, and turn on Advanced Data Protection. Wrap up That's it. Now, you can save end-to-end encrypted backups in iCloud on all your devices associated with your Apple ID. Remember, you can already save end-to-end encrypted iPhone backups locally on a Mac or PC. To better understand why you need end-to-end encryption for your iPhone data, iCloud backups included, check out The Wall Street Journal's interview with Craig Federighi below. In addition, you can see how to lock apps with Face ID below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4ZOkWaDxfw Don't Miss: How to instantly lock any iPhone app behind Face ID The post How to add end-to-end encryption to your iCloud backups appeared first on BGR. DeepSeek mobile apps send your sensitive data to China with no encryption

DeepSeek R1 is the open-source AI from China that shocked the world last week. We learned that a startup with restricted access to high-tech AI chips was able to train a reasoning model as good as ChatGPT o1. This news tanked the stock market while the DeepSeek mobile app soared in the App Store, becoming the #1 free iPhone app. Since the arrival of this impressive ChatGPT rival, I have told you to stay away from it — at least the iPhone, Android, and web versions. I explained that DeepSeek's privacy policy clearly states that it sends all user data to China. Also troubling is the built-in censorship that stops DeepSeek from talking about topics that are sensitive to the Chinese government. Also, we learned that DeepSeek doesn't have built-in safety protections as good as ChatGPT and others, which means the AI might help out with nefarious activities. Finally, we saw signs that the first big DeepSeek hack probably occurred, as a research team found an unprotected database holding user data in plain text. Any hacker could have found that database and stolen its contents. There's now an even more concerning reason to remove DeepSeek from your iPhone or Android. The mobile apps have been caught sending sensitive user data, including chats with the AI, over an unsecured connection. The data is beamed to servers belonging to ByteDance, the Chinese company that created TikTok. But regardless of the destination, the unencrypted communication is troubling for security and privacy.
