Cal Tech Rampage – School President, Employees Held Hostage

ABC 7 reported that some protesters at Cal Tech broke off from a campus encampment to demonstrate in front of the university’s Student Services building. They proceeded to pile up numerous objects in front of the building’s entrance, using overturned golf carts, tables, and other pieces of furniture to create a barricade. Some “chained themselves outside the […] The post Cal Tech Rampage – School President, Employees Held Hostage appeared first on www.independentsentinel.com.

Gina Carano Can Proceed With Wrongful Termination Suit Against Disney, Judge Rules

Actress Gina Carano’s wrongful termination lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm can move forward three years after she was fired from the “Star Wars” spinoff series “The Mandalorian,” a  judge ruled. On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Sherilyn Peace Garnett ruled against the company and said that the suit could proceed after Disney’s attorney asked for the case to be dismissed on the basis of First Amendment rights, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Judge Garnett disagreed with Disney and said that The Daily Wire star’s suit should move ahead. Disney had argued it has a “right not to associate with a high-profile performer on a high-profile show who’s imbuing” the “Star Wars” series with “views it disagrees with” that could turn fans away from the show, the outlet noted. After her appearance in court, Carano took to X and wrote, “Disney should not have carte blanch authority to fire any actor just because Disney disagrees with something they say outside of work. No actor would be free to have a voice if that were true. I look forward to this case moving forward and proving Disney’s blatant discriminatory actions.” In the beautiful halls of the federal court in Los Angeles I was quite amazed at its splendor. I half expected to see Tom Cruise come sailing down the center like in the Mission Impossible movies. Having just left court, the judge said she would issue a ruling in the near… — Gina Carano ? (@ginacarano) June 12, 2024 In February, the star of DailyWire+ film “Terror on the Prairie” filed a lawsuit against Disney, after the entertainment giant cut ties with the actress over what it deemed “offensive” social media posts, as previously reported. The lawsuit alleges that Carano was wrongfully terminated, losing millions of dollars in income, and seeks to force Lucasfilm to recast her. The actress was axed by Disney after she posted a screenshot of another social media post that warned of the current political climate resembling Nazi Germany. Her post read, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors … even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?” Disney faced massive backlash for its actions against Carano, while some of the actress’ fellow castmates defended her “gracious” character. Shortly after the high-profile termination, The Daily Wire announced that it had partnered with the former mixed martial artist for a movie deal that resulted in the feature film “Terror on the Prairie,” which premiered in June 2022. Kate Winslet Kisses And Tells On ‘Titanic’ Costar Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet decided to kiss and tell when it comes to her “Titanic” costar Leonardo DiCaprio, admitting that as romantic as their onscreen kiss looked, it was “not all it’s cracked up to be.” During an interview with Vanity Fair, the 48-year-old actress reflected on her time working on James Cameron’s monster 1997 hit and all that went into the actors’ famous scene “flying” on the bow of the ship. “My God, he’s quite the romancer, isn’t he? No wonder every young girl in the world wanted to be kissed by Leonardo DiCaprio,” Winslet said. “It was not all it’s cracked up to be.” Winslet said DiCaprio wasn’t all to blame and said it was a “mess” trying to get the shot, because her dress was so tight she could barely breath, with “her boobs practically up to her chin.” She also recalled having to climb a ladder to make the scene work where she said hair and makeup couldn’t reach them, so she said she had to carry makeup in her clothing and do touchups between takes. “This was a nightmare shooting this,” Winslet told the outlet. “Leo couldn’t stop laughing, and we had to reshoot this about four times because [James Cameron] wanted a very specific light for this, obviously, and the sunsets kept changing where we were.” “We kept doing this kiss, and I’ve got a lot of pale makeup on, and I would have to do our makeup checks — on both of us, between takes — and I would end up looking as though I’d been sucking a caramel chocolate bar after each take because his makeup would come off on me,” she added. “And he just looked like there was a bit missing from his face because there was this big pale bit from all my makeup getting onto him.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP Despite the numerous takes it took to get the shot the way Cameron wanted it and all they had to endure, she’s “very proud of it.” “Because I feel that it is that film that just keeps giving,” Winslet said. “Whole other generations of people are discovering the film or seeing it for the first time and there’s something extraordinary about that.” In a recent interview, the superstar actress admitted all the fame she got after appearing in “Titanic” was “horrible.” Winslet made the remarks during an interview with Porter. “I felt like I had to look a certain way, or be a certain thing, and because media intrusion was so significant at that time, my life was quite unpleasant,” the actress told the outlet. “Journalists would always say, ‘After Titanic, you could have done anything and yet you chose to do these small things’ … and I was like, ‘Yeah, you bet your life I did! Because, guess what, being famous was horrible,’” she added. Amanda Harding contributed to this piece.

Music Manager Says ’Hatred And Fear’ Won’t Stop His Exhibit Honoring Those Killed At Music Festival By Hamas

Music manager Scooter Braun said “hatred and fear” will not make him take down his exhibit that honors all those who were killed at the Nova Music Festival by Hamas on October 7. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Braun talked about the inspiration for the exhibit and made it clear protestors outside the New York City location will not stop him, and in fact have only encouraged him to keep it going, promising they are headed to Los Angeles next. On Monday, the “Nova: Oct. 7 6:29 am — The Moment Music Stood Still: The Nova Music Festival Exhibition” opened despite pro-Palestinian protestors who chanted anti-Semitic slogans.  “I believe that most of these protestors are just incredibly misinformed, and some of the leaders of these protestors have an agenda of division,” Braun said. “And that’s not going to scare us, nor affect us. In fact, it inspires us to do it more and more. It’s more important for us to fight back, to show our shared humanity.” Braun said he, along with Israeli organizers Yagil Simony, Ofir Amir, and Omri Sasi, brought the exhibit to the U.S. and said the project is not about politics. “It’s just about massacre at a music festival that should have never happened. But music is a universal language and music has to remain a safe place,” he explained. The organizer of the Nova Exhibition @scooterbraun‘s response to yesterday’s protests: The Nova Music Exhibit is officially extending another week to June 22! We Will Dance Again https://t.co/bOw7rtmBBk pic.twitter.com/1wp00Afxl0 — Israel ישראל (@Israel) June 11, 2024 Braun, with Holocaust-surviving grandparents, said when he traveled to Nova, what he saw was “horrifying” and he needed to show people because “so much of it was being denied and people were dehumanizing each other.” “They weren’t there in a fight,” Braun said. “They were at a music festival dancing for peace, and they were brutally butchered, over 360 killed, over 40 hostages, the largest music massacre in history by a landslide.” CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “What we’re trying to get people to see is there’s nothing political about this exhibit. You don’t walk in and see flags,” he added. “You’ll see it is a music festival. You’ll see Coachella. You’ll see Stagecoach. You’ll see Governors Ball. And that’s all we want people to see, that you should be able to have empathy for all people.” “Right now it’s at 35 Wall Street in New York City,” Braun continued. “In response to these protestors, I called the team and extended it in New York for another week because we’ve decided to show people that we’re not going to allow hatred and fear to divide us. In fact, we’re going to go longer now in New York just so people can bear witness and understand what this is really about. And we’re not going to let this loud minority divide us. And in fact, I’ve invited those protestors if they’re willing to come in and see the exhibit for themselves.”
