One-In-A-Billion Giant Sea Monster Skull Breaks A World Record

The discovery of a 150-million-year-old pliosaur skull rocked the world in 2023‚ after it was retrieved from 12 meters (39 feet) up a cliff along the Jurassic Coast. It belonged to a pliosaur‚ an ancient marine reptile with a bite force that couldve bested Tyrannosaurus rex in a fight‚ and its just been entered into the Guinness Book Of World Records.Dubbed SeaRex‚ the pliosaur skull is 95 percent complete by surface area‚ making it the most complete skull of its kind on the planet. It contains almost all of its original bones‚ with 130 spiky teeth interlocked‚ just as they would have been when the pliosaur was swimming around the ocean 150 million years ago.I have studied many Kimmeridgian pliosaurs but have never seen one that is quite so well preserved as [this]‚ pliosaur expert Dr Judyth Sassoon from the University of Bristol told Guinness World Records. It contains a lot of anatomical details in a single specimen that are only found partially preserved in other specimens.The skull was discovered after fossil enthusiast Phil Jacobs found a snout on the beach in Dorset. He recorded a video and sent it to fossil expert Steve Etches MBE‚ proprietor of the Etches Collection where the pliosaur skull will go on display.We put a drone up and scanned all the way along the cliff‚ and then found what looked to be the rest of it stuck out. We needed to confirm that‚ so that meant a trip down the cliff on ropes to actually go down and see it. From there‚ we realised that it was preserved upside and that was the reason it looked so weird‚ Etches told IFLScience when we went to see the skull.You look on these programs and theyre in a quarry and its dead easy‚ and they have their cups of tea and they brush away this was nothing like that‚ I can tell you.Steve Etches‚ MBEIt didnt take very long to actually locate where the thing was‚ but it was right in the middle of a cliff. And you think‚ ';Oh God.'; You look on these programs and theyre in a quarry and its dead easy‚ and they have their cups of tea and they brush away this was nothing like that‚ I can tell you.The test of endurance of getting the 2-meter (6-foot) skull out of the cliff is told in great detail in the BBC program Attenborough And The Giant Sea Monster. For all his experience with the natural world‚ its safe to say fossil-fanatic Sir David Attenborough was still blown away by the discovery.It';s rare to find a fossil like this that';s not disarticulated‚ meaning it looks as it would have in life.Image credit: (C) IFLScienceThat is one of the biggest skulls you';ve ever seen‚ Sir David Attenborough said in a release emailed to IFLScience. I mean‚ it';s huge and so although I was aware of the tip that was first discovered I hadn';t fully appreciated how big the whole head would be and it';s enormous. Sheer scale was what first impressed me.The thing about the skull is that its not only by far the most informative part of the body‚ it is by far the most delicate too‚"; he added. And its the detail‚ and that is so rare to find it. [T]his is as near-perfect as it can possibly get.One of the scientists‚ Andre [Rowe]‚ he says its a one in a million‚ no! One in a billion fossil added executive producer Mike Gunton.The skull is now on display at the Etches Collection in Kimmeridge‚ Dorset‚ with Steve Etches describing it as ";one of‚ if not the most important specimen ever to come out from the Kimmeridge clay‚ and globally‚ this is one of the best specimens you';ll see."; The Etches collection is now requesting donations to Rescue the SeaRex as its believed that the skull isnt all there is to be studied along this stretch of the Jurassic Coast.The rest of the body is there‚ Im sure‚ fossil expert Chris Moore‚ who was instrumental in excavating the skull‚ told IFLScience. Its slightly disarticulated‚ so its come apart‚ but its all there.We took out part of the shoulder blade‚ some paddle digits and some of the vertebrae‚ that were inside of the head and you could see there were more bones going in. So‚ Im sure the whole animal is there.Find out more here if youd like to help them find out.

Mels Hole: The Legend of a Bottomless Hole In Washington

The legend of the bottomless hole started on February 21‚ 1997‚ when a man identifying himself as Mel Waters appeared as a guest on Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell. Waters claimed that he owned rural property nine miles (14 km) west of Ellensburg in Kittitas County‚ Washington‚ that contained a mysterious hole. According to Waters‚ the hole had an unknown depth. He claimed to have measured its depth using fishing line and a weight‚ although he still had not hit bottom by the time 80‚000 feet (24‚000 m) of line had been used. I brought the dogs with me. Waters said on the show. They wouldnt go anywhere near the damn thing.Waters said the hole had a three-foot stone wall around it. It seemed bottomless to him‚ so he used an old shark fishermans trick sending thousands of feet of fishing line down.What I did‚ was I sent down a roll of lifesavers‚ he said. So when it hit water the lifesavers would dissolve.But the lifesavers came back up whole no water so how deep was this hole?Waters said he believed it descended miles into the earth and he heard strange stories about its powers.According to him‚ the holes magical properties prompted US federal agents to seize the land and fund his relocation to Australia.Waters made guest appearances on Bells show in 1997 (February 21 and 24)‚ 2000‚ and 2002. Rebroadcasts of those appearances have helped create what has been described as a modern‚ rural myth. The exact location of the hole was unspecified‚ yet several people claimed to have seen it‚ such as Gerald R. Osborne‚ who used the ceremonial name Red Elk‚ who described himself as an intertribal medicine manhalf-breed Native American / white‚ and who told reporters in 2012 he visited the hole many times since 1961 and claimed the US government maintained a top secret base there where alien activity occurs.Now Im going public on this. And that could land me in a pile of junk‚ he said.Red Elk claims the government has a secret base there.An underground base‚ a very small‚ underground base‚ he said. Thats how Red Elk explains the white boxes covering the area on some satellite images. He also said hes seen alien activity in the area.A huge space craft‚ one‚ will appear and hover over the hole‚ he said.Thats what he said happens during Summer Solstice‚ when space men load and unload things at the hole before flying away.At the Northwest Museum of Legends and Lore‚ Phil Lipson said hes heard the stories.Well‚ I believe there is a hole‚ Lipson said. But Lipsons never seen the hole‚ even though hes led expeditions to find it. I think its actually a true event just something thats never been totally uncovered‚ he said.And to this day‚ no ones been able to find it‚ since that famous radio conversation.Ellensburg Public Library Historian Milton Wagy said the story became a sensation after Waters went on the radio. He said the phone rang off the hook with all kinds of stories about the hole some explainable‚ some not.Hes still trying to solve the mystery of what happened to the librarys file on Mels Hole.Well it just disappeared‚ which lends itself to the mysteriousness of Mels Hole‚ Wagy said. Did Mel take it? Did it just kind of rise out of the locked file cabinet? You never know there might be a hole out there.Now the question is: can anyone find Mels Hole and prove its existence?The post Mels Hole: The Legend of a Bottomless Hole In Washington appeared first on Anomalien.com.

Chilling Story of Black-Eyed Kid Encounter in Ireland

In the realm of urban legends and paranormal lore‚ few tales are as chilling and enigmatic as that of the Black-Eyed Kid. These mysterious apparitions are said to appear out of nowhere. They are children‚ usually between the ages of 6 and 16‚ with one defining and terrifying feature: their eyes are pitch black‚ devoid of sclera‚ iris‚ and soul. The origin of the Black-Eyed Kid legend is difficult to pinpoint. While similar entities appear in various cultures and folklore‚ the contemporary legend seems to have emerged in the late 20th century. Brent Bozell Explains the Media War on Trump on Fox';s ';Life‚ Liberty &;amp; Levin';

Brent Bozell Explains the Media War on Trump on Fox';s ';Life‚ Liberty &;amp; Levin';

On Sunday';s episode of Life‚ Liberty‚ &;amp; Levin on the Fox News Channel‚ Media Research Center founder and president L. Brent Bozell explained to Mark Levin how the media are relentlessly negative in their coverage of Donald Trump‚ and focus largely on his legal troubles and avoid covering how President Biden is failing on the issues from inflation to immigration to crime.Levin asked Bozell: ";What do you make of the media';s coverage of Biden';s war on Donald Trump?";Bozell began with Trump';s presidency: ";Over a four year period we looked at that media';s coverage ofDonald Trump when he waspresident.And found that on average every monthit was 90% negativecoverage they gave.No matter what his successes andhis successes‚ you cannot arguehis successes.But they just didn';t coverthem.";BOZELL: So we started doing it again. In February the number has gonedown.It is now 89% negative‚ [down] from 90%.What are they covering?They are covering exactly whatJoe Biden wants covered.They want his trials covered.They want those 91 felony countscovered‚ and they are covered and slantedagainst him.This is exactly what the Bidencampaign wants!Why? Because if you';re going to cover the trial‚ you';ve got tocover the issues.If you are going to cover theissues you are going to look atinflation.You';re going to look at interestrates. You';re going to look at theborder. That';s out of control. You';re going to look at our Americancities where crime is runningrampant.You';re going to look at thoseissues and every single timethey fall in favor of DonaldTrump.So this is the playbook the lefthad.It is with the Biden campaignand it is with the news media todo nothing but focus on trialsand legal woes and do it from anegative perspective. And you can';t argue the numbers I just gave you -- 89 percent!Levin then noted the media want to compare Trump to Hitler‚ just as they did to Barry Goldwater‚ to Richard Nixon‚ and Ronald Reagan. They engage in character assassination. Bozell agreed‚ and added the ";end of democracy"; spin.BOZELL:The most recent one is anti-democracy.Where did that word come from?This is a talking point‚ I thinkit came out of the Bidenadministration.Now everybody on the left isusing it. That Donald Trump‚ if you elect Donald Trump youwill have the end of democracyas we know it.This is the height of hypocrisy.Bozell said NBC fired Ronna McDaniel a few days after their hired her because she was an ";election denier‚"; after they denied that Hillary Clinton lost in 2016 for years‚ with their empty charges that Trump colluded with the Russian government to steal the election. They denied George W. Bush won in 2000‚ and even in 2004‚ when he won bigger. Stacey Abrams denied losing the gubernatorial race in Georgia‚ and they celebrated her as they mangled the facts. They only want ";liberal Republicans"; on NBC‚ he said.Earlier‚ Bozell and Levin discussed how the media tilt toward Hamas in their war on Israel‚ using Hamas body counts like they were wonderfully precise. Bozell also mentioned how our Dan Schneider pointed out that Google';s AI chatbot refused to answer questions about Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists‚ and wouldn';t answer when asked: what is the capital of Israel?

Persecution of Trumps lawyers imperils the rule of law

Persecution of Trumps lawyers imperils the rule of law

We dont live in a free country any more. Perhaps you hadnt noticed.Its easy to miss the vapor of totalitarianism seeping into America when most of our lives are dominated by 21st-century bread and circuses‚ propaganda silos‚ and self-made virtual worlds‚ layered on top of centuries of American prosperity and stability made possible by the rule of law.The rule of law is the American answer to despotism and totalitarianism.The targets of this nascent totalitarianism are somewhat unlikely ones: lawyers.Lawyers dont get much sympathy. But in those moments when you need to protect your life‚ liberty‚ or property‚ a lawyer is your shield‚ your advocate‚ your friend. Lawyers are important not only personally to individuals in crisis‚ but broadly to the rule of law‚ which is under attack in America by the very persons and institutions meant to uphold it.The persecution now unfolding of two American lawyers‚ John Eastman and Jeff Clark‚ tells the tale. It presages trouble not just for lawyers but for the rule of law itself and all of us who live under the freedom and protection it provides.Eastman‚ a prominent conservative constitutionalist academic‚ was retained by Donald Trump in late 2020 as a private lawyer. Clark served in the Department of Justice as an assistant attorney general in the Trump administration. In the wake of the election‚ they both worked to uncover and to remedy election illegalities in swing states that were so serious and potentially extensive that they may have affected the outcome in the Electoral College‚ causing it to erroneously elect Joe Biden rather than Donald Trump.Ive known John and Jeff for 37 and 28 years‚ respectively. Both have been prominent lawyers in the conservative legal world for decades. We three practiced law together at Kirkland &;amp; Ellis in the 1990s and early 2000s‚ along with a cast of attorneys who today incredibly and ironically figure prominently in the proceedings now under way in California‚ the District of Columbia‚ and Georgia to disbar Eastman and Clark from the practice of law and to prosecute them as criminals‚ along with President Trump.A California court‚ after the most lengthy and expensive bar trial in our nations history‚ ruled late last month that Eastman should be disbarred. Last week‚ the bar trial of Clark began in the District of Columbia. These lawyers‚ both of whom were deservedly at the pinnacle of their profession‚ have been indicted as criminal conspirators‚ have been stripped of their jobs and their livelihoods‚ have been hauled from their homes by the FBI‚ have been handcuffed and forced to perform perp walks‚ and have had their homes vandalized and their wives and children harassed.Not only that‚ but the Kafkaesque bureaucracy of their persecutors is peopled by former law partners‚ colleagues in Republican administrations‚ clients‚ friends‚ and even a co-clerk for Justice Thomas and a former federal judge for whom Eastman and my husband clerked and who had been a particular personal friend.All these people know very well that neither Eastman nor Clark ever denied or tried to overturn the election. Neither of them ever misrepresented the facts or the law about the 2020 election. They did not lie or commit fraud and are not guilty of moral turpitude‚ as the bar court quaintly labels their offense of aggressively advocating the case that the election had serious problems.A lawyers dutyEastman and Clark did the same thing every other American lawyer worth his salt does every day: advocate zealously on behalf of their clients‚ based on the facts and the law. We did it all day‚ every day‚ at Kirkland &;amp; Ellis. Those who did it the best were rewarded with handsome bonuses and promotions‚ not disbarred and subjected to criminal prosecution.The betrayal here is personal‚ yes: It bespeaks a world where loyalty and friendship have lost their meaning. But in a larger sense‚ the betrayal isnt just of persons; it is of principle. That principle is the rule of law.A new rule is forming: Dont make any aggressive or creative argument for your client‚ particularly when the law is vague or untested. Save your own skin.The rule of law means public decisions are to be made on the neutral application of the laws that the sovereigns the people‚ in the American regime have enacted. The rule of law was always what distinguished America from the norms in most times and places in history‚ where the law was created out of raw power and wielded by those who held it to suit their whims.The rule of law‚ uniquely in America‚ was our chosen way to protect life‚ liberty‚ and property in this imperfect world. It is the American answer to despotism and totalitarianism.Lawyers and judges‚ who litigate and resolve disputes under the rule of law‚ operate in the context of the adversary system‚ which is premised on the faith that when two sides disagree about what law provides‚ each side argues his case as vigorously as possible through his lawyer (his advocate and his friend)‚ before a neutral judge.The result in theory‚ and in practice in the United States until quite recently‚ when lawfare (a deceptively milquetoast term) was unleashed against President Trump and his lawyers is that truth will come to light and justice will prevail. There is nothing like the adversary system to test arguments‚ shine a light on unearthed facts‚ and pile up every fact and argument an advocate can think of on his clients side of the scales of justice.In law school‚ lawyers learn the basic precept embodied in Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11: Lawyers are to advance arguments that are warranted by existing law or by a nonfrivolous argument for extending‚ modifying‚ or reversing existing law or for establishing new law and to make factual contentions that have evidentiary support or will likely have evidentiary support after reasonable opportunity for further investigation or discovery.When lawyers take on a client‚ they have a duty (it isnt optional) to advocate zealously. It doesnt matter whether the client is Donald Trump‚ Joe Biden‚ a serial killer‚ or the United States government. When lawyers fail to advocate vigorously for a client‚ until now‚ they were considered bad lawyers. It could even mean‚ if they were lazy‚ negligent‚ or concerned more with their own fortunes‚ that they had committed legal malpractice.A dangerous new standardBut now‚ it seems‚ a new rule is forming: Dont make any aggressive or creative argument for your client‚ particularly in an area where the law is vague or untested. Save your own skin. Avoid being criticized‚ losing‚ being disbarred‚ and going to jail. These are the objects.What if the many lawyers who have argued for extensions of the law not yet on the books‚ for interpretations of the Constitution that had never been made‚ with arguments that were‚ to put it generously‚ creative‚ had been hauled from their homes by the FBI‚ disbarred‚ and criminally prosecuted?What if the Eastman-Clark standard had applied to Thurgood Marshall‚ who argued for overturning decades of Supreme Court precedent in Brown v. Board of Education based on a few social science studies?What if the Eastman-Clark standard had applied to attorney David Boies‚ who argued after the 2000 presidential election for a statewide recount in Florida using the intent of the voter as the absurd rule for counting unclear ballots‚ in the hope of wresting a victory for Al Gore over President-elect Bush? Boies would have let election boards impose their own will‚ credited ballots not cast legally and properly‚ disenfranchised legal voters‚ and undermined democracy. But Boies wasnt disbarred‚ tarred and feathered as an election denier‚ or prosecuted as a criminal for trying‚ on behalf of Al Gore‚ to overturn an election with a lawless standard.Neither did those things happen to Hillary Clinton and her lawyers who claimed she really won the 2016 election or would have won if it werent for what she claimed was Russian collusion with Trump. Even when her hoax was exposed‚ neither she nor her lawyers paid any price.There was never any evidence of Trump-Russia collusion‚ just like there was never any evidence that the Hunter Biden laptop was a Russian propaganda ploy‚ contrary to the claim of Joe Biden‚ Antony Blinken‚ and the 51 high-ranking intelligence officials who signed a letter saying there was.The height of lawlessnessI will always remember Justice Clarence Thomas‚ for whom John Eastman and I both clerked‚ telling us: If you think you know how a case should come out‚ try flipping the parties around. To test what you think is the right outcome‚ see if you would think the same if the sides were reversed. Then you will know if you really are thinking impartially‚ based on the rule of law.Its a great test from a wise man. If we dont heed it‚ the rule of law will vanish‚ and then citizens might start to notice. It will be too late.When I testified as a character witness at Eastmans bar trial‚ I told the judge about the way John has lived his life. Like Clark‚ it is not by lies. Both men are devout Catholics. They live their faith not in the sense of imposing it on anyone else but in the sense that they personally abide by the Ten Commandments‚ the ninth of which is‚ Thou shalt not bear false witness.I am certain that neither John nor Jeff thought that challenging the 2020 election was worth going to hell over.I dont think the judge appreciated my point. I dont think she even understood it.That became apparent when Eastmans disbarment ruling came down on Wednesday of Holy Week‚ giving him just three days the Easter triduum to draft his response to it‚ while Clark and his lawyer spent their Easter weekend preparing the defense to his disbarment in the District of Columbia. And now that Eastman has been stripped of the ability to practice law‚ he has been deprived of the means to earn the money it will take to defend himself from the pending criminal charges.But thats just how totalitarianism and lawlessness work.Editors note: A version of this article appeared originally at Chronicles.

Charlie Kirk is not wrong about birth control

Turning Point USAs Charlie Kirk came under fire last week for criticizing birth control. At an event hosted by Turning Point USA Faith‚ Kirk said: No Christian parent should ever allow their daughter on birth control‚ ever. Period. If your daughters on birth control‚ or [your] granddaughter‚ get them off immediately. (@) Kirk also said birth control screws up female brains and causes anxiety‚ depression‚ and suicidal ideation. He pointed out the high number of young women prescribed the pill for everything from acne to mood problems.Social media exploded with criticism of the extremist zealot Charlie Kirk. But is he wrong?When I was a depressed‚ anxious‚ non-sexually-active 17-year-old high school student‚ I sat across from my gynecologist looking for answers. I suffered from acne‚ depression‚ irregular cycles‚ and painful cramps that kept me in bed‚ unable to attend school.But instead of answers‚ I was given the pill.I didnt want to take it. Something in me (the Holy Spirit‚ perhaps) knew it was wrong. But I was desperate. I had a state track meet coming up and couldnt be sidelined by unmanageable symptoms. I gave in.Contraceptives foster the mistaken idea that if a couple gets pregnant unexpectedly‚ something went wrong.Once I stopped taking it two years later‚ it felt like seeing the sun for the first time. I hadnt noticed how much worse my depression had gotten while on the pill. I‚ like so many other young women‚ was sold a lie. I doubt my doctor intended to mislead me. But instead of fixing my health problems‚ the pill shut down my natural hormone production and confused my body. It put a band-aid on my existing issues and even created new ones.The truth is‚ there are very real side effects of birth control‚ including increased risk of blood clots and strokes‚ depression‚ altered attraction‚ breakthrough bleeding‚ headaches‚ nausea‚ elevated blood pressure‚ bloating‚ and weight gain. All forms of hormonal contraception result in an increased risk of breast cancer‚ and hormonal contraceptives are classified as a group 1 carcinogen.Given this concerning reality‚ women should question whether shutting down our reproductive systems could have long-term implications for our mental health and fertility. And we should reject the idea that women need to treat their fertility like a disease to be cured.Kirk is also right to highlight how birth control is of particular concern for Christian women. Contraceptives‚ including the pill and IUD‚ can act as abortifacients by preventing the implantation of a fertilized human embryo after its conception. But it goes even further than that.Contraceptives foster the mistaken idea that if a couple gets pregnant unexpectedly‚ something went wrong‚ leading some to correct the mistake through abortion. In reality‚ sex is inseparably rooted in procreation‚ and up until 1930‚ every Christian denomination affirmed that all forms of birth control including condoms and diaphragms are sinful and contrary to Gods design for marriage.In 1930‚ the Anglican Church became the first to approve contraception on a limited basis. Influenced by social pressure and the sexual revolution‚ all other Protestant denominations followed suit‚ with some citing a moral obligation to limit parenthood‚ a new sexual ethic sensitive to the current culture‚ and fears of overpopulation.But this embrace of contraception is entirely contrary to the beliefs of the early church fathers and even the Protestant reformers. John Chrysostom taught that both abortion and contraception create a barren sowing by stripping sex of its procreative nature. Both despise the gift of God namely‚ children. Both are expressions of fighting against Gods laws. Both turn the curse of barrenness into a blessing and treat the blessing of fruitfulness as a curse. And both misuse women. Augustine‚ bishop of Hippo‚ similarly wrote in the fifth century A.D. that couples who attempted contraception do not retain any reality of marriage.Martin Luther also opposed contraception‚ citing the sin of Onan: Onan must have been a malicious and incorrigible scoundrel. This is a most disgraceful sin. It is far more atrocious than incest and adultery. We call it unchastity‚ yes‚ a Sodomitic sin. John Calvin was of the same mindset.These words can be tough to hear. But they were the prevailing beliefs of all Christians until the sexual revolution taught women that to be free‚ they must become liberated from the natural consequences of sex.The truth‚ however‚ is that women do not need a way to prevent pregnancy. In a normal 28-day cycle‚ women are not constantly fertile. They are only able to get pregnant for six days out of their cycle. In other words‚ birth control was not actually developed to control birth or space pregnancies. Womens bodies do that naturally. Rather‚ birth control was created to freely indulge sexual desire‚ freed from the potential burden of conceiving a child.And here we find the root of perhaps all our sexual problems today: viewing children and people as commodities‚ things to be used for our selfish purposes rather than precious gifts from God‚ created for love. This is the belief at the center of abortion‚ IVF‚ surrogacy‚ and sexual degeneracy.This is the culture of death.I know this is a sensitive topic. It directly contradicts everything we have been taught by our culture. I am not suggesting that all couples who use contraception are knowingly and maliciously contributing to the culture of death. Without the grace of God‚ all of our hearts tend toward selfishness and sin. But the truth will set us free‚ and the truth is that authentic‚ total‚ self-giving love love that mimics the love of Jesus on the cross‚ the love between Christ and His church‚ which married couples are called to imitate simply cannot coexist with contraception.Instead of complete selfless love‚ contraceptives foster use and lust.Even though this might be tough to hear‚ it is good news. It is an invitation to a deeper love for the value‚ beauty‚ and dignity of human beings. By tracking her cycle‚ a woman can better understand and appreciate her body and fertility and even uncover the root causes of hormonal issues. By identifying when she can conceive‚ she and her spouse can communicate and decide whether there is a valid reason they should abstain to avoid pregnancy. Above all‚ the couple learns to radically trust in God‚ who loves them and will not give them more than they can handle. By welcoming children as the gifts they are‚ each couple can help put an end to the culture of death and bring about a culture of life.
