Morning Joe's New Attack Line On Trump: 'A Deeply Damaged Man' (and 'Fat Elvis')

Taunting Donald Trump as racist and sexist is getting a tad shopworn. Needing some fresh material, Morning Joe broke out a new attack line on Trump today, calling him "a badly damaged, deeply damaged man." In an opening segment devoted to trashing Trump over his performance at the National Association of Black Journalists forum yesterday, Mike Barnicle was the first to float the new line, saying: "What we saw yesterday is just another exhibit of a badly damaged man on stage....the culture has passed him by.  He's playing an old-school politics that has always worked for him. Hate, envy, resentment, fear of the other." A bit later, Charlie Sykes echoed Barnicle, twice: "this is a deeply damaged man who, who is really sort of, you know, once again in the Fat Elvis stage of his career....it was a bizarre performance, and I'm really glad they invited him and that they shone the spotlight on what's going on inside this deeply damaged, 78-year-old man's mind." It does remain to be seen whether Trump's questioning of Kamala's racial code-switching will work for him beyond the bounds of his base. It certainly excited the pro-Harris press.  Trump has a treasure trove to work with of far-left policy positions that Harris has taken. On the record. In her own voice.  On everything from the border to bail, Trump can put Harris on the spot, and force her to defend an indefensible record.  Might Trump be better off sticking to her vulnerability on the issues? Here's the transcript. MSNBC Morning Joe 8/1/24 6:12 am EDT MIKE BARNICLE: Reverend Al, we've known Donald Trump for a long time. You've known him longer than I have. What we saw yesterday is just another exhibit of a badly damaged man on stage. And, I don't know about you, but watching him, it occurred to me that the culture has passed him by.  He's playing an old-school politics that has always worked for him. Hate, envy, resentment, fear of the other. But the culture we live in today is so accelerated that you can measure it by a stopwatch. It just moves so quickly. And his act is old. He's got an old act. And as Mara pointed out, he knows partially, internally, that it's old and it's not working. And now, he's confronted by an opponent who has electrified the Democratic party within the week, electrified the party CHARLIE SYKES: I watchted this performance, at his rally last night, and we can talk about, you know, what his strategy was and what he intended to do. But I also think, you know, the other thing was the complete lack of impulse control. You know, as Mike Barnicle says, this is a deeply damaged man who, who is really sort of, you know, once again in the Fat Elvis stage of his career. He's just -- I thought it was very revealing that in his statement, he's going back to when he came down the golden escalator back in 2015.  This man is relitigating his original playbook, because that's what he's got. And I think that's what -- that's what my takeaway from all of this was. That he keeps going back to things that he thinks work. And I also agree with Mike when he says that, you really have the sense that this is a man who thinks the things that worked back in 2015 are going to work now, and the culture has not changed.  But it was a bizarre performance, and I'm really glad they invited him and that they shone the spotlight on what's going on inside this deeply damaged, 78-year-old man's mind.

PBS: Kamala Excites Atlanta Rally (and Reporter Barron-Lopez) with Abortion

PBS’s most biased reporter, White House correspondent Laura Barron-Lopez, showed still more excitement about the fledgling Kamala Harris campaign at a rally in Atlanta, on Tuesday’s edition of the PBS News Hour. In the show intro, anchor Geoff Bennett pumped up Democratic optimism in red-leaning Georgia: Vice president Kamala Harris campaigns in Georgia, a state that's now even more hotly contested than expected…” Geoff Bennett: ….Our Laura Barron-Lopez joins us now on the ground in Atlanta. So, Laura, some 10,000 people, at least 10,000 people have registered for that rally tonight where you are. I know you have been talking to folks as they make their way into that stadium. What have they been telling you? How are they feeling? Reporting from the stadium rally, Barron-Lopez hammered on the “excited” voters theme, and the “incredibly important” issue of abortion rights, or as Bennett put it, “reproductive rights.” Then Barron-Lopez tried to get out the black vote for Harris, pivoting to a pre-recorded in-studio interview. Laura Barron-Lopez: Well, people have been lined up out here, Geoff, since before 10:00 a.m. at this venue in Atlanta. And a lot of the voters are incredibly excited. For some of them, it's the first time that they have come to a big political rally. And I also sat down with three black women voters earlier today to talk to them about the election cycle. And those voters, I asked them how they feel about all of the big changes that have occurred in this election just in the last week. [Video clip] Barron-Lopez: Prior to President Biden dropping out of the race, how would you describe how you felt about the election in one word? Woman: I hate to say it, but I mean, I really felt this sense of doom and dread. Rachel Mitchum Elahee, Georgia Voter: Nervous. Woman: I felt scared. Laura Barron-Lopez: And how do you feel now? Woman: Rejuvenated. Rachel Mitchum Elahee: Hopeful. Woman: Optimistic. [End of clip] Laura Barron-Lopez: And that mood matches what we have been hearing from voters here waiting to see Harris, which is that they feel much better now about Democrats' chances in the presidential race than they did before. (No more happy talk about the now-discarded Biden to be forthcoming from Barron-Lopez, then?) Barron-Lopez found a dubious first for Harris: She visited an abortion clinic! Geoff Bennett: So, Laura, the vice president's speech tonight, as I understand it, is expected to have a sharp focus on reproductive rights. How important of an issue is that for the voters with whom you spoke earlier? Laura Barron-Lopez: Well, it's an incredibly important issue, Geoff. And Vice President Harris has been the face of the White House's messaging on abortion since the fall of Roe v. Wade. The vice president herself went in March to an abortion clinic. She was the first vice president or president sitting in that office that had ever visited an abortion clinic at the time. And one of the voters that I spoke to today, Rachel Mitchum Elahee, said that she thinks that Harris will be a much better messenger on abortion rights than President Biden. Rachel Mitchum Elahee: And if the president of the United States is a woman who is speaking for women's rights and women's reproductive rights, I think that that will sway some people more than -- even if President Biden was saying the same thing, I think President Harris -- President Harris saying the same thing will have a different impact. Laura Barron-Lopez: Rachel, as well as the other black women voters that I spoke to, said that abortion is still one of their top issues and that they think that it's really salient for voters here in Georgia. To keep the Kamala-mania rolling, PBS anchor Geoff Bennett next interviewed a (nominally) Republican mayor from the border state of Arizona who endorsed Harris for president. This “excited” episode of Kalama-mania was brought to you in part by Consumer Cellular, and taxpayers like you. A transcript is available, click “Expand.” PBS News Hour 7/30/24 7:17:13 p.m. (ET) Geoff Bennett: Vice President Kamala Harris is hitting the campaign trail in the battleground state of Georgia today, her first visit since gaining commitments for the necessary delegate votes to win the nomination. And she plans to visit several swing states in the coming weeks ahead of the Chicago Democratic Convention. Our Laura Barron-Lopez joins us now on the ground in Atlanta. So, Laura, some 10,000 people, at least 10,000 people have registered for that rally tonight where you are. I know you have been talking to folks as they make their way into that stadium. Rachel Mitchum Elahee: And if the president of the United States is a woman who is speaking for women's rights and women's reproductive rights, I think that that will sway some people more than — even if President Biden was saying the same thing, I think President Harris — President Harris saying the same thing will have a different impact. Laura Barron-Lopez : Rachel, as well as the other Black women voters that I spoke to, said that abortion is still one of their top issues and that they think that it's really salient for voters here in Georgia. Geoff Bennett: Well, V.P. Harris has been the likely Democratic nominee for a little more than a week now. How is her campaign strategy taking shape, Laura? Laura Barron-Lopez : Well, Vice President Harris, as well as former President Donald Trump, are out with new ad buys today, Geoff, trying to both define Kamala Harris. And Kamala Harris' campaign launched a $50 million ad buy, and that $50 million ad buy is trying to define the vice president, essentially looking back to her time as prosecutor, as attorney general in California, and they also are attempting to attack Donald Trump in that ad that is going to be playing across battleground states, specifically going at him on his attacks on the Affordable Care Act, Geoff. And the Harris campaign essentially says that they believe that now they have more than one pathway to 270 electoral votes. And so that's ultimately — they're focusing on states like Georgia, as well as the Sun Belt, much more than just the blue wall states. Geoff Bennett: Lastly, Laura, we're expecting the vice president to name her running mate in a matter of days. How is the vetting process shaping up? Laura Barron-Lopez : So, Vice President Harris, Geoff, was asked on her way here if she had picked her running mate yet, and she said not yet But that decision is going to be coming very soon, because, by August 7, Kamala Harris will be likely named the Democratic nominee. And so she has to pick her vice president by roughly August 6. And the people that sources close to the campaign tell me she's still considering include Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, as well as Arizona Senator Mark Kelly. And that decision is going to be coming very soon, Geoff, because sources close to the campaign tell me that, as early as next week, Harris is going to be out on the campaign trail with whoever she picks as her running mate.

Male, 54, who fatally stabbed teenager, wounded 4 young people amid river tubing fight receives his sentence

A controversial case involving a lethal stabbing confrontation between a 54-year-old man and several young people has ended with a 20-year prison sentence. Nicolae Miu of Prior Lake, Minnesota, was convicted in April of first-degree intentional homicide after he stabbed five people, killing one teenager, during the 2022 fight at the Apple River in Wisconsin near the Minnesota border. He also was convicted of four counts of recklessly endangering safety in the first degree. In one particularly emotional scene from the case, victim A.J. Martin recounted how he tried to stop the fight and ended up holding his intestines in his hands. He lifted up his shirt to show the gruesome scar left from the attack. On Wednesday, Miu hung his head as Judge R. Michael Waterman of St. Croix County (Wis.) District Court read the sentence. Harrowing video showed some of the bloody aftermath; 17-year-old Isaac Schuman from Minnesota was transported to a hospital where he was declared dead.Miu's defenders argued that he had been attacked and was responding in self-defense — and they pointed to disjointed testimony from young witnesses in the court case. Miu told police he believed one of the young people had his phone and that he was under threat. Investigators said he used a three-inch silver knife to stab at the group. One of the stabbing victims claimed in a GoFundMe page that Miu had acted inappropriately toward the group prior to the stabbing and was asked to leave but refused. In one particularly emotional scene from the case, victim A.J. Martin recounted how he tried to stop the fight and ended up holding his intestines in his hands. He lifted up his shirt to show the gruesome scar left from the attack. Prosecutors had asked for a 70-year prison sentence. Miu will be placed on six years of extended supervision after serving his sentence. "I hope that monster suffers as much as I do every day until he gets to hell," said Schuman's mother, Alina Hernandez, at trial. Like Blaze News? Russell Brand explores what was revealed by the Olympics' symbolic attack on Christianity

Before cobbling together the first of several failed republics, French revolutionaries slaughtered Christian clerics, looted churches, banned Catholicism, and embarked on a campaign to altogether de-Christianize the country. Some revolutionaries went so far as to attempt to replace the longstanding state religion with the atheistic Cult of Reason. To this end, cultists swapped out the remaining religious statues in Notre Dame Cathedral for secular busts, engaged in rituals mocking those once practiced on the altar, and paraded around hyper-sexualized women, including an actress meant to portray the goddess of reason. In a similar spirit, the French kicked off the 2024 Olympics with anti-Christian mockery and substitution — although this time, they opted for men pretending to be hyper-sexualized women. The ceremony's designer, Thomas Jolly, staged a scene for broadcast clearly intended to resemble Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper." However, instead of faithfully depicting Christ and his apostles, Jolly had a cast of transvestites strike iconic poses on either side of a morbidly obese individual wearing a crown-like halo. 'They attempt, in fact, to obdurate the very principle of the divine.' Later, a virtually naked man painted blue — who was apparently supposed to be Dionysus, the Greek god of wine-making and ritual madness — who was set upon the table on a plate in front of the mock apostolate proceeded to sing. In a recent op-ed for Blaze News, Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) noted: In European history, conquerors often commemorated and widely publicized their victories by replacing the sacred religious symbols of the conquered with their own. In some cases, the conquerors obliterated the sacred landmarks and symbols, building new ones on top of those built and maintained by their predecessors. In other cases, the conquerors would commandeer pre-existing religious symbols and structures, making significant modifications to reflect the values and goals of the conquering authority. Newly baptized actor and podcast host Russell Brand recently pondered precisely what symbols these would-be conquerors are attempting to advance as well as what is ultimately at the heart of the French's latest cultish display. "I wonder when it became explicit that what we are engaged in is a type of spiritual warfare; that secularism, rationalism, and materialism themselves are kind of godless, not even pantheistic or pagan faiths," said Brand. "They attempt, in fact, to obdurate the very principle of the divine." Brand noted further that he was struck by the "deliberate evocation of Christian imagery in order to what? Deride it? In order to what? Attack it? Undermine it? What are the values that are being proposed here? Is it hedonism? Is it decadence? Is it individualism? Is it that the self — your own personal set of decrees, desires and edicts are the apex and supreme hierarchy of ideologies? That there is nothing superior and supreme to which we have to surrender?" Brand concluded that what is behind this propaganda is in line with the project of the Paris' 18th century cultists of reason: to "derail the sacred and engender a kind of state of nihilism where everything might be regarded as a truth." While the podcast host later indicated he was not altogether convinced that the coloration of the Dionysus character in a corpse-like color and his presentation as a meal was intended to be a direct mockery of the Eucharist, he said the display was at the very least oriented toward "nihilism, unbelief, celebration of selfishness." On the basis of Brand's comments in a video posted Wednesday to his X account, it appears he regards this nihilistic project as a trap for the soul. "There are times when I've told you that I felt far for Christ," said Brand. "This is a verse that brought me back into connection with our Lord. It's from Isaiah. 'Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have called you by your name. You are mine.'" "My feelings of faith have altered lately because I've had the sense that through fear I might take back my self will, that I might, through fear, think I have to be in control of the situation," continued Brand. "If you feel that you are being attacked, if you are under threat, it seems obvious, rational, sensible, to take back control." "But the sensation of faith — allowing Christ in His sub-molecular potency, right down to the granule, right out into the cosmological, to order all things, for we are dealing with the king of eternity," added Brand. Brand noted that surrender to Christ means liberation from "the cubic reality afforded to you by materialism and rationalism, and into a transcendent realm where you are given grace — where once I have accepted sin and surrendered, and allowed Him to carry me, I am granted a new freedom. ... I don't belong to myself anymore and that is true freedom." Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

JD Vance visits southern border, slams Kamala Harris' failures as border czar

JD Vance, the Republican freshman senator from Ohio and now Donald Trump's running mate, visited the southern border on Thursday to highlight Kamala Harris' failures as border czar to prevent illegal immigrants and deadly drugs like fentanyl from pouring into the United States.Dressed in jeans, boots, and a plaid shirt, Vance stumped an area of southern Arizona known as "smuggler's paradise," talking about the border "crisis" under "Kamala Harris' administration."'They are BEGGING the American president and vice president for leadership, and their own border czar ignores them.'"They stopped deportations on day one. They stopped construction of the border wall on day one," Vance claimed. As he did during his speech at the RNC last month, Vance made the issues at the border personal, once again sharing his mother's former struggles with substance abuse. Vance recalled one particular occasion from his childhood when he prayed fervently for Jesus to help her "wake up" from an apparent drug overdose."The unfortunate truth is, because of the poison that Kamala Harris has let come into this country, there are a lot of those prayers that won't be answered. There are a lot of parents that won't wake up because when you take fentanyl, you don't wake up," he explained.Vance said that despite the manifold problems at the border, the solutions are simple: Deport those here illegally, process asylum-seekers in Mexico, end catch-and-release, and finish the wall."If people could come into this country, and they know they’re never going to be deported, you effectively have an open border," Vance argued. "That’s what Kamala Harris promised. That’s what Kamala Harris did.""This is not rocket science."Vance also claimed that many border officials, including current National Border Patrol Council president Paul Perez and former council president Brandon Judd, have repeatedly importuned Harris for help, only to be ignored."They send letters, they make phone calls," Vance claimed. "They are BEGGING the American president and vice president for leadership, and their own border czar ignores them."Finally, Vance called out the media for spreading "lies" about Harris' role as border czar. "It's just unbelievable what we're letting happen at the southern border, and we're letting it happen because Kamala Harris refuses to do her job," he said."The media needs to tell the truth, and Kamala Harris needs to change course on this crazy border mess."Since she was appointed by Joe Biden to be the administration's border czar in March 2021, Harris has visited the southern border once. She went there in June 2021 after Lester Holt pressed her on the issue during an interview that later went viral because of her poor performance and after Trump, who was then no longer in office, decided to host a town hall meeting near the border with Republican Gov. Greg Abbott of Texas.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors, sign up for our newsletters, and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

Is 'white women for Kamala' Zoom call an example of REAL white supremacy?

Kamala Harris’ campaign is attempting to target every group – the youth, the LGBTQ+ crowd (obviously), white men, and now also white women. In a Zoom call of nearly 170,000 people, including certain celebrities, Kamala Harris hosted a discussion about how white women could best support the vice president in her 2024 presidential campaign. The call was as cringey as it was glitchy. Try Not to Cringe! | Liberal "White Women" have 'Pro-Kamala Zoom Call' www.youtube.com As the online discussion cut in and out, white women checked all the woke boxes: They owned their inherent white privilege, they paid homage to the feminist movement, they pointed to the white men who instilled their privilege, and they thanked women of color for their courage to strive for equality. “As white women, we are the ones that have the privilege, of course, and we too have had to fight and continue to fight for our equality, our selfhood, our freedom, but we have whatever privileges our male white male counterparts have had the mercy and good sense to bestow on us and then whatever else of it we have managed to take for ourselves, often being led by … our sisters of color, who have fought and fought and continue to fight for their righteous place on God's green earth,” actress Connie Britton said, ticking off every leftist talking point. An influencer by the name of Arielle Fodor also made sure that the right precedent was set prior to opening the floor for speakers: “If you find yourself talking over or speaking for BIPOC [black, indigenous, and people of color] individuals or, God forbid, correcting them – just take a beat and instead we can put our listening ears on. So do learn from and amplify the voices of those who have been historically marginalized and use the privilege you have in order to push for systemic change. As white people we have a lot to learn and unlearn, so do check your blind spots.” Are you cringing yet? Glenn Beck and guest Bridget Phetasy certainly are. “It is actually white supremacy,” Phetasy says of the white women on Kamala’s call. “You have to believe you are better than everyone else and that it is up to you to lift up all of these people – these poor people who can't help themselves – and speak to everybody like they’re toddlers.” However contradictory the idea is, Phetasy can’t deny that it’s an effective way to rally the people. “What is more important than saving the world while also somehow humbling yourself and recognizing your privilege?” she asks. “Is this going to work?” asks Glenn. To hear Phetasy’s response, watch the clip above.
