Cat Perched on the Side of Highway with No Escape‚ People Rallied to Save Him So He Could Live the Good Life

A cat perched on the side of a highway with no path to escape. People rallied to save him so he could live the good life. AxelGood Karma Pet RescueEarlier this year‚ volunteers of Good Karma Pet Rescue received a heartbreaking text about an orange cat stuck on the side of I-95 with no path to escape. The cat had somehow got on the highway and was terrified by the rush hour traffic. Angela‚ a foster volunteer of the rescue‚ was in the area en route to work when she was notified about the cat.She immediately went to find him and was shocked to see the cat clinging precariously to a concrete barrier. He was found stranded on the highwayGood Karma Pet RescueHe was frozen in fear‚ pinned against a fence with no way to escape. "Due to road construction‚ there was only about a foot of space between the busy lanes and the concrete‚ fenced barrier he was sitting on‚" the rescue shared. They began calling contacts to mobilize help‚ and within minutes‚ road agent Maria of Broward County Animal Care rushed to the location where she connected with Angela. Good Karma Pet RescueAfter learning where the cat was stranded‚ Maria called for help‚ and a state trooper arrived to flash his lights for safety. When the lane was clear of traffic‚ Maria was able to secure the cat and safely bring him into a crate. The cat named Axel was a bit shaken after the long ordeal but relieved to know he was away from the endless torrent of cars. He began to relax to the soothing voice of his rescuer. Good Karma Pet RescueAxel had road rash on his paws and a few broken claws from desperately trying to escape the highway‚ but he was otherwise in good shape. He was about one year old‚ neutered‚ but didn't have a microchip. He was friendly and seemed appreciative of the care he was getting. Good Karma Pet RescueHe rubbed against his crate‚ purring‚ and craved pets and affection. "It was amazing considering what he just went through."A foster family opened their home to Axel and provided a comfortable space for him to heal. "Since his incredible rescue‚ he's visited the vet and got a clean bill of health‚ and relaxed into a new environment." Good Karma Pet RescueOnce indoors‚ Axel came out of his shell‚ and his personality truly shone. He enjoyed lounging on the couch while supervising his people‚ and he decided to befriend everyone he met."He is great with other cats‚ to the point that he thinks everyone is a friend‚ and immediately goes in to bump heads when he doesn't even know the other cat and is surprised if the other cat is unfriendly." He has extra toes on his front pawsGood Karma Pet RescueHis love doesn't discriminate‚ and he adores the company of both cats and dogs. He's a social butterfly and thrives in a multi-cat household.Axel likes to join the cat-friendly resident dog in the kitchen‚ begging for attention and snacks. "He is talkative‚ silly‚ and comes equipped with extra toes on his front feet." He enjoys the company of both cats and dogsGood Karma Pet RescueHe is adept at wrestling with toys with his polydactyl paws‚ which give him a powerful grip.Axel is adventurous and boisterous‚ full of endearing orange cat behaviors. He plays to his heart's content and rubs his face into a catnip toy until he passes out in bliss. Good Karma Pet RescueThanks to the help of many kind people‚ those cold nights and lonely days are a thing of the past for Axel. He is living each day to the fullest‚ enjoying the good life he deserves. Good Karma Pet RescueShare this story with your friends. Minor league baseball team accused of insensitivity for naming mascot after weight-loss drug

A minor league baseball team in Minnesota will keep the name of its pig mascot despite an outcry on social media about possible insensitivity. The St. Paul Saints‚ a Triple-A club affiliated with the Minnesota Twins‚ have had a new pig with its own unique name as a mascot every year ever since the team moved to St. Paul‚ Minnesota‚ in 1992. Over the years‚ fans have submitted fun and creative suggestions for the team's oinker: Notorious P.I.G. – Piggy Smalls in 2003‚ Daenerys Hoggaryen in 2019‚ and 867530Swine in 2022.This year was no different. After careful consideration‚ the team selected OzemPig‚ a play on the name of the popular weight-loss drug Ozempic. In a statement to announce the name‚ the team even offered a cute backstory‚ claiming that Saints' pigs often feel "self-conscious" about gaining weight but that this year's mascot decided "a change was in order.""After a visit to his doctor‚ who was extremely worried about his cholesterol and heart‚ OzemPig vowed to change his lifestyle‚" the statement explained.OzemPig‚ suggested by Sara Blood of Minneapolis‚ beat out other tough contenders among the 2‚300 submissions this year‚ which included Sloppenheimer‚ Porky Blinders‚ Malibu Lardie‚ and Artifisqueal Intelligence. However‚ as the team has recently decided to have a different mascot for the first half and second half of the season‚ OzemPig will "show off his abs and defined hocks" for crowds gathered at CHS Field only until July. — (@) Though the name is all in good fun‚ some scolds on social media slammed the team for insensitivity. One user called the name OzemPig "offensive." Another asked‚ "How do you think fat people will feel showing up to your games?" Yet another threatened never to take their family to a game again on account of it: "Mean-spirited and gross. Why be a bully when you could just be kind? That's what I tell my kids I take to your games anyways. Change this or that won't happen anymore."Despite those objections‚ executives in the front office are standing by their pig and its supposedly controversial name. "We knew how we originally came up with the name and we’re good with it‚" said Sean Aronson‚ the Saints’ vice president and media relations director‚ "but we did discuss it and decided we’re going to keep it.""In today’s world‚ people don’t want to be diminished. They don’t want to be made to feel a certain way‚ and I’m not going to tell them how they feel is wrong‚" Aronson added. "But I can tell you there was no ill-intent‚ there was no maliciousness‚ there was never even a discussion in the room when we were going over the name that hey‚ this may offend some people." Novo Nordisk‚ which manufactures and markets Ozempic‚ did not respond to Blaze News' request for comment. The Saints were all set to kick off their season on Friday with a home game against the Columbus Clippers‚ but a springtime blizzard‚ which dumped 18 inches of snow in the area earlier this week‚ meant that the field will not be ready for play until the afternoon game against the Clippers on Saturday.Last year‚ the Saints finished in first place in the West Division of the International League with an impressive 84-64 regular-season record. The Clippers finished dead last.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!

WSJ marks grim 1-year anniversary of reporter's wrongful detention in Russia

The Wall Street Journal marked the grim one-year anniversary of reporter Evan Gershkovich's detention in Russia by leaving a large blank space on "the front page of a special section wrapping" Friday's paper. "HIS STORY SHOULD BE HERE‚" text blared above the gaping visual void. — (@) The Journal's Eliot Brown‚ who calls Gershkovich a friend‚ noted that Russian authorities detained Gershkovich on March 29‚ 2023. The 32-year-old imprisoned journalist remains in his cell for 23 hours per day‚ Brown wrote‚ adding‚ "He meets with his Russian lawyers weekly‚ and periodically goes to court where a judge extends his pretrial detention.""It's a very small‚ very isolated place with a small window and very little time outside‚" Gershkovich's father‚ Mikhail Gershkovich‚ said of his son's cell‚ the New York Times reported. "We know it takes a lot of courage and effort and strength to stay put together‚ to exercise‚ to meditate‚ to read books‚ to write letters‚ to encourage us to stay strong and hope for the best."The father and son play chess through the mail. "Every day is very hard — every day we feel that he is not here‚" Gershkovich's mother Ella Milman said‚ according to the Times.President Joe Biden marked the "painful anniversary" in a statement on Friday. "To Evan‚ to Paul Whelan‚ and to all Americans held hostage or wrongfully detained abroad: We are with you. And we will never stop working to bring you home‚" Biden said in the statement.Wall Street Journal editor in chief Emma Tucker has noted that "Evan stands accused of espionage‚ which Evan‚ the U.S. government and we vehemently deny." Chilling video shows moment California man attempts to kidnap 8-year-old in front of dad‚ abduction thwarted by good Samaritans

Gripping video shows the hair-raising moment when a California man attempts to kidnap an 8-year-old boy right in front of his father. Thankfully‚ good Samaritans step in to thwart the heinous abduction attempt. Adrian Villanueva was with his family enjoying dinner on Wednesday night in Ocean Beach‚ California. Suddenly‚ a man came up behind Villanueva's 8-year-old son and seemingly appeared to attempt to abduct the boy right in front of the concerned father. The boy had been playing on the sidewalk when the man allegedly attempted to kidnap the boy. Chilling video shows Villanueva jumping into action to stop the apparent child predator from kidnapping his young son. The alleged kidnapper reportedly told Villanueva‚ "This my son‚ this is my son."Villanueva told KMFB-TV‚ "I pushed him. I said‚ 'No‚ he is not your son‚' and then I tried to get him out. And that’s when he grabbed my kid‚ and he started running away through the street."Good Samaritans and security guards from nearby bars helped thwart the kidnapping attempt and restrained the suspect. The man was held until police arrived to arrest the suspect. Villanueva expressed that he initially sympathized with the suspect and didn't want to press charges. The suspect was allegedly crying and repeatedly saying‚ "I miss my family." Villanueva said‚ "Because my human side said this guy‚ he was missing his child."However‚ Villanueva reconsidered after thinking about the potential for more crimes against children. "Today was my kid‚ tomorrow can be someone else kid. So that’s why I'm pressing the charges‚" said Villanueva. The San Diego Police Department said Christopher Higginbotham‚ 38‚ was arrested and charged with false imprisonment and battery.Villanueva's son is traumatized over the kidnapping attempt‚ telling his father he never wants to go back to the area where he was almost abducted. The boy said there are "bad people on the streets" and begged his father to never take him back to the area. However‚ Villanueva is a part owner of a deli in the area that opened a week ago. Villanueva noted‚ "He was crying. And then I feel so bad for him. I feel so bad. I feel terrified when I saw somebody taking my kid."Citing jail records‚ KMFB-TV reported that Higginbotham is a wanted fugitive with a "history of felony convictions involving assault with a deadly weapon." ICE arrests illegal alien TikTok influencer who told migrants to seize vacant homes in the US through squatter's rights

ICE arrests illegal alien TikTok influencer who told migrants to seize vacant homes in the US through squatter's rights

An illegal immigrant TikTok influencer from Venezuela was arrested on Friday after bragging about his ability to siphon money from hard-working U.S. taxpayers. Leonel Moreno went viral when he posted a video telling prospective illegal immigrants that they could take advantage of squatters’ rights laws to seize vacant homes in the U.S. ICE confirmed to Fox News that Moreno had entered the U.S. illegally in April 2022 and had been released under a program that ordered him to report back in 60 days. He neglected to do so and became a fugitive. "Moreno was arrested in Gahanna‚ Ohio by officers with ERO Detroit’s Columbus office and is currently detained pending further immigration proceedings‚" read a statement from ICE to the New York Post. The 27-year-old had been recording videos on social media from Columbus‚ Ohio‚ where he lived with his girlfriend and their child. He has claimed that he has not worked a day since he arrived in the U.S. and said his family receives $350 a month from the federal government in aid. Moreno’s account on TikTok has been suspended. He had amassed over half a million followers on the short video platform. "I don't like to work‚" Moreno said in a video according to Newsweek. "Boys‚ in the U.S. there are a million tricks‚ a million things to do." In another video‚ he said he was able to make $1‚000 a day through panhandling. “You’re hurt because I make more than you without much work while you work like slaves‚ understand?” said Moreno in a video documented by the Post. “That’s the difference between you and me. I’m always going to make lots of money without much work‚ and you’re always going to be exploited and miserable and insignificant.” Moreno lamented that his TikTok account had been suspended‚ but he said he would continue to make money based on his Instagram and Facebook accounts. His Instagram has far fewer followers‚ about 17k. He also made headlines in February when he called on his followers to donate money in order to financially support a 15-year-old immigrant accused of shooting a 37-year-old woman in Times Square while he was firing at a security officer. “Because today it could have been him‚ tomorrow it could be you. Remember that life is a boomerang‚" he said at the time. "He did something wrong‚ it's okay‚ but you can hit someone‚ you can have an accident. You can go through difficult times where they judge you.” Here's more about Moreno's scam: Like Blaze News?
