Charlie Brown Praised For Fixing Black Character’s ‘Racist’ Seating Arrangement Decades Later

The new special‚ Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home‚ Franklin‚ finally rights a wrong that was committed 56 years ago in A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving‚ where Franklin Armstrong‚ the black Peanuts character that was introduced in 1968 following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King‚ was made to sit alone on one side of the table while Snoopy‚ Sally‚ Linus‚ and Peppermint Patty sat on the other side. Though it took the creators so many years‚ viewers are happy it’s happening. An X user could not contain their excitement‚ “Oh my god‚ they fixed it‚” they wrote alongside a picture that shows Franklin sitting with the other characters. Charlie Brown “fixes” black character’s seating arrangement in Thanksgiving special X The Apple TV+ special focuses on Franklin and his journey of winning the Peanuts Gang to his side. The trailer tells his story of how he had lived in several towns because his dad is a military man‚ and he moves into Charlie Brown’s neighborhood and struggles to get anyone apart from Charlie Brown to be his friend. RELATED: Snoopy‚ Charlie Brown‚ And the Whole Peanuts Gang Are Getting A New Show Remembering his grandfather’s words‚ everyone loves a winner; he sprung into action by building a special car to race in the town’s Soap Box Derby Race with Charlie Brown as his partner. The latter end of the trailer shows Franklin planning to continue the 1973 trend until Charlie Brown shouts‚ “Hey Franklin‚ we saved you a seat over here!” X Fans Are Happy Charlie Brown Broke The Chain “They came through with a special for Franklin. That’s how you honor a Black Peanuts character!” an X user said about the special. Social media peeps have reacted positively to the trailer‚ which was released recently and set to premiere globally on February 16. Though this is on a good note‚ going back to memory lane‚ Franklin Armstrong might not have existed if not for the original creator‚ Charles M. Schulz’s‚ insistence on keeping the character. Annie Lennox Calls For Peace In Grammys Tribute To Sinéad O’Connor

The world of music had much to celebrate at the 2024 Grammy Awards over the weekend‚ but there was also mourning‚ as many stars could not be there on that celebratory night. This year’s In Memoriam saw legendary Annie Lennox perform‚ and she paid particular tribute to Sinéad O’Connor as she set time aside to call for an end to violence overseas. Lennox was joined by Stevie Wonder and Jon Batiste to honor the musical artists who most recently passed. Wonder started the dedication segment by honoring Tony Bennett‚ recalling the formative first time he heard Bennett sing “For Once in My Life.” Lennox’s song of choice to honor O’Connor was the Prince song “Nothing Compares 2 U‚” but she also paid tribute to O’Connor’s history of advocating for peace. Annie Lennox paid tribute to Sinéad O’Connor as a musician and an activist at the Grammys Annie Lennox singing Prince's "Nothing Compares 2 U" as arranged Sinead O'Connor as the Grammys In Memoriam and calling for a ceasefire and peace is a really sad but lovely tributepic.twitter.com/aMtwzGGan8 — Darth Ro (@BookBlerd) February 5‚ 2024 After a string of images appeared on-screen for the Grammys In Memoriam segment‚ Lennox took the stage to celebrate the career and philanthropy of O’Connor. She was accompanied by artists Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman‚ members of Prince’s band. Together‚ they performed “Nothing Compares 2 U‚” which was originally written by Prince but has become synonymous with O’Connor after her 1990 recording earned her a Grammy and newfound recognition. RELATED: Unreleased Sinéad O’Connor Song Debuts On BBC Show Following Her Death 69-year-old Lennox was dressed in a dark outfit with a few bright-colored embellishments. She kept her signature light hair cut short and wore a shimmering silver tear on her cheek‚ which might have been joined by real tears as she grew emotional through the tributes. Finally‚ she raised a fist into the air and declared‚ “Artists for ceasefire. Peace in the world.” Lennox drew attention to the way O’Connor used her platform to address important issues Annie Lennox honored Sinéad O’Connor as a musician and an activist / ©MTV / courtesy Everett Collection O’Connor became a household name thanks to her music‚ with the Billboard Music Awards honoring “Nothing Compares 2 U” as the top world single of the year‚ and 2021’s Rememberings hitting bestseller status‚ just two years before O’Connor’s death in July 2023. Sinéad O’Connor / Everett Collection With that international platform secured‚ O’Connor also made sure she became synonymous with tackling serious issues such as women’s rights‚ child abuse‚ racism‚ and human rights. O’Connor felt sympathy for Palestinian civilians she felt were treated inhumanely by the Israeli government and refused to perform in the country‚ saying‚ “Let’s just say that‚ on a human level‚ nobody with any sanity‚ including myself‚ would have anything but sympathy for the Palestinian plight.” O’Connor drew attention to women’s issues‚ and even wrote to Miley Cyrus after the release of the latter’s music video for “Wrecking Ball.” In an open letter to Cyrus‚ O’Connor warned Cyrus of the treatment of women in the music industry over sexuality. Initially‚ Cyrus dismissed the letter and referenced O’Connor’s mental health history. After O’Connor’s death‚ Cyrus publically apologized for her response years ago. Billy Joel Makes Nostalgic Comeback With First New Song In 17 Years

Billy Joel fans were in for a pleasant surprise after the singer-songwriter released his first original song in 17 years. He announced the release‚ which he performed during the recent 66th Grammy Awards‚ on Instagram with the caption‚ “It’s time to TURN THE LIGHTS BACK ON. Brand new single coming February 1st. Pre-order now at the link in bio!” Joel’s last releases were “All My Life” for his ex-wife Katie Lee‚ and “Christmas in Fallujah‚” in collaboration with Cass Dillon in 2007. He had spoken about his comeback in 2019 and last year during a stage performance. “We’ve got a little something we’ve been working on you might hear sometime‚” he assured the audience. Billy Joel’s new song is out now and channels his roots Instagram The song features contributions from Arthur Bacon‚ Wayne Hector‚ and producer Freddy Wexler‚ who has worked with Ariana Grande‚ Selena Gomez‚ and Post Malone. “Turn The Lights Back On” is now available on a limited-edition 7-inch vinyl‚ along with a new lyric video that can be found on his official YouTube channel. It is likely part of music Joel has held back for so long that “no one may ever hear if I don’t decide to do something with it.” RELATED: Billy Joel Releasing First Single In Nearly 20 Years — Expect Return To Classics For Joel‚ the “creative process” is the priority rather than “having records on the charts or selling a lot of recordings.” The track’s chorus might relate to his hiatus from the spotlight and taking so long to create again as well. “I’m late‚ but I’m here right now‚ and I’m trying to find the magic that we lost somehow…Did I wait too long to turn the lights back on?” he asked. Instagram Why did Billy Joel take a break? Joel retired from songwriting after 1993’s River Of Dreams‚ which did not succeed as much as he had expected. “The thing was‚ I put a lot of work into ‘River of Dreams’‚ and it was as if the business had left me behind because there are substantial songs on that album that never went anywhere‚” he admitted. “It was time. I couldn’t be as good as I wanted‚ and that was driving me crazy. I thought this is ridiculous. So I stopped.” Instagram He also developed a drinking problem after resorting to alcohol “to try and ease the pain of not being as good as I wanted to be. It was a vicious cycle‚ so I stopped.” Amid his battles with feeling inadequate‚ Joel did not stop performing‚ and his 10-year Madison Square Garden residency ends this year. “I don’t know how many shows it is‚ I’m sure somebody’s keeping track of it somewhere‚ but I’m amazed that we went this far‚ and I’m honored‚” he said.
