A writer for the Nickelodeon animated children’s series “The Fairly OddParents” explained why one of the character names had to change. In a new episode of the spinoff series “The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish,” the son of main characters Cosmo and Wanda announces that he has a new name. “Hey kid, I’m Poof — or at least I was,” he says in the episode. “I changed my name to Peri, like Peri-winkle.” “Fairly OddParents” writer, producer, and star Ashleigh Crystal Hairston explained the name change with an X post. “The former name is a slur in many countries and cannot be used,” she wrote. According to Merriam-Webster, “poof” is used as “a term of abuse and disparagement” for gay men in British English. The original “Fairly OddParents” series follows the main character Timmy Turner, a 10-year-old boy, as he goes about his life with two fairy godparents named Cosmo and Wanda. The godparents grant his wishes to make life easier and overcome obstacles. The series originated with shorts on Nickelodeon and aired from 1998 to 2002. It became very popular and was eventually developed into a half-hour series that premiered in March 2001. It ended in 2006 and was revived in 2008, making it Nickelodeon’s second-longest-running series ever, with only “SpongeBob SquarePants” going on for longer. The series has had several spinoffs, including a live-action series on Paramount+ and several live-action TV movies starring Drake Bell as Timmy. “The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder” came out in 2022, while this latest iteration, “The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish” premiered in May 2024. Peri, originally named Poof, was introduced in 2008 as a baby who caused drama with the relationship between Timmy Turner and his fairy godparents when he was born. Poof was the first fairy baby born in thousands of years. The new version of Peri grown up looks just like a combination of his parents Cosmo and Wanda.

Actor Keanu Reeves is working on a book and has been thinking a lot about his own mortality. The star of “The Matrix” told BBC News, “I’m 59, so I’m thinking about death all the time.” Reeves said he sees that as a positive. “Hopefully it’s not crippling, but hopefully it’s sensitized [us] to an appreciation of the breath we have, and the relationships that we have the potential to have,” he told the outlet. The actor’s first novel, “The Book of Elsewhere,” is being written in collaboration with British science fiction author China Miéville. The story follows an immortal warrior who wishes for death. The novel will be based on Reeves’ popular BRZRKR (“Berserker”) comic book series. BBC noted that besides turning the comics into a book, a Netflix adaptation, and anime series are in the works. “I love the images,” the actor said of his creation. “I love words and storytelling and I love the way that you can have this engagement that overlays. And so you can look at the art and then you can follow the story.” Miéville praised Reeves’ efforts, saying, “[The book] wouldn’t exist in the form without a lot of very thoughtful and careful work with Keanu.” Fans have pointed out the similarities between BRZRKR and Reeves’ real life. Reeves discussed the inclusion of violence in the comic book series. “I think it was influenced by some of the action films that I had done,” he told BBC. “Maybe ultimately the fantasy of building another world brings some kind of comfort in some way,” Reeves went on. “There’s something ultimately about the creative gesture that comes from pain.” “Creating stuff is great. Just creating, sharing and hopefully people like the stories that we tell,” he said. Reeves recently teamed up with Sandra Bullock to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their hit action film, “Speed,” and discussed their openness to working together again. Their conversation was peppered with jokes about aging. “Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera,” Bullock said in May, as The Daily Wire previously reported. “Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers?” she asked. “Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?” “It does feel like there is a siren call to it, like there’s something that wasn’t done,” Reeves replied. “I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”

And I think several of these universities the leaders across the country just simply losing control of the situation. They have a responsibility to keep students safe. Students shouldn’t be blocked from going to campus just because they’re Jewish, or learning in a classroom as opposed to being forced online because they’re Jewish. It is simply unacceptable.” “And you know what? I think it’ll be a different crowd that’s protesting when we get to a convention.” In April, when pro-Hamas protesters shut down routes in Chicago to its major airport, Pritzker stated, “I think they can have their voices heard and let people move along their day.”

If you’re a fellow *NSYNC fan, boy do I have some exciting news for you! Chris Kirkpatrick, one of the famous five in the boy band, was talking to ET this past Monday during the New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine, and he dished all sorts of incredible insights. First and foremost, one of their biggest hit songs, Bye, Bye, Bye, is featured in this new film. However, that was not the only juicy piece of news Chris dished. He also hinted at an *NSYNC reunion! This is something I know we can all be excited about. This Boy Band Has Still Got It Speaking of excitement, Chris’s clearly matches our own because when ET’s Rachel Smith asked him about the call asking to use their song in the film, he said, “I saw Deadpool right away, and I was like, ‘I will out-vote everybody in this band.'” Clearly, the boy band is honored that after 25 years, fans are still loving their music. While I Will Always Love You is touted as one of Whitney Houston’s signature songs, some people do not know that she was not the original songwriter. She mentions how Kevin Costner’s secretary had called her and asked for permission to take a copy of her song. Parton granted Costner and his team permission to use it and that was the last she heard about it. Dolly then goes into detail about the first time she recalls hearing Whitney Houston’s version of the song. The singer-songwriter mentions how she was driving on her way home. She was listening to the radio when she heard the song come on. Then she goes on to say, ” I heard the A cappella and it was like a dog that hears its name or something”. Parton admits that it didn’t immediately register that it was her song but that it sounded familiar to her. Once Houston got into the famous I Will Always Love You section of the song that is when Parton recognized it. Dolly states, “Honest to goodness, I almost wrecked…I had to pull over because I was so caught up in it.” She then goes on to say, “It was the most overwhelming feeling. That that little song of mine could be done so beautifully, so big, so overwhelming, that I really almost had a heart attack right there on the spot.” Well, Dolly, we are happy you didn’t have a heart attack and that you pulled over safely to listen.
