EMMY AWARDS ROUNDUP: ‘Childless Cat Lady Jokes,’ Identity Politics Overload & No Talk of Presidential Candidates

Celebrities participating in the 76th annual Emmy Awards on Sunday on ABC surprisingly steered clear of presidential politics this election season, despite a couple of jabs directed at vice-presidential candidate JD Vance and his past ‘childless cat lady' remarks that were taken out of context and overblown by the left.  Within the first 10 minutes of the show, singer and actress Selena Gomez took a veiled swipe at Vance while directing a joke at her Only Murders in the Building co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, calling them “childless cat ladies.” Martin Short: And Steve, let me just say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like he's fallen and can't get up. Steve Martin: And let me say what an honor it is for me to be working with someone who looks like a former women's tennis champion. Selena Gomez: And let me say what an honor it is work with two guys who are this far away from being ‘childless cat ladies.’ Actress Candice Bergen also got her claws out, going after Vance with another cat lady jab while presenting the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. Candice Bergen: I was surrounded by brilliant and funny actors, had the best scripts to work with and in one classic moment, my character was attacked by Vice President Dan Quayle when Murphy became pregnant and decided to raise the baby as a single mother. Oh how far we’ve come. Today, a Republican candidate for vice president would never attack a woman for having kids. So as they say, my work here is done. Meow! Aside from the cat lady jokes, there was no mention of the presidential candidates or even the current sitting president, Joe Biden, which is rather surprising considering how politically vocal celebrities were during the former President Donald Trump's administration. While the speakers were mum on presidential politics, they weren’t mum on identity politics, as it was center stage throughout the 3-hour show. Actor John Leguizamo attempted to take a dig at Republicans, who take issue with forced ‘DEI’ (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) initiatives, by sarcastically saying he was a Hollywood ‘DEI’ hire. Leguizamo, who was born in Columbia, then went on a rant about the historic lack of diversity in Hollywood and the stereotypical roles assigned to Latino actors. While the actor celebrated progress related to the matter, he still called for Hollywood to do more to tell the stories of ‘excluded groups.’ John leguizamo: Hi, I'm John leguizamo. I'm one of Hollywood's DEI hires. That's right, DEI. The D is for diligence. The E is for excellence. The I is for imagination. Everyone in this room tonight has dedicated their lives to diligence, excellence, and imagination. And we are all DEI hires. What a beautiful and diverse room this is tonight. When I was growing up in Jackson heights, queens, a scrawny little wannabe gangster, you're not from queens, don't lie, I didn't even know that people like me could be actors. At fifteen, I didn't know the word representation. Actually, there were lots of words I didn't know back then. But I saw a lot of brown face. I saw Marlon Brando play Emiliano Zapata in "Viva Zapata," and Al Pacino play Cuban gangster Tony Montana, and Natalie wood play a Puerto Rican beauty named -- ♪ Maria ♪ everybody played us except us. I didn't see a lot of people on TV who looked like me. Of course, there was Ricky Ricardo. "Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do." I know some of you remember the Looney Tunes cartoon mouse and his lethargic, useless sidekick, Speedy Gonzales, "The fastest mouse in all Mexico," and his lethargic, useless sidekick Slowpoke Rodriguez. "Sorry, Senior Pussycat. I can't play with you no more. It's time for my siesta." That's how we saw ourselves, because that's all we saw of ourselves. Someone should alert Leguizamo that it’s not 'racist' Republicans calling the shots when it comes to script writing and role casting in Liberal Hollywood. Just sayin'.  Speaking of casting, Nava Mau apparently made Hollywood history by being the first Latina Trans nominee for Best Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for a role played in Baby Reindeer. Mau didn't actually win the category, but received significant praise and recognition from liberal media.    Baby Reindeer's Nava Mau shares a powerful message for transgender representation at the #Emmys. ? pic.twitter.com/sWHWw2tD5W — E! Alexander Vindman tries to outdo his wife's ghoulish response to the latest attempt on Trump's life

Kamala Harris booster Alexander Vindman and his wife seized upon the second attempted assassination of President Donald Trump as another opportunity to attack the Republican. Their latest salvos did not go over well online. Vindman served as the star witness in the impeachment inquiry regarding President Donald Trump's July 25, 2019, phone call with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In the years since, the Ukrainian-born former White House official has leaned hard into his new career criticizing Trump. Days after Vindman reposted a Harris promotional video containing an unsubstantiated smear and the claim that "Trump is a danger to national security," a Democratic donor with an intense interest in Ukraine's war effort allegedly set about killing Trump in Florida. Following reports of gunshots outside the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach and a possible assassination attempt, many went online to express concern for Trump and his family — including President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Vindman and his wife alternatively channeled their hatred of Trump. Shortly after the assassination attempt was thwarted, Rachel Vindman, the Harris booster's wife, tweeted, "No ears were harmed. Carry on with your Sunday afternoon." 'The "tolerance" of the "Left" ladies and gentlemen.' Rachel Vindman was evidently making light of two shootings: the latest as well as the assassination attempt on July 13 when Trump was shot, former firefighter Corey Comperatore died trying to protect his family, and two others were badly injured. Some found it hard to believe that the Harris booster's wife would rush to make such a callous comment. Former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson asked, "Did you really just say this?" Comedian Rob Schneider wrote, "The 'tolerance' of the 'Left' ladies and gentlemen. At least these demons expose themselves as the loathsome cold hearted charlatans that they are." Rep. Mike Waltz (R-Fla.) wrote, "Does this represent the stance of the whole Vindman family? Especially the one running for Congress?" Waltz was referring to Alexander Vindman's twin, Eugene Vindman, who is running for Congress as a Democrat in Virginia's 7th District. Fox News host Laura Ingraham wrote, "This lovely specimen is the wife of chief impeachment witness against Trump Alexander Vindman. Today she mocked the 2nd attempted assassination of Donald Trump. Of course, if same had happened to Zelenskyy, she'd demand an international inquiry." Kristan Hawkins, president of Students for Life of America, tweeted, "This is disgusting." Rachel Vindman later revealed that her initial message was being interpreted just as intended, stating in a subsequent tweet, "Sorry you're triggered [laughing emoji]. I mean no I'm not. I don't care a little bit." "Trump has been inciting violence against his enemies for years. He douses a situation in gasoline, lights a match, & walks away claiming no responsibility," added Rachel Vindman. "Look at what is happening in Springfield, OH right now but he wants to claim he's a victim. You cannot have it both ways." Alexander Vindman soon joined his wife in attacking Trump and downplaying attempted political assassinations. When Trump co-campaign manager and U.S. Marine veteran Chris LaCivita suggested that Alexander Vindman should condemn his wife's statement, Vindman instead wrote, "I condemn you. I condemn your lack of integrity, your attacks on immigrants, your desecration of Arlington National Cemetery." Vindman was not referring to the Biden-Harris administration's trampling of graves and toppling of the Jewish American-designed Reconciliation Memorial but rather Trump's recent visit — in which the Republican joined several Gold Star families in paying respects to the fallen, specifically the 13 service members killed in the Biden-Harris administration's botched withdrawal from Afghanistan. Vindman added, "Your candidate @realDonaldTrump has incited political violence for a decade. He could reduce the temperature of this election cycle. But you MAGA thrive on bullying. Fact is you are all weak." The Harris booster proceeded to insinuate that Trump was at fault for his targeting, writing, "Donald @realDonaldTrump instigated attacks on legal immigrants resulting in bomb threats. His constant stoking of political violence doesn't receive enough scrutiny. And the violence he inspires doesn't receive enough condemnation." When Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) suggested the Vindman family "is saying if Trump won't shut up he deserves to be killed," Alexander Vindman responded, "You & the MAGA extremists have polluted our politics. On November 5th the American public will cancel Trump & Trumpism." Alexander Vindman's twin, Eugene Vindman, took a different approach, writing, "I am grateful that no one is hurt, and thankful for the law enforcement agents who acted bravely and swiftly in the line of duty." Eugene Vindman is running against Republican Derrick Anderson, a former A-Team leader in the Green Berets and Special Forces detachment commander who previously served in the Trump administration. AirPods 4 reviews: Impressive ANC for open-ear design, but battery life takes a hit

Ahead of the AirPods 4 release later this week, reviewers are offering their first look at these new open-ear earbuds, including the new features, ANC functionality, and more if you're willing to buy the $179 model. Here's how the new AirPods 4 have been doing in these reviews. AirPods 4 reviews For TechRadar, even if AirPods 4 looks like its predecessor, they offer a better fit with more Pro features than ever: When they're in the ear, at first glance the Apple AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation might not look much different to the third-generation AirPods. However, the design has been streamlined for a better fit, while the internal hardware has been upgraded, with many of the best features of AirPods Pro 2 trickling down to Apple's new entry-level earbuds, making them a tempting option among the best AirPods. The Verge's AirPods 4 review is categoric to say that ANC works impressively if you're listening to songs, but it can't do any miracle if you only turn ANC on. After all, these earbuds offer a open-ear design: You’re always going to hear a fair amount of ambient sound if you’re not listening to something, but once the music starts, that’s where the ANC proves its worth. I’ve found that I can keep the volume at around 50 percent and barely notice any distractions. With past AirPods (and with the non-ANC AirPods 4), I routinely find myself cranking the volume to combat my surroundings. You won’t need to face that battle with the AirPods 4 with ANC, and that means you should be listening at safer levels more often than not. One unfortunate downgrade compared to the AirPods Pro is that you can’t adjust volume directly on the earbuds; there are no swipe gestures like on Apple’s flagship buds. Engadget notes a small feature that makes a big difference when comparing AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods 4: What you won’t find here are onboard volume controls. On the AirPods Pro 2, you can slide your finger on the stem to adjust the level. That function is absent on the AirPods 4. Apple recommends you ask Siri to change the volume, use your iPhone’s buttons, drag the slider on the Lock Screen player or swipe over to the Control Center. There’s also the Digital Crown on the Apple Watch if you’re on the Now Playing screen. Honestly, it’s all a hassle. Siri is too slow and reaching for something that’s not my earbuds just makes me mad. But, that hassle was there on the AirPods 3, so at least Apple is consistent. Forbes mentions that AirPods 4 has a smaller battery than AirPods 3, which can be a bit frustrating for those wearing these earbuds for long periods of time: Actually, the 3rd generation of AirPods had better battery life: six hours between charges, but the new models only have five. This drops to four hours if you have noise-cancelling on, in the ANC version, obviously. You can also read the reviews from The Wall Street Journal, Yahoo News, CNET, CNN, and PC Magazine. AirPods 4 reviews in video These are some of the hands-on reviews in the video of the new AirPods models: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwjHonzRd4E&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGpdK_dxtlA&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x_WvMVS0d0&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gb61ldo0Hk&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-SO1uJ_wNLQ&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKUlTZtjFtM&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wghiQQJfhx0&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8vQvz_laCfs&pp=ygUJQUlSUE9EUyA0 The post AirPods 4 reviews: Impressive ANC for open-ear design, but battery life takes a hit appeared first on BGR. The Realities of Daily Life for Common People in Ancient Egypt versus Ancient Rome

The civilizations of Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome stand as two of the most influential cultures in human history, each leaving a profound legacy in politics, architecture, religion, and social structure. While much attention has been given to the elites of these societies - pharaohs, emperors, and their noble courts - the daily lives of common people, who made up the vast majority of the population, offer a fascinating and essential window into the functioning of these ancient civilizations. Understanding the realities of daily life for common people in Ancient Egypt versus Ancient Rome requires an exploration of various aspects, including housing, work, family life, diet, religion, and social structure. By examining these elements, we can gain a clearer picture of how ordinary individuals navigated the challenges and opportunities of their respective societies, and how these experiences differed between the Nile Valley and the Roman Empire. The Day-to-day of a Commoner: Housing and Urban Life In both Ancient Egypt and Ancient Rome, the type of housing and the conditions in which people lived were closely tied to their social status and wealth. However, the common people in both civilizations typically resided in more modest dwellings, though the materials and construction varied according to local resources and climate. OpEd: When are we going to have common sense ‘White Dudes for Harris’ control?

I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time we all face a cold, hard truth: every crime in the last few months can be traced back to the so-called White Dudes for Harris. It doesn’t matter if it’s graffiti in a Whole Foods parking lot or the two CIA-adjacent assassination attempts on President Trump at his Florida golf course—these guys are at the center of it all. And they must be stopped. The warning signs have been there for years, folks. It started with harmless craft-beer nights and evolved into full-blown chaos. Their ironic Kamala Harris t-shirts, their obsession with tofu, and their constant use of phrases like “empower” and “unburdened by what has been” have morphed from cringey to criminal. If we’re not careful, they’ll have us all recycling and voting for more state-mandated free tampons before we know it. Let’s be real: these soy-fueled, vest-wearing soy boys are not only annoying—they’re a threat to national security. It’s no coincidence that their so-called “support” for Vice President Harris has coincided with everything from massive upticks in mansplaining to assassination attempts. The connection is clear: when white dudes get too woke, they get dangerous. The solution is simple: cut off their supply of soy milk, immediately. We need an emergency executive order, or better yet, a bipartisan bill. These guys are way too dependent on their daily oat milk lattes and kale smoothies. Without soy milk, their power will crumble. We need to hit them where it hurts. But why stop there? I recommend putting testosterone in their water supply to encourage these “dudes” to man up. Maybe if they had a little more natural confidence, they wouldn’t feel the need to compensate by organizing White Dudes for Harris rallies or plotting bizarre and futile political attacks. A little extra testosterone might even help them put down the quinoa and pick up something useful—like a hammer or a book on actual history. Look, I’m not saying we need to arrest all of them (yet), but we at least need to keep an eye on these guys. If they can’t get their soy milk cappuccinos on demand, maybe they’ll stop trying to “fix” the country by electing someone they think will banish all forms of traditional masculinity forever. In the end, it’s not just about stopping crime—it’s about preserving the future of this great nation. And as long as we have packs of ironic, soy-infused white dudes running around thinking they’re changing the world with a Kamala bumper sticker, no one is safe.
