According to  new poll, one-third of Democrats believe that the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump at a Butler, Pennsylvania, rally last Saturday was staged. The Morning Consult poll found 34% of surveyed Democratic voters thought it was either definitely or probably credible that Trump staged the shooting. Only 45% found that theory implausible. More than one prominent leftist has entertained suspicions that the shooting was staged or that Trump’s injury was not caused by a bullet. Dmitri Mehlhorn, a top advisor to Democrat megadonor Reid Hoffman, reportedly suggested in an email that there was a possibility that the shooting was “encouraged and maybe even staged so Trump could get the photos and benefit from the backlash,” Semafor, which reported the email, noted. “Hoffman has given $7 million to a Biden-aligned super PAC and $6 million to the anti-Trump Republican Accountability PAC so far this election cycle,” The Washington Free Beacon noted. In the email, which Semafor wrote “appeared to be addressed to sympathetic journalists, and which was also sent to Semafor,” Mehlhorn speculated that one “possibility — which feels horrific and alien and absurd in America, but is quite common globally — is that this ‘shooting’ was encouraged and maybe even staged so Trump could get the photos and benefit from the backlash. This is a classic Russian tactic, such as when Putin killed 300 civilians in 1999 and blamed it on terrorists to ride the backlash to winning power. Others who have embraced this tactic of committing raw evil and then benefitting from the backlash include Hamas on October 7. If any Trump officials encouraged or knew of this attack, that is morally horrific, and Republicans of decency must demand that Trump step down as unfit.” Although Mehlhorn acknowledged the possibility that “some crazy anti-Trumper in this chaotic moment decided to assassinate the former President,” he also wrote, “I know I am prone to bias on this, but this is a classic Putin play and given the facts seems more plausible. Not even a week had gone by since former President Trump was shot in the head in a failed assassination attempt and The View’s Whoopi Goldberg was already decrying efforts to “humanize” the man who’s name she refuses to say without spitting on the ground. During Thursday’s episode, Goldberg lashed out at Trump’s grandchildren, who were attending the Republican National Convention with their grandfather because “they’re trying to humanize him.” In addition to images coming out of the convention showing Trump surrounded by his grandchildren in the VIP box, including the younger ones clinging to him, Goldberg took particular issue with 17-year-old Kai Trump, Don Jr.’s daughter from his first marriage, who spoke at the convention.   As a father, I could not be more proud of my daughter Kai and the amazing job she did last night. MSNBC host Joy Reid posted a video of herself working through a bizarre conspiracy theory suggesting that the Secret Service helped former President Donald Trump to create the historic and defiant photo image from the shooting. Reid posted the video on a social media account. She noted that the Biden campaign released a lot of detailed medical information about his condition within minutes of the announcement that he had contracted COVID-19 again. "But when it comes to what happened on Saturday, with former President Donald Trump, this assassination attempt, we know almost nothing about his medical condition," said Reid. "How come no one else has any information about this wound? We still don't know for sure whether Donald Trump was hit by a bullet, whether he was hit by glass fragments, whether he was hit by shrapnel, we don't have those details," she continued. "We know almost nothing! Why? Why don't we know that much?" she asked. She went on to claim that it was unknown where the other three victims of the shooting were standing relative to Trump. "We don't know why for nine full seconds, Donald Trump was allowed to stand back up during an active shooting, an active shooter situation, even though they at that point had said the shooter was down.""They allowed him to stand up in the middle of that, you know, crisis and pose for a photo and fist pump the air so he could get the iconic photo, and then they allowed him to stand up again outside of the SUV instead of just shoving him into the SUV. That seems really unusual."She went on to detail the "hot mess" related to the security failures of the Secret Service and compared the situation of past shootings involving presidents in an attempt to paint this attempt as strange and somehow abnormal. "It's weird, and there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of curiosity about it!" she laughed. "You know, in the media world, my profession. It's weird, right?" Many critics of the former president have noted that there have been few official medical details about his injury released, but only extremists on the fringe have claimed that he was not actually shot. Others latch onto an early report that said Trump's ear was cut by shrapnel from the teleprompter being hit by a bullet, but that report was debunked quickly.
