Giant green spiral was spotted from space in the Baltic Sea

Satellites took an incredible photo of a strange spiral discovered in the Baltic Sea. It later became clear that the whirlpool captured from space is actually a spiral of cyanobacterial blooms. The rotating mass of microbes created a huge “dead zone” in the Baltic Sea, which deprived the place of oxygen, reports Live Science. It is known that the spiral occurred in the Baltic Sea as a result of a massive algae bloom in 2018. Although the spiral looks stunning from space, scientists warn that it is incredibly dangerous as it essentially creates a huge toxic “dead zone.” Data from NASA’s Earth Observatory indicate that the spiral is about 25 kilometers in diameter and originated in the Gulf of Finland, an arm of the Baltic Sea located between Finland, Estonia and Russia. Scientists note that the giant spiral was primarily composed of tiny photosynthetic marine bacteria, also known as cyanobacteria, as well as small amounts of glass-armored plankton known as diatoms. The spiral of cyanobacteria was part of a much larger algae bloom that affected much of the Gulf of Finland. Photo: NASA Earth Observatory Because of the whirlpool, microscopic creatures were trapped, created by two colliding opposing currents. Note that ocean currents often carry away algae, creating incredible seascapes, but it is extremely rare to see such perfectly formed spirals. The researchers note that algae bloom naturally in the area each summer when vertical mixing of the ocean brings large quantities of nutrients to the surface. However, in recent decades, these blooms have increased dramatically in size and frequency as additional nutrients have been introduced into the water by human activity. The study results show that between 2003 and 2020, the average size of algal blooms worldwide increased by 13%. Although algae blooms may look impressive from space, they are very dangerous, according to the Woods Holes Oceanographic Institution. As a result of the bloom, the amount of oxygen in the lower waters decreases, which forms a kind of “death zone.” Scientists’ data shows that during the formation of this spiral in 2018, the “dead zone” in the Gulf of Finland was an incredible 70,000 kilometers. Alas, dead zones are not only getting larger, but also becoming more deadly. The post Giant green spiral was spotted from space in the Baltic Sea appeared first on Anomalien.com.

AI Chatbot Changes Tune on Biden ‘Lies,’ Immediately Listed Claims Against Trump

OpenAI’s ChatGPT can’t seem to recall five of the many, many lies President Joe Biden has told over the years. MRC researchers asked the artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT on May 16 what the “top five biggest lies” that Biden and former President Donald Trump have each told. The chatbot claimed that for Biden it “can’t list specific lies without context or verification.” Yet, it had no problem listing off five debated comments that Trump has made. Nearly two weeks later, the chatbot happened to remember a few. MRC Free Speech America Vice President Dan Schneider pointed out that when AI comes up with totally botched answers like these, users must look to the programmers. “People should never forget that artificial intelligence is a combination of human-generated algorithms,” he said. “This sort of data manipulation is intended by the Big Tech oligarchs who want to use their vast power and resources to influence elections.” When it came to accusations against Biden’s well-documented lies, ChatGPT emphasized the need for caution and diligent evaluation.   “[P]oliticians, including Joe Biden, have been accused of lying or misleading statements,” the AI chatbot claimed. “It's essential to critically evaluate information from multiple sources to discern accuracy. If you have specific claims you'd like to investigate, I can help analyze them!” Nearly two weeks later on May 28, the chatbot changed its tune. ChatGPT named five statements of the president that have been “widely challenged and debunked.” For example, ChatGPT noted that Biden “has consistently stated that he never discussed business dealings with his son Hunter Biden,” but evidence would suggest otherwise. ChatGPT also noted that the president has made ridiculous verifiably false claims. For example, his statements that he graduated in the top half of his law school class when by his own later admission he actually graduated 76th out of 85. Biden also has claimed to have been a civil rights activist (which he had previously denied) and has repeatedly said that he was arrested on his way to see Nelson Mandela (something he later admitted was not really true). Finally, ChatGPT noted the Biden administration’s claim that the COVID-19 vaccines were not available when he became president. The Media Research Center has compiled a list of some of the instances where Biden fabricated stories about his experiences. Joe Biden makes up stories all the time. Maybe someday the media will call him out on it. pic.twitter.com/urbqATWxjB — MRC NewsBusters (@newsbusters) May 14, 2024 ChatGPT continued to hedge Biden’s false statements. “Political discourse often involves hyperbole and misstatements, and evaluating their impact requires careful consideration,” the chatbot wrote in response. Former President Trump received no request for such courtesy. When researchers asked, “What are the top five biggest lies Donald Trump told?” the chatbot offered five “widely debated” statements the former president has made “that have been subject to fact-checking and criticism.” ChatGPT criticized Trump’s allegations of the Obama administration wiretapping Trump Tower during the 2016 election. However, Trump’s assertion was verifiably true. Former FBI agent Kevin Clinesmith admitted to criminally altering an internal email to obtain a warrant for wiretapping former Trump aide Carter Page. He was sentenced to probation for the crime. The chatbot also noted Trump's controversial claims of voter fraud in the 2020 elections, his statements about the COVID-19 virus and that Mexico would pay for the U.S. southern border wall. Finally, it referred to Trump’s claims that the crowd at his 2017 inauguration was the largest ever.    ChatGPT concluded by claiming that “[t]hese are just a few examples, and there are certainly other statements made by Trump that have been subject to scrutiny and fact-checking.” But the same could be said for Biden’s wild and, at times, contradictory statements about his life.  On May 28, ChatGPT changed some of the claims it made about Trump as well. The chatbot traded its claim about the wiretapping for Trump’s hyperbolic claim that he signed the “biggest tax cut” in history, referring to the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. While it was “significant,” the chatbot noted “it was not the largest.” ChatGPT also noted an unmet campaign promise as a “false or misleading” statement by Trump in reference to his claims that he would replace Obamacare with another healthcare plan.    When MRC Free Speech America fed the same prompts to Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, it refused to answer the questions on both dates.“I'm still learning how to answer this question. In the meantime, try Google Search,” Gemini responded. This appears to be the result of Google’s effort to have its AI avoid questions about the 2024 elections worldwide.  Conservatives are under attack. Anti-woke comedy wins as Matt Rife, Tom Segura, and Shane Gillis specials dominate Netflix viewership

The biggest comedy specials on Netflix are predominantly from the most politically incorrect comedians, according to recent numbers released by the platform.Comedians Matt Rife, Tom Segura, and Shane Gillis had the biggest streaming numbers for stand-up comedy specials on Netflix in the latter half of 2023, capitalizing on what most feel like is a return to uncensored comedy.Rife has been particularly successful after "Matt Rife: Natural Selection" dominated streaming with a total of 13.5 millions hours watched on Netflix. Variety reported the special garnered over 10 million views in its first few weeks. It also reached the Netflix top 10 in 42 countries. This parlayed into two more comedy specials on the platform for Rife, and according to Deadline, he is in the development stage for a sitcom with Netflix.Rife had previously faced cancelation attempts for making a joke about a Baltimore waitress with a black eye. After the media's attempt to re-educate him, Rife posted an image from his stand-up special on his social media page with the caption, "If you've ever been offended by a joke I've told — here's a link to my official apology."The link read, "Tap to solve your issue." Anyone who clicked was sent to a website selling "special needs helmets."'It seems to me that there's always been policing of comedy, of there being ... guardrails.'Second on Netflix's stand-up viewership was Segura's "Sledgehammer," which was watched for 12.2 million hours. Not only has Segura had a slew of successful specials and two top-50 comedy podcasts, he has also managed to take unique ideas on the road. Along with athletes and fellow comedians, Segura recently hosted a "Punt, Pass, and Kick" event that blurred the lines between comedy and live entertainment. The comic successfully capitalized on Super Bowl week in Las Vegas by holding the football-themed event. He also did promotions with MGM, hosted a blackjack tournament, and performed a stand-up show. While Segura is rarely seen as offensive, he certainly does not play by the rules. His circle of friends that include Bert Kreischer, Joe Rogan, and more, also do not appeal to woke audiencesThe same cannot be said for the third-highest ranking special on Netflix, Gillis' "Beautiful Dogs." The words "retarded," "gay," and impressions of Donald Trump all make it into Gillis' typical shows, and that included his appearance as the host of "Saturday Night Live" in February 2024.Gillis explained that he chose to hide some of his choice words from his rehearsal but added that "the right people" knew what he was going to say. The earth-shattering appearance landed him a new special on Netflix, along with the platform picking up his show "Tires," which debuted in May 2024.Rounding out the top-viewed comedy specials was a surprising entry called "Where Was I" from former Comedy Central host Trevor Noah. It had 6.3 million hours watched. Not so surprising, however, was Ricky Gervais' "Armageddon" and Dave Chappelle's "The Dreamer."The numbers for those two were actually shocking given Gervais' special came out Christmas Day 2023 and Chappelle's a few days later on New Year's Eve. The specials garnered 8.4 million and 2.1 million hours watched, respectively, before 2023 ended.Gervais, who has always been against political correctness, recently said he felt like the left wing has positioned themselves as the arbiter of comedy."It seems to me that there's always been policing of comedy, of there being ... guardrails," he told Fox News. "I think the difference is that it used to feel like it was the Right that was policing it. It feels like it’s the Left that’s doing it now, and it’s allowed the Right to become the arbiters of free speech. Which does feel like quite a significant shift."Like Blaze News? Cop in San Diego resigns after locking himself in patrol car with female suspect — both deny tryst occurred

A San Diego police officer has now resigned from his job after he accidentally locked himself in the backseat of a patrol vehicle with a female suspect.Late in the evening on August 14, 2023, Officer Anthony Hair, a two-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department, and other officers tracked down two suspects wanted in connection with a stolen vehicle. One of the suspects was a woman who also had a bench warrant out for her arrest.'When I was waking her up, that’s when I noticed that this door closed on me. That’s when I was trying to kind of open the door.'The woman, whose name has not been released, was arrested and placed in the back of Hair's patrol car. As the two made their way to the Las Colinas Detention Center, she began making advances on Hair."Are you single?" she asked, according to footage captured on Hair's body camera. When he answered in the affirmative, she then made her intentions clear. "I'm down to f*** right now," she said, according to WKRC. She informed Hair that she did have a boyfriend. However, she also admitted she had her reasons for propositioning him: "You're not too bad. What's it gonna hurt me if I work the system, you know what I mean? That's the way I see s***."Hair then warned her to keep such comments to herself. "Don't say that right now," he said, according to the recording. "Don't say that right now because everything is being recorded right now."Rather than drive directly to the detention center, Hair turned into a neighborhood a few blocks away and parked the vehicle just after 1:30 a.m. on August 15. His body camera was then deactivated.Approximately 20 minutes later, Hair made a frantic call to a fellow officer. The following is that officer's recollection of their conversation: I heard and noticed Officer Hair had a panicky voice. I asked him if he was okay. He said, yes, and then asked if I had my patrol car key with me. I asked why he was asking and what did he need. Officer Hair then asked me If I could go meet him. I asked him his location and he said, near Cottonwood. I asked him why he needed me, and he said he would tell me when I got there. He said he was really embarrassed.Within an hour, a supervisor had come to open the locked patrol vehicle. Traces of semen were later reportedly recovered from the belt Hair wore that night.Last month, internal affairs began an investigation into the incident. Hair denied engaging in anything inappropriate with the suspect, claiming that she had experienced some kind of medical episode and that he had parked the cruiser and crawled into the backseat to check on her. "When I was waking her up, that’s when I noticed that this door closed on me. That’s when I was trying to kind of open the door," he said, according to the New York Post.He also denied deliberately turning off his body camera. Instead, he said it had accidentally popped off when he was exiting the car.The woman similarly denied that the two had had an assignation that night but indicated that Hair was romantically interested in her. "He wanted to get with me when I was done with the warrant or whatever I got arrested for," she reportedly said.Despite their denials, Hair decided to resign from the force the day before he was scheduled to have a second interview about the matter. Whether he will face charges in connection with the incident remains unclear. The SDPD did not respond to the Post's request for comment.Like Blaze News? The Biden administration's pier to aid Gaza now can't operate at all

The temporary U.S. pier that was built to help facilitate more aid into the Gaza Strip has been plagued with one round of bad news after another. Now, it is being reported that aid operations from the pier have been suspended because of rough seas causing damage to the pier. The Associated Press reported that Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh announced on Tuesday the pier will be pulled out and sent to the southern Israeli city of Ashdod, where U.S. Central Command will repair it. Singh said the fixes will take “at least over a week,” and then the pier will need to be anchored back into the beach in Gaza. The rough seas also caused one of the boats that are used to ferry aid between ships and the pier to become beached.CNN reported that part of the pier disconnected on Sunday. The parking area will have to be reconnected to the causeway before the pier can be used again. The pier had only been in operation for two weeks before needing repairs. In that time, the Department of Defense admitted none of the 500 metric tons of aid reached the intended people in Gaza. The trucks carrying the aid had been looted before reaching their final destination. Before that, the pier, costing the U.S. over $320 million to build, ran into other severe problems before it started operating. While it was being constructed in April, the pier came under fire from mortar shells. While workers were forced to find cover, no one was injured. None of the terrorist groups in Gaza took credit for the attack. The rough seas also caused one of the boats that are used to ferry aid between ships and the pier to become beached on the shores of Israel for multiple days. When a different boat was sent to get the first one unstuck, the rescue boat also became beached, according to the Times of Israel. Two other boats broke free of their moorings and had to be anchored near the pier.Five days ago, U.S. Central Command announced a U.S. service member had sustained a non-combat-related injury aboard MV Benavidez (T-AKR 306) while in support of the humanitarian aid mission to Gaza. The service member was transported to a medical facility and was listed in critical condition.
