‘We Cannot Stand For That’: Ashley Moody Lays Out Her Agenda In U.S. Senate

Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody (R) expressed excitement on Thursday after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) named her as the replacement for Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) in the U.S. Senate after President-elect Donald Trump nominated Rubio for Secretary of State. Speaking in Orlando immediately after DeSantis announced that she was his appointment for the seat, Moody said that she only had a few hours to figure out what she was going to say. She gave DeSantis full credit for everything that Florida has become under his leadership as the state. “I will bring the same persistence and passion and tenacity as a United States senator that I have brought as Florida’s Attorney General,” she said. “If you have worked with me and fought with me over the last six years, you know I don’t think of this as a job, I think of it as a calling. Every day I go to work, every decision that I make, every person I hire, I do so with the understanding that the people of Florida gave me this opportunity, and I want to deliver on what I assured them, and that was we were going to protect their rights.” She said that she believes that her highly energetic nature could help change the culture in Washington, D.C. “I probably won’t like it, but I’m ready to show up and fight for this nation and fight for President Trump to deliver the American first agenda on day one,” she said. “What has angered me the most as attorney general, as I have had to fight the Biden administration over the last four years, when we have seen policy after policy after rule, after financial decisions, spending out of these agencies, as the agencies have gotten bigger, as they have taken more power, as they have tried to tell the states what to do more and more and more — all that does is take the will of the people, the want of the people, through their elected representatives in Congress, and turns this into a country we don’t even recognize anymore.” CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT “And whether it’s agencies making these decisions when lawmakers should, unelected bureaucrats, or whether it’s international organizations making decisions that our lawmakers should, we cannot stand for that,” she added. “The only way to return this country to the people, the people who govern it, is to make sure we have a strong Congress doing its job passing laws and actually approving the regulations that these unelected bureaucrats are trying to cram down on the American people.” WATCH:

These Are The 33 Hostages Set To Be Released In First Phase Of Israeli-Hamas Hostage Deal

The names of the 33 hostages expected to be released as part of the ceasefire and hostage deal between Israel and Hamas have been published. The deal is awaiting approval by the Israeli government’s full cabinet. The hostages who may soon regain their freedom are mostly women and elderly people. The release is expected to take place over a six-week period, with the first three hostages possibly being freed on Sunday if the deal is approved. Only 22 of the hostages are believed to be alive. The list includes two children, Ariel Bibas, 5, and Yarden Bibas, 2, who have captured the world’s attention after a video showed their mother holding them as they were taken hostage. Two of seven American hostages are set to be freed: Keith Siegel, 65, and Sagui Dekel-Chen, 36. Earlier this year, The Daily Wire interviewed Dekel-Chen’s father, who described his son as a hardworking man. Dekel-Chen was taken hostage on October 7, after hiding his pregnant wife and children in a safe room before going to help defend his kibbutz. Siegel, originally from Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is an occupational therapist. His wife was freed in the November 2023 hostage deal. In exchange for the hostages, about 1,000 Palestinian terrorists will be released from Israeli prisons during the first phase. The Israel Defense Forces will also withdraw from parts of the Gaza Strip under the agreement. The 65 hostages who will remain after the first phase of the deal will be negotiated for in later stages. The hostages who will be released are: Liri Albag Itzhik Elgarat Karina Ariev Ohad Ben-Ami Ariel Bibas Yarden Bibas Kfir Bibas Shiri Silberman Bibas Agam Berger Romi Gonen Danielle Gilboa Emily Damari Sagui Dekel-Chen Yair Horn Omer Wenkert Alexander Troufanov Arbel Yehud Ohad Yahalomi Eliya Cohen Or Levy Naama Levy Oded Lifshitz Gadi Moshe Moses Avera Mengistu Shlomo Mansur Keith Siegel Tsahi Idan Ofer Calderon Tal Shoham Doron Steinbrecher Omer Shem-Tov Hisham Al Sayed Eli Sharabi

Biden Commutes Sentences Of Another 2,500 Drug Offenders

President Joe Biden announced Friday that he was commuting the sentences of 2,500 drug offenders in what will be one of his final actions in office.  Biden said that those whose sentences were commuted were “non-violent” offenders who had been given “disproportionately long sentences.” The announcement means that Biden has now handed out the most pardons or commutations of any president.  “Today, I am commuting the sentences of nearly 2,500 people convicted of non-violent drug offenses who are serving disproportionately long sentences compared to the sentences they would receive today under current law, policy, and practice,” Biden said. “With this action, I have now issued more individual pardons and commutations than any president in U.S. history.” He said the action was for individuals who “received lengthy sentences based on discredited distinctions between crack and powder cocaine” and “outdated sentencing enhancements for drug crimes.” In his statement, Biden pointed to multiple sentencing laws passed by Congress, including the First Step Act, which then-President Donald Trump signed during his first term in office.  “This action is an important step toward righting historic wrongs, correcting sentencing disparities, and providing deserving individuals the opportunity to return to their families and communities after spending far too much time behind bars,” Biden said. “I am proud of my record on clemency and will continue to review additional commutations and pardons.” CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT Biden previously commuted the sentences of 1,500 people, issued 39 pardons for individuals convicted of non-violent crimes, and gave a mass pardon for people convicted of marijuana possession.  Biden has faced criticism over his clemency actions, including when he commuted the death sentences of 37 of 40 prisoners on federal death row, each of whom had been convicted of murder, just two days before Christmas.  One of those whose death sentence was commuted was Thomas Sanders, who was convicted in 2014 of kidnapping and murdering 12-year-old Lexis Roberts. Sanders kidnapped Roberts after he shot her mother in the head. He held Roberts captive for several days before he shot her four times, cut her throat, and hid her body in the woods.  Biden was also sharply criticized for his sweeping pardon of his son Hunter, which came after he had previously promised not to do so.

EXCLUSIVE: Watchdog Warns Land O’Lakes To Steer Clear Of ‘Unrealistic’ Climate Targets

Watchdog group Consumers’ Research warned butter giant Land O’Lakes on Friday that its climate-focused initiatives could expose it to lawsuits that may raise costs for customers, according to a letter first shared with The Daily Wire.  In a letter to Land O’Lakes CEO Beth Ford, Consumers’ Research Executive Director Will Hild said that the agricultural company should stop pushing net-zero initiatives and focus on satisfying customers. Hild said the climate targets could create legal risks, pointing to a lawsuit filed against meat processor JBS by New York Attorney General Letitia James over its climate promises.  “Consumers’ Research is concerned that it is only a matter of time before national grocers, food producers, and food retailers, including Land O’ Lakes, Inc., are subjected to state actions targeting their unrealistic net-zero commitments, as has happened with JBS,” Hild wrote. Hild’s letter pointed to multiple Land O’Lakes climate goals, which closely mirror net-zero targets set by JBS. These goals, featured in its 2021 ESG report and 2023 Community Impact report, include reducing direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions by 42% by 2030, and net-zero in 2050. “As this comparison makes plain, Land O’ Lakes’ statements on emissions reduction goals expose the company to the same type of litigation JBS currently faces,” Hild wrote. James has alleged that JBS’s net-zero target is “greenwashing” that “exploits the pocketbooks of everyday Americans and the promise of a healthy planet for future generations” by misleading customers.  “The JBS lawsuit by General James has made plain that there is risk lurking in the ESG and sustainability commitments of countless grocers and food retailers. There is no better time than now for Land O’ Lakes to course correct, remove this ESG risk, and pivot back to a pro-consumer approach to its business,” Hild wrote. The letter went out the same time as Consumers’ Research sent out a “woke alert” detailing how Land O’Lakes has embraced a variety of other DEI and ESG policies.  For example, the company detailed in its 2021 ESG report that it had mandated “unconscious bias training for all people leaders,” noted that the company has an annual DEI-themed summit, and boasted that it scored 100% when ranked by the leftist Human Rights Campaign.  Its 2023 community impact report also included a bar measuring how many non-white males it had working for the company.  Screen shot: Community impact report Land O’Lakes. The report said that the company wants to “expand supplier equity” and has instituted a “Supplier Diversity Program.” This program is for the company to focus on working with businesses owned by women, minorities, people who identify as gay or transgender, and disabled people. CELEBRATE #47 WITH 47% OFF DAILYWIRE+ MEMBERSHIPS + A FREE $20 GIFT In addition to its net-zero goals, Land O’Lakes also pushes several climate focused initiatives. For example, the community impact report said that the company was “committed to helping our member-owners reduce the environmental impact of farming, especially the impacts of on-farm greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions” through its Dairy 2025 initiative. As part of this project, the company hires consultants to measure the farmers’ “milk emission factor.” In 2020, the Minnesota-based Land O’Lakes dropped the American Indian woman who had adorned its packaging for nearly 100 years after some people complained the logo was racist.

Israeli Security Cabinet Votes To Approve Ceasefire And Hostage Deal

Israel’s security cabinet voted to approve the ceasefire and hostage deal between the Jewish state and Hamas on Friday. The deal is still awaiting a vote in the full cabinet in order to be approved. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, both of whom have voiced their reservations about the deal’s potential risks to Israel’s security, voted no. Ben-Gvir threatened to quit the government if the deal was approved. Netanyahu’s Likud Party responded by stating that “Anyone who dissolves the right-wing government will be remembered as an eternal disgrace.” In the deal’s first phase, about 33 hostages will be exchanged for 1,000 Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons. The Israel Defense Forces will also withdraw from parts of the Gaza Strip. The fate of the 65 hostages who remain in Gaza is set to be discussed in the later stages of the deal. The names of the 33 hostages have been released, and the list includes two Americans: Keith Siegel, 65, and Sagui Dekel-Chen, 36. The first three hostages could be released as early as Sunday, pending the deal’s approval. Only 22 of those hostages are believed to be alive. French President Emmanuel Macron said on X that two French citizens, Ofer Kalderon and Ohad Yahalomi, are expected to be among the first released.  The full cabinet is expected to meet later on Friday. Israeli President Isaac Herzog welcomed the vote’s results, stating that he expects “the government to follow suit in swiftly affirming this decision.” “This is a vital step toward fulfilling the highest covenant between the state and its citizens,” he said. “There is no greater moral, human, Jewish, and Israeli duty. We must bring all of our hostages back home.”
