On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump urged Republicans in Congress to allow a government shutdown to happen this fall if they cannot get a short-term spending measure in addition to election integrity reforms enacted into law. The demand by Trump, who is running for the White House again this year, comes as the GOP-led House is considering a continuing resolution that would provide funding for the federal government for six months — through March 28 — in addition to instituting the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. “If Republicans in the House, and Senate, don’t get absolute assurances on Election Security,” Trump said on Truth Social, “THEY SHOULD, IN NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, GO FORWARD WITH A CONTINUING RESOLUTION ON THE BUDGET. THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO ‘STUFF’ VOTER REGISTRATIONS WITH ILLEGAL ALIENS. DON’T LET IT HAPPEN – CLOSE IT DOWN!!!” The SAVE Act, which passed the House as a standalone bill in July with some bipartisan support but never got taken up by the Democrat-controlled Senate, aims to require that individuals show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office and pushes states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls. Critics argue the SAVE Act is unnecessary and would create an undue burden on legitimate voters, but House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) released a white paper earlier this year in favor of the measure, warning of a National Voter Registration Act “loophole” in which states do not ask for proof of citizenship when registering an individual to vote in federal elections and cited evidence of noncitizens appearing on voter rolls in places such as Massachusetts, Ohio, and Virginia. While the six-month continuing resolution plus the SAVE Act is expected to get a final vote in the House as soon as Wednesday, it appears unlikely the proposal will prevail. Leading Democrats and even some Republicans in Congress have voiced opposition to the idea. Even if the plan somehow makes it past the House and the Democrat-controlled Senate, the White House said on Monday that President Joe Biden would veto the measure. Congress is running out of time to reach a deal on a short-term spending measure if lawmakers returning to Washington, D.C., from their summer recess are unable to pass appropriations legislation to fund the various federal agencies for the coming fiscal year. A government shutdown could happen by the beginning of October — just weeks before a presidential election — without an agreement. “I believe we can fund the government responsibly and I believe that we can do right by the American people and ensure the security of our elections,” Johnson told reporters on Tuesday. “And I defy anybody to give me any logical argument why we shouldn’t do that. That’s why I’m so resolute about this.”

Major pharmacies were urged on Monday by 17 Republican state financial officers to disregard calls from New York officials to start offering the widely-used abortion drug mifepristone for sale. In letters to the CEOs of Costco, Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, and McKesson, the Republican officials said that selling mifepristone would be a bad business decision that would alienate customers. They argued that the pharmacies would be wading into political activism if they started offering mifepristone, which is used in more than half of all abortions.  “This radical position ignores all of the business decisions that go into whether to sell a particular product — decisions that should be made by Albertsons’ leadership based on how it will serve their customers. Your competitor, Costco, also recently admitted that there was no material demand for the drug,” they wrote in a letter to Albertsons CEO Vivek Sankaran. The letters come after NYC Comptroller Brad Lander urged the retailers in July to move to offer mifepristone for sale or risk losing consumer confidence. Lander noted that NYC pension funds have about $1.3 billion in ownership in the retailers. “Companies do best when they provide excellent goods and services to their customers, not when they adopt divisive stances on contentious political issues. We are calling on Albertsons to fulfill that purpose and to ignore activist efforts like the New York City Comptrollers,’” the financial officers wrote.  The letter was signed by the financial officers of Alaska, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming.  “As public officials who oversee various aspects of the financial interests of our own states, state employees, and citizens whom we represent, we find these actions to be inappropriate,” they wrote. “Pushing political issues onto companies harms business, weakens investor fiduciary standards, and is detrimental to the ultimate beneficiaries who depend on strong economic results for their retirement.” Tickets for “Am I Racist?” are on sale NOW! Mifepristone has been increasingly used for abortions since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, especially in conservative states with strong pro-life protections where abortion has largely been banned.  A Daily Wire investigation earlier this year found that a network of Left-wing activist groups are flooding red states with abortion pills. New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu was captured on video this week rushing in and administering the Heimlich maneuver to a man who began choking at a food eating contest. Contestant Christian Moreno was one of several people competing at the Hampton Beach Seafood Festival contest on Sunday when he began choking on a lobster roll. The Associated Press reported that participants had 10 minutes to eat as many lobster rolls — a hot dog bun stuffed with lobster, celery, and mayonnaise — as possible, and that Moreno was personally shooting to eat “at least 20,” according to comments he made before the contest began. Moreno began chowing down on the lobster rolls when, after only consuming a couple of them, he began pounding on his chest and signaled that he needed help. Sununu jumped in, positioned himself behind Moreno, placed his fist around Moreno’s gut, and began administering the Heimlich maneuver. Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost announced this week that he has directed officials to begin reviewing ways to stop the Biden-Harris administration from sending large numbers of migrants to communities in the state amid backlash that is brewing over tens of thousands of Haitian illegal aliens who have been brought to a small town in the state. The move comes in response to Springfield, a town of less than 60,000 residents, being flooded with approximately 20,000 Haitian illegal aliens over the last few years, leading to a variety of problems and rapid deterioration of the town. “This is absurd – Springfield has swollen by more than a third due to migrants,” Yost said. “How many people can they be expected to take? What are the limits to the federal government’s power? Could the federal government simply funnel into Ohio all the millions of migrants flooding in under the current administration’s watch?” “There’s got to be a limiting principle,” he added. “We’re going to find a way to get this disaster in front of a federal judge.” The explosion in illegal aliens coming to the town has devastated the abilities of the public and private entities in the town to provide for the U.S. citizens who live there, Yost’s office said. They’re running into buildings,” one resident said. “They’re flipping cars in the middle of the street, and I don’t know how, like, y’all can be comfortable with this.” Other residents said the illegal aliens are setting up camp grounds, screaming at residents, and throwing trash on their property. “It is so unsafe,” one resident said. “Look at me, I weigh 95 pounds. I couldn’t defend myself if I had to ‘pack up and move.'” “It’s killing both of us mentally,” she continued. “I don’t understand what you expect of us as citizens. … Who’s protecting me? I want out of this town. I am sorry. Please give me a reason to stay.”
