Gavin Newsom Is Embracing A New Social Media Strategy As 2028 Rumors Swirl: Trump Parodies

As California Governor Gavin Newsom gets floated as a top contender for the Democratic Party in 2028, he’s going all in on anti-Trump rhetoric, but with a new twist. In recent weeks, the social media account for the governor’s office has been posting rants on X that copy the tone and style of President Donald Trump’s off-the-cuff statements on Truth Social. While imitation is said to be the sincerest form of flattery, Newsom is copying Trump in an attempt to give the president “a wake-up call.” Earlier this month, the Governor Newsom Press Office X account raised eyebrows when it began posting warnings to Trump in all-caps and closed out with Trump’s signature line: “THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER.” Newsom’s Trump impersonation began over the Republican effort to redraw Congressional maps in Texas, which would likely strip five seats from Democrats. “DONALD TRUMP, IF YOU DO NOT STAND DOWN, WE WILL BE FORCED TO LEAD AN EFFORT TO REDRAW THE MAPS IN CA TO OFFSET THE RIGGING OF MAPS IN RED STATES. BUT IF THE OTHER STATES CALL OFF THEIR REDISTRICTING EFFORTS, WE WILL DO THE SAME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER!” Newsom’s press office wrote last Monday. In the following days, the governor’s X posts only became more Trump-like. DONALD “TACO” TRUMP, AS MANY CALL HIM, “MISSED” THE DEADLINE!!! CALIFORNIA WILL NOW DRAW NEW, MORE “BEAUTIFUL MAPS,” THEY WILL BE HISTORIC AS THEY WILL END THE TRUMP PRESIDENCY (DEMS TAKE BACK THE HOUSE!). BIG PRESS CONFERENCE THIS WEEK WITH POWERFUL DEMS AND GAVIN NEWSOM — YOUR… — Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) August 12, 2025   WHEN SPEAKER “LITTLE MAN” JOHNSON IS STANDING IN “THE UNEMPLOYMENT LINE,” HE CAN THANK DONALD “TACO” J. TRUMP. TRUMP MISSED A SIMPLE DEADLINE — SOMETHING HE HAS OFTEN DONE WITH HIS MANY FAILED BUSINESSES — NOW CALIFORNIA WILL “FIRE” HIM WITH NEW, “MORE BEAUTIFUL MAPS.” HIGHLY… — Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) August 13, 2025   DONALD IS FINISHED — HE IS NO LONGER “HOT.” FIRST THE HANDS (SO TINY) AND NOW ME — GAVIN C. NEWSOM — HAVE TAKEN AWAY HIS “STEP.” MANY ARE SAYING HE CAN’T EVEN DO THE “BIG STAIRS” ON AIR FORCE ONE ANYMORE — USES THE LITTLE BABY STAIRS NOW. SAD! TOMORROW HE’S GOT HIS “MEETING” WITH… — Governor Newsom Press Office (@GovPressOffice) August 15, 2025 Newsom was asked last week whether the social media posts were part of a specific strategy from his team. “I don’t know. I hope it’s a wake-up call to the president of the United States for following his example,” Newsom replied. “If you’ve got issues with what I’m putting out, you sure as hell should have concerns about what he’s putting out as president. So, to the extent it’s gotten some attention, I’m pleased, but I think the deeper question is how have we allowed the normalization of his tweets — Truth Social posts — over the course of the last many years to go without similar scrutiny and notice.” Gov. Gavin Newsom is asked what’s behind recent tweets on the @GovPressOffice account where he appears to be mocking President Trump. “I’m just following his example….the deeper question is, how have we allowed the normalization of his tweets and Truth Social posts over the… pic.twitter.com/aQe4Rw167G — Daniela Pardo (@danielapardotv) August 14, 2025 Despite what Newsom says, Trump’s social media presence has been in the spotlight since he jumped into politics in 2015, and it has been the subject of endless legacy media scrutiny. The Left’s backlash to Trump’s social media snipes only added to the momentum that pushed Trump across the finish line in 2016 and again in 2024. The White House blasted Newsom over the social media tactic, calling it inauthentic. “Nothing about Newscum is authentic — from his rehearsed answers to his flip-flopping policy positions – he goes whatever way the wind blows… so it makes sense that he would try to mimic the President’s wildly successful communication strategy. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but Gavin’s behavior is just getting weird at this point,” White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told The Daily Wire. For Newsom’s X presence, the Trump parodies appear to be working — at least in terms of raw engagement. Before the press office X account began posting like the president, it would usually see between 200 and a few thousand likes, and some posts would hit 2,000 reposts if they were lucky. But when the governor’s office posts parodies of Trump, that’s a different story. Some of Newsom’s Trumpian posts reached over 100,000 likes and racked up around 15,000 reposts. An official in the governor’s office told The Daily Wire that the press office X account has seen an increase of over 250,000 followers, while its engagement rate has gone up by more than 50% since August 1. Much of that engagement is negative, with many X users blasting Newsom’s social media tactic. Conservative commentators have also ripped the Democratic governor for copying Trump. Fox News host Dana Perino, White House Press Secretary under former President George W. Bush, said on Monday that Newsom was “making a fool” of himself. “You have to stop it with the Twitter thing. I don’t know where his wife is,” she added. “If I were his wife, I would say you are making a fool of yourself, stop it. Do not let your staff tweet, and if you’re doing it yourself, put the phone away and start over.” Radio host Mark Simone added, “Gavin Newsom is now paying massive tribute to Donald Trump by imitating him, copying him, trying to be him – look at his latest tweets. He is becoming Trump and the crazy left loves it (also a great tribute to President Trump).” Newsom’s idea to channel Trump is connecting with those on the Left. Jon Favreau, a “Pod Save America” co-host and former speechwriter for President Barack Obama, replied to Perino, saying, “Humor and mockery can be quite effective!” “I mean, it’s pretty clearly a parody of Trump’s absolutely insane all caps, often non-sensical posts,” Favreau added. “Probably why all the people in my life who aren’t political junkies keep reaching out to say they don’t know much about Newsom but think the tweets are hilarious.” Newsom’s Trump imitation isn’t the only social media tactic the Democratic governor has attempted this year. In February, Newsom launched a new podcast, the first episodes of which focused on discussions with “leaders and architects of the MAGA movement.” The first three guests on Newsom’s show were Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, conservative commentator Michael Savage, and former Trump Chief Strategist Steve Bannon. Newsom said his podcast would seek to better understand conservatives while also asking how the Democratic Party could learn from Republicans’ recent electoral successes. “We already know what our disagreements are with the MAGA movement. I want to understand what the motivations are, the legitimacy of those motivations, and just really understand where people are coming from,” Newsom said. “They are influential — they are. They explain more things in more ways on more days about what’s going on and if we’re not trying to understand their motivations, we will be victims of their motivations.” “At the same time, I want Democrats to come on and sort of challenge where we are on a lot of these issues,” he added. “And so I’m asking the same questions you’re asking of me: Where the hell is the Democratic Party?” Newsom’s podcast launch was viewed by some as an effort to position himself as more of a moderate who’s willing to reach a hand across to Trump supporters, as he’s considered a potential frontrunner in the 2028 Democratic presidential primary. Six months later, Newsom is back to focusing all of his attention on attacking the president as Democrats push back on most of Trump’s actions — from immigration crackdowns across the country to the deployment of the National Guard and federal agents in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

“Things My Mom Has Said That My Dad Could Never Say”

Mary and Bri are twins who grew up in a big family in New York City. Their world centers around family and music, and the twins grew up to become recording artists. Today, they are sharing their parents with us as her dad relates things their mom has said to him (that he could never say to her). We must add a language warning for the first revelation. Even if you don’t find the statements hilarious, you will still be laughing at the joyful banter of these two as they go through this list. The love between this couple is evident. Pay attention to Dad’s new “click eyeglasses.” We’re not sure of the significance of that, but he points them out in the introduction of each of the four parts of this series. With the first statement about his posterior region, you get an idea why their mom can say these things, but their dad can’t. They would definitely need a bigger doghouse if the roles were reversed. Could you imagine Dad telling Mom he wasn’t going with her “looking like that”? Or that her pants made her rear look saggy? Image from YouTube. Husbands and wives develop a rapport over the years. For this couple, humor and being able to laugh at life and each other are important ingredients in their relationship. The way he describes their five kids is “We have two sets of twins and then a fifth guy.” Did you catch the “man flu” discussion in Part 4? The series currently has four parts, but they might be adding more. If you have enjoyed this family, consider subscribing to their YouTube channel or following Mary and Bri on Instagram and TikTok. The grass-eating mystery: why cats and dogs snack on greens

BY THE OPTIMIST DAILY EDITORIAL TEAM You’re out walking your dog or watching your cat in the backyard when, out of nowhere, they start nibbling grass like it’s a gourmet salad. It’s odd behavior, especially for cats, who are strict carnivores. So what’s going on here? According to Dr. Jamie Lovejoy, veterinarian at Stack Veterinary Hospital in Syracuse, New York, “We do see grass-eating behavior in both dogs and cats, and these are two species that technically really don’t have the equipment to digest a lot of grass.” Herbivores, after all, have specialized gut bacteria, longer digestive tracts, and even multiple stomach chambers to handle grass’s tough cellulose. Cats and dogs? Not so much. More than a tummy ache The old wives’ tale goes like this: pets eat grass to soothe an upset stomach. “Most of the time when it comes out, it comes out kind of unchanged, either by vomiting or defecation,” Lovejoy told Live Science. “And so I think it inspires a lot of old wives’ tales.” But is that actually true? Apparently not. In a 2008 survey of 1,571 dog owners, only eight percent reported their dogs showed signs of illness before eating grass. Cats? Similar story. A 2021 survey published in the journal Animals found just six to nine percent of cat owners believed their feline seemed sick before the munching began, even though vomiting after eating grass was more common. What the research really says Interestingly, these studies also poke holes in another popular theory: that cats eat grass to hack up hair balls. While long-haired cats do tend to vomit hairballs more often, researchers found “no evident difference” in grass-eating behavior between long- and short-haired cats. So if it’s not always about nausea or fur balls, what gives? A habit rooted in the wild? Researchers have observed that wild canines and felines like wolves, foxes, and bobcats eat grass too. This hints at an innate behavior that may have evolved as a kind of self-cleansing strategy. “Scientists have hypothesized that wild cats and wolves eat grass to clear their intestines of parasites,” Lovejoy explained. Could domesticated animals be doing the same? It’s hard to say. “Most of our pets really don’t have these high worm burdens,” Lovejoy noted, making this theory difficult to test in today’s household pets. Micronutrients or just a craving? Some scientists speculate that grass could provide trace nutrients like B vitamins or even fiber. But that’s unlikely to be the driving factor for most pets who eat a well-balanced commercial diet. “If you have a healthy pet who is getting a well-balanced diet and occasionally decides to go eat some grass, nibble on catnip, things like that, then [there’s] absolutely nothing to worry about,” said Dr. Lori Teller, a clinical professor at Texas A&M’s College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. But if your pet is going after grass like it’s a buffet, or throwing up every time, that’s a red flag. “If they’re ravenous for these plants, or constantly eating them and then throwing up, then I would certainly be looking for an underlying problem,” Teller added. When to be concerned In most cases, grass-eating is harmless, if a little odd. However, some plants are toxic to pets, and others may be treated with pesticides or fertilizers that are unsafe for ingestion. Lovejoy recommends checking the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ list of toxic plants before letting your pet graze. Scientific studies on this topic remain few and far between. “I think a lot of these questions are kind of technically unanswered,” Lovejoy said. So what’s the most likely reason your pet chews grass? According to both Lovejoy and Teller, it might be as simple as curiosity or preference. “There is no one reason why cats and dogs want to or choose to eat grass,” Teller said. “There are probably as many reasons as there are different types of grass out there. Some dogs and cats just like it.”The post The grass-eating mystery: why cats and dogs snack on greens first appeared on The Optimist Daily: Making Solutions the News.

Tiny robots offer lasting relief for tooth sensitivity, scientists say

BY THE OPTIMIST DAILY EDITORIAL TEAM Tooth sensitivity may feel like a minor nuisance. That is, until your morning coffee or scoop of ice cream sends a shock straight through your jaw. But scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have unveiled a novel, long-lasting solution that sounds like science fiction: nanorobots guided into your teeth to form permanent protective plugs. “We’re excited to see this work progress toward clinical use,” says Prof. Ambarish Ghosh, a corresponding author on the new study and a researcher at the IISc’s Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE). “This is a compelling demonstration of what nanorobotics can achieve, and how they could significantly impact future healthcare.” How sensitive teeth work—and why they hurt To understand how these bots help, it helps to understand what causes sensitivity in the first place. Underneath a tooth’s outer enamel layer lies a section called the dentin. That dentin is full of fluid-filled microscopic channels, or tubules, that lead directly to the nerve endings in the pulp of the tooth. When enamel wears away due to acidic foods, aggressive brushing, or natural erosion, those tubules are exposed. Suddenly, cold drinks, sweet treats, and even a gust of air can trigger fluid movement inside those channels, which sends pain signals straight to the nerves. Current treatments like desensitizing toothpaste offer temporary relief by calming nerve response or partially blocking the tubules. But the team at CeNSE has developed something far more durable. Enter CalBots: tiny bots with a big mission The new treatment involves nanoscale “CalBots”, which are just 400 nanometers wide and made from magnetic iron oxide and a proprietary calcium-silicate-based bioceramic. That bioceramic material is key to their function: it mimics the structure of enamel and can create a lasting seal inside the tubules. Once the CalBots are applied to the tooth’s surface, an external magnetic field is used to guide them into the exposed tubules. Within just 20 minutes, researchers observed that the bots formed deep, stable plugs, reaching between 300 and 500 micrometers down. These plugs act like artificial enamel, creating a barrier that prevents irritating substances from entering and triggering nerve pain. “We think of it as replacing what was lost with a highly targeted, biocompatible solution,” Ghosh explains. From lab to real-life relief The research began with extracted human teeth, which were tested in the lab. In every case, CalBots successfully plugged the exposed tubules. The next phase involved mice with induced tooth sensitivity. After receiving the CalBot treatment, they began drinking cold water, something they previously avoided, favoring room-temperature liquids instead. This promising result suggests that the robots not only form physical plugs but also meaningfully reduce discomfort, possibly for the long term. What’s next for CalBot tech? The team is now commercializing the technology through a spinoff company, Theranautilus, and hopes to bring the innovation to dental clinics in the near future. The study was recently published in Advanced Science, a peer-reviewed journal covering cutting-edge research. For now, patients with sensitive teeth may still rely on toothpaste and lifestyle tweaks, but CalBots may one day offer a deeper fix. If successful in human trials, the tech could provide a rare promise in dentistry: a cure, not just a coping mechanism.
