Fallout from Oscar Winner's Speech Gets Even Worse as Hundreds of Hollywood Stars Sign Open Letter

Congratulations to Jonathan Glazer for replacing Sacheen Littlefeather as the face of the moral bankruptcy at the Oscars. For those with better things to think about than the 1973 Academy Awards‚ Littlefeather was the Native American activist who was sent up in place of Marlon Brando to accept his Best...

“Biden Warned Opponent Against a 'Bloodbath' in 2020 - And the Establishment Media Never Blinked

Among the chorus of Democrats and liberal media figures taking presumptive GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump's "bloodbath" comments out of context‚ you can quite predictably add his opposition‚ President Joe Biden. In a series of social media posts on Monday‚ Biden became the latest figure to distort Trump's remarks about...

Democrat Senator Called To Resign As Committee Chair Over ‘Large Stock Holdings’ Reportedly Held By Wife

Republicans have called for Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) to step down from his position as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. The calls follow allegations that Wyden’s wife owns up to $3 million in stock amongst four large tech companies. According to Washington Examiner‚ the companies include Apple‚ Microsoft‚ Amazon‚ and Google. Republicans call on Oregon Democratic senator to step down over wife’s ‘large’ stock holdings https://t.co/JwliWcAK3D — Washington Examiner (@dcexaminer) March 19‚ 2024 “As chairman of the Senate Finance Committee‚ you are charged with investigating and regulating Big Tech’s market abuses‚” a group of national Republicans‚ led by New York Young Republican Club President Gavin Wax‚ wrote in a letter. “We are alarmed by reports of your wife’s exceptionally large stock holdings‚ totaling $3 million‚ in four of the Big Five technology companies that you are tasked with overseeing – Apple‚ Microsoft‚ Amazon‚ and Google. This clear conflict of interest is dangerous to the American people‚ and we demand that you immediately step down from the chairmanship of the Finance Committee‚” the letter continued. “Mrs. Wyden’s holdings in these companies is an astonishing amount: it’s almost 60 times the value of stock that the median American stock-owning household owns in all companies combined‚” it added. Just the News reports: Wyden’s latest financial disclosure covers 2022‚ and it shows that his wife‚ Nancy Wyden‚ owns at least $1.5 million in the four major companies‚ but may have as much as $3 million in investments. She also made between $15‚001 and $50‚000 in dividends from Apple that year. Notably‚ Nancy Wyden may still have some involvement in all members of the Big Five. The financial disclosure shows she sold Meta holdings worth between $50‚001 and $100‚000‚ and it currently lists her holdings in the company as “None (or less than $1‚001).” The Senate Finance Committee has wide-ranging jurisdiction over numerous federal matters ranging from trade to taxation‚ and the Republicans pointed out how his wife’s investments may pose a conflict of interest. Senate Finance Committee chair faces call to resign over wife's major stock holdingsRepublicans are demanding Oregon Democratic Sen. Ron Wyden step down from his position as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee over his wife's major stock holdings.https://t.co/9DsB20X3nc — Shadygrooove (@shadygrooove) March 18‚ 2024 “Conflicts of interest like this would pose ethical problems for any policymaker. But yours is especially problematic‚ given that you personally wield enormous power over the economic fate of the very same companies these investments support‚” the letter continued. From the Washington Examiner: This isn’t the first time the senator has come into a conflict of interest problem. His wife has also reportedly bought and sold oil company shares while her husband led energy committees. Ron Wyden‚ a staunch supporter of internet freedom‚ has led the push for deregulating Big Tech and pressed President Joe Biden to reverse the Office of the United States Trade Representative’s decision to “allow the free flow of information across borders.” “Your Committee has direct jurisdiction over issues such as trade agreements and the taxation of multinational corporations‚” club leaders wrote. “And we note that even as your household invests in Big Tech companies‚ you personally are pressing the Biden administration to enshrine a ‘digital trade’ framework into international trade policy that would help Big Tech preemptively shut down regulation.”

CDC Issues ‘Health Alert’‚ Urges International Travelers Get Inoculated

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a ‘health alert’ on Monday due to increased measles cases in the United States. “There had been 58 confirmed cases of measles in the U.S. this year as of Thursday‚ the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said‚ compared to 58 in all of 2023‚” NBC News reports. The public health agency said health providers should “ensure” that international travelers get inoculated against the illness. Too bad for the public health agency that trust in them is at an all-time-low. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) sent out a “health alert” on Monday due to what it called an increase in global and U.S. measles cases‚ saying that health providers should “ensure” that international travelers are vaccinated.Of the 58 cases reported… pic.twitter.com/CsoJ5hqPUg — Informed NJ Nurses (@InformedNJNurse) March 19‚ 2024 From The Epoch Times: Of the 58 cases reported across the United States in 2o24‚ about 93 percent are connected “to international travel‚” the CDC said Monday. It said that most of the cases are reported in children aged 12 months and older who have not received a measles vaccine. “To prevent measles infection and reduce the risk of community transmission from importation‚ all U.S. residents traveling internationally‚ regardless of destination‚ should be current on their MMR vaccinations‚” the CDC said‚ referring to the measles-mumps-rubella vaccine that is commonly administered across the world. “Many countries‚ including travel destinations such as Austria‚ the Philippines‚ Romania‚ and the United Kingdom‚ are experiencing measles outbreaks‚” the agency also warned. But due to “currently high population immunity against measles in most U.S. communities‚ the risk of widescale spread is low‚” the health alert said. “However‚ pockets of low coverage leave some communities at higher risk for outbreaks.” CDC issues alert warning doctors about an increase in measles cases that in a little more than three months has equalled all of the U.S. cases from last year. https://t.co/naYxn2tkIC — NBC News (@NBCNews) March 19‚ 2024 Unsurprisingly‚ mainstream outlets urged people get vaccinated for measles and said those unvaccinated are higher risk of contracting the illness. Per NBC News: There are also outbreaks in other countries‚ including Austria and the United Kingdom‚ so everyone of any age traveling to any international destination should be current on their vaccinations‚ the agency said in the advisory. Measles is highly contagious‚ and unvaccinated people have a 90% chance of becoming infected if they are exposed. Late last month there was a large outbreak in Florida‚ and in January there was one in Philadelphia. It can also be fatal. In 2021‚ an estimated 128‚000 people‚ most of whom were children‚ died from the disease‚ the World Health Organization says. It estimates that 56 million deaths were averted by vaccination worldwide from 2000 to 2021. Measles was declared eliminated in the U.S. in 2000‚ which means no continuous disease transmission for greater than 12 months or not constantly present in the country‚ according to the agency. The U.S. retains its “eliminated” status‚ but in 2019 there was a 27-year high‚ with 1‚274 cases. Those outbreaks were all travel-related cases that then infected people who are unvaccinated or under-vaccinated in the U.S.‚ the CDC has said.

Supreme Court Declines To Review Case Of Couple Who Lost Custody Of Teenage Son For Refusing To Accept Female Identity

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday declined to hear a case involving an Indiana couple who lost custody of their teenage son for refusing to accept his self-declared female identity. “The court‚ without comment‚ rejected an appeal from the teen’s parents‚ who had warned that cases similar to theirs are likely to reoccur ‘due to developing conflicts between parents and their children concerning gender identity‚'” USA Today reports. “With increasing frequency‚ governments run roughshod over parents’ religious beliefs on gender identity‚ including removing children from parents‚ favoring certain beliefs in divorce custody disputes‚ and preventing adoptions‚” the couple’s attorneys told the court in their appeal. “Mary and Jeremy Cox declined to use their son’s chosen name and pronouns‚ which sparked an investigation by Indiana officials‚” 100 Percent Fed Up previously noted. Catholic Couple Petitions Supreme Court After State Government Removed Son From Custody For Refusing To Accept Female Identity USA Today reports: The state said the parents‚ who are self-described devout Christians‚ lost custody not because of their views but because of the medical necessity of addressing the teen’s severe eating disorder. A provision of Indiana law that is similar to statutes in nearly every state allows government intervention in “a variety of situations in which even well-intentioned parent find themselves unable to prevent serious harm‚” the state told the court. Indiana also argued that the custody dispute is no longer relevant because the teen‚ who was 16 when removed from the home‚ is now an adult. In a statement following the Supreme Court's denial‚ Mary and Jeremy Cox referred to their child as "our son" and said losing custody of the teen "because of their beliefs will stay with us forever." "We can't change the past‚ but we will continue to fight for a future where parents of faith can raise their children without fear of state officials knocking on their doors‚" the Coxes said. "In 2021‚ the Indiana Department of Child Services investigated parents Mary and Jeremy Cox and later took their son after they refused to refer to him as a girl. He was then placed in a home that affirmed his gender identity. The parents have reportedly filed a petition to the Supreme Court asking for their case to be heard‚" Collin Rugg wrote last month. WATCH: NEW: Catholic Indiana couple appeals to Supreme Court after their child was taken from them after they refused to refer to him as his preferred pronouns. Utter insanity. In M.C. and J.C. v. Indiana Department of Child Services‚ Indiana investigated Mary and Jeremy Cox because they would not refer to their son using pronouns and a name inconsistent with his biological sex. State courts allowed Indiana to keep the child from their home because of their disagreement with their child—motivated by their religious beliefs—about human sexuality. With the help of Becket and attorney Joshua Hershberger‚ the Coxes today filed their reply brief at the Supreme Court‚ asking the Justices to take their case‚" Becket Legal‚ who is representing the Coxes‚ wrote in a press release last month. BREAKING- US- DC: Today‚ without comment‚ the US Supreme Court rejected the appeal of Indiana parents who lost custody of their trans-identified teenager. Link follows. pic.twitter.com/MEAHwSg6mw — Genspect (@genspect) March 19‚ 2024 From Becket Legal: Mary and Jeremy Cox are a faithful Catholic couple living in Indiana. In 2019‚ their son informed them that he identified as a girl. Because of their religious belief that God creates human beings with immutable sex—male or female—they could not refer to him using pronouns and a name inconsistent with his biology. The Coxes also believed that he needed help for underlying mental health concerns‚ including an eating disorder. To address both issues‚ they provided therapeutic care for their child’s gender dysphoria and scheduled appointments with a specialist to help him with the eating disorder. In 2021‚ Indiana began investigating the Coxes after a report that they were not referring to their child by his preferred gender identity. Indiana then removed the teen from the parents’ custody and placed him in a home that would affirm his preferred identity. “This is what every parent is afraid of. We love our son and wanted to care for him‚ but the state of Indiana robbed us of that opportunity by taking him from our home and banning us from speaking to him about gender‚” said Mary and Jeremy Cox. “We are hopeful that the Justices will take our case and protect other parents from having to endure the nightmare we did.” At the initial trial court hearing‚ Indiana officials argued the child “should be in a home where she is [ac]cepted for who she is.” The court restricted the Coxes’ visitation time to a few hours once a week and barred them from speaking to their child about their religious views on human sexuality and gender identity. After completing its investigation‚ Indiana made an about-face and abandoned all allegations against Mary and Jeremy‚ admitting that the accusations of abuse were unsubstantiated. However‚ Indiana surprised the parents by arguing that the disagreement over gender identity was distressing to their child and contributed to his eating disorder—even though that disorder became worse after he was removed and placed in a transition-affirming home. The trial court relied on Indiana’s argument to keep the child out of his parents’ custody and keep the gag order in place. In short‚ even though the court agreed that the Coxes were fit parents‚ it upheld the removal of their child. An appeals court upheld the removal. "The Indiana Supreme Court declined to review the case‚" USA Today noted.

THE TAKING: New York May Seize Trump Assets‚ Suspend the Constitution | Steve Berman

The Ninth Amendment to the Constitution states that “In suits at common law‚ where the value in controversy shall exceed twenty dollars‚ the right of trial by jury shall be preserved‚ and no fact tried by a jury‚ shall be otherwise re-examined in any Court of the United States‚ than according to the rules of the common law.” The Seventh Amendment holds‚ in part: “nor be deprived of life‚ liberty‚ or property‚ without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use‚ without just compensation.” The State of New York tried Donald J. Trump‚ as co-defendant with the Trump Organization‚ for lying on bank loan applications‚ and inflating the stated value of certain real estate–in New York‚ the most sophisticated real estate market in the country. The evidence shows that Trump paid these loans‚ and the banks made their profit. The judge‚ Arthur Engoron‚ a guy from Queens who relished taking down Trump‚ didn’t use a jury. The law that New York Attorney General Letitia James used doesn’t require one‚ and neither the state nor the Trump legal team requested it. The sentence‚ a $454 million fine‚ must be paid or a bond for the entire amount issued to give Trump lawyers the opportunity to appeal–otherwise‚ the accused may somehow dispose of his property and be unable to pay the state. The property consists of high-value‚ loan-encumbered iconic properties in New York and other places. Judge Engoron’s original order made it impossible for any bank registered in New York to do business with Trump or his company. An appeals court overturned that part. But no bank or bond underwriter wants to cover a $454 million bond against properties that have their own loans‚ and in default would need to pay the State of New York in full. Trump’s team tried over 30 banks (how many could even put that deal together) and came up with bupkis. So‚ the Constitution be damned. Letitia James‚ barring an appeals court granting Trump a lower bond amount–his team asked for $100 million–will violate the Seventh Amendment after the State of New York violated the Ninth Amendment. One judge ruled that Trump‚ in a crime with no natural or legal person named as victim‚ is guilty of crimes against the State of New York‚ and that one woman‚ Letitia James‚ may seize the assets of the defendant and dispose of them‚ to the detriment of creditors who have loaned against the value of that property‚ and place the proceeds from the liquidation of said property into the coffers of the State of New York. The State of New York’s 2022-23 budget was $220.5 billion. Trump’s fine equals 2% of the Empire State’s annual budget. In order to get that money‚ AG James is executing what in Constitutional law is called a “taking.” A taking is illegal‚ except to pay the proceeds of a lawsuit. But this lawsuit is so large‚ and the amounts so substantial‚ and the trial so political‚ that how could anyone looking from the outside see the enforcement of this fine as anything else but a taking? It’s a taking under legal color‚ or as the term calls it: “lawfare.” Letitia James can seize Trump’s property in one week if an appeals court doesn’t intervene. And each day‚ the interest on the judgement adds $112‚000 to the total. The bond collateral would need to cover the judgement plus 20%‚ so it’s over $550 million. And Trump’s team has just one week to do a deal that over 30 bond underwriters wouldn’t touch. It’s not possible. This is the kind of deal that Tevye was offered when the tzar ordered the fictional Jewish residents of Anatevka to vacate in 48 hours‚ selling everything. The United States has a Constitution. Patrick Henry‚ who famously said “give me liberty‚ or give me death‚” would not support ratification of the Constitution until the Bill of Rights was also included. It seems the State of New York will throw both away. You might not like Trump‚ who once said the Constitution should be suspended for enormous crimes that never happened. But the State of New York is doing the exact same thing. Follow Steve on Twitter @stevengberman. The First TV contributor network is a place for vibrant thought and ideas.
