The guitarist that Angus Young compared to Jimi Hendrix

The guitarist that Angus Young compared to Jimi Hendrix

Alongside his brother Malcolm, the guitarist Angus Young formed AC/DC back in 1973, a band which would become one of the most influential of all time. Their guitar playing and songwriting was crucial for the band's sound and they became a huge influence for countless guitar players. Angus had the chance to see many incredible artists over the decades and he even once named that according to him could be compared to Hendrix. The guitarist that Angus Young compared to Jimi Hendrix The guitarist praised by Angus Young was the late legendary Eddie Van Halen. He praised the band on the hardcover of the photo book "Eddie Van Halen" by Neil Zlozower (Via VNHD). Angus called him an "innovator", like Jimi Hendrix was in his opinion. "AC/DC played on a bill with Van Halen back in 1978 or 1979 for a Bill Graham Day on the Green show. I didn't know much about Van Halen then except that I remember seeing film clips of them, especially the one of Eddie playing the solo piece, 'Eruption, and I was very impressed. I didn't meet Eddie until years later when there was a Monsters of Rock open-air festival in England. I was shocked to hear he liked my playing, because I've never rated myself as a guitarist. He continued: "Eddie is an innovator. When I grew up we had a lot of guys from England who were great players, like Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck. And then, of course, when Jimi Hendrix came along, he changed the game. I'd put Eddie in that category of being an innovator like Hendrix. He changed the game for his style of playing. When Eddie came along he spawned so many imitators." "Like Hendrix, suddenly you started to see people wanting to buy the same guitars he played and also play his licks. He turned the rule book upside down in terms of his approach. There was a lot of experimentation to his playing. Eddie also crosses into that avant-garde thing, which puts him in the same category as Hendrix. 'Eruption' is a favorite track. He's got everything characteristic of his playing in that song-there's a bit of everything. When Jimi Hendrix came along it was like, 'Where did this guy come from?' and I think that was the same feeling with Eddie. When Eddie appeared on the scene, every guitarist I ran into said, 'You've gotta hear this guy!" Angus Young said. Eddie Van Halen was a big AC/DC fan and he became a good friend of the brothers Young, especially Malcolm, whom he used to say was the heart and soul of the band. He even revealed many times that his favorite album of the group was "Powerage" (1978). He said Eddie's guitar playing was "pure wizardry" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9r-NxuYszg&pp=ygUPZWRkaWUgdmFuIGhhbGVu Eddie sadly passed away in 2020 at the age of 65 and almost everyone in Rock and Roll music paid their tribute. One of them, of course, was Angus who said in an official statement that his guitar playing was "pure wizardry". "Eddie was a guitar wonder, his playing pure wizardry. To the world of music he was a special gift. To those of us fortunate enough to have met him, a very special person. He leaves a big hole in a lot of hearts. To the Van Halen family my heartfelt sympathies," Angus Young said. Angus and Eddie curiously had the same age. They were both born back in 1955 and formed their bands almost at the same time. AC/DC was formed in 1973 and Van Halen in 1972.The post The guitarist that Angus Young compared to Jimi Hendrix appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Tom Morello recalls Chris Cornell’s ability in terms of melody

The American singer Chris Cornell first achieved fame as a member of Soundgarden in the late 80s and was also successful as part of the supergroup Audioslave and as a solo act. Audioslave had three members of Rage Against The Machine and became one of the most successful supergroups formed after the 00s. The band's guitarist Tom Morello recalled in an interview with Loud TV (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), the ability that Cornell had to come up with melodies. He even recalled how the hit "Like a Stone" was written. Tom Morello recalls Chris Cornell's ability in terms of melody "Part of the brilliance of Chris Cornell was that no matter what you threw at him, whether it was like a complicated, heavy riff or a very, very simple and sparse chord progression, he instantly came up with some brilliant melody, haunting or terrifying melody. That was very much the case with 'Like a Stone.'" "The first time that we were writing it, he sang not the words, but sang the melody that you hear on the record, and I played the solo that you hear on the record. So it was one of those songs that it felt like it was almost 'unearthed' in a way, and we just tapped into something that was very soulful." "At every show that I play, we always do something in memory of Chris, and we'll do something today for him, too. It might be 'Like a Stone,' spoiler alert!" Tom Morello said. Morello is currently touring as a solo artist and "Like a Stone" is one of the songs he has been playing live. Chris Cornell tragically passed away in 2017 at the age of 52. Audioslave was active from 2001 to 2007 and in 2017. Besides Morello and Cornell the band also had the bassist Tim Commerford and the drummer Brad Wilk. They released three albums: "Audioslave" (2002), "Out of Exile" (2005) and "Revelations" (2006). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QU1nvuxaMA&pp=ygUMbGlrZSBhIHN0b25lThe post Tom Morello recalls Chris Cornell’s ability in terms of melody appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Yngwie Malmsteen says he never listened to Sabbath and Zeppelin

The virtuoso Swedish guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen continues on the road in 2024 and during a press conference at Hellfest Festival, recorded by Loud TV and transcribed by Ultimate Guitar, he was asked about his influences. The musician talked about how much classical music was important for him and said that he never really listened to Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Yngwie Malmsteen says he never listened to Sabbath and Zeppelin "I didn't hear Black Sabbath, I didn't hear Led Zeppelin. I didn't hear any fu**ing thing. But on my eighth birthday, I got Purple's 'Fireball', which, by the way, everybody should check out... Now, I didn't have anything to compare that to... And the next thing I heard was 'Made in Japan'. By time I was nine years old, I could play every note on 'Made in Japan', note for note, everything." "But it took me a very short time to realize that this is all pentatonic modes... It's blues, which is beautiful. I love BB King. I love them all. [But] for me, being a little freak, I realized, 'It's got to be more than this.' So, somebody played Genesis' 'Selling England by the Pound', and I was 10, nine years old." He continued: "And I go, 'Wow, what's this? Diminished scales?' All of a sudden, I realized what I loved with this, wasn't the guitar player. It was the notes and the chord progressions. And I knew my mother had about 1000 Bach records, so I started listening to Johansson Bach," Yngwie Malmsteen said. The musician continued saying that he stopped listening to Ritchie Blackmore when he was 10 but noted that he is a big fan of the Deep Purple and Rainbow guitarist. He call him one of the greatest Blues guitarists of all time but also noted that he can't be compared with Ritchie, because they are really different players. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjbDzoZutFU&pp=ygUVeW5nd2llIG1hbG1zdGVlbiAyMDI0The post Yngwie Malmsteen says he never listened to Sabbath and Zeppelin appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Geezer Butler praises ex-Black Sababth singer Tony Martin

Black Sabbath's bassist and main lyricist (in the early years of the band), Geezer Butler is currently promoting his autobiography "Into The Void" and in an interview with Full Metal Jacket (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), he praised Sabbath's overlooked vocalist Tony Martin. After years out of the streaming platforms, the albums with Martin on vocals were finally released in 2024. One of them, "Cross Purposes" had Butler as the bassist and lyricist. Geezer Butler praises ex-Black Sabbath singer Tony Martin There was just one album that I did with Tony Martin. That was — God, I can't even remember it — it's called 'Cross Purposes'. Tony Martin's a great singer, and he was good to work with. There was no big egos or anything. He got down to it when he needed to. And that was a good album for me because half of it was probably written by me, the music side of it." "I went around to Tony's (Iommi) one day and played him all this, 'cause I was doing a solo thing at the time. And I'd got tons of material. And I went around to Tony's house and played him some of the stuff that I'd been writing and he really liked a lot of it. So I think about half of it ended up on the album," Geezer Butler said. On "Cross Purposes", the band was also formed by Tony Iommi (Guitar), Tony Martin (Vocals), Geoff Nichols (Keyboards) and Bobby Rondinelli (Drums). Tony Martin was a member of Black Sabbath from 1987 to 1991 and from 1992 to 1997. With him on vocals the band released the albums: "The Eternal Idol" (1987), "Headless Cross" (1989), "Tyr" (1990), "Cross Purposes" (1994) and "Forbidden" (1995). All the albums of his era with the band were finally released in 2024 as part of the boxset "Anno Domini". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hW2gGpDk2iM&list=PLNtjcqZPa3gaegPSFjwFHTubTbh4kWpL3&index=2The post Geezer Butler praises ex-Black Sababth singer Tony Martin appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

Rickey Medlocke defends Lynyrd Skynyrd line-up with no original members

Lynyrd Skynyrd was formed in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida and they had the chance to release their first album in 1973. Sadly, their career was cut short at their prime with a tragic airplane crash that killed almost all the band members in 1977. The surviving musicians reunited in 1987 with Johnny Van Zant's little brother Johnny on vocals and since then they were touring around the world. The only constant original surviving member of the group after the reunion was the guitarist Gary Rossington who passed away last year. Even after his passing, the band decided to continue as Lynyrd Skynyrd and the guitarist Rickey Medlocke defended in an interview with WDHA FM (Transcribed by Ultimate Guitar), the band's line-up with no original members. Rickey Medlocke defends Lynyrd Skynyrd line-up with no original members "There have been times that Gary… Several times, we would be on the bus, and at the time when he was getting to the point to where he was really struggling to be on the road, he was saying, 'I never want the band to go by the wayside, and the music just disappear along with myself and the rest of the original guys, only to just be heard on the radio, or just be heard by cover bands' or whatever." "So when it happened, Johnny and I talked and we…it was hard, it was a hard decision to do, but the one thing that was really powerful was, when it did happen, all the fans sent us, I mean, tens of thousands of stuff rolled in on the Skynyrd website, and each one of our websites and Facebook and Instagram and all that stuff." He continued: "The one deciding factor was the fans always said, 'Please don't let this be the end of it.' And so, with that in mind, Johnny and I decided, 'Hey, let's go to all the people that are involved, the estates. And let's talk to them, and let's see if we can't work it out, to where we take the band out, and we continue as Lynyrd Skynyrd,' because Johnny and I felt…" "Look, our time in the band, it is Lynyrd Skynyrd. Johnny, the original singer's little brother that's been there for, oh my God, since '87. I've been back with the band since '96 what? 28 going on, 29 years now, two and a half years in the very beginning. So my tenure is over 30 years with the band." Medlocke was a member of Skynyrd from 1971 to 1972 (Playing the drums) and returned to the line-up in 1996 as a guitarist. The band has many scheduled tour dates in 2024. They even will tour with ZZ Top across the United States. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQjQrYWrtFw&pp=ygUTa3lueXJkIHNreW55cmQgMjAyNA%3D%3DThe post Rickey Medlocke defends Lynyrd Skynyrd line-up with no original members appeared first on Rock And Roll Garage.

UTL COMMENT:- For those that don't know the ULEZ cameras have been installed in London so that people get charged $$ if they drive too often outside of their designated 'precincts'. It's all part of the BS NWO 15 minute city agenda. Basically turning your 'precinct' into some Gaza-like existence.

The UK showed the US how to competently count votes

The general election in the United Kingdom revealed two things: First, that the incumbent Conservative Party has lost its mandate with voters, and second, that it is possible to count millions of votes in short order. Before the sun rose on July 5 in the U.K., the results for 648 of the 650 parliamentary constituencies had all been posted, and the newly elected members of Parliament had been certified and sent off to Westminster where they will form a new government under...
